>>2128017>>2130414So let's brainstorm some ideas. What countries have unique iconic military units that didn't make it to a game? What nation unique nation civilizational boosts are being slept on?

>>2130414the pyramids were built with wage labor, thought certainly there were periods of priest-controlled socialism that essentially enslaved everyone (cf brick quotas without straw)
>>2130423I'm convinced that one of america's strongest features has always been their brain drain. They should be a science stealing civ. Spanish unification never seems to be a thing in civ games as a power, when it's one of the main things that led to their golden age. They're always the "mean colonial power" and/or religious power, which are both also true. But the colonial holdings were a poison pill for spain also which ended their golden age more than it caused it.

>>2130423Scots as a pikes & castles civ instead of a shock infantry civ.
>>2130423I legitimately think Rome needs a bonus for LOSING.All through the empire, one of its main strengths was adapting, mostly it was through commerce, but there are situations where Rome got beaten hard and yet it had the robust system and social organization to adapt to that and sort of integrate whatever was the winning strategy into their army. The biggest example was getting their navy wrecked by Carthage and fixing all the issues that led to that.
>>2130881Pretty cool idea. very punic war themed. One point against it is that it would mostly be remembered for an annoying AI civ. People generally want to play Rome, and generally prefer win-more abilities over comeback abilities.Like if it's a unit loss ability like all units gain some xp when you lose one, it becomes a horde civ that sends endless waves. If it's a powerful bonus when losing cities, they would aggressively settle in attwmpt to lose one.Lose bonuses often leads to weird strategic choices that feel gamey.
>>2130881>>2130941Losing should in general decrease the decadence meter and winning/develop increase it.
>>2131536>>2130941when you fight an enemy, regardless of win or loss, you should gain a slowly increasing military bonus against that specific factionwipe out Rome quick and decisively, they'll never get a chance to reorganisetake a long time, they'll snowball and steamroll yeah it's probably shitty late-game balance, but if Rome has been allowed to grow into a massive empire then it SHOULD dominate

>>2130423When you start a war as Germany, you lose
>>2130423US faction has a 95% military unit offence debuff against any faction less than 10% its size
>>2130423"Western Roman Empire"Starts with multiple settlements, but begins with a large military debuff that must be slowly removed leaving it vulnerable to invasion until it reorganises
>>2128017>Germany is industrious>1933 never happenedI'm just happy that the world collectively forgave us and that people still think we're hard-working (lol).
>>2130881They won most of their wars during the republican years because they simply never accepted any peace terms. Because the senator suggesting that would get kicked out in the next elections, while playing on patriotism and arguing to keep the war going won votes.
>>2130423Rome as a plunder and tribute focused economy
>>2131652you have no idea how lazy most of the world is
Wallachia gets a unique title improvement called “forest of the impaled” that slows movement and causes attrition to any units moving through it. Raises order to adjacent cities. Also gets order of the dragon knights with bonus to combat against units from different faiths.
Confederate States of America get:Jackson’s Foot Cavalry - riflemen infantry with bonus to movement in all terrain typesForrest’s Raiders - cavalry unit with reduced combat power but ignores enemy ZOCs and can choose to disengage when attacked
>>2128017>strategy game classics>Poland>winged hussarsI cannot name a single pre-2010 video game with winged hussars. They might exist as some obscure Polish local market game, but Poland has been showing up in only recent games really.Actually, I lie, I just remembered Cossacks but that's pretty firmly in obscure local market niche that only really got rediscovered much later on.

>>2133426empire total waraoe2 by default had winged hussars as hussar unit for everyone
>>2128017England has the strongest boatsNetherlands has good trade bonusesScandis have a raiding bonus
>>2133452I was under the impression Empire was set later chronologically and it seems I was right, just it had winged hussars around like a hundred years after they were relevant at all.AoE2 is cheating though, they weren't Polish and technically speaking they'd be much more similar to Hungarian hussars who also apparently might have had wings. Fits especially well since they were light cavalry and so is hussar in AoE2, while for Poles they were heavy cavalry.
