No, of course not, and you would be foolish to think otherwise.

Bump it up to at least Hard so Mungo King spawns and then you'll understand. He's got a way more powerful mastery board than he did during the story mission.

Alisa by herself can't reach one of the monkeys on a balcony - there aren't any stairs and it's way too far for jump attacks to land. Picking 'finishing off remaining enemies' without any bosses left essentially softlocks the mission in that specific scenario. Maybe grenades could be used, but I doubt even three of those can get a kill at cruel/challenge/high risk.

It's not more difficult than your average turn based. You get the characters one by one and you have a lot of time to experiment. The very complex shit is when you up the difficult level to very hard fuck my shit up hexing must die.

It works pretty well on Kylie and Ray, and decently on Alisa. I've never tried it on Heixing or Giselle. The effects are hard to comprehend just by reading the masteries because so much of it looks like conditional nonsense, but in practice a build like that ends up evasive as fuck with insane accuracy and speed, and pretty good damage and HP. With postgame masteries they also spam buffs on themselves like nobody's business.

Okay, first playthrough done, have a meme.
The last mission took 2 tries. On the first one I only had Misty and Heixing left against the tankiest destron and they weren't gonna even scratch him, so I cheesed him by running away in circles until he ran out of fuel. On the second try I killed them fairly. 60V is much easier.

Which character in the game would be the most likely to actually play Troubleshooter?
>>
>>2108419
Misty, but that's too easy. Other than her...Heixing I guess.
>>
Anyone else play other games, read the writing, and wonder how the hell Troubleshooter is the poster child for bad writing? Yes, Troubleshooter has its issues, but so many games are so much worse, and few are actually better.
>>
>>2108804
Who said Troubleshooter has bad writing?
I could understand thinking the prose is bad because it's an awkward translation, so sometimes the sentences sound weird. But the plot and characterization is pretty good I think.

I appreciated how most of the characters felt more "realistic" than your typical anime-style game. Most of the time each character has an assigned trope, a backstory if they're lucky, and that's their character. Especially in strategy games with a big roster. Fire Emblem is the worst for this.
In Troubleshooter they felt more like real people to me. Especially the characters from Alley. Irene is probably the silliest, and if she's all the way on that end of the spectrum then that shows how down-to-earth the characters are overall.
>>
>>2108804
The main issue with Troubleshooter's writing is that the translation is noticeably subpar. Some people wildly exaggerate how bad it is, especially since most of the really bad lines have been fixed ages ago, but it's still not great by any measure. Aside from that, I'd say the story itself is decidedly above-average for a video game. Not zOMG TEH BEST but quite good nonetheless. Despite being an entirely unrealistic setting it feels grounded in-context, and it has just enough complexity to give it some appeal beyond the immediate face value. Maybe it could do with fewer flashbacks and side-stories, but at the same time those do add some extra depth and flavor to the setting in a way you wouldn't get from a purely linear single-perspective story.
>>
>>2108994
>Some people wildly exaggerate how bad it is, especially since most of the really bad lines have been fixed ages ago, but it's still not great by any measure
you can see this a lot especially around the Joel flashback parts. I cant remember what cutscene it was in particular but I could tell that the original text was clearly attempting to phrase things in several ways but was directly translated in a way where characters just kept repeating themselves.

The writing is fine. That mega faggot on RPGCodex who wrote that it's "badly written" was just doing so to keep his credentials intact on a site that notoriously hates anything anime related and dismisses all games containing anything resembling it out of hand, no matter how good the actual gameplay and content is. So the guy writing the review just dismisses all the aesthetic and storytelling elements because the gameplay is so awesome he still wants to play it and get other people on that godforsaken site to play it, so he hyper focuses on it in his review. The game is actually pretty damn good writing wise, it explores its themes and sets up its characters and world quite well.

Every single major protagonist is dealing with abandonment in some form and I felt the game did a good job differentiating in how each one handled it. And Pascal was the perfect final villain for the game, as the world had utterly abandoned him altogether and his response was to become an absolute monster that betrayed everything he stood for, which contrasted him quite nicely with the heroes who handled the same rejection in better ways. Except Albus, of course, who will one day cause Ragnarok.
>>
>>2108804
honestly anything even tangentially anime related gets religiously shat on by faggots that want to seem mature and cultured. The best example of this is how hard disco elysium gets sucked off despite having similar overall level of quality to an eastern VN.

I'm glad someone else pointed this out, although I think doesn't refer to just one person. It refers to Sharky, and Albus, and Valhalla in a metaphorical way. It's a good line, it says something about both the speaker and the target, is relevant to the game's themes, and gives nuance to the game's conflicts. One of many examples of why I think this game's writing is very underrated.

He's comparing Albus to himself; his statement applies to both of them equally.

Sharky:
>leader of the spoonists
>well respected figurehead among his kind who supports those who've been abandoned by everyone else
>was planted into the role by Edward and replaced the original Sharky
>falls to Carter who in turn takes over his mask and replaces him

Albus:
>leader of [Your Company]
>well respected Troublehooter hailed as a hero after the subjugation of White Tiger
>deliberately and almost exclusively takes on dangerous cases that accelerate his climb through the ranks in order to gain access to government files about the catastrophe from 10 years ago
>hides a cold and calculating personality beneath his nice guy mask

They couldn't have made the connection any more apparent.

