I started Jagged Alliance 2 at least 12 to 20 times at various points in my lifetime.I never got past the first four towns or so. I only finished the game once when I snuck into the final time and solo killed Deidranna. Are there any good tips & tricks to keep in mind for tactically challenged players? Is it possible to finish the game while letting the auto-battle resolve all the militia fights? I hated the militia fights.
Yeah, same. It just gets dull after a while (enemies take so long with their turns, and there are many chores to put up with), and if I stop playing for a while, I have no idea what I was doing and no motivation to continue. Also, I got burned trying that unofficial patch. The only JA I finished is. ironically. the Unfinished Business expansion. My favorite was JA1, tho.
>>2196148This isn't a real strategy game >>>/vrpg/
>>2196187Kek. They don't consider it a real RPG, either.
>>2196187JA2 is the quintessential strategy game with RPG elements. Your *player skill* as a strategist is way more important to your success than your individual characters' skills.
>>2196148Yeah I never bother with Militia fights, just train up your guys past green level and let them auto resolve while retreating your squads. Also bring lots of mortars and LAWs for Meduna and try and get as many attachments as you can because a CAWS with a gun barrel extender, rod and spring, laser scope, and scope is a monster. I'd also recommend periodically checking Tony's gun shop for attachments and rare items, checking Balime for ceramic plates and regen boosters to keep your men alive and have less downtime healing between battles, and trying to get Skyrider ASAP for the quick movement when the ground vehicles don't cut it.
>>2196148Same I always die before I get an assault rife because all my dudes miss their shots. I shoot out of effective range because the enemies would just Merc me close range. I go behind rocks and trees and still doesn't work out. Idk how people say this game is easy. Definately not going to try 1.13 until I can get this right.
>>2196148>Are there any good tips & tricks to keep in mind for tactically challenged players?be very descriptive in your save file names. you're more likely to abandon a game if you forget what you were planning to do>Is it possible to finish the game while letting the auto-battle resolve all the militia fights?as long as you train them to regular militia levelif you don't have enough militia trained to cover the whole town and you see an enemy patrol is about to assault a sector, you can shuffle them and move your best militia to the sector in jeopardy>>2196265>trying to get Skyrider ASAP for the quick movement when the ground vehicles don't cut itto this point: try to get both the ice cream truck and the hummer as early as possible, they're an insane mobility improvement, especially if you operate multiple squads at different locations
>>2196538>Same I always die before I get an assault rife because all my dudes miss their shots.make sure your mercs are actually healed and not just bandaged (health bar red and not split between pink and red). injured mercs get a lot of penalties to everything, on top of just being closer to dying>I shoot out of effective range because the enemies would just Merc me close range.you really should shorten the distance to be in range of your weaponsconsider flanking or baiting enemies around corners of buildingsalso if you're low on weapons, you can try hand-to-hand combat - it's very easy to just steal weapons off knocked out enemiesjust remember to press R to run instead of just walking
>>2196538The accuracy penalty is exponential past the effective range. Are you using the LOS and cover display buttons when playing? Delete and End will display the cover and LOS for your currently selected merc in their current stance based on the enemies you can currently see and when holding those buttons you can press + and - on your keyboard to increase the display radius so I would recommend maxing out the display of it. There's generally (but not always) an MP5 in the factory in Drassen, or you can recruit someone like Lynx or Gus for one day when starting the game just to have a starting long arm to help deal with the early game. And once you get scopes your accuracy will improve massively with every aim level used.
>>2196882That's 1.13 talk pal.
I don't like all the stupid pouches that look similar but some can hold gun/ammo/anything in one slot and some that also give one slot in the same position can only hold ammo.
>>2197524vanilla/straciatella does not have this probleminventory is just 8 small and 4 big slots
>>2196148>RangeGet any costly merc with rifle for 24 hoursYou can use them to take first town and then take both their decentish armor and rifles for avatar/other mercsShooting with pistols is waste of timeMake your avatar have night vision+ and do attacks at night
>>2196187KEK
>>2196995I don't play 1.13, the cover and LOS displays have been in the game since Gold/UB
>>2196187It's literally a regime change simulator. That's strategic.
Is the game antisemitic?
>>2196538just get a machine pistol or shotgun and camp doorwaysfree equipment will be delivered, just need to apply some lead
What are the top 10 balance changes and/or QoL changes you would like to see in "Jagged Alliance 2: Definitive Edition" (the AI upscaled 60 fps graphics version of Jagged Alliance 2 that will release in 2035)?
Does the Jagged Alliance 2 Enhanced Edition have cheevos? No point in me trying to beat an old ass hard game if it ain't got no cheevos so I can show off to my fellow gamer friends.
I bet all the people who thought he was based growing up hate him now.
>>2229719I do actually. Igor is vastly superior when leveled up.
>>2196538maybe it's worth doing stuff like suppressing the enemy and then flanking them while they're pinned down
>>2229719>>2229836you are all punk-ass bitchest. Steroid
>>2208595Just off the top of my head while I push a log out. I know 1.13 addresses some of this stuff but 1.13 is for fags- make shotguns and pistols more useful- clearly address what is and isnt destructible- markers for roaming merchants/carmen. it's somewhat annoying running around town to town with a decapitated head-implement suppression, which was basically the only good thing 1.13 did
Is JA 3 a good game? Is it worth playing?I heard people like it, but it disappeared from radars too fast like nobody cared.
