Personally I want a remake of 1. Finding out the incompetent female miniboss turns into a wife candidate long after I could do anything about it was kind of disappointing, but now I know.

And the combat is pretty required. You can stay in town and farm crops but you won't get very far without stuff from the world outside.
I personally did forcibly extend a gap between act 1 and act 2 and basically just ground up crops/played "fantasy harvest moon" while I dated and got married but it's certainly not the intended way to play any of the Rune Factories

There's actually some interesting stuff to it, like a hidden EV-like system (similar to pokemon) and a system where the gifts/food you give it will slowly increase it stats or give it status attacks
And when you give them/your npc party members food, they will also get stat boosts for the day (the same ones you'd get if you ate it yourself, so for example, if you drank juice your magic would increase for a while) plus there's a few buffing spells/healing spells to help you manage it better
One of the best starter pets you can get is the fairy in pic related, plus you can give her her own daily drop to boost her magic stat over time

I remember that being one of the more annoying roadblocks in the game, but it was mostly because I usually would rush it to unlock the character sooner than later. iirc healing with actual potions is significantly faster than food, and then magic is still faster than eating at least, but I don't think there's any getting around having to do it outside of a menu.
If you haven't bothered experimenting with improving equipment, you might find that gives a pretty significant boost that could help a lot.

Interesting, I have no way to magically heal yet nor have they shown off or introduced item improving I don't think yet. Day 8, pico showed up during the bean festival so I figured I'd investigate. I think it's worth it. While a step down from RF4 it's not really a bad game after the fixes. The PC version removes most of the slowdowns too. I would say the only real problem I still have with it is how long days are, that's the real deal killer.