It's both the neon green color + her mouth is too wide with the lipstick. It makes it look like she applied it wrong and she's the Joker or something. Blue eyes + red lipstick goes better with her color scheme, and her mouth could be drawn smaller like this to emphasize the parts of her lips that have the lipstick on.

Noticed her fringe's brown, makes me think they originally planned her to have dyed her hair blonde. No clue why they went the wig thing, it's a pretty odd design choice.
Really curious that she went through such a drastic redesign, the first draft we got of her was already fully rendered.
>>
>>2112523
I miss her already.
>>
>>2112523
It wouldn't make sense for her to dye her hair then un-dye it at home and re-dye it the next day.
They should just have the new casual outfit turn into this one but without the brown fringe. They both look good, it's the new uniformed look that's a problem.
If they don't match that's even better, it'd exaggerate how she's becoming a different person when she puts on her "armor".

It works on everybody but you don't have the particularly interesting synergies for a full board until the end of base game and the DLC. Main niceties:
>tons of Vigor and recovery for it, Heixing and Giselle love this
>Professionalism/Vocation is an absurd amount of Speed
>buffs last forever and mental debuff immunity
>powerful effects on missing which works great with reaction attacks like -AT and buff roulette, Kylie gets it for free with Reactive Matrix, Giselle and Heixing lessen the sting of missing with their reaction attacks that cost AT and even Alisa sees some benefit with Anger Strike/Forestallment
>ignores a lot of Block/Dodge with Sharp Spirit and you also ignore a large portion of Block's damage resistance anyway with Ebullient
>Vocation + Green Old Age is a potent buff to all your skills damage
>The Will Beyond Extreme Will for dealing with reaction attack spam
>one person can run the Commander's Spirit buff stuff, or Renowned Commander
>actually find the +Overcharge stuff very restrictive with the rest of the board, but 50% damage reduction in Overcharge is one of the stronger effects, Alisa can do great things with it
Here's a couple builds, these ones I think I could figure out working outside of Limit Break, and my Ray too since it just uses Vocation, but my Alisa is engineered within an inch of her life even with LB.
>>
>>2116979
Some other fun things:
>That Giselle killed the DLC2 mission with just her and one other person before my teammates even arrived, normally Vigor would be a problem for that but the board sustains her by itself
>That Heixing is great with an Anne White Mage backpack fueling his Impulse Fields and giving him more turns, the entire point is he gets his turn back off the reaction attacks which lets him spam Fixed Stance Sweeping Fire off of Re Mop-Up, very fun build
>>
>>2116979

>>
>>2118194
ESP builds are strong on nearly everybody. I'd carve out some caveats for Wind Albus outside of Limit Break, and I haven't played around with Ice Leton much. I've made strong and fun builds for everybody else.
>no Tough Spirit
Panic/Confusion are mental debuffs, right? Diligent Worker's immunity to those covers that. I find those effects to rarely be a problem even without it, situationally relevant for sure but I'm always hungry for fun synergies and I really like Bounding Stride too.
>>
>>2118200
Confusion's not classified as a mental debuff, but almost no enemies inflict it so it doesn't matter. The main reason to run Tough Spirit or mental immunity is so you don't get Surprised/Contraction'd by Mungos.

>>
>>2127767
Divegrass AKA football is something that's been going on for almost 15 years on 4chan where people make teams of AI players that compete against each other. The main competition has teams based on board culture (which /vst/ has one), but there are invitationals where people make teams about whatever they want. Some anon made a really neat Troubleshooter team which is in that webm playing against a Kingdom Hearts team.
>>
>>2127603

>>
>>2130539
>Any reason why I wouldn't like this?
It's much more story- and character-based than similar games, with lots of cutscenes and flashbacks and stuff like that. Plus it's super linear. You can always go back and replay missions as much as you want, and some missions have alternate paths, but the main narrative is 100% on-rails. The start of the game is also arguably the worst part of the game, since the story takes a while to get going, lots of mechanics don't open up until later, and you've got a tiny squad so you get lots of missions with shitty generic police units filling out your team, which just isn't much fun IMO.

If none of that is a dealbreaker for you it's definitely worth playing.

If it gets on your nerves you can always just switch difficulty down and trivially shitstomp missions until you've got the first five or six characters. I also recommend looking into the settings and switching off various notifications and confirmations in combat. Streamlines the experience a lot.

I boughted the game and I've been enjoying it so far but you all were right about it having a slow start. It seems like every time Irene is about to join the party, she just kinda leaves.
I don't mind the generic police units, it's nice to have some consistent ranged damage when most of the name units are melee or rely on abilities for range and I don't feel bad about sacrificing them. Also they look cool and it's fun to do what >>2131422 says and play like it's a tacticool swat team instead of capeshit but korean.

