is this man a hero or a villain? he's incredibly important to the RPG genre yet at the same time caused serious damage and shouldn't be anywhere near another RPG again.what say you /vurpg/?
>>3953193>shouldn't be anywhere near another RPG againlol @ your thread
>>3953197hi Richard, hows that NFT scam going?
No LARPer should ever be allowed to touch actual RPGs, his obsession with simulationism was what ultimately killed the series (which had only two good games) and gave rise to the abominable opinion that first person shooters with swords or generic action adventures with dialogue choices and some numbers are roleplaying games.Sirtech>>>>Origin by the way.
>>3953271>Sirtech>>>>Originbut only because of Jagged Alliance 2
>>3953271>No LARPer should ever be allowed to touch actual RPGs, his obsession with simulationism was what ultimately killed the seriesyou wouldn't get it because you're not white.
>>3953193>is this man a hero or a villain?Neither, he's a nerd.>shouldn't be anywhere near another RPG again.Idk, Tabula Rasa was kinda ok for what that was going for. He's too eager to bend for the corporate cock though, so he's capable of making good stuff only by working with a small team or solo.
>>3953712>he's capable of making good stuff only by working with a small team or soloShroud of the Avatar disagrees
>>3953716Well, yeah. Being capable of making good games is not enought to make a good game.
>>3953275ahem
>>3953748No. He can fuck off hunting rectum gobblers in Grimoire.
>>3953748forgive my insolence and spare me, oh Mr. neanderthal, sir
>>3953756>Neanderthal>flat big dumpy foreheadYou're stupid.
>>3953912do a simple google search for Cleve Blakemore Neanderthal, you ignorant faggot
>>3953912Sape spotted
>>3953193reminder that he took credit for what roe adams made.>>3953912newfag lol
>>3953201>hi Richard, hows that NFT scam going? When was the last game he made? Two, almost three decades ago? What would possibly make you think he would ever make another game?
>>3953271>his obsession with simulationismYou're misremembering things. That was Looking Glass and Warren Spector.Lord British had a lot of good qualities, but he was ultimately way too impressionable to be a good director. He effectively had no real vision or values, which was good when he had talented visionaries on his team, but he was utterly worthless when things went bad.I think if you psychoanalyze the guy he found success too early. It short-circuited some of the parts of the brain you need to be a seasoned long term creator. He was too fragile, too easily bored, too reliant on an intuition that he lost due to lack of real world experience.
>>3954005>What would possibly make you think he would ever make another game?Money and envy? What else? That's always what's driven him.His pal Chris Roberts has raked in a billion dollars in crowdfunding scam. Spector works in academia and pulls in speaking and consulting fees in the 5-6 figures. Same with Romero. Even his fucking QA tester went on to become president of the biggest game studio in the world.Yes he can reach space and have zero-g weddings and whatever else, but he wants his slice of the pie to be the biggest as he feels he's the one that started it all.

>>3953193>he's incredibly important to the RPGDragonQuest would have been more like Wizardry if early Ultimas didn't exist. otherwise his influence on modern WRPGs if more limited. more autism stats less story and overworld explorations.Ultima Underworld influenced WRPGs more, but LB wasn't involved in it at all. TES: Arena would have been more like Hexen or Herectic if UUW never existed. WRPG might have ended up being more like FPS games with very little RPG elements.
>>3954058>Looking Glass and Warren Spector.agree.later on LB had more involvement with UO and that MMO in korea. and UO was a pioneer in MMORPGs. if anything LB popularised MMO gaming not muh simulationism. unless he thinks MMO games are sims.
>>3954152>his influence on modern WRPGs IS more limited. >DQ WOULD BE more autism stats ,less story and overworld explorations.
>>3953928>roe adamsI rarely hear anyone bring this up and it's depressing. When you look at how the virtues are treated in V, VI, and VII and read about Adams you start to ask questions. But no one does. Lots of Garriott worship though especially from JewTubers. Oh well.
>>3954171>JewTubersis warren spector a jew? if so, i love him more now.
>>3953193rpgs have been shit since AD&D2e
>>3954174>is warren spector a jew?He said he wouldn't make Deus Ex again today because of noticing.
>>3954058Spector only amplified what was already there, Garriot always wanted simulationist bullshit but was too incompetent to make it himself which is why he had to rely on people like Neurath and Spector to get it done, see how Ultima progressively shifted focus after V, see how Ultima Underworld and Ultima Online came at the tail end of the series' life, see how Garriot himself attempted a comeback in the industry with Shroud of the Avatar.>I think if you psychoanalyze the guy he found success too early.Garriot already found success with Akalabeth, which is what allowed him to even make Ultima to begin with, outside of that he's just a narcissist fraud like the vast majority of people with a lot of money, which is also not at all rare in the videogame industry and doesn't really need any "psychoanalysis" since it's rather blatant and shameless behaviour, see all the other has-beens like Inafune or Sakaguchi that just like Garriot love to dub themselves "father of/creator of" despite their actual contributions being questionable.
>>3954201Name your favourite RPG right now or your mother will die in her sleep, she will also die if you don't have a favourite.
>>3954201>>3954201>AD&D2ethose rules are shit and broken in the videogames. at best , i thought Dungeon Hack was kinda fun as a roguelike of sorts, but only cleric or cleric/mage multiclass was viable.
