This game is actually really great as long as you go into it knowing it's very different from the first two.
>>
It's saved by the strong character writing and the stellar ost. The actual plot is a flimsy excuse to reuse as many assets as possible even though it all does kind of come together in the end. Making the game a dungeon crawler just feels bad because the dungeon crawling is by far the weakest aspect of this series and Falcom did nothing to actually try to improve it. Dungeons are all still just bland generic hallways but they dont have the excuse of feeling like a part of an actual world like in FC and SC instead just feel like fake shitty video game levels. I also think this game set many bad precedents that ruined a lot of games later down the line.

I felt like the dungeon crawling was well paced. It never felt too long before you get some story and unlock a new character.

Great game. I wish the later Trails games had kept the quality of the first five.

It's a very good entry but it filters people who don't like that it's a lot more gameplay focused than the first two. I actually really enjoyed the dungeon crawler aspect.

People tend to forget those games released in 2000s so they were basically PS2-era titles. First Cold Steel came out in 2013 and was a modern JRPG with all the good and bad that entailed.

It actually ended up being my favorite in the trilogy.

>2013
the 2010s weren't kind on jrpgs, most titles from that time were pretty bad, cold steel was one of the better ones even

CS1/2 was good.

CS1 was fun but 2 wasted the civil war angle. It would have been cool to see the protagonists divided and fighting each other but that never happens.

by far the best combat in the series, really great music, Cute Visors? It has it all
>>

We saw that happen in Azure and it was shitty.

I love the combat so I loved the dungeons. Simple as.

I think Reverie had the best combat in the series by far. It's really hard adjusting to Daybreak (I just started) after 5 games of CS combat and orbments and 3 games of orders.

Kai's is perfect
>>
>>3947344
>boost
>ZOC
>brave orders (again)
>another follow-up attack (useless)
>super saiyan in field
and other things I forgot
They just throw everything they could come up with. This is messy, not perfect.

It's a good character focus game but not a good Trails game, lacking towns and NPCs. Gameplay isn't really good enough to justify a dungeon crawler focus. Maybe in the remake it could be good if they rework it in some ways but they'll probably be lazy and 1:1 it.

Shit opinion

>knowing it's very different from the first two.
I can see why that might be seen as a plus.

Let me guess, you hate talking to NPCs and doing sidequests even though that's half the appeal of the entire series?
I'm glad you got what you wanted in 3rd but the fact that they never did that again should tell you most people do like those elements.

No dummy, I'm disagreeing with your other points. Claiming the gameplay isn't good enough for dungeon crawling. That's false.
And they did do it again, with Reverie. Reverie was dungeon and gameplay focused, didn't have side quests or any new towns.
