Out now on Steam and Game Pass. I kind of gave up on it during the Insider's Program but I got back into it during EA and they have improved it a lot.
>>
>>2152083
I ain't going back in until they fix the ui. Hate all the streamlining they've done.
>>
>one of the premises is "will empires still be friends when oceans are no more?"
>empires are never friends because they don't know that they exist

TBQH if sometimes monsoons happened without drain being unplugged it would be more fun

Also I hate the sound that corals make
>>
>>2152762
I agree that the UI isn't great, but I don't think it's particularly streamlined. It's just not intuitive enough. For example some important buttons are tiny (like the rush production button) while some buttons you rarely use are displayed prominently (like the empire overview). It's also hard to see what kind of buildings you've already built in a city, especially for factions like the Necrophages where everything looks the same.
>>
Is it just me or polite vampire robot people are busted? Specifically the mass damage "archer"

Made a stack of them and use it in conjunction with dragon stack to bonk them big horse monsters

I still make an obscene amount of money

On the other hand lizards are really weak (with exception of oculum when it's surrounded by research quarters)
>>
>>2153644
U wot m8? The Astonomy Lizards are insanely good. Their special powers are some of the best in the game.
>>
>>2153662
The main issue with the Tahuks in my opinion is that their starting hero is trash, giving them poor early game momentum.
>>
I want an update, or more realistically dlc, that brings back Auriga with all factions into EL2. So then you can pick if you want to play on Auriga or this planet on game creation. Leaving all those other factions in EL1 feels kinda wasteful imo

Is expansion like that sprawling megacity shit from Humankind or more like EL1?

>implying you couldn't get massive sprawl in EL1
Either way, it's much closer to EL1 than Humankind. Unless you're playing Necrophages you're not going to get any megacities since you're very limited in how you link provinces. It's still possible in theory to fill up entire provinces with city districts, but so far I've won one game as Tahuks and one as Sheredyn and in both of them my cities were still small even at the end of the game. Between the fairly steep cost of adding new foundations and the fact that you spend the same currency to claim new provinces, found new cities, as well as plenty of non-city things like diplomacy, it's just not economical to make huge cities unless you specifically build towards them (which seems highly suboptimal to me anyway).
>>
I remember EL1's writing being namby pamby, like when you play the questline for the vampires your leader is worried about being an imperial bastard, and basically none of it was about how his life as a vampire that predates on normal people, and I can't remember if the trans stuff was EL1 or ES2
Is EL2 better or worse?

Genuinely I really liked the Broken Lords because in gameplay they're dust wizards who ignore Food and Industry and have anti-synergy with integrating the angelic nun subfaction that wants to help people, and I really wanted the game to tell me about them and how they function, like how do they make a new person, are they a suit of armor given life? Do they know anything when "born"?

>>2154270
>it's just not economical to make huge cities
Is there a reason to in EL1? If I'm sprawling I've usually already won, even if I pretend I can't just kill the AI, though I play with DLCs off
>>
>>2154608
>Is EL2 better or worse?
It's exactly the same in terms of tone and silly mismatched racial stuff, except now all text is presented as a dialogue which is kind of worse.
>>
>>2154624
oh :|
>>
>>2153630
Sorry, I meant the ui is terrible and a lot of the games systems got streamlined.
>removed equipment for non-hero units
>no laws/city planning
>heroes are exclusively fighting units instead of being flexible governors
>ui was perfect with the minimalism
>quests aren't a box with text and art and are vn quality now
>the council system replacing governors
>luxury resources are stuck as 10 turn buffs
>combat and city building are improved
>populations retain their unique race
1 step forward
4 steps back
>>
>>2154608
Quests in EL2 are worse. All of them are presented as text dialogue without art. Writing quality is mediocre at best. It's sometimes hard to even understand is happening in the quest or how your actions are impacting it.

I was hoping this stuff was just a stand in until later in development but it looks like they are sticking with it.

>>2155221
Yeah the major issue I have isn't the UI but the fact that they streamlined some of the more interesting stuff out of the game. I think they are trying to target the multiplayer aspect of the game with fast, streamlined turns with only a few things to think about each turn. I don't think that how most people play 4Xs and I don't think that it's the right approach.
>>
>>2152083
What the fuck, it's out?
I thought this was gonna be a 2028 or beyond release
>>
>>2155447
It's early access but the vast majority of the stuff is already in.
>>
>>2155221
>>removed equipment for non-hero units
thats replaced by the upgrade system
>heroes are exclusively fighting units instead of being flexible governors
you can put your heroes in as councilors during tidefall and it is worth recruiting weaker heroes if they have great traits as councilors
you just get to use them in combat aswell instead of one or the other

there is no way this is 1 step forward 4 steps back anon
>>
>>2154246
you cant make megacities because the cost of districts (both industry or instant buy cost) goes completely retarded so making more cities is always better compared to spending 20 turns or 10k to make a district

Overall there does seem to be a general lack of ability to do things with other empires outside of warfare. The first game's trading system gave a much higher level of interactivity. I've won games of EL2 where I have not interacted with the other empires at all other than a few turns to grab treaties to ensure they don't bother me. I might as well have played on a map with no opponents.

