Has anyone tested this modification? (pic related) How fun are the other mods for this game? also Civ 3 thread as whole
Expansion mod 1.6 is the best one if you just want a more in-depth historical experience. Adds about 4x more content. I tweaked the additional governments a bit to try and balance them better/make them all viable for different situations. The only thing about it is there is an incorrect reference for the “Churchill” tank unit in the text files, so you will have to correct it otherwise the game will crash when the AI attempts to build it. It doesn’t appear anyone is still updating or working on the mod but other than that one typo it’s a complete experience and is the only way I play the game anymore. Highly highly recommend. If anyone was familiar with RAR/DYP this is essentially the completed version of those.
>>2132898Which text file
>>2132926Not in front of my computer right now. I’ll see if I can find it when I get home. There are specific files for each unit and iirc the folder is named incorrectly or a couple of lines inside the text file have the wrong reference. If you ever get the error it will tell you which file, but says it’s “missing”. So as long as you’re saving regularly in the late industrial era it shouldn’t be a huge waste of time bumbling into it on your own.I’ll post a screen shot later.
>>2132926Okay so once installed the pathway is going to be Program Files(x86) > GOG Galaxy > Games > Civ 3 Complete > Scenarios > Expansion Mod > Art > Units (Obivously if you've installed with steam or disc it'll be a bit different)This is where my memory fails me a bit. I don't quite remember if the folder here wasn't named correctly but I think that's what the issue was. Now that I'm running through it again I think so because I remember thinking that if a file actually were missing like the error suggests, there would be no real way to solve the error. So here I would just search "churchill", and if a folder doesn't come up in the search results then you need to find the right one a rename it. You should have some files pop up that are named things like "churchillattack" "churchilldeath" etc, as well as an ini. You should be able to use those to figure out which folder got misnamed. I'm pretty sure its one of the other folders for a similar tank unit (so being a tank autist is an advantage). If you can't find by searching you should also be able to just skim the list of unit folders. Each folder should contain a handful of files that share the name of that unit. So just find the one that contains all of the churchill files and rename it to "Churchill"Here is what inside the folder should look like. After skimming the .ini I don't think I actually had to edit anything in there at all.I guess let me know if this doesn't work. I can try to walk you through it. Otherwise, enjoy. Like I said it's the only way I've played the game for years now. Way more flavor, way more content in terms of units, buildings, tech, everything. Some of the new governments the creators put in are pretty cool and they all have their own uses in unique situations but I did tweak some of them for balance (theocracy for example is almost entirely useless the way they wrote it) so if you want to see how I changed them I can show you that too.
>>2133106Thanks, I looked through the text files folder, couldn't figure out what could be wrong there, didn't click with me it could be something else.
>>2133152Yeah it's kindof an esoteric problem because there isn't a lot of good data on civforums or wherever else. I had to piece it together from posts of similar issues with older versions of the mod and other mods. And the fact that the error appears so late in the game and forces a game crash makes it very frustrating and difficult to recreate if you aren't saving constantly. But that's the only house cleaning you should have to do with it.
