>A Paradox game that's actually really good right at launchHoly shit how do they managed to do it, after the disasters CK3 and Vichy III still are?
>>2203055Johan autism
>>2203055It's a new method of developing games. You use your massive autistic fanbase to do all the work for you and then you sell it back to them
>>2203066Fuck it, if it turns my ideas into games, I'll pay to be an idea guy.
>>2203055>actually really good right at launchThe game is not out yet. I do not expect this to be true. It's going to be buggy as shit and everyone is going to find something wrong with it after their first couple of playthroughs. Same happened with CK3. Everyone thought that was great, then most people realised how shallow it was and stopped playing it.
>>2203055We've had sponsored reviews saying it's very unstable, AI can't play the game and that all the complexity is only surface level.
>ck3 a disaster at lunchActually ck3 was mainstream at lunch
>>2203275>that all the complexity is only surface level. It seems quite deep. It's a chimera of Imperator and vicky on steroids so there is no way it will be shallower than the avg paradox game.
>>2203055if it's so good at launch how come they've already announced a huge day patch fixing a ton of issues for tomorrow
I find it amusing how there's all these posters that totally aren't going to play the game for thousands of hours, are totally certain it's going to be horrible before it comes out, and totally don't care at all, but also totally want you to know the aforementioned.
>>2203358>seems...yeah...that's the keyword...
>>2203426It's almost as if there are a lot of people who have been burnt by Paradox launches before.
>>2203290Yea for like, 3-4 days? Then everyone saw it was barebone and badly optimized, and up to this very day still missing core features from CK2
What does the deluxe version give you? A 20% discount on three future dlc?
>>2203453>It's almost as ifStopped reading here, opinion discarded. Nothing insightful ever follows these words.
>>2203488it gives you 8 in-game models for big fancy buildings like the Colosseum.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rkzCLt2_miEit's buggy and has a shit UI (not aesthetically just genuinely shit in terms of usability), performance is not great.actual mechanics are good but it needs like 20 bug fixes and patchesbasically wait a month or two
>>2203055How is the performance on a 4gb ram laptop
>>2203055Its fucking awful though, why are you lying? the UI is ugly, not intuitive and not informative all at the same, unplayable at current stage
>>2204703>Only problem is the UISo something that can be learned, not a fundamental issue with the game
>>2203055>A Paradox game that's actually really good right at launchwhy does paradox pay a guy to shill their "games" on this board and to belittle anyone who rightly points out that anything made by paradox is utter garbage
>>2205531yes, making a good game UI can be learnedshit UI is a fundamental issue with the game
>>2206000its something that can be changed with updates, tying every part of the game through a simple mana system is something you can't fix as was obvious with eu4.
>>2203055>Holy shit how do they managed to do itThe game has been mostly finished for almost half a year with content creators getting access and giving feedback. If they'd released it 6 months ago due to pressure from the suits to get it out as quickly as possible it probably would have been full of problems. Wouldn't be surprised if Johan told the suits to fuck off.
>>2206126johan is a shareholder of pdx so he probably pushed to send it out in it's half baked state knowing that its just good enough for everyone to take the beatings until dlc fixes everything
Not playing this shit again until they fix the rancid dogshit UI and ugly 3d models
>>2203055>UIYea I don't think so.
>>2203055>Holy shit how do they managed to do itThey didn't, game's shit.
It's kino
The game has more mechanical depth at launch than CK3 does after 5 fucking years. Maybe Retardadox has the capacity to learn after all
>have some leftover levies from a war that I was autocalled into>can't start a war unless I disband the levies NIGGA IT'S PRECISELY BECAUSE I HAVE LEVIES THAT I WANT TO START A WAR AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH
Pic unrelated?
How come every opm can afford all those buildings, how can I as a OPM can do the same?
$59.99 for a beta test shit game with mana? no thanks. let me know when there's a decent torrent though
>>2206373>game gets uploaded to the page I always use for pirating shit>virus detected according to virus total
>mfw im slowly realizing that the game is somehow less complex and dynamic than I:R while being four time as cumbersome and obscure
>>2203055>boot the game up>start as Naples>no idea what to do firstAh yes, it really as a new paradox game. Can't wait till my retarded self can finally grasp it. Been looking forward to this all day kek
>>2206386Automate trade, then build buildings and increase rg's to win
What a shit fucking game. It's too bad the developers of Magnus Mundi turned out to be retarded. That would have been a good game. Maybe. Once again, it seems like I will just keep playing EU3.
How do I get my peasants to promote to laborers?
is there any reason to not grant every request for this? It just seems like free money
>>2206379Yeah this game doesn't feel deep at all, there's just so many more fucking buttons and options and shitMana is unironically better
>>2206489you can check what the landgraviate does
>>2206482Build buildings that will hire laborers. I think they will not promote if there are no jobs for them in the next class in that location
>>2206501You are actually just not smart enough. It is deeper than either EU4 or Imperator and it's not even close
>>2206505I don't see any downside for meso I guess it's just free money
>>2206519That's like saying EU4 trade is deepSure, but I don't have to interact with it and easily win
>>2206526Yeah if you use the automation training wheels for everything IE let the AI play the game for you
>>2206526the automation button is there so you dont get filtered by the complexity
Is there a way to prevent the big nation tooltip thing from popping up just by you mousing over the country? Fucking annoying as fuck

