did they change much of the source material going into EE? I can handle the sloppified UI, their shit characters and even the sacrilege of putting BG1 into BG2 engine (although this one has me puking every time) but did they change some of the og dialogue or important gameplay and balancing besides the summons and dagger of venom? Some dialogue between khalid and jaheira?
>>3958020Yeah they turned jaheira into a girlboss
anybody got the beamdog list of crimes copypasta? where is that guy now, i wonder if he still poasts
>>3958020The EE UI is terrible and the default zoom is way too far out and can't be locked. The new npc are badly written and feel out of place. They also added those shitty black outlines to sprites and they don't fully go away even if you disable them in the options. The original is still the best way to play it.
>>3958076>The original is still the best way to play it.(with mods and fixes)
https://baldursgate.fandom.com/wiki/Convenient_Enhanced_Edition_NPCsFor anyone who plays it for the first time use this mod to remove EE characters
>>3958076Iwd ee is fine. Imho they went full politics, this was their downfall. Worked for owlcucks, so they maybe worship the wrong financial overlords?
>>3958066I stopped after getting a week-long ban.
>>3958136Site is dying in real time, board at least. Sad. Was a supreme gentleman gathering. Now it's just hawaii.
>>3958124SoD was their final nail in the coffin. Bunch of freeloading faggots.
>>3958249>Was a supreme gentleman gathering. Now it's just hawaiiI thought the average ban was three days. This is extremely concerning
>>3958287>freeloading faggots. No doubt. Too much gay propaganda.
>>3958020>sacrilege of putting BG1 into BG2 enginemotherfucker BG fans made mods for that 20+ years ago because 1) BG1 has a lot of inconveniences like no pausing on the inventory screen and 2) everyone wanting to play the whole saga as a half-orc, among other things.EE doesn't change any of the original dialoguethere are unfortunately several scripted encounters where you walk into an area and have to endure a dialogue sequence with some of the EE charactersFor me, I thought Neera and Dorn were tolerable in BG1 and as a shameless powergamer getting elven chain from Dorn's quest for my fighter/mage meant he was going to be on my team regardless. But I played Siege of Dragonspear for the first time recently and holy fuck is the writing shit. Neera went from mildly annoying but somewhat charming to the most insufferable character in the game, and apparently if you romance her she starts dating someone else by the time you meet her in BG2. And that's not even getting to what they did with Safana.
>>3958327They are worse than fanfic chars
>>3958292It is. Shadowbans seems to increase, as do random bans for non offensive content.
A friend gifted me a BG3, and sadly I wasn't really impressed by this game and I'm planning to check out 1 & 2. What's the best way to do this: EE with mod that cuts off new beamdog content or originals with plenty of fixes and widescreen mods?
>>3958545Ee is to be avoided in bg. You can get HD and widescreen if you must. Other than that play vanilla and use mods after a trilogy 1,2 and tob playthrough. There's a new story mod coming up and there are several custom campaigns available unlike bg3 which has none. Classic bg has a huge modding scene.
>>3958545Its hard to recommend bg1/2 to somebody who started with bg3 because those games have nothing in common, they are different genre and theres almost 30year gap of technological progress between them. Also dont listen to the faggots who tell new people who have never played the game that searching for 50 separate fixes and 20year old mods to make the game barely run on modern system and still have no basic things like zoom in/out, no UI scaling and various other improvements is reasonable. If you really care this much you can remove EE companions with a single mod and have all the quality of life, instant load times and 64bit support of modernized engine.
>>3958552>Also dont listen to the faggots who tell new people who have never played the game that searching for 50 separate fixes and 20year old mods to make the game barely run on modern systemYou don’t need to do this. All I would recommend for a new player is one pack of bug fixes (easily to install, a single file), and a widescreen mod to play at 1280x720 or 1920x1080 (higher than that and everything is too tiny).>and still have no basic things like zoom in/out, no UI scaling and various other improvements is reasonable. If you really care this much you can remove EE companions with a single mod and have all the quality of life, instant load times and 64bit support of modernized engine.Beamdog still added a bunch of new bugs, and BG1 is still fucked up and imbalanced by being ported to the BG2 engine (items and spells work differently, weapon proficiencies are different with new ones added, class kits were added, new races and classes were added, and so on).I don’t dislike the EEs because they’re different, I dislike the EEs because of all the objectionable changes they made. If there were hypothetically different EEs made by different developers who didn’t shoehorn in garbage that needed to be modded out, didn’t add new bugs, and didn’t shoehorn the first game into the engine of the second, and solely consisted of revitalizing the engine for modern OSs, added optional QoL features, and added native widescreen support, I’d enthusiastically recommend it. That’s exactly what an “EE” should be. Unfortunately, that’s not what we got.
