Why the hell can't I get any more human immigrants in my city?
>>2185287How's their loyalty? Maybe you're out of immigrants but seems unlikely with a city this small
>>2185338My loyalty and happiness are both at 89% The issue is that the "Available" thing is at -20, but this makes no sense. I have multiple cities close by with humans in them. Was I supposed to literally keep rerolling until I had a full on kingdom of humans one fucking pixel away?
Playing on version 69? Ive heard a lot of bad stuff about it, that its more fucked than even 68, the last one ive played, and even then the tech and general economy was bad, but i was able to get constant immigrants even in areas where my race wasnt present much
>>2185450>Playing on version 69?I wouldn't know what's wrong with it. The issue is just that I can't get human immigrants. I can get from the other races, but then that just...complicates everything. Then all of a sudden you gotta have different stuff and different houses and you build them homes but they'd rather be homeless for some stupid reason even when you assign it to their race, and you give them high priority at the job you want close to said homed but they won't take it...I have no idea why I can't get more human immigrants it just says "Available -20"
And before someone says it's due to distance, here's a map. Gimwood, Ibral and Respaway all have thousands of humans. I have like 100 available housing.
>>2185459I think you're supposed to transition into raising your own native population? I don't know what your population is at, but they could have also changed it so you stop getting immigrants much sooner. It could also be a bug or just another asinine "zero sum balance" change.
>>2185706That'd be impossible, I literally only have 300 humans.
songs of sex
Seriously though, is there nothing I can do? I am hard stuck at 300, and "Multiracial" cities seem like a fucking headache. I'm not big enough where I can rely on birthrates or strong enough to just ensalve people so i don't have to give a shit about their happiness. So unless there's something I'm missing, it seems like i literally have no choice other than starting...again....from zero...
>>2185674just increase happiness for humans
>>2185741My happiness is already high. It's just not enough.
Why are humans such little bitches?>WEEEE, I DON'T WANNA HAVE FISH OR FRUIT OR VEGETABLES, I JUST WANNA HAVE BREAD AND MEAT>NOOOOO WHY ARE YOU RESTRICTING ME TO JUST BREAD AND MEAT, I NEED MORE DIVERISTY IN MY FOOD! WEEEEEEEEEEEE
>>2185758yeah, it's not enough, so increase it
What does /vst/ think of me new city I just started?
>>2186011You need to expand the size of your shitatoriums no less than eight fold or society will collapse.
game seems comfy, what am I in for?
>>2186692An eternal spiral of needing more labourers to work on your buildings, which require more resources to sustain them, so you build more buildings to sustain those labourers, but they're not manned so you need more labourers to man those buildings to sustain those labourers...
>>2186692Diminishing rewards the game. Instead of having the classic gameplay loop of a game like this or trying to balace it in a smart way, the dev just nuked all the ways you can progress from a constant state of grinding.
>>2187525yeah shit sucksall he had to do was expand the nobility system but then he rebalanced everything for no fucking reasonyou just have to mongolmaxx and force everyone to pay you tribute because otherwise your city-state will never be able to sustain itself
>>2187587It's annoying because I really wanna enjoy this game, but everything just sucks balance-wise. I wish there was a way to fix it with mods, but the only mods are shit like "quadruple production of everything"Honestly, just the ability to change soil type would already make me a hell of a lot happier. I'd be able make all my farms in a specific place so I don't have to make a bunch of different stupid little farm villages.
I made a tilapi city, then when I got into a bigger battle for the first time, I found out that the dev nuked archery, which is supposed to be their main strength into being nearly useless, while they're also the worst melee fighters.
what is the meta when it comes to warehouses, do you make small satellite warehouses spread through the city like the dev intended, or just make a giant central one like in the good old days?
>>2187796I make a central warehouse and smaller ones for maintenance/market stocks and sometimes crafting areasAlso for stuff that gets exported, I'm not hauling all that shit back to the main warehouse
>>2187796>>2187814Central warehouse? How does this even work? Aren't you supposed to make>Big Warehouse for any major production chain, like Wheat -> Bread>Small warehouse on every population center to hold all the shit for the food distribution stalls and marketsThe only time you need a "central warehouse" is when you just started so you put everything on a single place.
>>2187612You can use the settings when you start a game to reduce the maintenance and spoil rate and such, which makes the game sort of playable untill you need research which does not have a setting. If there was a 10 times research points multiplier setting i believe i would be able to sort of enjoy the game, but i dont have big hopes. It sucks because other games like this dont realy fit well with me, this is the only one i liked and it sucks that the dev is turbo-autisting so hard about making the game a pain in the ass for some retarded reason. If i knew how to make games i would make one like this one but balace it towards a nice immersive experience instead of grinding numbers and jacking off at excel sheets.
