No, homm3 skeletons aren't looney tunes, olden era are.

I don't have a clue what you're talking about, I just like those sprites.

>homm3 designs are not looney tunes
Never said so but thinking about it there's an argument about that with some tower units lol. I meant to poke fun at the setting and background ayy story in general.
>>
>>2175632
I like the consistency in V's factions. The factions feels coherent like the units go together. Some of the older games they just threw a bunch of random shit together and called it a day.

Both upgrades has some pretty good abilities for their melee attacks but in the end simply sitting in the corner and lobbing fireballs is the strongest option. Ranged attacks and especially magic ones are very strong in V.

Extremely tough choice but I think I'll go with Phantom Warrior. Very unusual yet stylish undead samurai esthetic coupled with cool fluff and the 50% chance to paralyze enemy.

Easy.

This isn't a hot take. Slow-crawling giant spider which fires a single long-range red laser. The default Cybran color scheme of red/black is always a classic, too.

As >>2184238 said incubus and succubus are based on the words for to "to lie on" and "to lie below" (in+cubare / sub+cubare). Concubus implies con+cubare which would translate into "to lie with." None of these explicitly refer to gender even if the implication is clear. Of course in popular culture a succubus is typically female and an incubus is typically male, though even this isn't necessarily a gender thing more than it is an appearance thing, because in many cases incubi and succubi are assumed to be just different forms of the same creature. Either way, I don't see a point in calling this a Concubus instead of a Succubus. It doesn't make any kind of sense to do so as some sort of politically correct sidestep considering that the character itself is still obviously a highly sexualized female. It's more likely some half-assed attempt at creating a legally distinct variant since you can't exactly copyright a succubus.

I think of this as a point of why I liked his videos, he was good at pointing out details even if he didn't know why they were important, compared to many others who mainly talked about how good or bad something was.

Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era
A demo has been out for a few weeks now.
>>
>>2188392
I haven't played Homm6 but the game posed themselves to be disliked by fans of the series right away. 4 resources instead of 7, zones of control, 5 factions, the lowest since the first Homm, initially no town screens (added later in an update). My personal unimportant nitpick is lack of Sylvan, which make it the only Homm1 faction that doesn't reappear in every main game of the series. But this could have been all more or less brushed aside. What really took the cake and what no doubt was insisted on by Ubisoft was the always on online integration. Supposedly for dynasty weapons, artifact that you level up between maps.
>>
>>2189213
oh come on, each faction only has one resource they give a shit about anyway
>oh no sulfur is blue now
>>
>>2190023
>4 resources instead of 7, zones of control,

>>
>>2190114
Nope, that's not true.

If I don't need Sulfur, and you need Sulfur, it can still be interesting to grab it to deny it for you. If it's within your reach, if it's not, then maybe I can ignore it. There are many degrees to this that will determine how different people prioritize the resources depending on their strategy.

For mage guilds we need a wide variety of resources, for creatures we need more of a specific one.
Some resources are shared beyond the mage guild, to different degrees.
in Homm1, knights and barbarians both compete for crystals.
Warlocks and Sorceress both need a bit of gems for their mid tiers, while warlock needs a lot of sulfur and sorceress needs a lot of mercury for their best units.
In homm1, if I can't find the crystals for a cathedral, I might make jousting arenas instead and rely on Cavalry instead of Paladins, and stock the sulfur for a potential switch to dragons if I find a warlock castle.
In some cases I might have a few crystals, and hope for some more, I'll weigh my options, do I spend the crystals I have on a mage guild upgrade, or do I keep them in case I find more so I can get Paladins.

Variety in resources affects your strategy.
>>
>>2190144
if there was a 50/50 chance to replace a resource with a pile of dung that would affect strategy too

But most importantly, they can Inflict Ghoul Curse on most units in the game, which (if the afflicted unit fails the resistance check) allows you to raise that unit after successful combat back as a ghoul. I had campaigns where 80-90% of my undead army was composed of Ghouls transformed by these Death Bringers.
Also, they look rad as well.

Macedonians literally served Achamenids to fuck up all other greek fuckbois. But what's more important, 2 centuries later Alexander himself basically turned Persian when he realised that in Babylon Darius had 10 times (!) more wealth in clothes alone (!) than the whole budget of the Delian League that Athenians conveniently decided to store at Acropolis and used it "to immeasurably increase the beauty and power of Athens". 10 times in clothes alone, IIRC it was ~500 to ~5000 talents.
No wonder the Seleucid Empire was more of a successor to Alexander's Macedonia, than the Macedonia itself. You knew of how that when Seleucus tried to reunite with Macedonia some 50-ish years after Alexander's death he's found it in about the same state, as Kiev was when Russians got it back in the XVII century: a derelict disjointed war-torn cultureless shithole? Disappointed, thy never bothered again; as so ironically Persia turned out to be a better Macedonia. It's the Seleucids that are responsible for spreading Hellenism from Judea to Bactria and India. The Hellenistic-Zoroastrian synthesis of Christianity some 1.5-2 centuries later might have never happened if Seleucids didn't succeed so much in influencing Judea to the point of Jewish youth taking Greek names.

