Is Growlanser playable in English? What’s the best version: PSX or PSP?

I’ve heard the fan translation is still incomplete. Should I just start with IV in that case? Or play Langrisser?

Yes

>What’s the best version: PSX or PSP?

To the question "What's better: the original version of a game or it's handheld port?", the answer is always "the original".

This fact is double true for JRPGs, and quadruple true if the port was from the 7th gen or after.

but growlanser iv is better on psp

Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection on PSP is better than the console version. Final Fantasy, Suikoden, list goes on.

Anyways, is the PSX translation playable?

I heard the translation of the PS1 version ia fully playable, just unedited or something. The PSP version of the game has some additional content, but is untranslated.

Growlanser 4 is a stand-alone entry with no real ties to the rest of the series, so there's no issue with jumping into it whenever.

About an hour in, translation seems pretty clean so far, although expecting it to tail off.

The game itself is already BTFOing most RPGs of the era. The prologue is a mini-quest hub that actually has some interesting mechanics, and as it turns out, every decision you make ends up affecting your base stats. You don’t even get that sort of effort in modern games.

i recently finished the fan translated PS1 version and i had zero issues, it had very few typos and that's it

and yes you can start with it but it's a slow game and if your not attached to the series you may end up giving up on it, that's why i recommend starting with 3 since it's a prequel and more easy to get into
2 is a direct sequel to 1 so don't start with it, 4 is a hard game for newcomers to the series and it had a weird pacing all over the place, 5 (6 is a direct sequel) can filter you if you're not familair with the series

play order is 3 > 1 > 2 > 4 > 5 > 6

4 is easily the best game in the series though.

Either 4 or 1. If you care more about gameplay then 4 wins, since it has more strategic fights whereas 1 is pretty dull. However, 1 has better story/characters/music/etc so I think it'll more people who are looking for a 'jrpg'.

>so I think it will be the favorite of people who are looking for a 'jrpg'.
>>
>>3969897
no it's not, faggots like you and >>3969936 parrot this shit like drones
the objective ranking of the series is
6 > 5 > 3 > 4 > 1 > 2

even tho 4 had better gameplay than 3 but because the pacing is shit, the music is the worst in the series and the characters are the least interesting, the protagonist is the blandest, and the stuid new setting (muh standalone entry) was a mistake after the first trilogy (that's why the VN spinoff fixed this) all of these flaws mak Kinolanser 3 the better game
and if G1 had gameplay as good as the PS2 title it'll also be better than 4

shame you're wrong