>>2206635Oh thank fuck, didn't immediately find it the first time, thanks
Why did they make the game take up so much resources?
>>2206658vicky 3 economic autism + eu4 1 million countries autism +ck2 3d model and personalities autismautism cubed
>>2206666It's a shame that you can't play it on a shitty laptop like when traveling or whatever.
>>2206658vs EU4
>>2206658Runs shockingly well on my M4 Mac
>>2206707Still a huge RAM requirement though.
>>2206658My spec:Radeon RX 5500 XT 4GBI5 12400 16GB RAMgood SSDAnyone with a similar config can let me know if its running well? The processor is above the minimun requirements but the GPU and ram are lacking, i'am afraid to buy it
>>2206710Yea, honestly you could get away with 16gb of ram if the rest of your specs are up to par (a decent GPU with 8gb vram). But the days of running Grand Strategy games from a shitass 2012 laptop are over
>>2206726If you don't care about the new 3D modeled map, and are fine with sticking to the old EU4 style map, then those specs should be good. Otherwise, that is not going to be enough anon. I have a MBP 2019 16 inch with similar specs, even down to the GPU with an older i9 and that shit crashes hard if I turn on the 3D map.
>>2206538>>2206543You don't have to automate anything, the game is going to be "click best button" for 100 fucking buttons and that's itThere being more buttons doesn't make the game more complex
>>2206732im curious how you would make a game more complex without doing that
>Trade tutorial>We recommend you keep this automated until you have more experience with the gameSo can any of you guys tell me how to actually curb the market?
>>2206737Look at Vicky 2, there is far more depth without there being nearly as many choices and optionsParadox games as of late are the epitome of "wide as an ocean, shallow as a puddle". I could totally be wrong but this game just feels too easy, maybe some nations are railroaded into being fucked, but the average nation has easy steps (that are always more or less the same) to take to reach powerhouse status. Which, granted, is just like EU4. But to pretend this is super fucking complicated and complex when it's just bloated in terms of options is silly.
>>2206746What exactly makes Vic2 deep without needing choices?
>>2206754I can press the epic grossgermanium button and own the libs
>>2203055The UI is such a piece of shit.
So, uh, is there really only one start date
Is there no monarch power in EU5?
like how the fuck can georgia a kingdom of this size and population not field 100 fucking soldier in 3 yearsi dont think this game is for me even with the more realistic army sizes at least could fucking field an army from the get go and start attacking shit and not have to wait to build a fucking recruiting stand only in the capital and then wait a year to establish a standing army of 100 men equipped with clubsi might genuinely be too retarded for this style of game
Buildings are overwhelming me.
>>2206844Shirvan declared war on me with ... 0 armies and all my vassals instantly popped out 1k armies? Are these all mercenaries or something? I am at a fucking loss really
>>2206746sounds like you're just talking about how incompetent the AI is. For example if you play novgorod you rely on demand for fur in europe, when westoids eventually colonize canada they will end your monopoly on the fur trade and fuck your economy. All the mechanics are in place to do this the AI is just too lobotomized to realize the potential of the simulation. Another example would be the fall of venice when portugal makes their way to india, making the silk road obsolete but the portuguese AI is too retarded to do that.
How the fuck can I "gain production goods" with holland.Been staring at importing extra wood and fiber, I maxed out paper production, they're all set to fiber+wood = paper. Is the mission bugged?
it's genuinely so fucking good. I've been playing all day and just getting into the micro as brandenburg as much as possible and immersing. the steam threads about goi4 niggers complaining about how complex it is is the cherry on top. like for real I will genuinely be playing this for the next decade. bravo johan
>>2206707are you running it through crossover or something?
>>2206858yeah there needs to be a strong economic pressure that drives what the ai does instead of random blobbing against neighboring countries.
I think Paradox could do better with optimization, I have a Ryzen 7 5800x and at 5 speed it goes far too slow and the cpu usage doesn't leaves 40%
>>2206860You need to make paper. Build the "Papermaster's Guild" or whatever it's called
>>2206791unfortunately yes and it's a pretty shitty start date unless you like playing as England or France
>>2206858this is why we need some railroading, i dont think doing this organically is possible
>>2206868>rank 303do you even build bro?
>>2206844>>2206857Levies... Most countries don't have a standing army in 1337. When you go to war you raise up the able bodied men from your pops. The number of levies you raise depend on the population and how much control you have in each location. Different pops give different types of levies, like the nobles will usually send some knight cavalry. Eventually you'll be able to field professional armies.
>>2206884>this is why we need some railroading, i dont think doing this organically is possible*laughs in EU2 AGCEEP*
>>2206895>a bunch of eventsso railroading
>>2206878I've maxd out these buildings.
>>2206894I was just fucking confusedmy EU4 brain is like >mercenaries badso i tried to build my own army and since everyone else had no army i thought this is the intended way, i noticed it too on the next war i declared and rallyed the leviespretty sure the button was greyed out during peace time?i closed the game now because im about to go to bed so i cant check or if my retarded ass made it upI did the ottoman tutorial and they didnt say a thing about levies
>>2206903Do they have Burghers working in them and are they making paper? If a building isn't profitable then it won't employ workers. You can subsidize it Vicky 3 style to force it.
>>2206915Yeah -- max peeps, they're making a profit, I guess I just bugged it out I can't progress.
>>2206890I've just been figuring out how shit works properly. I haven't actually unpaused lmao
>>2206909>pretty sure the button was greyed out during peace time?Yeah I think that's right, you can only raise levies in wartime. Your standing armies are just always raised. It's borrowing a lot from Imperator: Rome with the military system, but more fleshed out
If I automate trade but my buildings and pops are still missing inputs, what should I do? Should I build more marketplaces so they can buy those goods or should I expand RGOs to produce more of those goods?
>>2206924I'm pretty convinced that the best economic thing you can do early game is to expand rgos nonstop.
Wow this is complex
>>2206924Crash prices of input RGOs (lumber, wool, clay, stone) so that production goods (silk, masonry, books) have cheaper maintenance and thus more profits. It also means that your pops are spending less on food and more on other stuff which also increases your tax income. You can also export shit of course.
>>2206902Yes.
>>2203055They did, game's good.The UI is amazing.