Midgame VHPD are such chads. Once the Suppressors promote to Rangers they get Cover Move which you'd never notice without reading their board since they lack Base Defence, but if you have them conceal against cover it works. For Human units there's a very small difference in power from levels alone. Mostly it just means you can equip more masteries, so if your build is good it doesn't matter if you're a lower level. Same thing applies to bosses and lategame enemies once even the scrubs start getting full builds.
>>
>>2140304
difficulty is inconsistant because some enemies dick down specific builds while others job hard against the same build. Essentially if an enemy feels super easy you just lucked out by playing the strategy that best counters them. This becomes more apparent in DLC2 with red sand/mungo which predate on two different playstyles so one faction is usually pretty easy while the other is super hard.
>>

Ryo did kill a lot of my guys during the port mission but I figured out pretty quickly that I just had to kite him around and use action time abilities so he couldn't do anything until the timer ran out
I'm going to take advice from >>2140441 and try changing up my builds a little bit and see if that makes any difference
>>
>>2140742
>those guys with like 127% block chance
The trick with those guys is to use knockbacks to stun them. You can push them into adjacent units if there aren't any walls nearby.
>>
>>2140742
Drones are pain in the ass early on since you don't have anything to counter them and machines designed to resist basically everything and there is so many of them. Sion with his bouncing lightning is very good here. Or any form of an AOE. Armorbreak works too, but it's better aganist more advanced late game robots.
>guys with like 127% block chance
Beyond just stun-push. Crits ignore block, IRC Irene has move that also outright ignores it.
>>
>>2140781
>Crits ignore block
That's not true, it has to first pass the block check to crit at all. You probably meant autocrits like Sen no Sen, which do ignore block.
>>
>>2140796

>>
Offensive Anne is also good against robots since they don't have Earthform. I think.
>>

Piercing Strike / Breakthrough masteries are very handy there, or GS Albus, or Irene's Front Breakthrough

I recommend greatsword albus, he can get his block really high to cuck robitch damage and he has plenty of masteries for fucking up high damage enemies. Robots also suffer super hard from destroy armor/weapon since all their stats are from items that make up their build vs masteries and great swordsman inflicts it all the time.

Giselle saw the potential in Albus but wanted him to grow on his own.
His laziness disappointed her, but she never stopped believing in his talents.
She felt betrayed when he eventually left the company after his training period.

Albus respects Giselle, but he does think of her as a bitch. He'd never admit it though.
In the first mission she appears in by attacking Albus from afar, he gains the "Rage" state after realizing her identity.
>>
>>2115982
I don't play fighting games but I think the Troubleshooter setting would work really well for a fightan / beat 'em up game. Some of the character designs would fit perfectly in a fighting game and Irene could double as a mascot for it since she's a martial artist

Is berserker worth using? It seems like it will fuck you over because it will force your melee units out of position but I wonder if there's any good synergy with it on Albus or Irene
>>
>>2146851
It's good. There's a mastery set called Lunatic Beast (Aggression + Roar of Victory + Berserker + Indomitable Will) which causes it to reduce your AT when Berserker activates and increases the distance. A lot of melee units love that.
Later there's a mastery called Overwhelm which makes you automatically attack an adjacent enemy when you start your turn, which Berserker is really good at putting you in position for.

I don't think the writing is bad and the characters themselves are pretty good, but it's how the story is presented that could use some work. There are a bunch of no-context VN segments before/after each mission that's supposed to show the broader plot but mean nothing to anyone who hasn't been keeping track of it all. It takes a while for characters like Marco, Leton, Carter, and Sion's family to actually become relevant to the plot (and it's told through those VN scenes) despite being introduced early on. And some important bits of information/background just sorta seem to come out of nowhere, like Kyle being a mafia princess or Giselle's existence and her background with Albus. The ESL translation doesn't do any favors for the presentation either.

It kind of makes sense that Ice ESP is devastating to a warm-blooded mammal species mostly made up of water. I'm sure if rocks could use ESP they'd love ice. It's a typical storytelling element in games with guns. People can get shot 20 times and walk it off but if someone gets shot once in a cutscene they'll dramatically die on the spot, or at least get sent to the hospital on the verge of death.
>>
>>2148976
The jackets in the game's universe are bulletproof and shock absorbent according to flavour text. That probably evens the playing field a lot before even getting into ESP.
>>
>>2149418
>People can get shot 20 times and walk it off but if someone gets shot once in a cutscene they'll dramatically die on the spot, or at least get sent to the hospital on the verge of death.
Does this actually happen in Troubleshooter though? It seems like the only people we see getting downed with single bullets are the civilians who get killed by gang members but they obviously wouldn't have the equipment or training to survive that. There are several times when the game lets the player play out "unwinnable" fight sequences when they need a scripted death or near-death for the plot which is actually pretty cool compared to most games just having people die from getting shot once in a cutscene.

How does beast taming work?
If I tame an epic/elite beast, does it keep it's elite status?
Do the individual masteries I can choose from upon taming a beast dependent on the type of beast or are they random? Like lets say I wanted a Tima with Succeeded Rage, is that possible and would I have to keep taming Timas until I get one?
>>
>>2150939
>How does beast taming work?
You target a beast with the tame command and there's an amount of AT you have to wait for the taming to complete, which depends on the current HP of the beast and the difference in level between it and Giselle (it's faster if Giselle is higher, slower if she isn't). If the beast takes any damage from any reason it breaks the tame and you either have to wait for the taunt to wear off (pain), reload a checkpoint, or kill it and just go for another one.
Once successful it joins your team permanently and Giselle can summon it to any map as long as the environmental conditions don't fuck it up (for example Yashas are banned on rain maps)
>If I tame an epic/elite beast, does it keep it's elite status?
Elites mostly lose their status, but epics and legendaries keep theirs. They don't get to keep the stat bonuses from them, but there are a bunch of beast masteries that refer to higher/lower ranks.
>Do the individual masteries I can choose from upon taming a beast dependent on the type of beast or are they random?
Both. There's a pool that each species can draw from, and you pick from those rolls when taming/evolving. It's not as bad as it sounds, because for a temporary small drop in loyalty you can retrain the beast and replace its Instinct and Training masteries with any from the full list that the beast has access to. Genetics masteries are more permanent, but in the postgame for DLC2 there's a way to change those too.