lol what? The comparison makes no sense
Macedonian pikemen wore fabric and linen armor. They relied on their shield for hard protection. Grieves for their shins were the first plate armor they'd invest in before getting plate armor for their torso, which was prohibitively expensive, because their shins weren't guarded by their shield.
Yet if you have no shield and are cladding your whole upper body in expensive maille and steel plate, it makes 0 sense to leave the legs unarmoured. You've already invested in the most expensive part of the armour at that point yet are leaving the legs open to mortal wounding. You'll never find a historic example of that.

To this day I still don't understand the rationale behind the Hydralisk design.
>big snake dragon with a double set of teeth and muscular arms ending in huge scythe claws
>can't fight in melee at all, actually fights by squirting out long range bone spikes somehow
>>
>>2288851
i imagine that the hydralisk was originally designed to be a melee and only attack ground units, but then for the sake of balance, they were upgraded to not be melee at all but their design was too cool so blizzard decided to make the hydralisk keep their scythe arms like a t-rex
of course i'm making this shit up, as i don't really know what the devs were thinking

they're spitting mountain dew and yes, probably they wanted the hydralisk to be a hybrid of tyranid and alien from the movies, so in conceptual phase it was a melee unit, but they realized zerg needs *some* ranged units too

It just doesn't work with HoMM. It's always was about collecting cool pokemons. Having different fantasy creatures with "professions" like humans is boring by definition.

Conversely, Disciples 2 made an amazing job with dwarves even though half of their units are various combos of helms, hammers, axes and beards.

Nah, they don't, they aren't connected on the upgrade tree.

Every race has four basic 1st level units - melee, ranged, mage, and support. In case of the Clans, it's the dwarf, axe thrower, tenderfoot, and hill giant.

These basic units get to get upgraded along different upgrade paths as long as they got enough experience, and the corresponding building is constructed in the capital.

Plus every race got a unique special unit that can be unlocked for hiring after a certain level 2 building is unlocked. For dwarves, it's the yeti unlocked by the mage level 2 building, which is why it's grouped with them.

Perhaps, my introduction to the series was the 5 game, so I did not notice the primitive economic system back then. What was jarring is the barebones campaign, even during its release a schoolboy like me noticed that the campaign felt like a fan-made mod rather than something professional. Music and the change of climate were top notch though, seeing water freeze and allow your troops to actually cross over waters and rivers was groundbreaking for 00s. Plus the graphics were very advanced for that era, as well.

One of the examples of the campaign being junky as hell is this guy, the uncle-regent in one of the first missions. One of the few NPCs that had a unique model, plus he was a relative of the hero. You would think that this signified his importance, you will meet him again later eventually and he will do something? Wrong. The guy was featured only in one campaign mission and you never heard nor seen him ever again. Felt like a huge waste of a 3d model in the game where most quest-givers had generic models

yes but at the time they mostly fight in light formation as javeliners, worth noting that Philip troops who were trained to fight as pikemen were also trained to fight as javeliners - they were essentially dual trained and could serve both roles based on equipment, which Alexander use in his conquest

>well as town guardians
Meh. 250 HP & 60 damage on a titan vs 200 HP and 50 damage on 2 squires doesn't seem like a huge advantage. But after a level up (80 XP only each) these squires get to upgrade to knights/witch hunters which will have 300/280 HP and 100 damage between them. While a titan (if it ever levels up at all) after 475XP will get +25 HP and +6 damage. This is useless.

Spending 300 gold on the building + 300 gold to hire a titan is wasteful, you can almost equip a whole party with this.

>Yetis
What is even the point when hill giants exist.

>Fiends
They are actually great since they get gains to their poison DOT.

>Griffins
This is a meme territory now.

>Werewolves
>body blockers for squishier backline leaders
Come on. 300 g on the doomdrake building (which you'll often will not even want to build since every other undead branch is strictly superior), 750 g on the werewolf building + 1000 g for a werewolf intself. 2 days worth of build and 2050 g to marginally protect a rode planter? It's toast against any party with level 2 mage or mage leader. And even if it's not it's no use if the banshee dies to ranged, while your werewolf is stuck with the dead leader.

Wraiths are much cheaper to build, and will go a long way.

I'm just saying that when you end up with 9999 gold in your treasury, you stop making optimal choices in favor of just building unnecessary dwellings just to enjoy the look of the town screen, or just throwing a unit in the garrison because you don't want a lvl.1 party taking it over.
