It's not groundbreaking, but what it tries to do it does quite well. Meaning it's trying to imitate an outdated yet beloved game. What makes or breaks a game like this is mission design and I have to say they fucked it up here. They have units with Starcraft like abilities and the whole (not)GDI faction relies on these gimmicks, but also kinda kept the tedium of C&C mission with some additional tedium of Starcraft. You can also break mission, if you purposely don't do an objective, but rather explore the map, you can wipe the whole enemy force and the magically, the game spawns additional forces and building to destroy - fucking shit design.
Other than that and the sub-par try-hard cut-scenes. I'm having fun. It's just too bad that so far it's so fucking unoriginal, it feels like a high quality rip-off, rather than its own thing.

fuck off

>Campaign
boring level design, shit cutscenes nothing interesting, just box ticking
>unit design
tame and and mostly boring with poor balance
>voice lines
acceptable to dreadful

Tempest Rising does nothing well. It is rubbish to painfully mid at best depending on what aspect of the game you look at. If it was shittier it would be at least more interesting but it's boring to even make fun of it.

Stormgate really set the standard when it comes to shittiness. The fact that this game is finished, has decent and punchy graffix and animations and has two whole campaigns is enough for me to count it as a success. And I say that as someone who got bored three missions in kek
>>

All anyone needs to know is that the game installs a rootkit as an anticheat.
>>
Developers are talking about player number on X. It not even scraps, it crumbs. 1000 player on weekend. Steam say 7 million people on sontagg playing concurrent? Tempest Drowning 0.013%

Owen Wilson say: wow.

There is nothing memorable about this game.

No stand out unit designs (they blend into the background as well, horrible contrast for an RTS. Glance value is a lost art now).

NOT TIBERIUM is gay and trite.

Wasn't a fan of the limited unit mechanics I encountered like the drone soldiers. Felt too involved for fodder foot soldiers.

Music that tries to be non generic and but just doesn't make the cut. The Frank Klepacki tracks suck, that guy has lost his touch.

The story was uninteresting and campy, and not in the 90s movie "it's trying to be bad so it's good" Tiberian Sun or RA2 category.

I can't stand the aesthetic design.

I played a few missions before refunding it and haven't felt any urge to try it ever again. When I did try to play mp in the 2 hour steam refund window it was just fucking dead. I sat searching for a match for 10 minutes.

the biggest disappointment i had from a video game for a good 10 years
even long time supporters have left and arent supporting it anymore
some even got banned when they began wondering about the stupid design decisions of their retarded lead designer
>>

I don't think it's that bad but honestly... its dead. Ranked is full of account smurfs to the point where the leaderboard is useless and post launch it feels like they're running on a skeleton team.

The designer knows his shit but he had to design the game to a spec at the behest of more senior team members, sadly.

>I don't think it's that bad
I'm sorry, but to me the devs have failed. They're trying to scavenge what they can from the mess, but it's too little too late.
Some people claim they focused singleplayer mode, but with 9 skirmish maps on launch, no map editor, very little custom settings for your lobbies you can't say it's really fun for singleplayer people.
some people claim they focused on multiplayer instead but haha c'mon theres no spectator mode nor replays kek

>The designer knows his shit
He thinks he knows, and maybe he does, but he's really narrow-minded when it comes to feedbacks. He'll ignore most questions and answer to some stupid questions to claim later he's "responding to the community"
And look at the gameplay. Trebuchet tank that looks badass but is poorly armored and gets melted by two basic tanks, what a joke. Look at the ball, what kind of shit is that. Look at the GDF Condor bomber that have to hover above its target, and compare it with C&C 3 Vertigo bombers. Look at the AIs, how they will sometimes swarm the entire map with flood of units, and sometimes be as useful as the last french government (which lasted 14 hours)
Look at the levels design. It seems to be both half-baked and cooked by noobs. Bases spawning out of thin air in campaign, what bullshit is this, are we in 2000 or 2025 ?
By curiosity i attempted to rework the maps but it is impossible, you can't access game files so there's currently no way to mod the game, and the devs do not answer to question regarding to modding possibilities, so take a wild guess. Maybe they're afraid modders could fix their mess in a matter of weeks lol

Tempest Rising was a hard hit in the guts, overhyped and failed miserably. I'm not exaggerating when i say "biggest disappointment i had from a video game for a good 10 years". It's the biggest disappointment i had since Generals 2, hence my blatant frustration with what they prepared

Their mistake was marketing it as a C&C like when it's more like SC

I think this is what put me off, initial presentation looked nice but then I saw the designs (that fucking ball and the flying box) and knew it was ggwp. Evwn Eugen did better in terms of creativity in Act of Agression and that game uses fucking irl units.

And it had 3 factions on launch, can't believe what's up with Veti not being capturable. Thought it would be a CNC X Universe at War moment, but nothing since.

Tried this game recently and quit two mission maps in. I don't understand how we're progressing backwards with RTSs. Fucking warcraft 3 was made by like 50 people a quarter of a decade ago. You'd think technological innovation would make just replicating old successes easier, but no one seems interested in learning. I was amazed how i couldn't tell any units apart, the infantry is like 5 pixels and all black, double click selection has a delay, etc. Meanwhile i can look at footage from an RTS 20 years ago like cnc generals and immediately tell what's what. The campaign progression unlockables are also some of the most uninspired shit imaginable, like infantry leaves car, or 10% of the time deal 15% more damage type of effects.
It really shouldn't be hard to see what people liked about old games and for start just do that.

I'm not even mad at it, but it's just underwhelming

It is almost good but just not that fun
It's got C&C vibes which is cool but also many of the C&C gameplay (BAD)
It is more starcraft-y and that ain't necessarily a bad thing when microing, but also doesn't have exciting units, endgame cool weapons or a particularly good interface.

I remember on the beta I suggested that they made rally points easy to set up from the minimap and to select production buildings easier instead of one by one, and of course, this objectively QoL improvement was met with furious resistance from some fanboys claiming everything was fine and something along that it would make the game spammy... which it is, it's a fucking C&C clone. Thread was closed by a mod and then I've never engaged with the game ever again.

I wouldn't say it's a mediocre game because that sounds awful, but its really close to being mediocre. a 7 at that.
>>
>UEngine
>as always, should be a pretty sight if it was static, but it's a videogame so it's not

Tanks in this game explode with the basic UE burst of Gears of War 1 and there are no sci fi cool units but a ball somewhere on the not so interesting tech tree

Tiberian Sun had mechs, flamethrowers, siege walkers, tunnelers, cyborgs, mutants, etc.

Flying box is basically Chinook from Generals (2003) but even blockier than Chinook from early 3D RTS Generals (2003). And fucking ball is literally a rolling ball from Bloodborne but even goofier, and I am pretty sure they added it only because DORF showcased something similar but there it was literally a ball made of junk and rubble and seemed to be just a very crude siege weapon

This game harvests your data and sends it to the communists so I refuse to try it
