Games this good used to only take 4 years of development, what happened?

Funding gets cut if the game isn't woke enough for the agenda that the funders are trying to push, means stories take forever to be finished and the "right" actors to play the role.

Has to be playable on different consoles and PC, optimized for all unless they get backlash

Writing staff quit or get fired for not making the story woke enough.

Developers must appease the game journalists, influencers and advertisers

Risky to make a new IP so they just stick to the same franchise they know and think is safe

Better tfor their wallets to just make an online game with micro transactions and lay off their development team than it is to create something new

Developers would rather continue a popular IP like dragon age or star wars knowing they will sell no matter how bad the game is, rather than make a new IP to sell their woke garbage and be surprised the game flopped (concorde)

what's even more concerning is that Unreal Engine 5 hands a developer everything they need to slap a game together in a few months, and yet it still takes them years to release unfinished, buggy slop.

At least from what I've researched CD Project Red is working closely with Epic to improve Unreal Engine in various ways. This will help other devs in future use cases.

It's a lot to handle, and frankly a pain in the arse during the duel with Letho, when you have to pull out all the stops to survive.

Yeah I turned it on easy, and I've enjoyed my time with it since.

Witcher 2 is an interesting game. It's right on the cusp of being a great game, something they accomplished later with Witcher 3.

I finished the game, then went back to complete Roche's route, this time on the swordsman path and on normal difficulty.

An exceptional RPG. I did not expect the game to be completely different depending on who you side with. Roche's path was more intriguing. I even got used to the combat and found it enjoyable at times. Amazing world and characters. Really cool armors too.

Seems like an underrated game. Janky, like all great cult classic RPGs.

People want voice-overs in all languages
People want to checklist a DEI box
People want realistic graphics

Devs are less skilled because of hiring checklist boxes of DEI
Devs are less free to express themselves because of corporations checklist
Devs are forced to port every game to every console for profit
Because of the game size, it needs more Devs and those devs are not in good touch with each other so merging content takes a lot of time (e.g cinematics + story + gameplay)