The AI VHPD annoyed me to no end in the defense missions when they would constantly shuffle around and expose themselves to get killed instead of just staying behind cover and using the still stance hit bonus so I would only like it if the non-playable teammate didn't have AI that would work against you. But like the other anon said, there doesn't seem like there's much to a point to it especially if it takes up a team member slot.

The formula in that picture is wrong, I don't know if that's an old version of the help menu or what, but this is the AT code from the game (addtime is cast delay).
Essentially the way to think about it is like this:
>base AT is 18
>at 100 speed you add 36 to it (for 54 AT turns) which you can think of as the baseline for your headmaffs
>at 200 speed you add 18 to it (for 36 AT turns), double speed = half number added
>at 50 speed you add 72 to it (for 90 AT turns), half speed = double number added
No matter what there's a lower limit of 36AT from speed and cast delay (if there was a negative cast delay), but masteries that trigger at turn end like Best Condition can get around that. There's also an upper limit of 360 during your turn, which you can see if you Strong Slowdown white clown masks
>>
>>2155441
>I don't know if that's an old version of the help menu
it's the current version of the help menu lol
I think it's just another happenstance of the poor translation this game got though, whoever did the translation probably didn't understand the maths behind it themselves or couldn't properly communicate it in English.

I'll start theorycrafting and posting builds once I unlock all masteries and discover all sets
>>
>>2154309
>>2155441
>>2155449
Those formulas are the exact same thing mathematically. Just one had the brackets worked out and the other doesn't. The outcome is the same either way. I don't know why they wrote it two different ways, but it's not Dandy who doesn't understand maths here.

How does the ranged/ESP damage from battlemage Pikachu compare to black mage Pikachu?
I've been running him as a black mage but the extra survivability from battlemage is looking appealing for these harder missions. He already does an absurd amount of damage and I haven't actually been using much of the black mage class masteries but rather just lightning, elementalist, and common masteries on him. I don't think I'm going to use many of the battlemage class masteries on him too if I do switch since he's too good at ranged/area damage. I guess I'm just asking if the two extra defense slots are worth giving up the attack and ability slot.
>>
>>2156065
battlemage is less of a
>delete this now
and more of a
>i am invincible!
class, but still plenty capable of ohko most enemies with fat stacks of CMP and/or Flash
>>
>>2156065
If I had to pick between them I'd say Battle Mage is probably better, Black Mage's offense is overkill for most stuff, Battle Mage has enough to kill most things and it can also be very tanky even before considering the man has Furious Lightning Gale.
>>
>>2156174 (me)
Though Black Mage can be pretty tanky as well, it's just not to the same extent. Bianca has Wind masteries making her have much more damage reduction than Sion is capable of getting and she'll still eat shit in a few hits pretty often. Meanwhile Battle Mage just doesn't fucking die.
>>
>>2156065
I'd say Battlemage's ranged damage is mediocre by Sion standards but it's still comparable to Heixing or a juiced up Ray. Battlemage can use Fighter masteries so it does really well in melee range though, especially with his kick attacks.

It seems like there could be some fun synergy between Iron Wall + Ranger Heixing (with Cover Move) + bonding.
Especially since some maps are clearly designed to have areas without cover to screw you over. So being able to set up cover anywhere to take full advantage of Cover Move seems like it could be pretty cheesy.
Who should I turn into an iron wall gimp slave though? I'm thinking Leton since he's already pretty tanky and doesn't have anything like Lone Hero to justify not keeping him around other team members.
>>
>>2159258
You're thinking along the right track, but Battlemages have Magic Shield which is a toggle version of Iron Wall that still lets you move and attack so you don't have to sacrifice a unit to have mobile cover. Martial Artist Leton has a secret ice version as well (Ice Castle + Ice Shield + Iron Wall + Endless Training) that functions similarly.

The visual of magic armor and iron wall is very amusing to me. It makes sense for the VHPD defenders since they have shields, but it's silly to think of someone "taking cover" behind another person that doesn't have any real protective equipment.
Especially if said person is a small woman, you expect me to believe Irene can be considered a "full cover landmark" for Heixing when she's like half his size?

This might be useful to people here. I was digging in the code to find out whether Nightstalker is really as useless as it sounds, and it turns out the description is just exceptionally incorrect.
What it says:
>The following effects take place if it is Evening, Night or Dark Indoor
>If you attack an enemy who is in Hide status when you're in Hide status, the damage you inflict is increased by 100%
What it actually means:
>If you attack an enemy while you're in Hide status at night, your damage is increased by 100%
It's way better than it sounds even if the damage is still pretty conditional.

