How do we feel about Falling Frontier?
A great deal of effort is going into the spatial mechanics and ship design, but there seems to be nothing about who is fighting who and why. There also seems to be very conflicting information about where it is set: older material talks about a solar system being colonized but recent videos clearly state Mars, Phobos, Deimos, Saturn, Titan, Neptune - our own solar system.I cant help but wonder if this is a game without a story.

>>2236555I could tell you, if that faggot would actually release the game or at least some news.
>>2236555Nothing, it's not a game. At this point I'm convinced the guy only rendered videos of what-could-be and pretended to have a game behind it to scam investors.
I would have a lot more faith in the game if it didn't place so much importance on looking good. Especially not with those proportions of ships compared to engagement distance.
>>2236555I feel like it isn't out yet and probably never will be.
>>2236555Looks good and hopeful but not expecting.
>>2236555looks great, however it also looked great 5 years ago. i stopped following the development. i hope it comes out, someday, especially after the whole HW3 debacle
space combat bros...what's even left for us...
>>2236555Hesitant. Seems interesting, but unfortunately I don't know if it will come out at all. Situations like Skong's "development heaven" are sadly extremely rare. Until we have some form of accessible gameplay like a demo or an Early Access release, we cannot know how the game's systems work, much less if they work properly and in a fun way.
>>2236924Some games take a longass time to develop. Work on Kenshi started in 2003, but it took 16 years to see full release, and is still woefully incomplete in some parts.
>>2236910I know. I hope it doesn't need some weird shit like an RTX Pro 6000 to run smoothly.
>>2237612suffering
>>2237742the devs just suck and the engine is disgusting
>>2237742In the case of kenshi it was just chris for the longest time and he was working on it in between his real job.
>>2236924I thought Manorlords was a scam and it came out. So I'm fine waiting for this. I think that's just the Hooded Horse business model. Solo dev has an idea and works on it for years, then they swoop in and drop a shit tonne of money and resources and the scope expands to the point where it basically goes through the development cycle again.
>>2236845its another Cyberpunk 2077?
>>2237742it is one guy in Australia doing this
>>2237612>homeworld>dead>nebulous>dying+mazers a fag for canning conquest for quasi homeworld>falling frontier>never ever>heat death>indie never everThe only sci-fi game I'm actually keen on is mars tactics cause funny fpv droneing corpos meme
>>2240954>mars tacticsthe last couple updates are pretty clear that the dev is way overreaching with the number of systems he's trying to implement. It's gonna be dev hell and when if it releases it's not gonna be fun to play
>>2240954are we just ignoring battlefleet gothic 1 & 2 for some reason?
>>2236555wake me when they release substantial new material about it
>>2241048BFGA is really just a tall ship game wearing the coat of a space game.

>>2255781You're wrong, but it wouldn't be unreasonable for someone in your position to think that, so I understand where you're coming from.
It's developed by a single autist meaning it will be a massive disappointment even if you have no exepctations.
>>2240954btw I'm pretty sure mazer trooned out
>>2257888Initial reaction is concern, but then I remember the link with autism and everything is fine again.
>>2255781>mp scum shit meta fleet fuck fest>lead dev trooned the fuck out>caved to the mp fags on canning conquest, the actually interesting game mode for the game to make >fuck it's actually just highfleet but a different gameLol no
>>2258463>fuck it's actually just highfleet but a different gamelol noit would be good if it was highfleet with neb combat
>>2258463>mp scum shit meta fleet fuck festyou say this as if this is a neb specific issue>lead dev trooned the fuck outunderstandable concern but this hasn't caused any particular damage (yet)>caved to the mp fags on canning conquest, the actually interesting game mode for the game to make the beta branch is available right there>fuck it's actually just highfleet but a different gamesimilar yes'just highfleet' no
>>2237612Distant Worlds 2Terra Invicta
>>2257888Why do these autismo devs always troon out? It's hilarious. Can someone explain the science to me?
>>2262525autismos are easily targets for grooming since they're socially retarded
>>2241086SoaSE is just Warcraft 3 in space.>>2261683Distant Worlds 2 has awful blobbing combat. Ships are too dumb in AI mode and almost impossible to micro.Honestly can't think of many good ones. Nexus, SotS 1. Starsector, if it even counts.
