>demo so successful they drop even more unplanned contentdemo chads FEASTING>we get mechswelp time to wait for monday
>>2168538>nerfed pirate flame tanksthank god>made defence missions easierwhy? i thought they struck the right balance with it.
My brain is fried and I can't play turn-based anymore even though I loved the genre when I was younger,
the mission rating to experience system needs to goi dont like feeling like im constantly on a timer, even 4.5 stars make me upset
>>2169191I just don't like the "amount of turns per mission" part of the rating. Rest is fine imo.
>>2168538they decided to update the demo because there are already mods for it
>>2169191eh, its fine desuyou just get few PP less3 5 stars give you 60, 3 3 stars give you like 45so its not worth stressing
this gunits essentially a same as crowbar but with granade4 launcher, it cost x2 tho so its shit for big teams but for small its great as you only shoot one grenade anyway
This would have been pretty cool if it was released in 2001 or something.
>>2169330I've only come under par time on the IED clearing mission because it ends as soon as you destroy the last IED. No need to extract or anything. So you can just use your airstrikes to knock out any that are too inconvenient. The change to pinned units not counting for zone capture is a welcome addition though the defense missions weren't too hard. Felt like a nice capstone to an op. The only relatively threatening thing the pirates can bring against you if you're set up well is a vehicle and that's only because in the demo you have just the SMAW or Rewa to knock out armor.
>>2169191I think that makes good sense. The better you perform the bigger your reward, but it's not so substantial you have to stress over it.
>>2169432you can also kill hostages with it
fugtoo many missions, which is silly with so limited squad leaders
>>2169432perfect mission
>like 5th or 6th operation>last mission >pirates bring 5 armored trucks to battle, 2 chaingun, 2 laser and 1 rocket>Sy destroy 3 when sorting with rocket launcher>one is destroyed by Cody with battle rifles and air support
>>2169574>like 5th or 6th operationhuh?are you some kind of influencer who has a secret streamer-only full version of the game?
>>2169578https://www.moddb.com/mods/menace-demo-infinite-operations/downloads/menacedemo-longoperation
>>2169585what the hellthanks
>>2169578>>2169595i suggest to use https://www.moddb.com/mods/menace-demo-squaddies-standaloneat the start of the campaign one time alongside otherwise you will run out of squaddies fastit really fun to start with basic weapons and gather more stuff after combatI can already see that its gonna be good game
damn that wasn't close but was quite intensealso it look like enemy is scaling with your deployment cap or just getting stronger
just before impact
after impactwell hit I would say, even if it miss the target
>we made xenonauts>but worse!
>>2169734ey puto, its impossiblefirstly, its not even similar to xenonautssecondly, making something worse than xenonauts is impossible
this game have some real LoS problemslike I get why you can shoot through buildings(it feel shitty but you get used to it) but then suddenly you can't shoot through them(the big one) and it feels worst everand there is of course smoke being hard cover
lots of ESL in this threaddit suggests something about the game
hey guys can you give me some tips on party load out ? (like equipment, number of squadies, armor, accessories for the initial missions)- I feel like my fire power is not good enough when encouter pirate commando or the vehicle, it takes a lot of bullets and time to take out the commando.
>>2169976sniper rifle+ammo bag is my response to commando
>>2169976Crowbar + max squad size to shoot any infantry at distance including commandos.Otherwise suppress them so you can walk up close then most weapons can kill them.Sniper rifle kills one model per shot at range too. Vehicle weapons can also kill them. You have lots of options to kill commandos. For enemy vehicles you ideally want the rocket launcher or your own vehicle but you can grind the light trucks down with small arms fire.
>>2169976Menace is entirely about the 4 F's. Find, Fix, Flank and Finish. Two of your squads should have belt feds. I give Pike the larger of the two that needs to be deployed and Darby the lighter one she can shoot on the move. If you're suppressing enemies, they lose turns and can't shoot and that means you can flank them with another squad and gun them down. If you're just sitting there trading shots at max range you're wasting ammo and time.Pirate Commandos are only dangerous if you let them in close. They have a small squad size and relatively little firepower. Either hit them in the open with something like the Crowbar or pin them in place and finish them with grenades/sniper or just keep hitting them until they're dead.Vehicles you can just kill with the rocket launcher or an appropriate vehicle weapon. Only the pirate flame truck has any real armor, so just the vehicle MG can work 90% of the time.
>>2169929Anything more than a single terrain tile in width is generally an LOS blocker. The pre mission map can also tell you: Dark orange blocks LOS and light doesn't. Just assume that soldiers are leaning or shooting through gaps in cover. If you're on the edge of a LOS blocking object, it doesn't give you LOS straight off the corner. It's at a pretty sharp angle. You can engage enemies in the tile directly one tile lateral and distal from the cover. If they're too close to the terrain you're on it'll conceal them.
