The last Final Fantasy game with an overworld map came out in 2000.
>>3967852And it's such a great map too, very fun and rewarding to explore; and very dynamic between the airships, the fog going and coming back etc
>>3967852Type-0 was 2011
>>3967882And Bravely Default was 2012.
>>3967954It's not Final Fantasy any more than Mana is
>>3967969Yes I'm sure it's not final fantasy, a game with such original classes as the white mage with its white and red robe, the black mage with his fira and firaga, and such items like echo grass and megalixirs and dark matter, and a plot revolving around four elemental crystals holding the world together being corrupted and saved by the warriors of light, and for some reason having two Fs on the subtitle be sliiiightly larger than the rest. Oh and it's kinda funny how Adventurer is a useful NPC and superboss in both BD and FINAL FANTASY: The Four Heroes of Light...Bravely Default is a Final Fantasy game.Deal with it, faggot.
>>3967982Is Kingdom Hearts a Final Fantasy game?
>>3967989No it's a Disney-Squaresoft crossover game
The last Tales game with an overworld map came out in 2008
>>3967994I want to go back :(
>>3967852I can still hear the overworld theme
>>3968071No wonder, FFIX has the one leitmotif for the entire game and that's that.
overworld maps are an inefficiency that slow down the delivery of the next cinematic cutscene to the player
>>3968087They just don't do anything at all
>>3968087Wrong + you're gay
>>3968080What is even the point of exaggerating like this? Just off the top of my head, there's also VIvi's theme, Beatrix's theme, and Kuja's theme that all have variants spread throughout the game
>overworld mapYou JRPG fans have some gay ass terminology lmao
>>3967852One of many reasons I consider ffx the death of the series.
>>3970980It’s not a JRPG concept. For a modern example, storm of zehir. Plenty of older cRPGs used maps with two scales, a traveling map and then a smaller scale map for tactical dungeoneering.
>>3967852ni no kuni, my beloved
>>3967882Came to post this.
People only like them because of nostalgia, and of course the misplaced sense of “older thing better, newer thing worse”.When they were more common people were (rightfully) impressed by games that were able to do without them - like the Mana games, Trails in the Sky, or hell even Pokemon
>>3971212>When they were more common people were (rightfully) impressed by games that were able to do without them - like the Mana games, Trails in the Sky, or hell even PokemonYeah bro when Pokémon Red came out everyone went “Wow, this is so impressive, I’m glad it doesn’t have a gay world map like FF6 which came out several years ago”
>>3971219yes. the interconnected and continuous map is a big plus on pokemon over FF7, and on a handheld too.
>>3971219the mana games do have an overworld though
>>3971212no they weren't, it's simply a stylistic choice.i actually always preferred world maps to badly interconnected maps like seiken densetsu 2/3, ffx, etc. most of those games were done so poorly honestly.travel maps are pretty great for rpgs/crpgs in general, i liked the map in kingmaker a lot.>>3971266pokemon has good maps with fast travel options as progression so it feels ok, most of the earlier games that tried to do this failed super hard desu.
Your favorite FF overworld and why:
>>3967852Yeah, I know, that's one of THE worst and saddest changes to the franchise, the disappearance of overworld maps. That and the change to always-overhead POV with, basically, track lighting. In Final Fantasy games up to Final Fantasy X, you were walking into and out of art pieces, and the perspective would change to odd off-angles, so finding hidden items could be not only fun but very mystical, hidden and hand-worked, you know I played Final Fantasy XII up to the third chapter and I just couldn't stand it, the street and characters were bland and autistic and the perspective NEVER changed. They took all the worst parts of old Dungeons and Dragons video games and rewrite the series like that and every title from XII on has been garbage, since.
>>3971212>*laughs in Clair Obscur*
>>3967882nobody likes Type-0 and Tabata can SUCK MY DICK
>>3967982There's no Final Fantasy in the title so it isn't. That it's a spiritual successor or whatever is irrelevant here, because the thread is specifically about the last FF proper with an overworld.Retard.
>>3972686retard, Final Fantasy 16, 15, 14, aren't FF games, they only have FF in the title.Bravely Default, and Expedition 33 are FF games
>Expedition 33lmao just kill yourself my man
I'd call you a bummer, but honestly just fuck you.
>>3971533I don’t play goyslop, sorry
>>3972804That's nice, but the fact remains regardless of your personal opinions which I care not for.
>>3967852The first final fantasy game with an overworld came out in 1987
>>3972694
>>3967852Still the best. Still my favorite. And at this point that´s not changing. >>3971029Great game too.
Checking in to make sure everything is going my way here
Why doesn't the map in FF15 count? The only difference functionally is that there's no load between fights, the map and dungeons. Not getting into the quality of it all though because that's a different can of worms.
>>3974838*shrill, terrified scream*
overworlds were a meme
>>3975250You are a meme.