You could play GemRB with fix pack if you don't care for the dated engine. It's pretty good.
>>3958020>putting BG1 into BG2 engineMan, I remember how mirror image made you essentially invulnerable for a few hits in BG1. As long as there was one image left, all incoming damage would be 100% nullified. I abused this so much during a solo mage run. With the BG2 engine the spell works different and you can't abuse it anymore
>>3961454There is also a GemRB specific mod that allows you to play with up to 10 characters.
>>3958327>EE doesn't change any of the original dialogueFor anyone reading this, to clarify this is only true of EE1 (although they still changed numerous quests) Beamdog's mauled version of BG2 does substantially change dialogue, they even bragged about about 350k new words in the marketing. Avoid at all costs.
>>3961895Factually incorrect. There is no changed dialogue. All those extra words are from their OC donut steals and their associated quests/events. They weren't allowed to actually change dialogue.
>>3958327If it changes the rules it's sacrilege and BG2 did change a lot of rules. Enjoy your nerfed grand mastery.
>>3958020SOVL>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Kmmggc6jH8vssoulless>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6J-_Kv2z70
They changed the way stealth works. They added a cooldown to the stealth toggle that procs whenever you exit stealth. In the originals you only proc'd the stealth CD when you failed a check, so you could stealth -> open door -> stealth -> chunk enemy -> stealth -> set trap -> stealth and so on. It is super slick. In the EE you have to micromanage the cooldown in order to do any of that. It sucks and it has completely ruined the game for me. The unavoidable NPCs are terrible, too. The power creep from all the jacked up items they shower you with is another reason I hate it, but that's also a reason why I only play the OG BG2: SoA. When the EE first came out I was all about it, but they kept fucking with everything. They literally could not stop themselves from getting their grubby mitts on anything and everything they could and calling it a "fix." Now I hate it and won't touch it. Until Beamdog goes back and fixes their nonsense, they will be on my shitlist. That company is dogshit. If you want to play through the classics, then get the originals, install them directly to your C:/ drive and use Nvidia control panel to scale the game's resolution to fit your screen the way you like. I have no problems getting BG2:SoA to run on my W10 PC. The only true QoL feature the EEs give you is they make it a little easier to bind your keybinds. The quickloot is immersion breaking. The IE games are naturally less click intensive than modern games like DoS2/BG3, so it's nbd. Also, don't try to be a min-max power game autist with these games. It's a really easy way to ruin them. >>3958136Why did you get a ban for posting the pasta? >>3958552Ridiculous. You have no idea what you're talking about.
>>3961971you realize og BG1/2 varies vastly depending on patch? Hope u only play the beta version with all the gamebreaking bugs, missing content and play on 15" CRT in 640x480, with pentium 200mhz to experience the """original""" and only authentic version of the game u fucking retard
>>3962285It was for "ban evasion", I was banned for an unrelated thing, someone posted the pasta, and I got an extended ban for ban evasion. I was able to appeal it but decided to stop anyway.
>>3962287U rite, nigga. Lets play the hacked up version some 20 bajillion patches later that completely changes the game from what it was 26 years ago.
>>3962294u are free to play whatever version you want just dont project your crippling autism on others
>>3962299I'm not. You are being ridiculous. My recommendation is about as reasonable as can be.
>>3962287>15" CRT in 640x480lol, lmao even if you didn’t play BG1 on the ol’ 19” Sony Trinitron monitor that weighed a hundred pounds
>>3958020I hope you'll just play the original if you haven't already, and are merely curious about why EE is shit.
>>3962261They should've done what Nightdive does with its cinematics, in that they just look like the original was re-recorded in 4K.
>>3963135How did Nightdive accomplish that?
>>3962261I was gonna do as mod-lite of a playthruogh of EE as possible, but restored cinematics is a must.>>3962285>The quickloot is immersion breaking. This is the most insane old good new bad boomer shit I've ever seen.
>>3963141I assume the remake them from scratch, or if they have the assets, re-render them.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-cKTAJk_x8
>>3963277Quickloot destroys the backgrounds, nigga. You don't gotta look at anything or use your imagination at all. Press one button and voila the map lights up. Believe it or not we have things like puzzles and they aren't always called sudoku. Looking at the fine details on the map is not only an exercise, it's also a puzzle. You also don't have any idea what anybody or anything actually drops because it all gets lumped into a big pile. There are many characters that drop specific things, so yes it is immersion breaking to mindlessly pick shit up out of a disconnected pile of stuff.
