This was one of the hardest challenges I have ever done and was also one of the most rewarding challenges i've ever done. If you love the series I would highly recommend. Does anyone still play fire emblem or am I super old now?
Yeah I played in the fire emblem ironman relay we had a couple years ago. Most people will do this with Pokimans but they call it something different.Final Fantasy Tactics has a permadeath mechanic too but in a much lighter form. Not that I would ever want to play that with the intention of ironman...But I tried doing one for FFTA1 and also Disgaea1 but dropped those ideas because I didn't think they were well thought out enough, and recently I've thought about maybe trying a Dragon Quest Monsters 2 ironman, with every death you get a hatch bonus, and you can get unlimited characters. It wouldn't be particularly hard to solo the game like that. And I've played in mmos where they have permadeath servers but that is probably not what you would find enjoyable.
>>3952929Ironman is retarded in basically every game, but if you want an incredibly hard ironman, play Knights of the Chalice 2.
I just remember that some roguelikes and dungeon crawlers have some very good ironman experiences but some are not so great.Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, while it has a very extensive postgame, you cannot get rid of your starters until you complete the maingame, and even though you recruit other pokes, you can't use them for the majority of the hard parts which... is kind of the whole point. In the first games, there are skindiving dungeons where you go in at level 1 with nothing but what you have but they also have very bad level scaling. Most pokes have very high exp curves with some requiring 30000 to level up as soon as level 20, and you'll be fighting lv35s that only give like 43exp. Genso Wanderer 1 has what I consider to be the best experience for these as it had a lot of creative mechanics that fit with their skindiving dungeons and are reasonably balanced. Haven't played the second game so I can't speak on it.
On my third attempt at Path of Radiance Ironman. Thoughts so far:I picked PoR for my first ironman thinking it would be easy, but it hasn't been a cakewalk. My perception might have been skewed by my last playthrough, where I reset abuse to the max to make the be-all end-all Radiant Dawn transfer team. The first run was cursed. Boyd got himself killed on Chapter 2 by opening his own lane with a 1% crit. Marcia took 4 straight hits to the face and died on the first turn before I had a chance to do anything near her. Ilyana was killed her first turn recruited because of a stubborn cavalry who wouldn't die and ignored six other targets and her Shade ability to help cut her health down.I finally gave up on the run when the prison boss killed Volke, Mia, and Oscar in consecutive turns (that dude is so FAT, crazy stats for how early in the game he is; also did not expect him to move).Second run was going okay, lost Soren and Mist to oopsies but was otherwise chugging. Ike hit the first speed cap at lvl 16, no Speed Wings, so he was turning out extra buff. But I made the fatal assumption that crows would prioritize chests, did not think they would attack but wasn't certain, and so prioritized saving my weaker units. But it turns out they will top priority capture the ship same as a Daein soldier. You know what they say about ASSumptions. My current plan is to survive until Keiran and Jill and pump them full of BEXP. Currently through the fort defense after Ike gets orphaned.Mia is so useless, no attack power, no defense, no utility, no range. I've raised her before but she has to be babied worse than Mozu.It is hard to stop Ike from level capping before Serene's Forest. He and Titania carry the team so hard for the first ten chapters.Do I invest in Marcia? I'm thinking of fronting a redhead all-star team.

>>3952929JA2 & Battle Brothers after a regular save-scummy playthrough so you know what you're doing
>>3953664Yes. Titania, Marcia, Jill, and the christmas cavs split the game in half, everytime I have used them they storm the game and leave no one alive
>>3952929Hey buddy, what the fuck does ironman mean
>>3953947generally it means that if a character dies, thats it, you cant revive them (if reviving is generally possible) and you cant reload a save to try again either.Live with the consequences kind of playstyle.
>>3952929Been playing through a ton of Fire Emblem ROM hacks recently and there's a lot of great stuff out there. Currently on Awful Emblem (supposed to be related the the Something Awful forums) and it's been solid. Cerulean Crescent is definitely my favorite and one of the most fun and unique hacks I've played through. Highly recommend it. If anything, I'm surprised that I don't see more conversations about the vast pool of Fire Emblem hacks out there with how much good stuff we've got.
>>3953954Depends on the game whether reviving is allowed or not. In the infinity engine games you can revive characters during an ironman, you're just not allowed to use a saved game to go backwards in time.
>>3953947In this case in particular it means playing the game as it was intended to be played.
>>3953664that prison boss is super tanky because hes optional, but its usually worth killing him if you've raised up enough unitsYes invest in Marcia, barring crazy situations/bad RNG both her and Jill are super good
