Any recommendations for a decent free-roam/open-world FF-esque title?Having recently replayed the ever-greats 7 & 8, for the god-knows time, I'm finding myself looking for something of this quality with a more open world. The less railroading the better. Last couple of games to scratch that itch were Crystal Project and Cassette Beasts, not mandatory but ATB based-combat would be nice.
>>393997812 was the only game that really felt huge and open world
>>3939978Sounds like you'd like the SaGa games

Have you played xenoblade 1? I find that its quite similar to FF12 - it works even better as a free roaming game even, for several reasons. You lose out on the classic magic system and gambit system but instead you get compelling melee combat, tanking and combos between characters that feel like an evolution of dual/triple techs from chrono trigger I think the monado is the coolest sword in gaming since the gunblade. I am happy that I can now wvvedash with both blades in project m.
>>3940728the way you can have a psychic vision of receiving a quest when you pick up a quest item is a wonderful feature in xenoblade 1- the next 3 xenoblades do not do this ( I think? I did not get far in XB2 or XB3). Idk why an MMO has not done this yet , 93% of video games will not let you touch the quest item until you are already on the quest. Also you get to jump.
>>3939978you're looking for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII>>3940728xenoblade 1 does not have compelling combat actuallyit's really fucking boring
>>3940780I think having positional modifiers and active abilities for melee characters would have greatly benefited ff12. Ridiculous that 12 is the only game with dragoons that don't jump (ulahan lol ) .