>>2170129i know that it still suck
IT'S UPI cant really play right now, but the first thing I saw was that they added a difficulty slider
>>2170920A quick look at the operation missions, and at looks like they added some more flavor to the existing missions templates, like instead of destroying weapons supplies now you get to destroy the pirate dropshipsI havent seen the other operation so far, so I will assume it comes after you finish the first oneThe only changes to starting equipment I saw not mentioned here >>2168538 was a vehicle autocannon and a infantry target designator which allows you to mark units, plus it is needed to fire "guided weapons and off map assets"
I know this is a different general. but anyone here plays Lands of Lords? are the servers down for anyone else?
>>2170971no, no idea
new unit, looks like garbage
eh, its just one operation againits just there is some new mission types + you start with some extra ammo bags and walker+autocannonthat is all
also the Infinite mod is dead as devs patched demo so it will not work again
>got a drone with a rocket strapped to it on the last missionREEEEEEEEEE wanted to test it... also lil walker with autocannon + xtra ammo slaps, APC + Lim with the mobile infantry perk is still goated though
the fragmentation buff the auto cannon got fucksit regularly kills 5 or 6 guys in a 3 round burst now
>>2168538one of the missions has you relieving a local militia base and when you get there you can control 4 extra squads>hmg squad>mortar squad>2 rifle squadsthey have also significantly increased the supply points for bringing squads and equipment, you can now bring everything and find yourself in a situation where you dont have enough armor and weapons
>>2169323the problem with that is you are being deployed very far away from the engagementit might take 2-4 turns just to get to the fightand you have 10-12 turns to get it done
I thought there was going to be one more operation in the demo, but isntead it is just basicaly the same shit as it was beforeI am deeply dissapointed Also>Difficulty slider on hard == Rocket truck bullshit in every mission
>>2171426just several new mission types
>>2168538>demo so successful they drop even more unplanned contentthis was one of the worst demos i've ever played. the brightness was eyeball raping, soldiers weren't allowed to fire their guns half the time, and there were women and N-people everywhereI can't imagine how cucked you'd have to be to actually spend money on this, but then again, no one ever accused BBfags of having good taste.
>>2171438smartest /v/eddit nigger
>>2171217nooooo
>>2171455he is at last partially right thothe brightness is blinding >>2171438>I can't imagine how cucked you'd have to be to actually spend money on thisI for once thank these inbreed germs to fuck this up, all the hype is gone
This took me a few tries to figure out. It's not a move+action type of game. Movement is very expensive, you'll just run into range and get suppressed. You have to suppress them first MGs and flank. Which I suppose is more realistic.
>>2171455I accept your concession.
>>2171600yeah, it play differentlythe visuals are really misleading, its essentially board game
>>2171619I can live with the terrain being a bit weird but what gets me is the inconsistency of it. Units are happy to shoot through 4 layers of buildings taller than them but a chain link fence is an insurmountable barrier or some waist high rocks can't be walked across.
>>2171628yep>troop is literally leaning around the corner>no, can't shoot>can't even seethe whole audiovisuals feel like a waste and actually make game play worse than if it was just flat board game like
>>2171610you conceded the moment you opened your mouth to breath you retard
>3 squads>APC with HMG + plasma rifle, extra ammo + smokes>Lim with mobile infantry + RPG>black lady as a scoutHNNNNNGGGGGGG perfect composition>mfw I didn't see the EMP turret and my APC got bonedwoops
>>2171649the goat, also that range K-PAC fucks, the secondary fire for 80ap is really good suppression
i think we all can agree that limchads run this general
>>2171782I am more of Cody fan
I asked this on /v/ but autists couldn't respond. So am I supposed to be excited about this as a BB fan or it looks bad?
>>2172618its different, both in looks and in gameplayI played BB to death(although mostly in EA) and played demo a lotama
>>2172634>amaSo am I supposed to be excited about this as a BB fan or it looks bad?
>>2172636nah, combat is passable but not really good, really stiff ruleset and visuals(3d) works against board style gameplaythe characters(squad leaders) are predefined with personalities and very limited, no ability to create your ownthe campaign layer is not shown so we don't really known much other than its more of a lobby(space ship) and operations are instanced, so no free roamtl:dr - NOcome back and ask this question in February
>>2172637SAD!
