This has the same problem as all simple, non-complex multiplayer strategy games with real Human diplomacy. The average Gamer is simply either not competent enough, competitive enough or rational enough to adopt a mindset necessary to make this exciting. People prefer to ally with the Big Blob, who already has a plurality of the territory, instead of breaking the alliance and attacking him together with all others. Not enough people join the coalition. And the Big Blob can even afford to "punish" his attackers too, so not even they play optimally. In fact instead of support the punished attacker often gets eaten up by his neighbors.

All this make me think of how completely different the game would be, if I played against clones of myself, who would all play rationally and would stop a Big Blob from emerging, but they also would stop attacking and be willing to ally again, if he has been reduced in size enough, instead of continuing to "punish" him.

Diplomacy doesn't have this problem. Different culture and player base than .io browser games I guess.

its because you don't have knowledge of who other people are allied to, its a prisoners dilemma problem everyone just assumes that people are allied with the big guy. Territorial is a lot better about avoiding this because you cant build tall and killing the blob is necessary or else the game is over

Feature creep will be the downfall of this game.

I do want to recreate one of those games myself when I'm a little more free, if anyone on here has ideas for gameplay features to make this sort of game deeper and more fun feel free to let me nig said idea
>>
>Mid game phase devolves into mexican standoff when you pounce on someone getting bogged down in an offensive
>Nuke phase feels like shit with no course except to nuke faster
im doing something wrong but

Not really. The changes over past two months completely fucked the game and it's back to where it was with the first ever public build
>>
territoria.io is just more fun, I don't have to wait half an hour to find a match I want to be in and team play is actually possible to coordinate

This is actually fun, thanks for introducing it to me
