it really isn't that good

It really is.

Dungeon Keeper 1 is great, however Dungeon Keeper 2 adds a bunch of restrictions because of it's full 3D engine.

Most games that take inspiration from Dungeon Keeper take it from DK2 rather than DK1, Despite there being a large community of fans for DK1.

Personally..

Personally..

I have consider working on a RTS game inspired by DK1 but then like, I realize majority of people who play RTS are in their 30s now and there's no money to be made in it.

That being said. I'll monitor this thread and reply to your questions if you want to talk about a game design for DK1 inspired RTS.

Its great and you are a fag
I'm going to play some more DK right now
Thanks op

I want to really like everything about it but I have 2 major problems
>1. Most of the campaign actually being keeper vs keeper instead of the asymmetrical keeper vs. goody two shoes heroic party, ruins the vibe for me
>2. Most matches amount to getting as much cash and as many monsters into the training room as possible and just leaving them there entire game, every other room type is a fraction as important
Ended up getting filtered around mission 12 or 13, but that was after learning that the keeperfx version I was playing made that mission way harder by improving the ai and theyve since fixed it. Might try it again someday despite the issues I had.

Yes, it's rather unfortunate most missions have you fighting other keepers, rather than, for instance, having a "hero dungeon" (they have their imp equivalent, the tunneler, so they could theoretically expand like a regular keeper, if computer-controlled).
>the keeperfx version I was playing made that mission way harder by improving the ai and theyve since fixed it.
KeeperFX fixed a ton of garbage left over in the official release, but it also kinda overtuned some aspects. I haven't installed the latest version, but I might get it one of these days, if only to play around with tick rate, now that they have uncoupled it from FPS. So you can theoretically run the game at 60 FPS and the very first tick rate, mentioned in the design docs, of 12 (regular game runs at 20 ticks, IIRC).

It's a consequence of them spending a huge chunk of development on multiplayer matches against each other and the release of the game coming as something of a surprise for the team so they had to rush the campaign. They had a ton of keeper v keeper experience and maps that they used to fill out the campaign.

I remember reading various stories from people who were on the team (mostly secondary positions), mentioning how the devs would play a ton of multiplayer (and the programmer team would cheat by adding a gem patch to their side of the map). Though it seems they didn't play asymmetrical multiplayer, where some guys would use evil creatures, and the others would use heroes (they never implemented room type/size requirements for heroes, AFAIK).

Once you're a few decades older, or perhaps if you detox from the waste pit the Internet has become now, you will realise that games should be made because you want to and not just to earn some money.
>b-but it's hard
Good things are usually not easy.

Bonus: reflect on how the youth used to make games they wanted to play themselves in the bygone era despite it also having been not easy back then. They had the same understanding despite still being young. Enabled by the environments they grew up in and lived in primarily.

I actually liked the second one too. Always did like the Black Knights.

Okay but the real question is: dungeons 3/4 OR war for the overworld
played 3 a little and it seems casual, listen to some podcast in the background on the weekend kinda fun

Never played Dungeons but Wfto was fun but community seems super dead all other was fun and artstyle is ok.
>>
>>2170139
Overlord had this same problem, where instead of being an evil villain you're actually fighting heroes that have been corrupted by evil, and it ruins the vibe completely.
Just let people play as a fucking villian.
>>
Pity the only real dungeon game now is Dungeons 4 and that game is boring and lame.
>>
>modern dungeon keeper based off of epstein island
>child sacrifice and sex trafficking
>torture chambers
>masonic temples
just make it so edgy and conspiracy pilled
>>
>>2176937
If you read "The Dreadful Demise of Derek the Dauntless" you'll see that in the original they were anything but heroes already.

dungeon keeper clones make money, just suck it up and do it until you figure out if you have the competency to make a game.
>>
>>2176920
dungeons 3/4 are really simple and shallow. So depends what you are looking for.
>>
>>2169867
Not really fond of having no direct control over my creatures. But it's a really cool idea that sadly War for the Overworld did not deliver for me personally
>>
>>2170139
Peter Molyneux said he regretted adding the ability to drag'n'drop creatures with the hand cursor, he thought it made the game too easy
>>
>>2188812
It's the only thing that makes the game fucking possible. If you had to rely on that dogshit marker to rally your monsters, the game would be unplayable.
>>
>>2190180
You have barracks too but I agree. There is no realistic way to make DK1 in the year it was made in playable without the hand being able to pick up creatures.
>>
>>2190400
didn't they do the same thing in DK2? And didn't he do the same thing in black and white which also turned out to be OP as fuck? lmao that guy is such a clown
>>
>>2195755
Molyneux didn't make dk2, he had already left Bullfrog
