Just take a bit to familiarize yourself with the funky WASD controls where A and D are for turning, Z and C are for strafing, and X is for going back. Also use the context sensitive interaction mode rather than explicity using "look" or "talk" mode and the game is pretty easy to play.

>>3942027>>3942048Not that guy but I'll add that you can emulate Ultima Underworld on PS1 (there was a Japanese version for console that recently got an English patch). It's basically the same game but you use a controller so movement/looking is much less awkward than the original. That might be more your cup of tea.

After the first level you'll get the hang of everything. Also you should USE A WALKTHROUGH. The game was clearly designed for you to call the Origin hotline every time you got stumped. For example, there's a random NPC you kill on the first level that drops silk string that you pretty much NEED to beat the endgame. There's another NPC on that same level that gives you a recipe that you have to keep to trade to another NPC later on for you to beat the endgame. You would have no way of knowing this unless you used a guide. Also if your lore skill is too low you can't identify quest items. It's very easy to get locked in that game unless you know what to look for. Not to mention the item disappearing glitch.Also: UU isn't really an Ultima game. The devs were making a first person dungeon crawler & Richard Gayriott was so impressed by the demo he wanted it set in the Ultima universe. The devs of UU went on to make System Shock, Thief, and Deus Ex and you can tell because UU has many of those same immersive elements. They didn't have much to do with any of the other Ultima games so it feels much different.
