People will really defend this ‘detective’ ‘RPG’:>Witness of the murder was there on the run from corrupt government officials in ungoverned and unpoliced part of town.>At the penthouse of a hotel for months (had loads of money apparently).>Hanged out with mercenary that harasses other women, brags about his atrocities and is always dressed in armor.>When he is killed by a bullet from an unknown killer, witness doesn’t leave the hotel and flee but keeps living at the crime scene.>Fortunately no one called the police because of local vigilantes that replace the police there, so there is no crime investigation that would have revealed her location to the corrupt government officials that want to kill her (she used to be a top-secret spy for them).>Still asks local vigilantes to divert the attention to them just to be sure.>They will agree with it because anyone who comes to their district is desperate and deserves protection (even when they can afford a luxurious penthouse for months).>With their help, stages a lynching by the vigilantes to divert any attention from her, but still makes herself the motive of the lynching.>Calls the police because she wants the body to be taken down.>The police arrive, can’t magically take the body down and ask a local to do it.>They investigate her and she lies to them but also says the vigilantes are lying about the lynching.>The vigilantes tell the police what really happened.>The police return to her, she goes along with the story thus becoming a witness in the investigation.>Tells the police she is on the run from corruption and won’t lie anymore, asks them not to take her in or register her name.>Lies about who came up with the lynching and about her name, using the name in her fake passport after telling the police where she hid her fake passport.
Cont.>When the police are off to retrieve the fake passport, upon which they can see that her name is actually a fake name in her fake passport, she stays where she is and doesn’t flee yet.>The police don’t find anything and return. The fake passport disappeared unbeknownst to her. When the police leave again she marks the direction from where the bullet came and now flees, having solved the investigation for the police.
>>3969838Politics have somehow gotten gayer because actual time tested truths have to compete with retarded convenient hyperreality of many different factions. Disco Elysium is insightful to the retarded worldview of a Leftist but people keep gaslighting others into believing that the retardation is intentional. Search of a review on YouTube and you won't find a video critically analysing the politics of the game.
>>3969838didn't you just make this thread?
>>3969838This isn't a murder mystery game, that's just set dressing. The story is actually about how people create convoluted theories and hold onto personal pain in order to justify the pleasure of a self-destructive addiction.
>>3969871I did lol it got deleted for some reason
>>3969882>The story is actually about how people create convoluted theories and hold onto personal pain in order to justify the pleasure of a self-destructive addiction.Like a gay man having unprotected sex and sharing meth needles then blaming HIV on the government!
>>3969871>>3969882/thread
>>3969882Like I said before the thread got deleted even though there’s a 300 reply Mass Effect thread up dissecting the plot, the game ends with the convoluted phasmid theory being proven so I don’t see how that’s self-destructive>>3969900
>>3969904You have to be 18 to post here.
>>3969910Ok Timmy you don’t need to flex, go to bed now
>>3969889>I did lol it got deleted for some reason>>3969913>Ok Timmy you don’t need to flex, go to bed nowThese are the subhumans we now share the internet with.
>>3969904>the game ends with the convoluted phasmid theory being proven so I don’t see how that’s self-destructiveYou aren't picking up what I'm putting down, this goes beyond narrative and into the writers themselves. Besides, what is a phasmid?
>>3969929>You aren't picking up what I'm putting downI am, the theory just sucks. The Australian guy did all that with zero proof of the phasmid existing and got rewarded for it. You can just use less vague descriptions and say the message is ‘drinking is bad’ and the plot still sucks while absolutely being advertised as a murder mystery game for buyers
>>3969968>I amYou are absolutely not understanding what he is saying, because you either have an IQ of 80, and/or you are underaged with zero life experience.
>>3969968The phasmid is the externalization of an addiction. I think the word "theory" is confusing you because you have associations built around it.
>>3969985>The phasmid is the externalization of an addiction.Like a 4channer thinking everyone he's arguing with on the internet is the same person.
>>3969985Of Harry’s drinking addiction? Then why does everyone else see it as well?
>>3970024No, the Deserter is an unknowing addict to it, it strengthens him to withstand reality and contorts him from embracing it, the Deserter is the mirror of Harry, just further along that path.
>>3970032Then how the hell could he justify it if he doesn’t know about it? Just saying your theory is shit
>>3970100>this goes beyond narrative and into the writers themselvesThe Deserter and Harry are extensions of the writer. Stop trying to "one up", it makes you a shallow thinker.
>>3970120>the story is not about that, it’s about this>akchually the story doesn’t make sense like that either, it was just the intention of the writer (?)You’re one upping as well, guess we’re all shallow thinkers
>>3970120The Deserter and Harry are extensions of what is wrong with this game. The writing isn't deep, it's obtuse and ambiguous and a dream for escapists who like to project. They tapped their market well.