Why does my fucking market buy 800 food every few months.
>>2207072Because you're not automating enough. The systems weren't designed for player input.

I do think automating the budget was a huge trap as I was low on all the various mana points and low on estate stability for most of it. It's also hard knowing what buildings are actually decent to build and an order to do so in. I think next game I'll try alternating a market and an rgo back and forth until a semi stable economy is formed
So...If I have a surplus of wool as England is it better to process it straight into fine cloth or should I first turn it into cloth and then into fine cloth?

Boomer here. Something I missed since EU2 is historical rulers, I hated having random generic rulers after the start date historical rulers died. Is there any sort of option to have historical rulers back?

>>2207154designed to knee cap blobbers. The other solution is to release vassals and let them do that then intergrate them later

>>2207157Yea they don't really like blobbers in this game.
>>2207157I did that but it released the entire province, which I started with and was cored, when I just wanted to release one location from it and merge it with another location. It's a struggle.

This is just a matter of my own tastes but..... ffs I hate all the spreadsheet bullshit. This is not EU5. This is Vicky3.5. That's fine if you like Vicky games, but it kinda misses the 'point' of what EU is supposed to be. EU3 and EU4 were map painters of the first order, but this shit is just a tedium simulator.I'm glad they added all the "automation" stuff but honestly, after setting pretty much all economy stuff to auto, there's really not much else to really do. Maybe it'll grow on me with time, but after 2 sessions and 10.5 hours I'm still not 'sold' on this shit.
>>2207580>there's really not much else to really dothat's the plan, bro. all the content will be added later through $30 DLCs
I'm too retarded to make money in thisAlso I found it funny that I was giga juicing the lumber RGO (with max employment) and started building a road from the lumber to my capital and it couldn't finish because my market was missing lumber, probably something to do with the automated trade I supposeAlso no one wants to fucking ally me if I'm playing a small state, even when spending a ton of diploI give it a skill issue/10
Anyone know how to change province capital? It was possible in Imperator, but I can't find a way to do it in EUV.

