I wish Strangers of Paradise dropped some lore on this.
>>3945230But SoP being all the other games in a blender, we probably would have gotten something like this.
>>3945231Or this
>>3945232or thishttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3wSGRKQ9TE
Moogles did this.
>>3945238Funny you mention Moogs. In 7s treatment that got dropped for Gears, they were responsible for giving humans tech. Here is 9s best
>>3945230Did they drop any lore on The Skycastle?
>>3945245In the original game there were 2 civilizations. The Onrac and the Lufenians. Which collapsed around the same time because of the water and wind fiends. The Sky Fortress belong to the Lufenians. The airship was created by Cid, naturally, who was also a Lufenian. The Dissidia games elaborated on them more, saying Onrac and Lufenians were at war with each other. In general, I believe the Lufenians were mechanical, and the Onrac were magical and had summoning arts (even though summoning wasn't a staple until later in the series.). You see that echoed across the series. With Bevelle and Zanarkand in FF10, or Lindblum and Alexandria in FF9.Even though Stranger of Paradise was marketed as an "Origin" prequel of sorts, it's basically it's own multiverse incursion story. Where the Lufenians got some dimension warping tech and started reshaping their world with parts from other dimensions. So the Sky Fortress in SoP was actually the The Tower of Babil from FF4, which was likely a Lunarian design. FF4 had the "Lunar Whale" to travel between the Lunarian's moon and the planet. But the Tower could create a "dimensional elevator" to transport the Giant of Babil - which is essentially Alexander before Alexander was a thing. And why Alexander's attack is called "Final Judgement" because it's this apocalyptic thing.
>>3945295The Tower of Babil and the "Tower" of Zot are often confused because you see Babil as a tower, while Zot is an invisible location in the sky. They're probably meant to be like FF1's mirage tower, connecting to the Sky Fortress. Or, in Xenogears (originally pitched as FF7), the Tower of Babel would dock with a floating city protected by a dimensional barrier. Only special crafts could pass through this barrier like the "Goliath" (named for a biblical giant)Similarly, in FF11, there's the floating Gardens of Ru'an ("of ruin" get it?) that were connected to Delkfutt's Tower. Same concept. The tower was a kind of dimensional elevator powered by the mother crystals that was supposed to lift the Garden of Ru'an through the "Gate of the Gods" (Which is what "Babel" or "Babylon" meant in Akkadian)In FF7 the "floating city" ended up being Midgar. And Shinra was still aiming to become "gods". The Remakes reveal/retcon the Ancients called the Cetra (scientific name for whales) as having previously grasped somekind of higher dimensional control over the planet's history. So they're all kind of in the same ball park. But some games you have to squint to see it.
>>3945304In FF16 for example, the ancient civilization called "The Fallen" or "The celestials"(in japanese), had floating cities too and magitek airships. Clive's base "The Invincible" is a fallen airship. There was also the tower of Reverie in Walod, and at the top, Clive and Joshua end up in a dimensional rift. But they don't explain what the hell this is, or what "Ultima" is, and what they're trying to accomplish.
The pattern in all of this, is that there is a literal and metaphorical pinnacle to the world. For gods and giants. Crystal and energy beings. And the concept isn't unique to Final Fantasy. It's in Escaflowne, where the evil emperor is actually Isaac Newton, who was isekai'd to another world and built a grand machines to maintain a "zone of absolute fortune". Picking up where Atlanteans left off. Or Dune's "golden path". But at what cost, and on who's shoulders? In Xenogears, the ship The Excalibur rammed into the Merkava, proceeding the events of the game. Which was an interstellar transport vessel for Deus.
>>3945307I have not read the new Lore book for FF16. But I'm willing to bet that the Ark Isles were also a kind of fallen sword ship, that was pinning "origin" down.
>>3945245I love IX vehicles a lot.
I thought this thing was actually pretty cool and intimidating until the stupid comedy claw came out
>>3945226I still have to play Xenoblade. I loved Xenogears, never finished the Xenosaga trilogy, and have not played Blade 'cause I prefer turn-based RPGs to action RPGs. From what I understand though Xenoblade is really, really good.
>>3945206
>>3945383just to temper your expectations: Xenogears is my favorite RPG of all time, and unfortunately none of the Xenoblade games come close to matching Xenogears. XC1 is pretty good and has a mostly serious, character and story driven narrative. XC2 goes all-in on the shonen anime antics and is tonally very different from what you would expect, but otherwise a decent game. XCX has the best locations, atmosphere, exploration, and is the only game with playable mechs, but the story is pants-on-head retarded. haven't played XC3 yet.
>>3945307>this and your replies So anon, OP here, it can be summed as thus for a good chunk of JRPGs. We were once great, some even reached the stars, something happened, so long ago it really can’t be remembered, but we shit the bed so bad we actually burned down the house as now we do what anyone sensibly can, try to put it back together or leave it alone?
>>3945435Ah one who seek the original Project Noah.

>>3945787I like how this one looks like a flexible train
>>3945787Grancypher will always look retarded.
FF5's airship is fairly generic, which is part of its charm, but I'd love to see an attempt at a modern redesign to take into account the fact that it also transforms into a submarine.
Big fan of the Little Jack from Skies of Arcadia. I love that this creaky little fishing boat ends up taking on armada battleships and eldritch gods of destruction.
>>3946502>Skies of ArcadiaAlso, the Claudia is a terribly underrated ship from that game, to the point that there are few good pics of it. It's got such a unique shape, between the giant side-sails, the armored cannon array right up front, the fuck-huge keel that makes it looks like some kind of deadly, deep-sea hunter. It's like a mid-life crisis turned into an airship. Perfect for Gilder.
>>3945787I love that one.
>Like the Extra Collection's design>Like the PR's interior aesthetics>Like the remake's layout, specifically the living quarters having four beds + a table and four stoolsThe FF3 invincible is underrated for how comfy it is.>>3945295>saying Onrac and Lufenians were at war with each other. It's never actually said who Onrac was at war with. Cid and his wife were identified as Lufenians and were brought in specifically for their ability to pass on/move memories (granted, it's more explicit in the 012 reports, but even the original arguably had it because why would Cid's wife go back to the native village of the state they more or less just betrayed?).
This one.

>>3946781top kek anon, thank you. St. Paddy's Day and I got Trips of Truth!? Jesus Christ that is nice! =]
>>3945206What other games let you explore inside your airship like Skies of Arcadia?
>>3946881The little known gem, Final Fantasy 7
>>3946749>like 40 people died as a result of an accident>public shits itself and the entire industry collapses as a resultUgh... what could have been...
>>3947122>no hindenburg>no chernobyl>chilling on my nuclear powered airship
>>3947131Yes, but even those timelines would be fraught with troubles
>>3947136>Yes, but even those timelines would be fraught with troublesWe would overcome them
>>3947122Isn't it also because it's really fucking expensive, the ships are huge and cumbersome, and can't actually hold many people while the best shit to make it float is a limited resource that will run out some day?
>>3947139As always, but our world would be…lacking in some…(for me at least, this is a hell before reaching death if we get to this point)
