If japs supposedly made their video games like they are toys, the west definitely didn't think that way. I don't think they are stubborn, they just had a different idea about what a video game is. Honestly having played most of the 90s PC greats, especially the titles with little action, it felt like I was a secretary at a dental office wrangling with a PC that barely works. People make fun of some of those Steam simulation games feeling like working a job but I think that's pretty close to describing it. It's like working a job cooler than your day job, getting paid for progression with a feeling of accomplishment instead of money. Though to be fair they used to make fun of fatlus games for being grinding mcjob simulators. At least they don't make the activity painful though.