>>2172644we will see, but for me hype died
>>2172618>as a BB fanIt's not Battle Brothers so that's kind of irrelevant. The combat is fun and less reliant on random chance than BB. The main issue I have would be the way cover works. Only the terrain surrounding the tile your unit stands on affects their cover level. So you can be behind three layers of cover that can be shot through all that matters is whether you stand directly next to the last layer or not. Once you know how it works the game plays fine but it still looks weird and some of the terrain also have weird designs where it looks like they should provide cover but don't.With that said everything else in combat is good. The weapon diversity, the way accuracy and damage drop off works, the suppression system. I like all those. I had fun with the demo but you can't really judge the game fully untill it's released and we can play the whole thing and not just one mission over and over.
>>2172652>It's not Battle Brothers so that's kind of irrelevant.Lmao that's not how it works. BB is good imo therefore I expect guys who made it to make something good. If a dev makes 0/10 goyslop for trannies I expect their next game to be 0/10 goyslop for trannies too.
Guys, how do you deal with the evac mission ? The number of pirates goes completely out of hand in a few turns and I can't get more than two squads out of trouble. By turn 8, everyone in my team is suppressed and I can't do shit. The special abilities are fine, but they replenish losses too quickly.
>>2172677be fastor save one bomb the other
>>2172659NTA but I think it's good in the sense that I spent like fifty hours in the demo already. It has issues but none of them ruin the deal.I don't like the neutered customization and tactical combat compared to BB and I feel like a "BB but with guns" would be a much better option and would avoid many of the issues the game has, but it's absolutely not a bad game currently. My biggest fear though is that what is in the demo is basically 90% of the game's content.
>>2172659What we have seen of the game so far is good but it doesn't play like Battle Brothers at all. You can like or dislike this game no matter your opinion on Battle Brothers. It's a free demo. Literally just download and play it if you are curious.
>>2172659I think I liked BB idea more than BB game.
Does that mod giving you everything currently in the demo on operation start still work?
>>2173190I think they patched it out.
>>2173190nope, the mod maker said that this was patched outif you have old demo files you can still use it of you do not update and use emu(guess)
>>2169008I'm just having trouble finding ones I like. HoMM3 and MoO are my current fave turn-based games. I used to just play anything but I guess I'm getting picky in my old age. AoW4 feels like a slog to me. Civ series bores me tears so bad these days that I can't even get over the esthetics to play Old World. Crusader Kings 2 was fun for about a hundred hours but I'm done with that.
>>2169941So it's a game for intelligent people, not amerimutts?
I feel like any mission that requires you to hold ground against enemy hordes is going to be an autoskip due to the likehood of rocket trucks being fielded. They can just stunlock your SL, while your enemies pile up, meaning even more suppresion on your guys, and opens up your vehicle to AT, which sucks, because your vehicle is to only thing that might have a chance to counter the rocket trucks.
>>2172679>Be fastEh, I rushed the mission, denied fights with smeokescreens and I actually had everyone secured by turn 10.Turns out I was just being retarded, what a surprise
Man, they really dropped the ball with the cover/los system on this game. IRA guy is completly oblivious to those enemies because the walls are cutting his los.
>>2171628honestly fuck chain link fences
>>2174647Ye he should be able to look past that wall right next to the tower he is in. That L shape of shadow doesn't make any sense. It could be that the game only has two levels of height so even though the tower is visually taller than the wall the game treats them as same level so he can't peek over it.
>>2175191I honestly doubt that it even has height levels, and all that the los calculation cares about is if something is a high cover or not. It also seems that the stance (standing up, deployed, pinned) seems to affect the los or at least the squads abillty to detect things.
>>2175213It adds some vision range but maybe it doesn't add any height. They really should add that before release or at the very least make the tower model smaller so it's less deceptive.
>>2174647Should've made it hexes
>>2175250nah squares are good
>>2174647its like tabletop if judge is anal about rules and total asshole very german
I finished the demo's 4 missions. I'm liking the game, but the fact that squad leaders are pre-made and not pre-generated just doesn't feel right to me. I like the IRA guy's backstory and doubt that generated characters will be as cool, but still i prefer randomly generated characters more. game's got potential for sure
why do people keep calling kody an IRA guy? he dosent sound irish at all. strikes me as more of a backwoods militia type
>>2175733it's more about his trait icon and backstory and not about his voice over
>>2175733ginger+terrorist
rescue and disengage missions are fucking pure dogshit AIDS. two of the local force squads fucking died before i even saw a single enemy and you don't even have control of them until you move a unit next to them, so they would do retarded shit like leave cover then die.
>>2176965Certified BB moment.Cant wait to see the enemies that benefit from your tarded allies
>>2169191Without a soft time pressure a lot of the game doesn't work. Pinging at range becomes a huge issue, and ammo becomes a massive factor.