How are you supposed to produce food with Garthimi? They have the balticrawler breeders, but idk if I'm doing something wrong, but even if I carve out a huge area in a mountain, which takes forever, there's only 4 animals in there, producing like 8 food per day, while I'm consuming 50.
>>2188054>any major production chainI mass export food buffed with tech and nobles and import almost everything else, i don't have any sizeable production chains worthy of a big warehouset. Amevia enjoyer
>>2185353general happiness or human happiness?
>>2186725Yes it feel like I just can't make money on anything, no matter how much I dump into it. Had the most success with clothing because fibre was dirt cheap but them clothing goes down in price, what am I even meant to do?
I've been doing some good progress with my new human city.Only issue is, I'm not sure what to add next...now, the "next step" feels like it should be making pottery. But all the clay deposits are kinda far. I don't know how i'd manage to supply the village there with stuff.
>>2188843Ignore the cavesBuild giant repeating crawler domes outside
>>2188947Suffer
>>2189933Not sure if it's the proper way, but I build a warehouse right next to the deposit and then make one of my city warehouses draw stores from that warehouse
>>2189941Those are still really annoying compared to normal pastures, but I guess I'll try it.
>>2189933Start building a real army to conquer weak regions, and be friendly with the rest, ultimately you want access to the market of a big kingdom if you want to make moniesI don't remember how it's called but iirc the treaty after trade deal gives you access to their neighbors Pick a couple stuff you want to export and keep making moreYou can't do everything because of limited nobles and tech, it's better to specialize
>>2189992>Start building a real army to conquer weak regionsBro, I don't even have clay, much less an army. I haven't set up any "military quarters" or "research quarters". My current issue is that I need pottery and clay to do stuff. But the clay deposits are distant. So I don't know how to make sure said village gets supplied.
>>2190132Depends on how far away the deposits are. If thay are out of range of your facilities then best thing is to build a mini city for that deposit and to handle resorces with large scale transportation
>>2189933Soulless
>>2190132Just buy the clay anon. If you try to be autarkic it'll make everything harderAlso idk how many people you got but you'll start getting raids above 200 >Research Don't waste your time, you get free research when you reach new tiers of population, you don't need to have citizens researching until way later
>>2190348Natural cities look nice but they're too messy and inefficient, it makes me genuinely angry when everything is messy. I cannot play "naturally">>2190352Well, that's weird. I have 500~ people and only had one bandit group threaten me for like...3k wood. Which is literally nothing because I have 30k in a warehouse from cleaning out that big field for my crops.
>>2185287>wanted to make a cute lizard colony>fishing nerfed into oblivionits not fair man
>>2186692Just play the demo
>>2190482I legit thought I was doing something wrong when I built my fisheries and all of them only had 3 guys working there.
>>2190482You settle on the ocean shore like god intended right? When you start putting nobles and techs into the equation you unironically drown in fish pretty fast
When one race likes another but that race hates the former, can they actually live together or is it just the dev trying to trick you?
>>2190419That doesn't look efficient at all.
>>2190775They can live together but you better keep them separatedI have cretonians in my amevia city doing cretonian stuff, they have their happy wooden round village near the fields, but they also get the cooking jobs and the ones working in the main settlement regularly get murdered by the amevias
How tf do I increase the happiness of my human guys? I give them two sets of clothes, 1.5 rations, plenty of bread, stone houses. They have access to all the services, but of course they're not upgraded so that means it's shit. But I can't upgrade my damn services without research. And for that I need more immigrants to man my workplaces. Which require happiness. So what do?
>>2191037Make sure you have enough amenities, i see that wells and markets and toilets are only half. Also make sure to provide resources for houses like lumber, furniture and cloth. Or just play a better game.
>>2191037Get more food and more of their preferred foods. You literally only have bread. Why do you have people fishing instead of raising pigs?
>>2191086>, i see that wells and markets and toilets are only half.Except that's not because of access, it's because or upgrade. >>2191179It's a seaside map. The bonus to fishing is huge. Produces a lot of stuff. Ranches are literal garbage tier. Ridiculously ineffective.
>>2191209Sell your fish and buy other foods thenI hope you're using cattle appropriate to your climate though, also don't forget that they take one year before producing
>>2191223I'm in a temperate climate, so pigs are good right? Aurochs give leather but they're way worse for meat. I can just use fabrics for clothing and buy leather as necessary.
How does making armies even work>Build a training ground, set to max, have like 50 people which is enough for one unit apparently. Workers train until like... 1 of them is trained, then all of a sudden they stop while 49 still need training>Military depot won't gather the falx i got as a gif even though they're within radius and i even issued a pull orderHow does literally any of this work?