>>3970180I don't have a problem with disagreement, it's when disagreement is preemptively sought due to a lack of understanding. The part you can't reach is that I dislike the themes of the game more than you do and I have several criticisms, the positioning of history as a burden and humanity as doomed because of personal choices to hold onto the past rather than such narratives themselves as a seductive force due to an excess of reliance on rationality, it's just that few people can follow along enough to even get to that point.
>>3970183Depth is relative, it's relatively deeper than many games. It's also self-indulgent.
>>3970189>Depth is relative, it's relatively shallower than many games.Same difference.>It's also self-indulgent.Agreed.
>>3970204It's talking about things that most games don't, for sure. The gonzo vagueposting style of it is just a stylistic choice and you're right that it does attract a certain type, but there's real heart in it, the dude is exposing himself honestly.
>>3969838having not played this, I'll never know if I should bitch at it being pretentious or at the faggots that knee-jerk shittalk it.Only playing games where you can be a cute elf girl, alas.
>>3970256>It's talking about things that most games don't, for sure. Depends on the games you play I suppose, from my experience I wouldn't say any of the subjects it raises are groundbreaking. It frames them in interesting ways and brings them to the forefront of the story but that's about it.
>>3970271I wouldn't say its pretentious. Best way I can surmise it is through Gordon Ramsay: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WcScZc4oBFk>You've got your priorities wrong, just because the word wagyu sounds glamorous and expensive doesn't mean it's going to deliver you the tastiest burger.DE isn't a bad a game offers a big meaty bite but it misses the mark in a few places. The pretentiousness comes from the fanbase.
>>3970286I did get the feeling that it does the narration equivalent of ham acting - relying on ornamental form. I'm more of a fabula man instead of a syuzhet man, personally, but I can see that's just preference and doesn't mean the game has to be bad.
>>3970014A 4channer thinking everyone he's arguing with on the internet is the same person is the externalization of an addiction? A 4channer thinking everyone he's arguing with on the internet is the same person is a phasmid? I don't get it.
>>3970272>Depends on the games you play I supposeDrop some recs.
>>3969838The crime is just set dressing. The real story is the Detective getting his shit sorted.
DE is ultimately vapid, encouraging individuals to create meaning is atomization and the excessive ego of the intellectual.
>>3971011>Advertises itself as a detective RPG>The crime is just set dressing.

>>3969838>""""detective rpg""""">everything listed is information gathered through investigation and exploration, most of which requires purposefully taking dialogue routes based on conclusive thinking>The police arrive, can't magically take the body down-you can shoot it down with a check>She solves the investigation-No, she gives her best help. We have no reason to believe whatsoever she knew the shooter was The Deserter, nor did she give a specific arrow pointing to B-Triple-Prime, Harry did that
cyoas and vns board when
>>3971082It’s not an RPG, it’s a visual novel. It’s also a story with detectives in it but that doesn’t make it a coherent detective story.>you can shoot it down with a checkYou can also not take the body down at all. I highlighted the most likely course of action, she could have simply asked someone to take the body down instead of calling the government that’s after her>nor did she give a specific arrow pointing to B-Triple-PrimeShe literally puts a thread up pointing the islet
>>3971104>She puts a thread up to the isletWhich is not Triple-B-Prime itself, rather the area containing it, The Deserter's shitty nest with the wet mattress. If Klassje knew that much she could've just wrote a note saying "The shot came from a window from the old fort". That's when you arrive and actually determine that specific nest to be the origin of the shot, thereby leading you to The Deserter, which Klassje failed at>She could have simply asked someone to take the body downYes, and the game makes a point to express how completely imbecile she is for her actions, because this is a game about self-destructive, brain rotted stupid addicts fucking themselves up and how these people interact with society, including Harry himself. The only character who fucks themself over more than Klassje is pre-amnesia Harry>Its not an RPGBy definition an RPG "is a game in which players assume and play out the roles of characters in a fictional setting", you play as Harry, and the role you determine him to become in society and in view of himself is so important there's entire questlines devoted to the different kinds of character you could have him become, and entirely different endings, like shooting a kid in the skull>But that doesn't make it a coherent detective storyThe game delves pretty deep into the investigative and "Cop" nature of itself, even utilizing a few detective tropes like the femme-fatale and tragic backstory and shit. If you don't see this as a detective-genre story, i can only guess its because you don't approve of the Klassje plot, which isn't a requirement to complete the game as the different endings exist, including the independent investigation regarding the hole in the church that ends up with Harry being abducted by the moralists
>>3970271who is this cutie
>>3971239Again, for the upteenth time, Super Mario isn't an rpg because you "assume the role" of Mario.