>>2236555How do you feel about my dick in your ass?Never heard of falling frontier tho
>>2266208I still sometimes just look at SotS2 in my steam library and just wish there was a space combat game like it but finished (and good). What a tragedy.
>>2266208>almost impossible to microIf you mean this in the sense that there's just too many fleets and targets to manage without automation mid/late game, yeah that's just the nature of that portion of the game. Once you have an economy rolling and hundreds or thousands of military ships you don't really need to care about random losses and the micro becomes ship designs and fleet configurations rather than individual battles for the most part. The combat automation does mostly fine in my experience. I just finished up a long 200+ hour game and there was only one moment where it frustrated me by suiciding some of my raid fleets one at a time into a particularly advanced neutral starbase that was lower in strength than my fleets, but had a bunch of fighters and my fleets didn't have dedicated PD. But for the most part, as long as you give it enough fleets to work with (I finished my game with 71) and you're not tech-weak, it'll win wars for you just fine and you can watch your big fleets kill things.
>>2266655I think it would be easier for people to understand if the ship upgrade paths and macro level management were better. The fact that I still can't pick between mining station designs without manually building them which takes the constructor off automation is a major annoyance. And there are instances where I've wanted to upgrade ships into one of two designs so I have to manually toggle upgrade paths rather than being able to check mark valid upgrades which the game then just handles based on automation settings.
>>2266693Honestly, I wouldn't bother at all with mixing automation and manual control when it comes to design and retrofitting. Those two systems seem like they're designed to be automated fully in tandem, and the assumptions the automation makes when retrofitting often don't align with the assumptions you'll make for a design. I always keep everything on that screen on manual, and whenever I want to upgrade something I'll do a 'copy as new' on a design then go and set the retrofit path for the old design manually before obsoleting it. Working with multiple base designs does suck though and they need to do something about that, right now you have to do tedious pause shenanigans (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rebNBbJSxZU) to get things to work.
>>2262525you don't get to have high iq without giving up something else in character creation
>>2264664It's this. Man was fine until he developed a discord cult, then they got into his headAutismos are just much more vulnerable to being groomed and groomers know it.
>>2237612my (team's) game
>>2236555It may just be slow development, the earliest teasers and such had placeholder assets from some asset store or something (The same ships as the KUROGANE mod in Stellaris has used for half a decade.) I am willing to believe that it's real, then again I do play StarCitizen so I may not be trustworthy.
>>2236555it needs work dude
>>2262525Easy for the true supremacist freaks to manipulate their insecurities and warp them into dysphoria. I'm glad their shit doesn't work on me.>>2266235OG Sins, pre-expansions wasn't exactly the best, either. It grew greater over the years.Sins 2 is doing a similar road now.
>>2262525Game developers are by and large nerds, who until recently were social outcasts. Indie devs are even bigger nerds, and thus typically don't have a large social net to interact with on a day to day basis. Ongoing game development invariably results in a form of parasocial relationship, in which a community builds a rapport as the game is gradually improved. Trannies, themselves outcast by their nature, tend to socialize digitally. It just so happens that gender dysphoria intersects with mental illnesses that are manifested in antisocial or socially awkward individuals. The end result is that you have a game dev that probably doesn't receive that much attention in their life being completely bombarded by continuous words of encouragement from a group of mentally unwell terminally-online losers, who gradually groom the individual to join their ranks through social pressure. It could be said that the gradual enshitification (or whatever less-cringey terminology you wish to use) of most indie games is oftentimes due to an otherwise competent developer exposing themselves to a parasitic, self-destructive cult. This can be seen even in gaming circles that are not mostly or even somewhat trannoid, as this parasocial relationship nonetheless manifests but in a decidedly less autogynephilic fashion.Example: Terra Invicta has been absolutely gutted of fun since its release by Pavonis, due entirely to game development centering entirely on the no-lifers on their Discord. The game is now so unbalanced that a newcomer has basically no chance of survival as most avenues have been nerfed into the ground. In a traditional model in which a completed product is brought to market this never would have happened, but due to continuous development this basically became unavoidable.