No reason not to, there's nothing to spend money on besides crafting materials once you get some decent gear from bosses.

If you've been disassembling weapons and stuff you can also extract it from primal flames. Same goes for all the other psi stone related materials. You need to unlock the ability to craft the higher ones by crafting the lower ones before it'll let you disassemble higher tiers of them, but that's not a problem once you know you need to do it.

>Veteran is unnecessary because Warming Up gives physical immunity and Delicate Dance allows his cooldown to recover quickly enough to keep it up all the time

>Also, what HER element will be.
I've looked through every bit of concept art and updates I could find and there's nothing that definitively shows what SP she could have. But I think she's going to be a spirit user and not an ESP user.
While the class requirements for Archer can't be found in Abandoned Children, we can assume that it probably doesn't have an ESP requirement since one of its advanced classes is Hunter and we can see that doesn't have an ESP requirement.
(Having beast taming unlocked early on in BC would be nice.)

She's likely not a wind user since Bianca's uncle is going to be playable, and he's already confirmed to be a mage, and is probably a wind user himself since ESP seems to be genetic. Nor does her naming and visual motif doesn't fit with the previous wind users. And having a wind ESP user as the first character again would be kinda boring.
Hannah seems to be a fire user judging by hair color (red) some of her art which have embers in them, so despite being an Irene fangirl she's likely not fire. I don't think Dandy would have duplicate ESP elements in the first several party members.
I couldn't really find anything linking her to water, earth, or lightning, also I don't think a ranged weapon user would be an earth ESP user.
Judging by color I would say she's could be an ice user but the spirit users of AC were also white/sliver. Hexing and Alisa had white hair, Giselle had silver eyes.
Her other advanced class is Bard which if it's a "performance" class like clown/dancer/singer/superstar then that means she is a bangle user and thus ESPer, but there's no information on what Bard is so that's probably not the case. I don't think Dandy is going to do multiple weapon types, at least not for the starting party member and there's no art of her using a bangle.

If she turns out to be a wind user when the early access (hopefully) comes out next year you can screencap this post and laugh at me for typing all this out.

Bard doesn't have an ESP requirement in Abandoned Children's code, so Spirit is still in the running. I also think she might be Spirit now that I'm thinking about it more, because I vaguely remember Dandylion saying something like "There's a reason why she looks so similar to Alisa".

I think that's the case for every character (except Ryo for obvious reasons).
They gotta keep some things secret for later reveal trailer.
I'm pretty sure that she's going to be Spirit SP since "elemental hunter" sounds too unusual and would probably not work well in combination with every beast type. (A fire SP hunter and an Ice SP beast would basically negate each other's debuffs afaik).

if they wanted to make it consistent with the game logic that's already there, the bonding reduction would only apply when the other girl characters are wearing bikinis (and for the guys in their swim trunks). make it a tradeoff between having sexy outfits and increasing bonding progress with the main hero
as for irene herself, she could just get a one-piece swimsuit or i guess even a wetsuit if she's that autistic

I'm going to forgive Dandy for the atrocious design of Lumi in her uniform since they've consistently delivered top-tier character designs throughout AC and the development of BC. This is the first time they've doubled down on a "what the fuck is that" design, they even got rid of the weird skull face paint Leton used to have from his original design in 2016. And if they haven't already drawn a bunch of CG with that design then it wouldn't be too late for them to change it.
Her casual outfit is still really good and that's probably what we'll be seeing the most once she joins the party, especially since the Black Mountain public security team are supposed to be a villain faction.

And I don't think BC is going to be a bad game at all, at least visually it's going to be a straight upgrade from the sneak peeks at the enemy models new Giselle model, plus they've shown better animations. It would be fine if they ported most gameplay systems straight from AC with minimal changes, I just hope they don't listen to all the retards on Steam forums suggesting that the game should just be a 1:1 Xcom clone.

I wanna try making a blockmaxx Albus build with intent of maximizing the AT reduction from weapon blocking and getting max stacks from opportunist as fast as possible.
The thing is, Albus has high base dodge and a lot of his higher-tier equipable items have dodge in their base stats. On top of that, wind veil increases his dodge against melee attacks even if the other effects it gives would be worth it. And all this is an issue because each attack he dodges is an attack he can't block. So it's a conundrum to minimize dodge and maximize block.
Then there's the issue of getting 100% block, which can either be done through just stacking block masteries and items, or using final resistance and keeping him at low health. Both of these have their upsides and downsides. It would probably be easier to build around final resistance but trying to keep him below 1/3 HP at all times without also being too vulnerable would be annoying.
And this entire build is kinda dumb anyways since most Albus builds are already pretty fast and/or have plenty of AT reduction so making an entire build around weapon blocking is a bit pointless. I just think it would be fun to throw Albus in the middle of a bunch of enemies and have him get a bunch of turns from tanking their attacks.
>>

I lost that save. But i did something similar with Great Swordsman, on my first playthrough. It functioned really well, right up until second dlc.

Is there any reason to ever use the standard classes instead of the advanced ones?
>>
>>2163504
No, but it's worth getting them to level 16 for their mastery unlocks.
Maybe if the basic class has a really good inherent mastery it could be worth using over an advanced one, but it would have to be good enough to make up for the loss in mastery and ability slots.
>>
Magic Knight Albus would be so much better if he had a melee attack that did wind damage and had good ESP scaling.

