Even the lines to be rude to him after siding against the goblins are weird. It's all like "You may be a giant hunk, but I don't care what you have to say". At this stage in the game, both the player and the party are under the impression that the parasite is extremely dangerous and needs to be removed immediately or everyone risks turning into mindflayers. Time is thought to be of the essence and all of your main quest hooks are about finding various entities who can help remove it. Before you even officially meet Halsin, his aide tries to have you poisoned back in the grove and you can read his own note where he reveals he’s completely unfamiliar with the parasite, and this encounter alone is enough to convince the player that Halsin’s an unhelpful dead end that cannot resolve your dire issue. After all of this, if you go through the effort of assaulting an entire goblin fortress with a party of four and save Halsin, he reveals to you at camp that again he has no idea what your parasite is or how to help you specifically. Meanwhile, Minthara is the best lead the party can have access to entirely as she’s connected to the cult that’s spreading the parasites and actually explains to you what they are and how to use their powers if you help her raid the grove. So.. a “good” player who wanted to resolve the conflict in the grove has to intentionally sabotage their own access to the only lead that can be obtained at that point in the game that’s of any help, and (for all intents and purposes) screw themselves over all because the refugees tugged on your heartstrings. After doing all of that, I’m even more surprised that there isn’t a scripted suicide ending that’s not treated as a game over.

Goblins don´t count though. The only good goblin is a dead one.