>>2191397Depots only work when your army is on the world map to send them supplies, just keep your military supplies in a warehouse nearbyDunno what's wrong with your training, never had any problems, maybe you don't have enough oddjobers or they're too busy idk
>>2191417Well that can't be the case. I had like 70 of them. Then they went down to 1 when i started training. Then all of a sudden they went back to 20.
>>2191421went back to 70*You get the point, the training made it go down, then after some time it went back up and there were still most of them untrained.
>>2191266Yeah I think pigs are best in temperate climate, if you think they have bad production maybe you built them on bad soil? Pastures are better on the richest soil, they have a huge bonus to moisture so you can build them in places with good soil but far from water. Just check the tooltips on one of your pasture to see the bonusesI hope the dev hits 1.0 soon, mechanics changing every version is super confusing
>Finally manage to get troops trained>Equip them with Falx and Leather armor>Raider with only 45 (less than half) attacks me>"Alright, time to try out">Manage to envelop bandits entirely>Still get completely slaughtered and loseHow the fuck does this work? I know they did equip it.Man, the worst thing about this game is how they tell you NOTHING. They tell you ABSOLUTE FUCK-ALL.
>>2185287skill issue
>>2191645git gud lmaoOr buy real armor mbRaiders tend to have real armor and decent training, you need to put everyone in squads and overwhelm them with your shitty militia until you have dedicated full time soldiers with good training 45 is a lot for the first raid though
>>2191645Did you check how much equipment they have? You can add more armour and weapons than people to increase the stats of your soldiers
Is it worth farming now or should I be importing all my raw materials?
>>2192062Edit your terrain with devmode so you have a lot of rich soil and it will be.
Space needed to feed 25 people>2x 20x30 lizard pastures>2x 20x30 pig pastures>2x 20x30 mushroom houses>1x 10x20 grain farmEvery time I think of doing anything but grain runs the sheer size of everything else puts me off
>>2192598Why can't you be like grain?
>>2192598The game feels very annoying to play now. I used to just get vassals to give me food and then blast research, complex industry, admin and army. Now it feels like you can't do much.
>>2192800Well, what can you do? There's nothing else that plays similar enough to this. You have ancient city builders, sure but they're just the "drop this premade building down and grow the city, that's it" kindNothing else to really fit the ancient city-state thing
>>2192800Conquering new regions is really underwhelming, when it's AI controlled they have dozens of buildings and tons of people, but as soon as you take over you get 4 shitty building and everyone just fucking die
>>2192804The autist game developer paradox. The autism that motovates a dev to make a game that is better than its competitors is also the autism that makes the dev fuck it up sideways
>>2185287>Why the hell can't I get any more human immigrants in my city?Checked their loyalty score?
>>2192598but grain needs to be refined in to bread in another building, doesn't that make it balanced?
>>2198085Anon, the issue isn't that grain is OP, it's that everything else sucks when it shouldn't.
dumb question, but how do I deploy and control my army inside my own city? (to deal with raiders). There is only a button to deploy them on the world map.
>>2198085Nowhere near since you only need 3-4 people for a grain farm of that size and need a lot more for the other food sourcesGrain to bread is still a lot more efficient with manpower as well.Hell, you can even throw in the wood choppers for your wood uptake and it's still not close
>>2198514Grain farm - 3 workersBakery - 2 workersWoodcutter - 1 workerCharcoaler - 1 workerSame amount of food by any of the other means, 12-14 peopleGrain uses 1/6th of the land and almost half of the manpower>But what about the food variety bonus?Basically neglibleEspecially considering you can give them 1.5x the amount of food for the same bonus while still using less manpower and space.
>>2198431Somewhere on the top right iirc
>>2185287im sorry devs this export depot menu is confusing and retarded and hard to read
>>2198545So what did he try to avoid people doing to make Grain so damn dominant? Feels like everytime something gets nerfed is because he's pissed that they're doing something he doesn't like.
>>2200773Yeah pretty much, from what ive heard the dev nukes anything that might give you an edge over the bland monotonous gameplay loop
>>2209133He does, but its more that I don't know what prompted every single pasture getting fucked. They used to be pretty okay, but nothing special.
>>2200773It might be that he's trying to go for the "accuracy" angle. Europeans ate roughly a kilo of bread every day prior to the industrial revolution. Grains became so dominant because they were the easiest solution to feed the masses.
>>2216745That's basically how my human city runs. Bulk bread with some other stuff for flavor, shedeh from orchards to wash it down. People are happy enough with it.
>>2216745The issue with that accuracy is that it also doesn't work with the way the game is made. Do you think that farmers had a kajillion mini cities with temples, bathhouses and markets on the edge of every teeny tiny farmplot that could feed like maybe half the population of said village at full capacity? The fact that moisture results in low fertility is also insanely stupid. Does he think that the land around the Nile was desert or something?
