New DLC is out. DiscussWhich way anon, tech billionaire or temporally displaced nobleman?
As much as I like their games the combat system is pure jank. It's almost impossible to tell how effective unit will be without a lot of empirical testing.
>>2187805The scion's bonuses sound pretty interesting. Units get cheaper each duplicate you produce but they all have a random debuff from being pushed off the line as fast as possible. I kind of like that flavour.
We need DLC that goes beyond simple faction packs. There needs to be greater distinction between the three alignment types, and maybe be more restrictive about either adhering to a single alignment or undergoing some sort of hybridization process. As it stands, pretty much anyone can be anything, in a way. Which is a shame because I fucking ADORE the setting; the lore, art, and even the baseline concept are cool as fuck.
>>2188528I'm waiting for an expansion that adds combined units and techs. There's loads of potential for things that have 2 of each and will give some of the leaders sitting in the middle of 2 alignments greater use.
>From the developers of Warhammer 40,000: Gladius, ZEPHON is a post-apocalyptic 4X strategy game built on Proxy’s unique tactical combat system.Damn, so it's a combat focused 4X like Gladius? That's a shame, the setting seems like it could be really cool.
>>2188664How would you make it less combat focused in such a horribly hostile setting?
>>2188664You can just bunker up and wait for the apocalypse to end. Your first few games will be picking a side between the rogue AI or the Aliens and trying to get an edge in the eventual final battle but you can just ignore them and destroy the victors last doomsday weapon
>>2188719I guess I phrased that poorly, it's not like I have an issue with combat focused 4X, I just really dislike the combat in Gladius; It just felt so clunky, like those old WW2 TBS game but without any sense of tactics or scale.
>>2188543Feels like it really does need a "Rising Tide" expansion so that there is actually a reason to mix tech. As it is you may as well just pre-select a faction and anything else is just window dressing.
>>2190087Yep, exactly what I was thinking about. Great expansion for a shit game and the only reason I ever think about wanting to replay it.
>>2188528>As it stands, pretty much anyone can be anything, in a way.I felt like the opposite was true. The disparate production lines for each technology path force you to pick one fairly early and punish venturing out of your lane quite harshly. Dipping into a different tech line means you need to research and build new production and resource buildings before you're even in a place to get the actual unit or operation you want. It's easier to just build more of what you have - nothing in the other technology paths is so essential you can't make up for it with more stuff. The one exception was taking a dip for medics as Voice, because when I last played that let you add damage reduction on literally every unit.>>2188543>>2190087I don't have much hope because they seem to be wedded to their DLC model of small (but priced at 1/3 of the base game, lol) interchangeable DLC items . There's not much transformational you can do when releasing content like that unless you're willing to release some substantial free patches at the same time.
>>2190845>I don't have much hopeNeither. Gladius has a pretty consistent daily peak of about 1000 players. So that DLC structure suits it pretty well, especially since it's the 40k fanbase buying the DLC. Zephon struggles to get 100 players a day so I can't imagine anyone is buying its DLCs. They'll stop making them after 1 or 2 more I imagine or go all in on a bigger one to market the game.
>>2190905Looking at the steam charts Gladius didn't hit 1k daily numbers until after it had a lot of bundles and free-to-keep events so they may not represent more potential full-price DLC buyers. Admittedly, it also had an release peak which was twice as high as Zephon.I do think DLC is where Zephon is most likely to underperform but that's mainly because I think 40k players are a lot more willing to put up with spending big on microtransactions moreso than player counts.>They'll stop making them after 1 or 2 more I imagine or go all in on a bigger one to market the game. This sounds like a very good prediction.
>>2187805What is this game?
>>21979124X game in a postapocalyptic setting where the earth got ruined by an eldritch alien invasion which has bogged down fighting a self-aware AI with humans stuck in the middle.
>>2190905I've liked Zephon when it came out, still like it and plan to buy DLCs. However, as true as your statement seems to be, I think you underestimate how cheap these DLCs really are. Designing a new Leader is basically modding at this point, a little bit of art and text, modifiers... I guess the new units take work when they add them, but I don't think it's a big financial drain. In any case the game deserves success, if nothing for the very unique setting. However, I also haven't been playing it for months even though I like(d) it, I was waiting for more content. As much as I loved Gladius and like Zephon I think now the pricing for the DLCs is a bit to high as well. A whole faction like Drukhari is what, 15 euros? You get two leaders in Zephon for 12. That seems a bit disproportional. Still, the game is very niche, but they did get some eurobux for development so it's hard to tell how lucrative it is.
>>2199488They really wanted to combine the prices of the DLC unit packs, and the faction packs of Gladius into one.
>>2187805I want to like Zephon, but something about the 3 factions not being somewhat more exclusive means that some games I've ended up just mish mashing human/voice/and tech units in to shore up downsides each have. Doubly so when they only really play differently based on the leader choice, of which many are using the race specific mechanics from Gladius. I dunno, it's technically an improvement over Gladius in a lot of ways, but having more distinct races to play there feels better than this "build a bear" style they have going on now.
>>2199488I may be a dipshit, but don't the DLCs also add a bunch of units, items, music, missions and stuff? I know the leaders are the focus, but I genuinely don't remember the caitiffs or the rangers from my most recent game on previous patches. Also speaking of being a dipshit, do I need to have a research lab for the Heartless Artificer's faction quest? For some reason the operation didn't show up, and I was wondering if it's because I didn't build a lab or if it was just a bug and I can't find any sort of quest guide anywhere.
>>2199488>>2202854I'm also apparently illiterate since you already mentioned units in your original post.
>>2187805the new units in this pack are much more functional than the previous dlccyber is actually playable now
>>2204851Cyber is broken now.