They will have to review this before full release.

>>
I know people are complaining about the UI but is it just me or does the endgame feel so anemic? I feel like I'm just doing just standard things and then suddenly victory. It feels like I'm barely entering the endgame and then suddenly its a victory before I've even seen half of the "story" going on or even accomplishing all that much
>>
>>2157010
>Do you only get one hero option per civ?
The starter hero is always the same, but you get to pick one new hero from a pool of 3 or 4 after each monsoon. Thats the problem with the Tahuk cause they start with a caster and they're very undertuned atm.

>>2156827
>caster hero is completely worthless
I dont know if they just need to make them more damage oriented or give them more support skills to start. You almost feel like you're starting with a melee/scout army with that faction he sucks so much. Not to mention how squishy he is and the AI just beelines to him every fight.
>>
>>2157282
as tahuks you dont even want to try to fight before the first monsoon gives you another hero (the hero choices you get are also pretty shit)
they can actually start fighting with the tier 4 unit which is a 5 range artillery unit
the tier 3 debuff unit is completely worthless aswell
>>
>>2157243
>is it just me or does the endgame feel so anemic
It's not just you, but the endgame is something they've explicitly mentioned as one of the main areas they want to work on during early access, so hopefully it'll improve a lot over time.

>>2157339
The Tahuk artillery is unironically one of the best units in the entire game, but yeah most of their roster is pretty unimpressive.
>>
>Food is now useless

How do you deal with the bugs? I can win any fight against them since the AI just spams full stacks of pupas, but there's so many of them that when I beat one stack and they retreat, 2 more stacks appear and they just keep cycling the stacks

>and I really wanted the game to tell me about them and how they function, like how do they make a new person, are they a suit of armor given life? Do they know anything when "born"?
They're the same kind of being like the Vodyani from ES2, basically a Concrete Endless version. They even spell it out this time in one version of the Last Lords' final faction quest, for those who couldn't figure it out from EL1 already.

>>2159106
>City halls can go beyond level 2?
Yeah you have to build a triangle of districts to level up the districts around the center which will level up the city hall to 3. I dont know if its a bug or not but getting to max doesn't seem to increase the number of camp attach points for the city cause im still locked at 2/2.

>Level 3 districts
How big is the jump from level 1 city center to 2 to 3? Is it big enough that you should prioritize placing your city in a place that allows you to get to level 3 (ie not on the edge of a territory) and ignore the initial starting 7 tiles you claim?
>>
>>2160275

>>
>>2160331
every level of a district doubles its base yields that includes the city center (not the tile bonuses but the district itself)
never settle directly next to an anomaly since that does not count as a district and will fuck up your district leveling
also you can build 2 science labs next to the anomaly letting you get the adjacency bonus
build near a river if you can the hydropump from second tier tech is the most broken building in the game

This is kind of what I don't like about such a major focus on adjacency bonuses. In EL1 I'm pretty sure they had a lot of district types that had to be built on the specific tile itself. So if you built next to an anomaly you got it's benefits from claiming it in your city zone. But once you got the anomaly district you could build it on the anomaly then get additional benefits from sitting on the tile.

>never settle directly next to an anomaly since that does not count as a district and will fuck up your district leveling
An anomaly blocks off 1 hex as long as there are no mountains/sea blocking off other hexes, you can settle on it, you might need a territory attached to get all the hexes for grand city hall but 160 influence isn't that much especially if you build the forum early. You would need to spend 55 influence and wait for the first lab to get the anomaly in your city and you can build 2 labs on an anomaly anyways. I would advise new players to go for the anomaly if the placement can give them a grand hall down the line.
>build near a river if you can the hydropump from second tier tech is the most broken building in the game

Why ruins aren't just an anomaly type at the very least is beyond me. I did think their ruin restoration was neat, though. I also didn't like how static their unit models looked. Hopefully, that was just because they were still early in development.