There's a mastery called Call of Wind from raising a wind draki that lets you convert non-wind attacks into wind attacks. But it's not really an issue for most MK builds because the class mastery is so kickass for hybrid builds.

I've actually done a memebuild like that before to make kind of a pseudo Barbarian. It uses Lunatic Beast for 15 AT reduction when hit, Sword of Protection for 30 AT on block and Distorted Heart for 10 AT when copying an enemy's buff (which happens pretty much all the time in the lategame)
As you identified, getting to 33% HP without dying is kind of challenging. You could put Impulse Fields in to make it a lot more likely to safely get that low if you didn't bother with Distorted Heart and have 1 Defence slot to spare for something else. Second Heart maybe, which revives at 33% and guarantees that you come back in Final Resistance HP.
The build is very viable and it kicks ass in 58V which a lot of people consider to be a very annoying map.

I did the same sort of thing on my playthrough.
As others said eventually enemy hit gets high enough that you don't have to worry about dodging.
You want the Eluote which drops from Ralph. You can get it as early as level 18 and keep it for the entire game. Gives 15% block + 1% per swordsman/great swordsman mastery, which adds up to a lot by the end.

AT reduction through blocking is great overall, because the endgame of AT reduction is off-turn AT reduction. Minimum AT at the end of your turn caps out at 36, but AT reduction that happens off the unit's turn can go all the way down to zero. In other words, Albus can end his turn with 36 and block a bunch of shit to take his turn again. Irene can do the same thing especially with Hero.

I achieved one of my longstanding goals of killing Silver when first running this map in a playthrough
Party is level 21, 21, 20 and 17
It was actually a lot easier than I thought it would be. Silver hurts like fuck and has tons of HP and armour/resistance, but his accuracy is pretty mediocre - around 72% before Still Stance.
Most of his HP was removed by Albus using his wind ESP as a Magic Knight, which did around 300 HP per turn and another 250ish from Forestallment when I triggered Silver's berserker in range of that. Irene does pretty good damage too (around 400 per hit of her fire wheel carriage), because of fire SP boosting her damage, and my one has Fire Bolt for an extra 100 flat whenever she whacked him. The cops mostly just helped with suppression and an initial blind.
The part I thought would be scariest was when Silver's Second Heart activated because there's no way to keep him blind through that, but actually it was trivial because 33% HP is low enough that his AI prioritised trying to run away and heal rather than fight, so he didn't actually attack anyone. If he had, I hoped sitting in the bushes would be good enough to keep his accuracy at a reasonable level.
I got Massiveness for my trouble, but he did drop 16 monster fangs too which is kind of nice.
>>
>>2163823
>but actually it was trivial because 33% HP is low enough that his AI prioritised trying to run away and heal rather than fight
this is interesting considering he should have predator so going for a kill should give him a big heal, though i can see why dandy didn't code a check in the ai for it try to take advantage of something like that when an enemy needs to heal.
and fire bolt is extremely strong early/mid game when 50/100/200 damage is significant, i get why people say it's bad late game but early game irene is a beast with fire bolt

also when trying to get webms to fit under the 4mb file size limit it's probably better to reduce the framerate before nuking the resolution/compression

After playing some more I realized I also want a water ranger. Imagine how fast one could gain water SP with cover move on certain maps, plus it would be absolute poison debuff hell on enemies. And the dodge/smoke synergies. It's perfect. Dandy will probably never give us one just because of how perfect it would be.

Even though it's not allowed, a fire witch would be incredibly fun as well just for the phoenix + vindictive soul combo. Other witches can use second/third heart obviously but those aren't as good as phoenix's mastery sets. Maybe there's a class yet to be revealed that can use witch masteries and fire SP for this combo.

expanding on this a little - actually splitting up the item set to slot in the perfect scale seems to work pretty well and allows you to be more liberal with your board. In most endgame violent cases you won't even get to the final resistance threshold because of shenanigans like webmrelated
>>
If there's one gripe I have with this game, it's that Dandylion removed the infinite duration of Petrify on this Negoori in the first Draki map.
The way it works now, he'll wake up after a few turns of AT and essentially alert every Draki on the map, turning a nice, tactical violent case into a brutal slaughter for survival. Makes it harder to explore and reach the hidden entrance into the second violent case as well because all of the enemies swarm towards your party at once.
>>
why are unhatched draki eggs targeted by overwatch wtf

What are the best orange items (or purple items with special effects) that I should be looking out for?
Seems like a lot of orange items don't actually have any cool bonus effects but just have a lot more stats, which makes them useless if they're a low level.

>>2164676
>turning a nice, tactical violent case into a brutal slaughter for survival
I feel like this was the intention behind both draki maps given the sheer amount of enemies. Same with most other violent cases. You're supposed to just hunker down in a defensible spot and slaughter the horde of enemies that come after your team instead of clearing out each area one by one. Hence the "violent".