>>2207849I've discovered a foolproof way to byzantine in eu3. At the game start build galleys so you outnumber the ottomans by a few and then blockade the straits while all their armies are busy fighting the Timur. Won't work well in your run cause you already hold land in Asia which will cause attrition if turks occupy itBut since you control it, you can hire turkish infantry which is better than byzantine's at the game startMorale is goodMan just how simple eu3 is compared to 5
>>2207910Thanks.>Then just max out free trade and do whatever you wantIsn't mercantilism better in the long run? Reconquering the Balkans and Anatolia, then setting up CoT in Constantinople, which would steer a lot of trade away from Venice and give an immense bonus to province population growth?
>>2207944>But since you control it, you can hire turkish infantry which is better than byzantine's at the game startSo I did, but Ottomans have allied themselves with the Mamluks, so right now they outnumber me 2.5 to 1. So i won't be able to play for a month or two. Now i'm wondering if we're likely to see it EUV with a little discount for the December steam sale?
>>2208056just pirate it in a few years with dlc
>>2207093Pretty much, its a giant incestous mess, EU4 had a mod called MEIOU+Taxes which is two mods from the EU3 days ported to EU4. This mod added in estates, pops and other shit but since it was a mod it was horrifyingly slow and janky since EU4 just couldnt be pushed that hard.
>>2207944>Man just how simple eu3 is compared to 5and yet better in all the right ways
>>2208064What's funny is that the M&T devs said they had no idea what to do now as they're abandoning M&T 3.0, but don't have a niche or anything new to add in EUV.
>>2208064Magna Mundi remains the best mod for eu3, just don't ask about their attempt to make their own game.
>>2207956>>2207910Mercantilism is alright for empires cause when you'll get bigger you'll have plenty of your own trade centers. It also gives you spies and spy protection.I don't remember well what perks free trade has other than letting you compete in foreign markets. Which is especially good for smaller nations but shouldn't be a priority for byzantine. Focus on centralization first, it's always good.CoTs are strong, you get 5 ducats monthly just from other countries' traders. And that's not counting the tax bonus and your own traders' profit.Come to think of it, that fleet trick might still work if you release your asian holdings as vassals. You'll have to consider Mamluk's fleet too. I just don't know if it's too much for Byzantine to handle

>>2206658will it run on i5 4440? i assume not
>>2208524>>2208385Also, while the game not being a dumbed down manafest is nice, I think they kinda overshot and ended up with something that kinda lacks "narrative". So many systems are so intertwined and complex (especially with all the Situations and international organizations) it's kinda hard to figure out what is even happening.Trade/production is micromanagement to the extreme, and half the time I couldn't get the stuff my pops keep whining about. My income seems to be constantly fluctuating widely with no real input on my part. The estates are better than the interest groups Vic3 had at launch but they're so rigid and annoying and just act as roadblocks to actually DOING anything. The proximity/control system makes conquering anything pretty much useless past a certain size. So in practice what you're actually doing for 80% of the time is kinda tweaking around the edges and putting out little bushfires in your economy while waiting for income/stability to rise.A lot of the really "big" stuff only happens on the scale of centuries. Like, you can't just "focus" or "specialize". It's all stuff that happens out of a million little decisions you make throughout the game.By the time you do see your values shift or pops being integrated/converted or whatever it never feels like a big payoff to major choices you've made, like it was with picking specific idea groups in EU4. It just feels like the "natural" way things would've gone, and that my actions are being molded by the state of the country rather than the other way around.I guess that's all very true to real history but.... it's not very fun to play. I don't think they need to dumb anything down and if anything it's probably me who still has a long way towards gitting gud, but I wish they'd do something to kinda "bundle" a lot of the systems into bigger and more comprehensible chunks. I think some UI tweaks would help a lot with that, but that'll take some months/years/DLCs.

>Although the Byzantine troops that captured Italy called themselves Romans, many inhabitants of the city had a deep-seated mistrust of Greeks, and Hellenistic influence more generally.[4] Before long, the citizens of Rome petitioned Justinian to recall Narses (who captured Rome in 552), declaring that they would rather still be ruled by the Goths.[5] Anti-Byzantine sentiment could also be found throughout the Italian peninsula, and reception of Greek theology in Latin circles was more mixed.[6]oh but that greek state that was distrusted and disliked by ROME was definitely a roman successor state

The East never spoke Latin en masse but they were part of the empire before even Gaul and the Greeks had heavy influence on classical Romans. >>2209898You can do that if you just want to make the most profitable trades in the short term. But if you're trying to make a particular good cheaper or more expensive in your market (or someone else's market for that matter) then you might not want the most profitable option.

