It had a bad early access on Epic and a lot of people took that personally and proceeded to bury any real discussion in complaining about things that have been removed or patched out.

It's in a much better state now in terms of balance and content than probably any point previously.

Unfortunately the latest scenario added a lot of bugs.

I think it did need a sequel honestly.
Invest some of that money they made into a game that doesn't do shit like copy/paste each boss 3 times. The same formula with less repetition could have been good.
Unfortunately for everyone, the game they made was not a sequel.

Why are they even wasting their time making updates for this game, just cut your loses on focus on something else? I can't really think of that many games that flopped and later managed to have a huge resurgence of players years later due to updates even if the game is better on launch. At the end of the day dd2 is just a bad roguelite, there's nothing much to it.

it has many mechanics which do not work or retarded or superficial and exist for no reason
its literally a dd game where stress doesnt matter once you get relationships rolling and relationshilps are one of those shit mechanics which shouldnt even fucking exist
class balance is a complete wack
lots of bullshit which still kills you straight up cos of bad luck
in general its very tedious and unrewarding experience

Stress was reworked for the worse and relationships should have been weaker and work together virtues and afflictions.

But the biggest issue is that it is neither a dungeon crawler or roguelite. They should have had kingdoms from the start with far more regions and factions. It is kinda sad that the cultists are so weak when compared to DD cultists, it feels like they had no direction to push the genre.

game has meta of keeping everyone on low hp just 1 hp from dying cos it doesnt matter unless you are loaded with healing items which are op so nothing feels dangerous since theres virtually no difference with cultists hitting you with nuke for 999999 damage and some shitty spider hitting you for 1damage, actually since spider leaves poison hes more dangerous cos he has chance to kill you right after
btw, cultists fights are pure slog cos they had regen out of the ass, I would rather them to have some sort of ability to res dead or call new cultists, fights with them always feel completely pre-determined when you always target backside first. its problem in general but for cultists its just atrocious.

Man it's incredible how much of a visual downgrade DD2 is over the original
Sure it's more detailed and "realistic" but it lost almost all the style.
I don't want to dismiss the sequel because I think DD has horrible pacing and it's a slog to actual finish so maybe they made the gameplay better but I'm not in a rush to try it out just because it looks so soulless.

They kept complaining about how speed was bad for enemies and instead of making more elite versions of enemies, they just nerfed them. The 1hp thing is because they took the massive negatives of death`s door and heart attack. If you can get to the final boss you will win, it doesn matter if you get 10 meltdowns in a row. Also resolute healing, removing stress and giving bonus relationships is just cringe.

nigger, I recenly played d1 after dd2 when they released kingdoms. I literally go to the courtyards in dd1 and just blow whole fucking section right to the boss cos I have good trinket and planned ahead, oneshotting most trash fights due to ability/weapon upgrades. it feels good.
dd2 is a pure shit in comparison. you can never overwhelm game cos of this roguelike shit where you dont get powerful combinations of trinkets because you cannot get them reliably, its rng if you have good tinkets or dont.

tbf that was also the original. Once you started meta-building teams, the game basically lost all ability for RNG to fuck you over and that's why the devs kept nuking every cheese strat we came up with

dd2 stress is extremely opressive at the start where you need stress healer but once you get relationships it stops existing enrierly. extremely bad implementaton.
