Someone recommended Thea in a recent thread, comparing it to the early-game feeling in civ. I think the card-based combat and the village/party management is interesting, but is the game really supposed to look this shit? It is just a featureless grey muddle.

I can't really imagine myself playing/watching this shit for hours. Are there mods that fix this?

Ok how do I get into this game
I remember trying years ago and dropping it confused but I think I gained a few IQ points since then

Followup question, I have both 1st and 2nd, which one should I play first?

In the 2nd game you can move your base and there are obvious biometric
The 1st game has a permanent village where you spawn.
Getting a shit spawn sucks but gearing up for an expedition was a lot more fun.
I'd play 1 first and switch to 2 if you're getting fed up with the slow pace

you launch it and play it? just make sure you understand the combat system correctly.
and form some strategy, though obviously harder the first time around. think hard about what guys you recruit and get some elven wood buildings.

bump for interest as well, I could never tell what actually these games kind of are (Thea, king of dragon pass, the other spiritual sequels they made). They have look like gamebooks, half like civ games, and Thea added card combat, but whether they're on rails or totally random dynamic storytelling or I dunno
maybe I'm a retard bc I see lots of text and assume its the same game when maybe there's no relation

The first game is like the simple basics of the game idea. The second builds on that idea and sends sound down a rabbit hole with its crafting system. Which is hard to understand but once you get it, it is really rewarding.
Both games rely heavily on random events. These are similar to Battle Brothers, for example.