Pretty much anything 45+ is going to be good for a very long time and I still see people deliberately using items from that tier even in minmaxed parties.
Lower levelled items that are still worth considering (most aren't worth farming unless you get spoonfed them or have a particular memebuild in mind):
>Eluote (Ralph's sword, used in defensive Albus memebuilds)
>Blood-red Ogre Wrist Guard (Chang's wrist guard, gives bleed immunity, very useful but gets outclassed by Demolisher wristguards)
>Professional Hunter's boots (Jeff's boots, field effect immunity is great for Giselle and Sweeper Heixing)
>Pink Horn (Pink Horn's umbrella/sword, don't bother farming it if you're 40+ because it falls off at your level range, but it's an incredible weapon for Magic Knights until you can get a Pulse Blade of Darkness from Yuranxiang)
>Breaking Sword (Ryo's sword from the docks story mission, it's the equivalent of Pink Horn but for Great Swordsman and lasts a bit longer before it falls off)
>Cleaning Agent's Boots (Felix's boots, inherent +2 move distance, can roll up to +3)
>Bonaparte Bracelet LE (Brad's bracelet, inherent +10 speed)
>Pulse Blade of Darkness (Yuranxiang's sword, inherent +485 ESP, incredible for Magic Knights even much higher than its level suggests)
Pretty much every unique item in 46V is worth a damn, but special mention goes to Hellfire's bangle which removes enemy buffs on crit, and his Jacket too which provides Tough Spirit's effects on an armour piece (VERY useful if you don't want to run Tough Spirit on a bunch of people's endgame builds). His bangle has fire bonuses but I've seen people run it on pretty much anyone who can use bangles because its effect is just so good.

>>
>>2166328
I find black mage fun to play but frustrating to build because most of its (and elementalist) masteries are just extra damage scaling or more vigor. Sion can easily nuke groups of enemies without most of those masteries and vigor becomes a non-issue past a certain point in the game. So most of it is just screwing around with common, human, and SP masteries trying to find some way to make up for the other shortcomings the class has (like getting one-shot by everything).
Bianca benefits more from all the raw damage a black mage can get since wind SP doesn't have access to shit like flash stacks but almost all her abilities are single target, single strike anyways so she just feels better as a witch.
>>
>>2166449
I agree with Black Mage being boring and one-dimensional, but there's decent logic behind pretty much all of its decisions.
>Sion can easily nuke groups of enemies without most of those masteries
Black Mage is built around using ESP masteries, so most of its sets are designed at a power level where you only need to take a couple of them to get a lot out of the class.
>and vigor becomes a non-issue past a certain point in the game
The reason it gets so much vigor is so you can turn it into base ESP with Mage

There's actually special dialogue with several of the NPCs and at the start of quest missions if you don't go to Shooter Street until you get all members in your party, at least for base game characters. I don't think it applies to DLC characters since all the quests are base game (I think). The dialogue itself probably isn't anything special other than some additional characterization but it's interesting that Dandylion added it. Like it's neat that Giselle has dialogue at the start of the Yasha hunting missions even if most people are going to be doing those missions long before they get Giselle.
So putting off the quests and going through mission repetition hell could be worth it if you want to see those little easter eggs.
>>

Yeah, it's especially worth putting off for the dialogue if you're either someone who thinks Ray is boring, or you're a huge Rayfag who wants to see her at her best. Those cutscenes have Ray at her most competent because she's really fucking smart and intimately familiar with smuggling, so unlike the entire rest of the game she's in her element. She shows up pretty much everyone on Shooter Street with her knowledge and has a bunch of walls of text that you completely miss if you do the quests as they become available.

The Shooter Street merchants are so sweet. I was actually quite sad when they faded out of the game and you didn't even receive new quests in the dlcs.

For a long time their quests stopped even earlier. All the ones post Negoori were added shortly before Crimson Crow.

Ryo's theme was shadowdropped on youtube today.

Very fond of the vocals, personally.

>>2167524
That's cool as fuck. It's my favourite track yet by far.

Same. I have no idea where they're going with Ryo's character arc, but his theme sounds fitting for his new badass design.

>>
>>2167524
It's a nice epic battle track but at the same time feels generic, like it could've been made for anyone. I don't see what's "Ryo" about this. Brings to mind some crazy awesome music you'll hear in some doujin game and it turns out it was royalty-free somehow.
The Lumi song was always chaotic and switching between instruments which I thought was fitting.
>>
>>2167556
My interpretation is that it sounds very determined, like this is a dude who's gone so far off the deep end to save his brother that there's nothing to stop him. The choir makes me think of how Nine Dragons is huge: This guy's a representative of a big, powerful tradition-steeped organisation. It's also very modern Japanese-sounding rather than what people typically think of as Japanese.
>>
>>2167556
>>2167566
It sounds like Ryo's way of the sword - very straight forward. I like it.
>>
None of the playable designs in BC are doing it for me. They feel considerably more safe, unremarkable and samey, other than having an older bearded dude.
Which is a shame considering I already miss experiencing AC for the first time.
>>
It's weird to me how black timas don't have an SP type when the other dark/black beasts have spirit. Design oversight by Dandy or do you really have to evolve your basic timas into an elemental version if you want SP?
>>
>>2167680
It's because they evolve into beasts with different ESP types. Draki eggs are the same.
>>
>>2167680
If you're specifically looking for a spirit Tima, one of the White Tiger Timas has it

Ari is really the only one I'm looking forwards too since she uses bows which are a completely different weapon type from anything we've seen in AC, plus she's probably going to be able to tame beasts and they're adding a lot more monsters in BC so it would be fun to see what kinda builds can be done with them. And she's an Irene fangirl which is cute. But yeah I agree, none of the BC designs are as visually interesting or unique as characters like Irene, Heixing, Ray, Kylie, or Leton. I was hoping for more completely different class and SP combinations.