We really need the option to deconstruct our own camps and/or cities. Aspects get especially fucked by this since killing coomwraiths gives them a coral spore on the tile the wraith was on, which is usually a tile on the edge of a region. And, for whatever reason, this happens inside of your own regions.
Sidenote: Occupy as a city capture action fucking sucks.
>>
if you asked me what really fucked with this games balance it was the Guardians, if you were lucky and spawned with some basic resources, you hired one of these fucks and steam rolled the entire map.

Reskinned vaulters as a preorder bonus, supposed to be the original humans of the endless setting before they decended into the vaulters and the united empire, pretty much what the vaulters could've been in the early days of auriga
>>
The music in this game is so fucking good.

I can't figure out if I like 2 or not.
It's not immediately gripped me the same way 1 did.
That some I do like/hate some the features. Higher tier resources being time gated behind monsoons is a good way to stop one empire screaming ahead with tech advantage, the problem is it stops optimal plays from screaming ahead.
Camps connecting to cities is good way to stop dead terf that wasn't worth a city from being thing since there's a less costly investment available now.
The logo has a cultist tower right in the middle which gives me hope my beloved will return.

>after auriga froze
The Cultists found their eternal end in the icy depths of Auriga. Plus EL2 takes place during the space age of the Endlsss setting (ES2)

I dunno man. That mask on the pillar is 100% cultist or at the very least another abandoned Endless thing.
Perhaps we'll get functional Endless AI that play the opposite of the malfunctioning cultists.

That's just how the Endless look like. Maybe if the game took place during Auriga's descent into an icy tomb there could be a Cultist faction.
>>
Have they said when the next faction is coming?
>>
>>2165545
The roadmap seems to indicate next year.
>>
>>2165545
I would guess they intend to release it on release and then do 1 or 2 DLC packs with more factions later

Minor faction shouldn't be this strong that it counters an entire factions passive ability.

New update test branch released

>Cruel battle skill now ignores the defense of the unit attacked instead of guaranteeing a critical strike.
Broken Lords losing -1 range on Palanquin and Thralls no longer crit
>>
>>2166188
palanquin was the best unit in the game outside of heroes so deserved desu
>>
>Relic Keeper unit now has 130 Health, 5 Defense, 40 - 50 Damage, 0% Critical Chance, 3 Movement Points, and the following skills: Ranged III, Targeting.
kek, the lizards are stealing the coral's guaranteed crit debuff
>>
>>2166197
the lizards need a whole lot more than that to not suck cocks
>>
>>2166188
>Look at unit changes
>Its just numbers everywhere
Im too dumb to be able to read that. Outside of the Palanquin nerf did any other units get a big change?
>>
>>2166343
they still have the scout movement bonus on only the other side of the upgrade tree meaning the other side will continue to be ignored because why the fuck would i use a scout in my army if it does not give me movement
worrying that they are so clueless about the units they themselves made
>>
>>2166377
Im not defending it, just trying to think what they're thinking. And i wonder if they have it like that to give you the option of a cheap military unit that can can spam out early game or in emergencies. Then give it that military tree to keep that spot alive through the game.
>>
>>2166409
in most cases the movement bonus is on the dust upgrade path so the other one takes titanium and why in the hell would i use titanium on a scout upgrade
im genuinely curious what they were thinking with these
>>
The fuck am I supposed to do with an excess of titanium? It's practically worthless to sell it because there's so much on the market.

"Diplomacy" is complete ass. Reusing the awful system from HK was not a good idea.

>first major update in EA

Kek, they have no idea wtf they're doing. This is exactly why I knew I couldn't trust them whenever they talked about balance.

>EA
You are the playtester and the QA anon, accept that.
>>
>>2167278
Cant wait to ambush their half dead armies and then cap the camp after.
>>
>>2167729
No where did I say or imply that I wasn't or don't accept that. Plus, I'm an insider. This has been the case for months at this point. If anything, that means I have an express pass to complain about the devs' terrible decisions since I've seen all of them on full display for a prolonged period of time.
And why are you acting like this thread isn't intended for discussion of specifically EL2 and even labelled as "Early Access Edition"?
>>
>>2161450
This wasn't answered but there was some major bugs found that caused security vulnerabilities in the Unity engine that EL uses.
>>
>>2159988
Nah, the biggest map is not that huge.
Also like 75% will be under water anyway for most of the game.
>>
Hope they improved on naval combat because who the fuck though the first ones was a good idea?
>>
>>2155445
I was really hoping after the shit that was Civ VII that EL2 would be wonderful. Turns out it's just more garbage. Oh well, I guess we need new 4X studios getting started, these studios need to die.