>>3963813>i clicked the special hotkey to see quick loot and it hurts my autistic brain Then dont use the special UI YOU need to turn on and click on the ground to loot you turbo retard
>>3963813First of all, you senile demented retard, make up your mind whether you're talking about quickloot that rolls all the dead gnolls' inventories into one row so you can easily skip 50 copies of leather armor to loot just the gold or highlight interactibles buttons that wasn't even Beamdog's addition to the engine.Pixel hunting is not "puzzles" you dumb fuck. You are completely fucking delusional if you think there's a single instance of you needing to look at the map for details rather than just turning your brain off and hovering cursor over everything.Btw I'm playing with a mod that color codes whether container is empty. Hope you're having fun narrating to yourself "oh what great and wondrous mysteries await the fearless adventurer as he spots an ancient chest tucked away in a far corner of the dungeon, concealed by the shadows from all but the most perceptive elven eyes!" before clicking on a copypasted empty chest in some shack in Candlekeep where you've been stuck larping for the past 20 years.
>>3963813>Looking at the fine details on the map is not only an exercise, it's also a puzzleAn exercise, a puzzle?! LolIt cracks me up thinking this board is old guys saying stuff like this
>>3958327It cannot be overstated how bad the writing in Siege of Dragonspear is.The EE Characters went from tolerable or boring to outright insufferable through the context to them that SoD adds. Worse still ist how they piss over some of the existing characters and new added characters in SoD are just offensively bad. People mention Safana because its its like she was replaced by a Doppelgänger but I found what they did to Minsc/Dynaheir/Jaheira & Khalid so much worse. Dorn/Neera leaving you to rot in Jail at the end of SoD after all the shit you did for them is insane. To this day I am flabbergasted that they wrote this and that there were people who defended this.
>>3962287Fully patched Baldur's Gate with Tales of the Sword Coast is fine, no complaints. The backstabbing change requires more annoying micromanagement, but whatever, sensible enough.
For me its yandere female kensai bhaalspawn with the imoen romance mod
Any mods that help to deal with mandatory AFK sessions after you finished a 15 seconds fights and gotta wait through 15 minutes debuffs?
>>3964224I played these games when they came out and cannot recall a single instance where it was necessary to do this
>>3964224https://www.morpheus-mart.com/enhanced-powergaming-scripts
I don’t know much about these games. Was baldur gate the only one that got changed or did their game releases got effected as well?
>>3964884They all got crammed into the Baldurs Gate 2 engine, which fucked up BG1 and IWDBG1 and BG2 had garbage new NPCs and new dialogue for old NPCs addedBG1 had dumb new busted items added, probably applies to BG2 and IWD as wellAll the games got new bugs added to them as wellI actually like the PS:T EE and think it’s a worthy improvement, unlike the rest
>grab dispel magic and silence on my cleric to deal with mages and their bullshit>everyone just saves or resists and keeps spamming spellsI fucking hate DnD.
>>3964889What about Neverwinter Nights? I bought that one recently but on a unmoddable platform. I probably just refund and try to play the originals instead.
>>3958545>EE with mod that cuts off new beamdog contentThis is the best wayAnd no playing as half-orc or Berseker, that shit is designed for BG2 and makes BG1 too easy
>>3958020who cares? crap game built on a crap engine using the worst edition of d&d.
>>3964916NWNEE doesn’t have anything objectionable in it that I am aware of, with the exception that possibly some very old user created modules may be incompatibleNWN2EE I have not played, heard it was pretty buggy at launch. May be better now
>>3964952>the worst edition of d&dFifth edition is far and away the worst, no contest.
>>3964959nogaems culture war opinion, 5e offers the player a significantly larger degree of influence over the development of their character.
>>3964965>nogaems culture war opinionI played 2nd, 3rd, and 5th eds tabletop.>5e offers the player a significantly larger degree of influence over the development of their characterBullshit. One, the default of the game is no longer to roll for stats, or even point buy, but to take the “standard array” that every other character gets and use thatTwo, feats are now an “optional rule” at the DM’s discretion. By default there aren’t even any feats.Three, feats now directly compete with stat increases, and the majority of them are nearly worthless except for a few overpowered exceptions, so for almost every character, the optimal route to build your character is to just take the stat increases to pump your damage stat to 20. Super fucking boring.Four, the explicit intent of the games design (“bounded accuracy”) is to reduce the players ability to influence random rolls and to increase the relative effect of randomness, to make the game easier to balance for the DM. while at the same time adding advantage and disadvantage which fucking squares the probabilities because 5th ed was designed by morons2nd ed was for roleplaying3rd ed was for munchkin cheese powergaming faggotry5th ed is for casual fans of Critical Role