Speaking of Kylie, I have a theory that she might be returning as a playable character in BC and Dandylion wants to keep that a secret. Since Ryo is a playable character she's definitely going to make an appearance in the game. And Heixing has unfinished business with Carter and needs to return to the Fortress of Suffering as some point so he'll need to pass through the area the game takes place in. So she'll probably tag along with one of those two. But what really sells me on her returning is the fact that none of the revealed playable characters for BC seem like they're engineers so they can't build drones/robots and I doubt Dandy is going to scrap the entire drone/robot system even if not a lot of people used in in AC, and being outside Valhalla means there's no laws against building bicrons so the system could be expanded even further. She also has a pretty unique weapon type that no other character would use so it's again another reason to bring her back.

>>2167702
The inconsistency just bugs me. I feel like it would make more sense if ordinary timas could evolve into black spirit timas and the three elemental types, but I guess Dandy wanted all mons to have three tiers of evolution.

>>2167749
I do know about White Cloud but I think for the build I'm planning I'll just stick with an ice tima for now.
>>
>>2167524
sure is final fantasy
>>
>>2167671
I don't find the designs all that stellar in AC either. The character writing is strong and the mechanics give them their own identity. So I'm not too worried.
>>
>>2167550
Yeah, that's one place my mind went. The first was Quattro, though.
>>
>>2166449
The damage is overkill but what really sets the class apart is the easy access to minimum AT delay. You can take Magical Accelerator and Archmage Staff and then your build is pretty open to do whatever, that alone is good damage too.

I was looking through the xml files and there's one called Troublebook.xml that contains the in-universe month and year that each story mission takes place on.
Summarised
>1/803 - 1 map (Firefly Park tutorial)
>4/803 - 2 maps (Silverlining and Ramji Plaza)
>5/803 - 3 maps (Pugo Street through Outskirt Road 113)
>6/803 - 2 maps (Crow Bill Station and Jigsaw)
>7/803 - 3 maps (Magenta Backstreet through Marco's tussle with Don in Silverlining)
>8/803 - 5 maps (Pugo Backstreet through Fish in Troubled Waters)
>9/803 - 5 maps (spoonist cabin through Hansol Street)
>10/803 - 6 maps (Iron Forest resource area through Dust Wind Toll Gate)
>11/803 - 4 maps (Scent of the Past through Gray Cemetary)
>12/803 - 2 maps (Kylie's snowy rescue and Dust Wind Rest Area)
>1/804 - 2 maps (Silver Cloud Market Street and the Heixing + Kylie duo map)
>2/804 - 3 maps (the snowy Foo map through Pugo Street with Yuranxiang's first appearance)
>3/804 - 8 maps (Spoonist underground base through "For You")
>4/804 - 4 maps (final vanilla map through Irene's troubleshooter test)
>5/804 - 7 maps (the rest of DLC1 and Misty's first map)
>6/804 - 7 maps (the rest of DLC2)
The entire game takes place over a year and a half. Most chapters have a couple months worth of missions in them, but chapters rarely end with the first or last mission of a month (for example, the last 3 maps of Chapter 3 and first 3 maps of Chapter 4 are all November 803 maps)

Seems like several of the songs for Banished Children have vocals. Does anyone know if there are actual lyrics or if it's just vocalizations? I don't know a lick of Korean so I wouldn't know myself, or maybe they are in English and I'm just too deaf to understand them.

so Heixing's been out of the fortress for more than a year now, hmm
are you finding all this info through the official modding tool or troubletool?
>>
>>2169101
The official modding tool comes with an extractor (PLDataPacker.exe, ran through UnpackingCoreData.bat) that dumps all the scripts/xml/UI files into a folder so people can mod them. That's how I got access to all that stuff.

Maybe they planned to implement a calendar mechanic but discarded the idea. It works better if the dates are just implied in my opinion.

>>2169025
The new OST sounds so pretty. I wonder if we'll actually get to hear most of these tracks during missions. Abandoned Children had a huge OST, but most of its tracks were reserved for storytelling and cutscenes.
>>

I wish dandy included some tool for extracting, editing, and inserting your own character models. I spent several weekends trying to figure out how get the models and edit them in blender and I just kept getting filtered by OGRE's model system. Apparently every tool and plugin to make it easier is broken or out of date.

It seemed like to me that Dandy wanted to make Anne younger but realized how weird it would be for like an 11 year old to work for a troubleshooter company, or maybe they don't know how 14/15 year olds actually look and act.

Late-but-not-endgame builds are so ugly. I don't have any of the Basic masteries of Keyboard Warrior and I wouldn't have the training points to use them anyway. so the things I do for property limit are ugleh.

There's only a couple. Most of them are generic melee damage. I think Clean Hit and Bruise are the only ones that are blunt-only. Her ESP doesn't get any benefit from Rend besides the reduced dodge/block though.
