Why am I getting filtered so hard and I'm not even at the end of Chapter 1?

Basic enemies are two shotting party members with normal attacks in random encounters (even with Shields equipped, and no it's not just the Mages), bosses are throwing team wide nukes that do 80% even if you Default, and trying to attacks with multiple party members in a single turn always puts you at risk of getting fucked over because you can't tell when a boss will just Brave and then two-shot any of your party members if you're not Defaulted that turn.

Also there's a weird variance on speed stat rolls each turn so you're never quite sure if you're get that move or heal off in time that specific turn.

What am I doing wrong?

BD has a really bad HP inflation problem, but boss AI is predictable and exploitable. For instance you can seriously screw over a lot of boss AI with Hasten World from the Time Mage class, and the Performer boss becomes a lot easier if you kill just one of her goons and sleep the other.

Also since this is a job system Final Fantasy game, what are your jobs?

Maybe grind a little but do use a monk. He was a powerhouse for the first long while.

Don't remain as freelancers.

>Have half the party go down the physical jobs and the other half do the magical ones
>Instead of trying to master a specific one before moving on, note that each chapter has a "softcap" where it basically tells you to learn something else

At at the Khamer optional boss fight at the end of Chapter 1 before going off to the woods (I don't know if this is missable or not if I progress to Chapter 2.

> The previous optional boss P.Def are so high compared to the ATK of the weapons at this point in the game you can end up doing single digit damage with melee weapons and I had to progress the story until I got the Mythrill Weapons in the woods

Absolutely not fucking fair.

So do boss/enemy movesets always work in some sort of pattern or is it completely random. As in, do they do 3 or 4 turns of this, and then on the 5th turn they will Brave and do bla bla bla? If it's entirely random, why would I go all-out on a turn if they boss can just mitigate that entire time if it Defaulted? Vice versa, why would I risk Braving if the boss can also Brave that turn and then combo focus any single party member and take them out?

Some bosses do the same thing in highly predictable patterns and all of them have some pattern to notice, usually dependent on how many brave points they have.

Physical damage was weak early on but quickly starts to outpace magic. Physical was king by the end of the game.

Use Doublehand and P.Atk+ for physical. Make sure its a weapon you're good at.
Bow users like Thief/Ranger will trade DH for some other boost.
