Why did the RPG genre peak so soon?
That isn't Chrono Trigger.
That isn't FFVII.
>>4023863Disc 1 was good but Disc 2 fell off hard with bullshit plot twists like having a level 1 grunt killing a level 50 top soldier. Then Disc 3 was just garbage, the worst endgame of Final Fantasy since the NES era. There was only two good optional bosses and the final dungeon is just a boring hour long walk to the end where you fight three bosses and I haven't even got to the shitty ending yet. Just the MCs watching Holy fight Meteor then an explosion then show some stupid 500 years later ambiguous shit. The most unsatisfying ending of the entire franchise. Also, the game's terribly balanced so a brainless button masher could breeze through. I actually have to go easy on the bosses just to make the battles interesting and have restarted many battles because I won without even seeing the boss' gimmick.

>>4023834>Why did the RPG genre peak so soon?Because it veered too heavily into storytelling and simulation. The 16-bit era was the perfect storm of technical constraints and capabilities, enabling gameplay-focused RPGs to feature lightweight but complete and memorable stories in abstract fantasy worlds that were fun to explore.>>4023863FFVII is a 2D (light)RPG formula with a handful of largely aesthetic 3D enhancements.
>>4023882>bullshit plot twists like having a level 1 grunt killing a level 50 top soldier. That's the central premise of the story, you fucking moron. Also known as "Narrative Selection Bias" IOW the reason it's an interesting story worth telling is because lvl1 Cloud killed lvl50 Sephiroth.
>>4023882>bullshit plot twists like having a level 1 grunt killing a level 50 top soldierSephiroth holds onto the blade because of the exact sense of hubristic powergaming this statement expresses
>>4023954Impossible!
It hasnt peaked yet
>>4024171The new peak arrives with the completion of the FF7 remake trilogy. Personally I can hardly wait.
>>4023882>Just the MCs watching Holy fight Meteor then an explosion then show some stupid 500 years later ambiguous shit. The most unsatisfying ending of the entire franchise. It's not meant to be satisfying. Alot of things in FFVII wasn't designed to give you that feel-good vibes.>Also, the game's terribly balanced so a brainless button masher could breeze through.I dunno, it's easy to get lost (both in exploration and combat) if you've never played a JRPG before.

>>4023834did it? 2000s didn't seem that far away to me. but im probably living in the past.
we're only now far out enough to see the impact of team level decisions (such as engine use) on entire historical structures
>>4024619esls don't have rights and they don't dominate ANYTHING. Deport this faggot.
>>4023860Yeah, Chrono Trigger's decent but it's nothing compared to the genius of FFV.