>>3971239>determine that specific nest to be the origin of the shot, thereby leading you to The DeserterIdk why you would argue this, it’s false, they happened upon the nest, which didn’t lead them to the Deserter, while looking for fuel to open a door. Klaasje just pointed to the islet which is obviously small enough to search through>the game makes a point to express how completely imbecile she is for her actionsIt does not, actually I seem to be the only one here to point out all this moronic shit. It presents her as a well-versed mysterious spy that they don’t know if they can trust>By definition an RPG "is a game in which players assume and play out the roles of characters in a fictional setting"Now I see, you’re a moron
>>3971272That must be an easy argument to make if you ignore my whole point about how Disco Elysium lets you decide and change your role based on your decisions and see the setting’s reaction, which obviously the plumber game doesn’t do. “Assuming the Role of Harry” doesn’t mean anything, because he doesn’t have a role at the game’s start, you don’t even have to abide to your detective duties
>>3971290>they happened upon the nestAnd then determined it to be the shot point. They didn’t go to the islet for that specific point in mind but after realizing this is where the shooter lives, Kim says “we should move, now” heavily implying he believed the shooter was still there and called for further investigation>it does notHer brain’s fried by drugs, even the Hardie boys are impressed by how far she takes it (and this game’s message about drugs is not exactly nuanced). She literally calls herself “stupid and mediocre” when talking about her past>you’re a moronInteresting how of all your points this is the one you don’t delve on
The writing is ambiguous and meaningless in a way that allows depressed people to associate their own meaning into the story. All lightning-in-bottle popularity stories have this going for them.
>>3971481It's escapism.Like liberals screaming about Palestine to mask the fact that their homelife is a mess.
>>3971337>he believed the shooter was still there and called for further investigationThere was no further investigation that Kim called upon, they were investigating already and wanted to open a door. Still don’t know what you’re trying to argue but sure start contradicting yourself now, it doesn’t lend any credit to your other ‘observations’ about the game though>Her brain’s fried by drugsShe is not on drugs during the game. She is perfectly well-spoken and your skills don’t once hint at her mental capabilities being inferior because of brain damage. It simply didn’t happen and is cope that this shitty writing is supposed to be intentional>you’re a moronSure let me delve on (?) it: you’re eating up some reddit definition that’s also accounting for table top shit. You can perfectly play an RPG in a non-fictional setting
>>3971066>still can't and won't admit that it is a commie gamehttps://youtu.be/yeTnMS7oB_0?t=341It is why culture moves only Leftward>Group A makes thing with Group A message>If Group A talks about the message in the thing, then it is normalized.>If Group B talks (critically) about the Group A message in the thing, Group B are treated as schizos for pointing out Group A's ridiculous beliefs.>Group B makes thing without any overt political messages>Group A co-ops or condemns it He is also blind to how shit Fallout on Prime is like a lot of other people.
Nadda, I won't defend this since Its capable of doing It by itself. What a wacky game about salami slices giver and sammiches from old yaoi.
>>3969838>luxurious penthouseThe Whirling in Rags is a bar/inn with a grand total of three available rooms (two of which are technically the same room that’s been artificially separated into two different ones by locking off the bedroom from the living room and using the living room couch as a makeshift bed) and was originally the workshop of a pinball maker. The cost of a single night at this repurposed establishment is less than the total price of purchasing a board game set, the manager/owner cannot afford to hire more than a single bartender, and relies on cheap immigrant labor to cook the establishment’s food. What’s more, the owner and cafeteria manager has so little control over the autonomy of the establishment that he is forced to reserve space daily for the local Union that’s directly involved in drug dealing. Does that sound “luxurious” to you?
>>3971247The beggar elf girl from WotR, but that is not her canon look (except burn scars and missing fingers)
>>3972539It’s good to know there’s people that get even more invested in lore than I do. You don’t seem to know what a penthouse is though, which is the part I was talking about, it looked pretty good and I think they even mention that in-game.
>>3969838Probably the most overrated RPG ever made, ever more than Skyrim. Its extremely shallow, i have no idea why people glaze this shit!!!
>>3971592If you need video games to "escape" from your daily life, you need help, preferably from a licensed professional.
>>3969838Just the fact that you can't even belittle the Deserter, an unapologetic murderer in the name of communism, in a game that's mostly about choosing a political side, should have been the only condemnation any player needed. Instead, because our society has no standards in education anymore, it became a top 3 bestselling 'CRPG' of all time. Womp womp.
>>3969838i heard it's a commie game and i hate leftists so i never played it
>>3969838I wish this game was a disco vibe turnbase battle rpg. fighting in asylum like I thought it was, instead of another overrated indie slop bullshit.
>>3971272anon were you dropped on your head
>>3971481seems like the type a shit those fake Jews make
>>3970271it's pretentious and I wasted my fucking paycheck on buying it I should've just played from dust, at least there I can be god and judge the natives as they jackoff to eachother in their sleep
>>3969838kek someone got filtered
I just finished the sacred and terrible airKurvitz can't write and ending to save his life
>>3976846You simply can’t get filtered by this slow-burn type of shit, there was no subtlety about it, all the themes you could get filtered out of were in your face