>>2196148i play the first militia fight and pretty much auto resolve all the rest unless i have my mercs in the area
>>2245833its a good game but it lacks the beauty of ja2. its better than every other attempt at replicating ja2 tho
>>2245833Wasn't for me. Braindead combat and very forgettable setting with tiny ass zones.
>>2197770How do you get enough ammo to do anything when all the starting enemies only have pistols
>>2247778Pistols are definitely not a waste but that said knifing or grabbing one of those 9mm HK SMGs works fine too.
>>2245817>- make shotguns and pistols more useful>- clearly address what is and isnt destructibleWhy are these things bad?
>>2245817>markers for roaming merchants/carmenif you talk to Frank from San Mona, he might give a hint where Carmen isotherwise, it makes sense for such characters not to have their location known
>>2247773Literally me the one time I finished Jagged Alliance 2 with cheat engine and my gigachad all maxxed out literally me self insert
>>2248721>cheat engineReal men punch ice cream trucks for 40 minutes.
>>2247773every time i see this i want to do a replay.i don't think there is any other game that has such a perfect endgame as ja2, when you finally invade meduna with wveryone and everything you have.
>>2248292it is somewhat annoying to autistically set up all your mercs ready to breach some corner of a building and the dynamite/rdx doesnt make a dent>>2248660not a bad point, i guess i agree from a roleplaying perspective
yo i bought gus new timbs
>>2245817Shotguns are already good in the base game with a barrel extender. Shame most people won't figure that out their first playthrough.
>>2253496This. Everyone gangsta with 5.56 FMJ until a bunch of bloodcats or crepitus roll in.
I never finished it either but having a dedicated mortar man always seemed overpowered with how enemies tend to bunch up. Mustard gas is just hilarious.
>>2245817>Just off the top of my head while I push a log out. I know 1.13 addresses some of this stuff but 1.13 is for fagsv1.13 is the only way you can play in windowed mode, and playing in the original size on non-CRT monitors is unbearable

Ok, here's my first try of the 1.13 mod, are the settings good? I disabled the inventory system because you guys say it's bad.>forgot to press postHalf of my squad got killed as they got unloaded from the helicopter. Literally before I got my first turn. Igor got burst to death the moment he dropped on the ground. Epic. And the game keeps lagging for no reason and when the mercs move in crouched mode they always go into the danger with their butt first.
>>2257260Sounds incredibly stupid to start on hardest difficulty if you don't know the new mechanics but you do you.>tons of gunsHope you like inventory management.
>>2257268I know the mechanics from playing unmodded JA2 long ago, and I don't remember getting killed as I dropped off the helicopter before I had a chance to move.Anyway, I uninstalled v1.13 because the lagging was unbearable, I'm downloading the ice cream mod now.
>>2257273>the lagging was unbearableHaven't had the issue, ever, but good luck anon.
>>2257273Which version were you using? The latest from their github should work.
>>2257420I used the latest version from ModDB. Maybe I'll check it again because...>>2257260The highest settings on the ice cream mod were a nothingburger compared to the 1.13 easiest, you even get to move before you get shot at. But there's an ultra annoying bug.>change cursor to the prone/standup mode>game suddenly stops showing cursor movingIt happens "randomly" but 90% of the time. The only way to fix it is either restart the game or play with an invisible cursor (if you alt tab and move your cursor, it moves to the same position in the game) and hope it gets fixed on its own (happened once so far).Tried both windowed mode and full screen. Windows 11 btw.
>>2196187Not an RPG.
>>2257260>insanewhy?>disabled inventory systemthat's dumb, the inventory management becomes much more fun with it>laggingI think this was due to some lightning setting>mercs move butt firsthappens when you alt tab, just press alt againalso, I recommend getting the unstable version, I remember it fixing the lag and various crashes (unless you're already using it)https://github.com/1dot13/source/releases
>>2258990>happens when you alt tab, just press alt againYeah I know that it happens after alt tab normally but in 1.13 JA2 (latest version from ModDB) it happens automatically and me pressing alt again with the game window active doesn't stop it. Maybe because I had to run it in 16b color for windowed mode. Anyway, the other mod is much better all I need to fix is the mouse not being visible.
>>2257260>and when the mercs move in crouched mode they always go into the danger with their butt first. You probably alt tabbed and the game still thinks you're holding alt, press it again.
>>2264448See the post right above yours. In the ice cream cone mod it also does it after alt tab but if I press alt again it stops.
>>2196193JA3 was RPGCodex's 2023 GotY though...
>>2265538Oh shit, for real? I didn't even notice. I guess there wasn't much good coming out in 2023, I reckon.
>>2265704It was pretty much tied with BG3.
>>2265538>>2265794The guy fortified the election to rig it by weighting the votes, to stop BG3 from winning out of spite. I was very disappointed by BG3 and think it’s a bad game, but that was clearly a petty and bullshit thing to do.
>>2265895Who is the guy?
How do I set JA2 Stracciatella launcher to launch from steam? I’d like my hours ingame to show up on steam but changing the file name to ‘JA2’ just leads to the game crashing
>>2270597The folder name?
>>2245833It passes the "this is dogshit" bar that games past 2 set as the standard and actually came out, but it has some of nucom's problem that it went too far with video-gamey power progression, and the writing doesn't fucking work.Sometimes the game comes together in well thought-out encounters, sometimes it's just bad.
