>I just want to enjoy space exploration
Well space exploration is tough shit, science is tough shit, otherwise it wouldn't be a big deal. It s not meant for you instant gratification ADHD children.
>>
>>2170519
Cats will surely fix it
>>
Can I learn KSP on my own or will I need guides at some point?
>>
>>2171242
>Can I learn KSP on my own
Yes, and fucking up while doing so is about half the fun.
>>
>>2171242
It's fun fucking up until about the point you start going to Minmus
Basically it's no fun to find out a rocket you took an hour to design and fly to the destination is actually a failure because you forgot one thing, staged something wrong or turned its solar panels away from the sun

You then go to other planets and find out that's a ballache
So you look up how the top youtubers did it back when the game was popular
"Just aerobrake"
>try it
>ship burns up immediately
>heat was made real since then
>don't try it
>need fuckloads of fuel to circular orbit
>send a probe down
>chute blows up
>>
>>2171242
Depends entirely on what's your goal
>Career mode
You're fucked, guides are a must
>Any other mode
You will probably eventually figure out moon landing on your own, but that's peak. And that assumes you weren't asleep during your physics classes and actually remember them.

Don't suck at the game, it's an easy fix
>>
>>2170519
I would like a game where you run a space program and you can design rockets and spacecraft just like in KSP, without having to fly them. That way, you can do missions involving multiple launches without it becoming tedious or having to deal with physics bugs.
>>
>>2171242
no you cant
docking even with a guide is hell
>>
>>2177103
>why cant i point my ship straight on the planet and land there like in every single hollywood movie? what is an orbit? what is periapsis, what is atmospheric drag?
>>
>>2171371
>Basically it's no fun to find out a rocket you took an hour to design and fly to the destination is actually a failure
that is a normal ksp experience and has nothing to do with learning systems. Do you honestly copy all your rockets from someone else?
>>
>>2177119
stealing ideas is different. I was very excited to steal the idea of the two tiny retranslation satellites that you attach to your main ship and release during your first orbit of another planet, previously i've launched their own missions for it and went overboard with the size of the needed dish and fuel supply.
>>
>>2170519
>want to play KSP again after a long time
>remember the pain of installing and configuring 100+ mods
>play something else instead
>>
>>2177119
No I genuinely forget to add some pieces of equipment like a solar panel, an aerial or a spare piece of EVA equipment. The staging system obfuscates this. I do not know if there are even mods that warn you about this.
When you run multiple launches, because you have transfer windows, you cannot restart back at the VAB. I'm not sure if swapping ships or using detachable landing cans also invalidates the restart button.

Hours of work, gone, poof.
>but that's normal in this game
And I'm telling you it isn't fun.
>but it's normal to not have fun
Evidently I'm wrong for thinking games are supposed to be fun, engaging and without tedium. Next you'll tell me I'm wrong to think KSP2 is bad.
>>
>>2177484
be a man and play without saves, kill your kerbals as god intended.
Next time you wont forget to bring a ladder.
>>
>>2177103
>reduce relative speed to object you're docking with
>slowly move towards the object
I thought lining up the orbits would be hell but it's easy once you grasp what you're actually attempting to do
>>

>KSP
are the more specific boards now being used to generally discuss games without the shitposters that are on /v/?
>>
>>2177542
/vst/ probably has the highest concentration of autistic gamers, don't be surprised if they forget and discuss autistic games that aren't technically strategy
>>
>>2177103
Docking requires grasping orbiting really, really well. After that, it's just one of those 'object A moves at X speed, object B moves at Y speed, calculate point of connection" math quiz.
But yeah, figuring it out on your own is fucking hell.

Any simulation game that requires planning ahead is technically /vst/. I mean Silent Hunter has a semi-regular general here. We had Derail Valley threads, too, and that's effectively a railroad diorama VR experience

I guess you're right, I don't really have anything against it
the only really strategic game about space missions that I know is pic related
>>
>>2177628
Why aren't there more spaceflight strategy games?
>>
>>2177881
slytherine tried to remake BARIS with Space Program Manager, but it's pretty crappy
some time ago I played Mars Horizon but I didn't really like the puzzle segment of the missions

learning through trial and error is the fun part, you get really into it for a week and then you go read about irl space exploration with a completely new perspective, this is one of the most beautiful gaming experiences that ive had and i barely made it to the moon.
>>
>>2180388
>learning through trial and error is the fun part,
Only when you're as far as the mun, any further and it becomes tedious without mods/cheats.
The only exception to this is crashing in to the sun...

>planes are obsolete
man if they added someresource mining/transport and then just assign approved models to transport them it would be great

Should I buy the dlc or do mods make them superfluous?

historical modules is fine.
the other i've barely used. I think all its features are from the mods. You can make complex engineering projects with its modules but as a new player you probably wont touch them. Can buy but absolutely not for a full price.

I still enjoy making SSTO's
SSTtheMun(andback) is the real challange.

Too late, a few anons on another thread convinced me it was finally "good", so i bought it for 4.5 bucks and holy shit.
Unironically makes vanilla SH5 look like a good game, couldn't even get a refund because i exceeded 3 hours of playtime
>>
>>2176974
have you tried mars horizon, the rocket building is completely simplistic but it's everything else you're asking for
>>
I was used to work for another company owned by TakeTwo and was brought over to help with KSP2, the shitty business laptops they made us use constantly crashed and couldn't run the game above 10 fps, most doomed project I've ever witnessed. The only positive was that experience got me into playing the original, which is pretty good.

This
The fun dries up after you successfully do a Munlanding
Minmus rewards dealing with an inclined interception by giving you a really unique and brightly colored planetoid (the most unique celestial body in the game) and with low gravity that means you can't fuck up the landing and you can explore leisurely

It's all downhill from there
Even the oxygen planet isn't fun because refuelling requires using the docking mechanics that were designed for spacecraft
>>
>>2181102
You know what I'd like, KSP - Aviation transport ed. Basically, Kerbal but aircrafts only:

Your job is to design, build and then fly aircrafts between specific airports to establish routes.
"Special" airports consist of water landings, airdrops where you can't land and have to airdrop cargo, primitive airfields which lack the ability to refuel, short runways, etc.
Routes are assigned as contracts, with varying values for Cargo, Passengers, Fuel Efficiency, Time, Min/Max altitude etc. with harder contracts having multiple requirements. And more demanding contracts that require you to make return flights or fly between multiple airports as part of a route.

You could even throw in a light multiplayer element, where you can spot other players aircraft on the tarmac or flying routes (and then kamikaze them out the air).
