I've only come under par time on the IED clearing mission because it ends as soon as you destroy the last IED. No need to extract or anything. So you can just use your airstrikes to knock out any that are too inconvenient.

The change to pinned units not counting for zone capture is a welcome addition though the defense missions weren't too hard. Felt like a nice capstone to an op. The only relatively threatening thing the pirates can bring against you if you're set up well is a vehicle and that's only because in the demo you have just the SMAW or Rewa to knock out armor.

this game have some real LoS problems
like I get why you can shoot through buildings(it feel shitty but you get used to it) but then suddenly you can't shoot through them(the big one) and it feels worst ever

Crowbar + max squad size to shoot any infantry at distance including commandos.
Otherwise suppress them so you can walk up close then most weapons can kill them.
Sniper rifle kills one model per shot at range too. Vehicle weapons can also kill them.

You have lots of options to kill commandos. For enemy vehicles you ideally want the rocket launcher or your own vehicle but you can grind the light trucks down with small arms fire.

Menace is entirely about the 4 F's. Find, Fix, Flank and Finish. Two of your squads should have belt feds. I give Pike the larger of the two that needs to be deployed and Darby the lighter one she can shoot on the move. If you're suppressing enemies, they lose turns and can't shoot and that means you can flank them with another squad and gun them down. If you're just sitting there trading shots at max range you're wasting ammo and time.

Pirate Commandos are only dangerous if you let them in close. They have a small squad size and relatively little firepower. Either hit them in the open with something like the Crowbar or pin them in place and finish them with grenades/sniper or just keep hitting them until they're dead.

Vehicles you can just kill with the rocket launcher or an appropriate vehicle weapon. Only the pirate flame truck has any real armor, so just the vehicle MG can work 90% of the time.

Anything more than a single terrain tile in width is generally an LOS blocker. The pre mission map can also tell you: Dark orange blocks LOS and light doesn't. Just assume that soldiers are leaning or shooting through gaps in cover.

If you're on the edge of a LOS blocking object, it doesn't give you LOS straight off the corner. It's at a pretty sharp angle. You can engage enemies in the tile directly one tile lateral and distal from the cover. If they're too close to the terrain you're on it'll conceal them.

A quick look at the operation missions, and at looks like they added some more flavor to the existing missions templates, like instead of destroying weapons supplies now you get to destroy the pirate dropships

I havent seen the other operation so far, so I will assume it comes after you finish the first one

The only changes to starting equipment I saw not mentioned here >>2168538 was a vehicle autocannon and a infantry target designator which allows you to mark units, plus it is needed to fire "guided weapons and off map assets"

This took me a few tries to figure out. It's not a move+action type of game. Movement is very expensive, you'll just run into range and get suppressed. You have to suppress them first MGs and flank. Which I suppose is more realistic.

I can live with the terrain being a bit weird but what gets me is the inconsistency of it. Units are happy to shoot through 4 layers of buildings taller than them but a chain link fence is an insurmountable barrier or some waist high rocks can't be walked across.

the characters(squad leaders) are predefined with personalities and very limited, no ability to create your own
the campaign layer is not shown so we don't really known much other than its more of a lobby(space ship) and operations are instanced, so no free roam

It's not Battle Brothers so that's kind of irrelevant. The combat is fun and less reliant on random chance than BB. The main issue I have would be the way cover works. Only the terrain surrounding the tile your unit stands on affects their cover level. So you can be behind three layers of cover that can be shot through all that matters is whether you stand directly next to the last layer or not. Once you know how it works the game plays fine but it still looks weird and some of the terrain also have weird designs where it looks like they should provide cover but don't.

With that said everything else in combat is good. The weapon diversity, the way accuracy and damage drop off works, the suppression system. I like all those. I had fun with the demo but you can't really judge the game fully untill it's released and we can play the whole thing and not just one mission over and over.

The number of pirates goes completely out of hand in a few turns and I can't get more than two squads out of trouble. By turn 8, everyone in my team is suppressed and I can't do shit.
The special abilities are fine, but they replenish losses too quickly.

NTA but I think it's good in the sense that I spent like fifty hours in the demo already. It has issues but none of them ruin the deal.
I don't like the neutered customization and tactical combat compared to BB and I feel like a "BB but with guns" would be a much better option and would avoid many of the issues the game has, but it's absolutely not a bad game currently.
My biggest fear though is that what is in the demo is basically 90% of the game's content.

I'm just having trouble finding ones I like. HoMM3 and MoO are my current fave turn-based games. I used to just play anything but I guess I'm getting picky in my old age. AoW4 feels like a slog to me. Civ series bores me tears so bad these days that I can't even get over the esthetics to play Old World. Crusader Kings 2 was fun for about a hundred hours but I'm done with that.

Ye he should be able to look past that wall right next to the tower he is in. That L shape of shadow doesn't make any sense.
It could be that the game only has two levels of height so even though the tower is visually taller than the wall the game treats them as same level so he can't peek over it.

Without a soft time pressure a lot of the game doesn't work. Pinging at range becomes a huge issue, and ammo becomes a massive factor.

Been grinding the expert operations, the demo is great, unless they really fuck up somehow the devs currently have gold in their hands.
The scouting perk is about a million times more valuable than any other available perk. Playing without it is like playing on a harder difficulty setting. It's not even close.
Night mission without the scouting perk is absolute pain.
Playing a night mission that also has a sandstorm without the scouting perk is bullshit of the highest order.
Triple that as satan's spike dick anal rape for a defense mission with night+storm and no scouting.
Quadruple it if you also happen to encounter a double rocket truck.
Also the assault rifles have a very clear power ranking after you use them for a while:
crowbar (G3) > arc (AK) > k-pac (AR-15), the smg can be great if you set up for it.

Have you tried getting the shotgun yet? I got it once and it was pretty much a strictly worse SMG. Had to be even closer to do anything and even then it was random whether it could wipe an enemy or not even when they weren't in cover.

Yes, it looks like it will be.
For me a big thing in menace is that the way the squads work is such that one the biggest gripes of RNG in strategy are greatly alleviated: simply by having a squad shoot at once instead of just one guy at a time the sheer number of repetitions (shots) smooths the randomness (regress to the mean) in such a way that a lot of the engagements are far less swingy than in a game like BB. Yes you can and should hedge for swings but they can still often feel kinda shitty if it ends up feeling too RNGjeesy.
It also manages to capture a very specific genre-fiction feeling of a modernish firefight with mechanics that actually support stuff like "fire&movement" (or the 4 F's, whatever).
Also IFV's with mechanized infantry tickle my autism.

just ran into such a problem myself. One of the units i deployed there was Rewa who can drive through them so it turned out alright. What didn't turn out alright was the rocket truck on the other side of the battlefield that i missed on the first turn because i was so concerned with the fence and then proceeded to pin the anti tank i had in range of it on the first move along with half my team.
