I know videogame music is a little passe, but do some STRATEGY game tracks really hit you? The music in these games is often focused on the grand endeavours of nations juxtaposed with the quiet, tragic fate of individuals ground up in brutal war. I think that's really evocative. I've cried to some of this music. Bird of Time from Shogun 2https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gcdy-lxqi50Forever from RTWhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UApsdueSYQ0A Cruce Victoria from EU3https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cCB7nrhaKEMaybe most of all:Sogno di Volare from Civ 6https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQYN2P3E06s

Song of Mountains, trapped in fucking Civilization Online of all games.Sucks that (to my knowledge) it never got a proper CD release and only exists as ripped directly from game.https://youtu.be/xIuzjui58rA
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vpv8vaq583wRome Total War main menu theme always gives me chills whenever I start up the game. I don't think any other Total War game comes close to the atmosphere RTW had.

>>2182585Cool song but the fuck are these leaders?
>>2182585>>2182754I've never heard of that game, wtfa Sid Meier's Civ MMO with cute sexy women leaders sounds like some bizarro world shit, not surprised it was cancelled and apparently only known to koreans.i want to fuck all 4 of those leaders, though they could've made the mesoamerican and egyptian ones more tastefully brown
I love the Victoria 2 renditions of US civil war and reconstruction era songshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T69cZctB81Ihttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73BWbW77lM4https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1DIrS9R8kCwand last but not least,https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FapbUcVb6vkI'm surprised even 2011 paradox put that song in the game, though it sounds quite different orchestrated and doesn't have the lyrics for which the song is known for.
>>2182754>>2182796It was a shameless coomer game that indeed only launched in Korea and lasted like a year before it was shut down. Also good music to not be offtopic.https://youtu.be/fUJpoy0zJO0

>>2182514All Paradox games up to CK2 have really good soundtracks. IDK about the recents, I dropped the newer ones. I forget what the game is called but there's a few sci-fi tracks that are godly. I'll go look.

The original Cossacks had a really solid soundtrack that never really gets mentioned. IIRC the Kyiv symphonic orchestra was involved.I highly recommend you listen to the whole thing, it's only like 40 minutes.https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLkPCEUWJspOlYKOHrayCNMkUlf6P54d2T

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5A7hwjYXFwI really liked the original Civ 5 title theme, it really gave the vibe that you were embarking on a grand adventure to build a civilization. The title music replaced by the DLCs isn't bad but it just doesn't hold up to the vanilla one.
Hoi3https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qyms4cVEVY
EU3 as OP's example makes me sad, because EU2 had a wonderful soundtrack of real historical music, and it was reactive to the timeperiod you were playing in. The start of the game had medieval music, up through the renaissance, and the late game had baroque music. There were some killer Bach tunes, and who can forget fa-la-la-lan?Paradox dropped this on their subsequent games for generic slop.
>>2183666Yeah but EU2 is a worse game

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6N1jKvQZ34I like EU IV's OST. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pg8ayzRqc4cStellaris's (I know) is also good.
>>2185358Okay then I think it was a funny complaint they didn't use open source music for their game, stuff you could put in yourself. That it makes you sad that others you have no relation to listens to this music during gameplay and finds it enjoyable. Really like an old men yelling at clouds.

Great fucken thread. Strategy game OST's pluck the strings of my soul. Vic 2 and Eu3 especially have great soundtracks. Rome 1 has a really special soundtrack too.https://youtu.be/d3-7wjri_QE

>>2195090I get you, homie>Play game>Especially a strategy game>Talk radio or podcasts in the backgroundThe game would require to have some ungodly good music to be worth listening to just that, and no matter how brilliant the track, it will eventually get stale, anyway.I think the last game with good music was Populous 3. It had very basic music and managed to work with it, simply by applying drums over the base when in combat, completely changing the composition and complexity of the track.Oh, right, I forgot: good music requires a proper level of complexity and composition, not just a catchy tune to hum.