>>2208614>it's not very fun to playYou've failed to ascend. Meanwhile, I'm busily drilling grand strategy mechanics into Kenshi so the game can play itself while I run around and watch the world slowly change (read: the empire usually wins). If I learned anything from my time spent with that game it's that gameplay is truly secondary to how well the environment pulls the player into the unfolding narrative. If you do not give a shit about what's going on then odds are the gameplay amounts to noise and frustration whilst waiting for the fun to come. If you aren't invested in what you're doing you'll probably turn the game off and post a bunch of butthurt about how your time was wasted. Maybe the game isn't fun - and maybe you lack inspiration (or worse, imagination). Find what appeals to you... which could be not this game, i.e., a waiting simulator.

Game is fun but its a hot mess. UI is messy and performance issues out the ass.I've already had an ironman save get corrupted and another normal game save as well, where the game just stops time on 8am. In the latter save, I had this weird issue where it would skip from 19:00 straight to 08:00 next day, including on the speed 1, effectively making the days on EU-Earth 11 hours long. Haven't been able to play more than 100 years.

>Loads into the main menu but isn't loaded sufficiently to start loading a saveI have never seen another game do this in my life. What the fuck?
>>2212875It's more like 10 years retard
>>2214066Only in the early game
>>2214066>>2214447the original anon was probably trying to annex Moravia immediately after starting as BohemiaTakes a while because of the relative strength/size at the start.
>>2212577They're exactly the same except:Vassals give +0.01 monthly prestige and your institutions spread +20% faster to them.Fiefdoms don't give any prestige at all, but they get institutions +50% faster. In practice a fiefdom is probably better to have for close vassals you're thinking of annexing in the future. You don't want to annex a vassal only to find out you lost like 20% progress towards Printing Press.I think/hope they buff that +0.01 prestige thing, or at least make is scale according to the vassal's great power score or something. As it is vassals are almost always the worse option unless you're playing a european country and conquered some land in north africa or something like that.I guess it also works if you're using one as buffer state/march and want to cockblock your rival, but that is so situational I don't think anyone's gonna make that sort of decision.
It's really growing on me. It was really annoying in the beginning but I think I'm getting the hang of it. It's actually fun now that I halfway know what I'm doing.
>>2214494No. I am talking about ~1600, Vassals/Fiefdoms that are a tenth of my size take upwards to 20-50 years to annex because of cultural difference/traditionhas nothing to do with size, army or economy
>>2214871sounds like you should be improving your culture then
>>2214937largely outside of your control
>>2214615same here, it was harder for me to get into at first since it felt impossible to make money but now that I'm getting a grasp on what to prioritize or compromise on I'm really enjoying ittrying multiplayer today so we'll see how bad the desyncing is
>>2214937And er, how does one do that?
>>2214969You cant. There is one or two techs that give you like +1 or something, but its negligible. The option to "invest in culture" has nothing to do with investing in your actual culture and just improves prestige which does not translate into annexation power. So the argument still stands. The longer the game goes, the harder it becomes to expand and get new provinces.
>>2214969more artists
tard here which cunt should i start with ;D ?
>>2214969>>2214965Works of art, retards
>>2214969besides artists you can also work on integrating other cultures into your culture, conquering minorities and expelling them to lower-literacy tags, looting works of art from other tags, anything that negatively impacts other cultures' tradition growth
>>2213927Is there a way to do this as a startup option?
>>2203055By taking all the good devs away to a different country and leaving the shit ones back in Sweden with Fred Wesker
>>2215045Start with one of the recommended nations and do the tutorial missions. That'll get you started. Naples is a good one, can't speak for the others yet.
>>2215295Unfortunately it seems the only way is to manually do it every time until someone creates a mod for it.
>enforce religion on subject>they immediately convert back what the fuck
>>2215852>France joined on my sidelmao you're gigafucked now, Specs
>don't have kids for 35 years>60+ year old wife starts popping them out againhmmm
>>2214969At some point you can directly invest money in culture too, it's a renaissance tech>>2215298Outmatched, outsmarted
>>2211321>They shouldn't even be playable tbqhThere's far too many posts in these threads about how the indians are too difficult to play as.>uhh why don't they have technological parity with Europe?>uhh why can't I centralize my state and resist the invasion after 95% of my population dies? Not to mention the guy who said he doesn't play the game and just comes to /vst/ threads to spam his bullshit. It's fucking stupid and Paradox needs to ignore them.
>turn Brandenburg into a vassal so they'll develop the land for me >check in 100 years later>their provinces are the lowest development in the known world>barely anyone can read>filled with pr*testantswhat the fuck happened