>the spot i chose to deploy for a mission is right up against an impassable 10-tile wide chainlink fence that you can't see on the pre-mission intel screenthey should add fence scaling to cross a fence for extra AP costor an equipment item that lets infantry cut a 1-tile hole in a fenceor something
anyone was smart enough to keep older demo files?
>>2177405It should be an action cost to make a hole on the fence. JA2 figured that shit out more than 20 years ago.
>flamethrower tank enters field of view>i now have 1 turn to kill it before it instantly kills my 8 man full health squad>the only person with a launcher in range misses completely>it instantly kills my 8 man full health squad>mfw
>>2177943should play better
Been grinding the expert operations, the demo is great, unless they really fuck up somehow the devs currently have gold in their hands. The scouting perk is about a million times more valuable than any other available perk. Playing without it is like playing on a harder difficulty setting. It's not even close.Night mission without the scouting perk is absolute pain.Playing a night mission that also has a sandstorm without the scouting perk is bullshit of the highest order.Triple that as satan's spike dick anal rape for a defense mission with night+storm and no scouting.Quadruple it if you also happen to encounter a double rocket truck. Also the assault rifles have a very clear power ranking after you use them for a while:crowbar (G3) > arc (AK) > k-pac (AR-15), the smg can be great if you set up for it.Thanks for reading my blog.
>>2180240>german-made game>german gun is the best
>>2180253tbf when everyone has scifi armor a 5.56 just doesn't cut it, hell, that's part of the logic why even murrica went for the meme 6.8 ngsw shitI think and hope you get more mileage out of different loadouts vs. different enemies, I can see the kpac being better against some horde type enemies.
>>2180240>the smg can be great if you set up for it.Have you tried getting the shotgun yet? I got it once and it was pretty much a strictly worse SMG. Had to be even closer to do anything and even then it was random whether it could wipe an enemy or not even when they weren't in cover.
>>2180240>the devs currently have gold in their hands. Will it be better than BB?
>>2180896Yes, it looks like it will be. For me a big thing in menace is that the way the squads work is such that one the biggest gripes of RNG in strategy are greatly alleviated: simply by having a squad shoot at once instead of just one guy at a time the sheer number of repetitions (shots) smooths the randomness (regress to the mean) in such a way that a lot of the engagements are far less swingy than in a game like BB. Yes you can and should hedge for swings but they can still often feel kinda shitty if it ends up feeling too RNGjeesy. It also manages to capture a very specific genre-fiction feeling of a modernish firefight with mechanics that actually support stuff like "fire&movement" (or the 4 F's, whatever). Also IFV's with mechanized infantry tickle my autism.
>>2180504I've gotten it only once and couldn't make use of it in that run. I think different equipment will work better vs. different enemies. If you can somehow make jumping right next to an enemy viable I can see the value in the shotty.
>>2180896Flavor-wise I prefer Battle Brothers, but combat-wise I think Menace looks to be better.Less swingy RNG so you wont feel like you lost to bad rolls. More interaction with the battlefield/terrain. The suppression mechanic is interesting.
I don't see the appeal of this game.>Generated generic missions>Basic turn based tactics with no interesting mechanics, not even a WEGO system>Suppression has been done in many other strategy gamesFeels like it'll be boring in a day or two
>>2181242To simplify why it's good: it feels a bit like playing 1.13 JA2, but without the worst busywork parts and endless inventory management. It even has the same formula of premade characters (or caricatures if you will) populating your roster.
>>2168538So is this like an xcom game or something?
>>2177405just ran into such a problem myself. One of the units i deployed there was Rewa who can drive through them so it turned out alright. What didn't turn out alright was the rocket truck on the other side of the battlefield that i missed on the first turn because i was so concerned with the fence and then proceeded to pin the anti tank i had in range of it on the first move along with half my team.
I wonder how the game will work against the aliens. Will the biomechanical horrors get spooked by gunfire?
>>2184726In the sense that it's a turn-based tactics game, yes. It doesn't have that much in common with xcom outside of being in the same genre though.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIUtj5qvMG4>Just... make it look like that Astrates thing you did, okay?
>>2194242This makes me wish for controlling singe entity soldiers and more elaborate maps instead of the big ass squares with 9 people in them. We don't even have any verticality at all.
>>2194242You are trying to be funny but yes when you contact a person who is famous for something - you want him to do the same.
>>2194242Looks cool, except verticality is not a thing in this game, indoor fighting is not a thing in this game, and bringing a real tank and multiple armored squads is not a thing in this game, unless you're playing the baby difficulty.
