Pax Romana will have multiplayer (https://www.ubisoft.com/en-sg/news/ignt.55700/multiplayer-and-co-op-in-anno-117-pax-romana) so if you don't mind Maximus Ebonicus, you can play that when it comes out.There's also Northgard, which is a colony-builder flavored RTS.

I boiled it down to time consumption, it takes many hours for a game of anno, as opposed to rts games.
