Is polytopia the only halfway decent mobile strategy game? I know the entire mobile market is cancer but there's gotta be something else I can play on my phone during breaks or when I'm taking a shit at work
All the other "strategy" games I see on the app store are p2w gacha trash. I made the mistake of installing Age of Empires mobile, it reeked of chinkslop
There's Total War: Empire. It even got a mobile-exclusive expansion recently.
>>2227890The paid Kairosoft titles are good if you're into management games. Had a lot of fun with the F1 and baseball ones
Rusted Warfare for chill SupCom-style turtling.
polytopia is comfy as hellunciv is a very big and active open source remake of civ 5
>>2227890>but there's gotta be something else I can play on my phone during breaks or when I'm taking a shit at workAnon... your mobile can emulate PS1/DS/etc games, even if it's a shitty one. Maybe higher console and their catalog if it's a recent one. That mean at minimum WCII, RA1, C&C, FFT, etc.Grab RetroArch on the appstore, grab roms/iso on Vimm and stop bothering with mobile-first games. There is also an opensource android version of HoMM3, although it's designed for tablet iirc.
>>2228398The Kairosoft titles are far better then you'd expect from those graphics but they do scratch a particular itch. I'd even recommend them on steam.
>>2227947And Medieval 2, the fucking mobile ports are actually optimized and updated compared to pc wtf is thus
>>2227890I love Polytopia so much. Been playing on and off since 2018 lmao. It’s a total vibe. I think some of the total war games have mobile ports, but mobile only/first strategy games, it’s basically Polytopia as the only decent one desu. I just wished the dlc purchases would carry over from android to iOS.
Iron Marines 1 and 2 were good fun. But don't bother buying them, better get them on Play Pass to have all the paywalled stuff unlocked. Anyway, the Pass is a good way to access a bunch of good games without having to buy them.
>>2227890If you like card games, Forge is good. It's a free open source Magic The Gathering game with a RPG/adventure/Shandalar mode.
>>2228415>>2232449Favorite tribe in polytopia?
>>2227890Civ 5 for Java phones
We had a thread not too long ago.I will post all I got on my Gayphone>FTL>Darkest Dungeon>Invisible Inc.>Kingdom Two Crowns>XCOM:EW>Total War Battles: Shogun (avoid main titles on phone, they control like shit)>Iron Marines>The Bonfire 2>Bad North>Rebel Inc.>Civ Rev via DS emulator>Advance Wars via GBA emulator>XCOM 2>ST:Frontiers>Final Outpost DE>Siege UP>Rebel Cops>This War of Mine>Sigma Theory>Stick War Legacy>Tropico>Hex of Steel>Panzer MarshalIf you can run 32 bit apps since you're on older ios then also>Warhammer 40k Armageddon>Sid Meier's Pirates
>>2233885actually haven't played since 2021 but i think>free: baldur is the strongest option right>p2w: luxidoor for stacking defense iirc? and coolest city aesthetic >special p2w: they're all great but turtle poseidon and dragon are my favorite special units and their overall tribe aesthetics look cool. ice and caterpillar slop have cool abilities but they're definitely more ugly
>>2233885Hoodrick all day. Won many online matches with them
>>2227890there's mobile ports of openxcom although for some reason, the intro seem to speed up
>>2227890Somewhat unrelated, Stick Wars (the old flash games) have mobile games and it appears to be popular among zoomers.
>>2227890>Boring ass weekend in a student cabin innawoods>Nowhere to go, since shit weather, but stuck there already>Some freshman takes out his phone and asks if we want to play a hot seat strategy gam with him>Never heard about the game, never owned a smartphone, but there is nothing else to do, as I forget to bring cards>It's some Civ clone for mobiles, so I say yes>Despite playing it blind, I still trash everyone else in the cabin, including the freshman, because I'm playing Civ since 2 came out>But I gain new players to play Civ and SMAC withIt's been six years and I still have people that want to play Civ and Civ-like games with me because of that stint, so I'm not complaining
>>2228469Your fingers slide all over the touchscreen, which is not good for games meant to be played with fingers firmly in place on physical buttons.
I picked up Ozymandias a few days ago, it's a rather simplistic 4X. So far it feels like a more sophisticated version of Antiyoy, and I don't hate it overall.
>>2227890>4X>No stupid 5% modifiers>No stupid gimmicks except for special tribes>Only pure strategy and forward thinkingIt's simplicity makes it unironically better than recent Civs.
>>2242224Love the soundtrack in this game. Extremely comfy.
>>2244216It was. I ended up playing quite a bit yesterday and today. Always nice to find games that are simple mechanically yet with a decent level of strategic depth.
>>2241300unfathomably based, also most zoomers grew up on stick wars millenioid
>>2242224I have the PC version, I was afraid the text might be too small on the mobile port, or is it fine?
>>2227890Slay the Spire is on android so no.
>>2250414Which text do you think would look small? Since you handle stuff mostly with these icons and tabs the game isn't exactly text heavy, is it? I guess the tutorial text might be small, here's a screenshot I took. I'm not farsighted so I could read everything just fine, though.
If you have a Netflix subscription you can play Civ 6 for free on your phone. The downside is you'd be playing Civ 6
Has anyone tried Rebel Inc? It's by the Plague Inc devs but apparently about counter insurgency or something like that
>>2270814I just completed a run and didn't dislike it. Mostly an idle game where you spend money on a couple dozen civic, government and military projects, occasionally move some troops around to stall, encircle and eradicate enemies, while dealing with issues like public support, reputation and corruption. One remarkable thing I noticed is the low battery drain. I played various minimalistic games and not all of them were as well optimized as this.
>>2271930I played some more and by now I do dislike it. Each run you press the same buttons, deal with the same issues, play whack-a-mole with terrorists, all so that you could lose for a different reason.
>>2270814What the other anon said - each mission has exactly one playthrough. The first one. Most missions play the exact the same, the ones that don't only adds boring clutter to the standard procedure and it's very boring very fastt. didn't play it since 2020
>>2270814Lots of fun on Brutal difficulty. Played long enough to unlock everything thats free and stella'd all thats locked behind paywall.Campaign also adds various special parameters to already existing missions as well as forces you to juggle your advisors so you can't keep the winning combo all the time.Golden sands is THE hardest mission in the game.Azure Dam music lives rent free in my head.Got really disappointed with their after plague game though.
I still hold that the mobile base building game genre could be good, provided someone implement it in the correct way, I'm just not sure how
Xenowerk Tactics was was pretty cool. I'd say it's a little bit like real-time Jagged Alliance 1.
