I'm now an old fuck and jaded about games, nothing catches my attention and everything seems shit. I have these initially sad moments when I launch modded Myth 2 just to kill some time and it's always a breathtaking experience. The narrative, the missions, the gore, the battles, the feeling of hopelessness... Yet you still micro, you still fight, you eventually win and then you see this screen with stats, see your heroes and casualties and it hits hard.
No game has ever had this long-lasting impression on me, I don't think it's nostalgia, I just think it's THAT GOOD.
Lets talk about it, shall we? Any anons on here been myffin lately?

Pick one. Haven't touched those in ages, great games tho.

I remember watching my dad play Diablo and Myth 2 on the computer. I was really bad, so I needed him to beat the levels so I could see the animated cutscenes.
>>
needs a GOG release, haven't been able to play it for over a decade

between starcraft and this is what got me into online gaming, really loved co-op missions for the hero levels. got good at doing that trick with the lightning dudes and dwarves to send bombs flying across maps. also loved having the floating dudes constantly harassing people in weird spots on maps. the modding was pretty cool as well, remember some guy making a vietnam mod.

although i was the complete opposite of you, the dark edgy look appealed to little kid me and it would take years before i really appreciated the story. just liked the gore and violence

I played this in 1999 and it made me a fan. I had a Mac so I had this, Marathon, and Starcraft, Warcraft. That was huge because Mac didn't have good games like PC at the time. I wish it had gotten an MMO instead of Warcraft.

Bungie did the single player better at the time but Starcraft had a custom multiplayer map called Big Game Hunters. All my friends would do that instead of the single player games. So it was like I had a secret, I knew kino gaming while they gooned over Asheron's Call and Everquest.

All that Myth needed was an after game, maybe a rogue like/lite after main story mode with some more units and factions. If I come across 5 to 25 million usd I will make an RTS RTT that models Myth, with customized units that vet off kill counts. The rogue lite will be faction wars of Myth, so a brigand or militia or undead faction can keep playing, taking zones then moving on getting rpg adventures along occasional battles and raids.

The closest game that came close to Myth was Mount and Blade. If I could a Myth reskin or mod for it I think we would be set. I would play that shit. I would pay $25-45 for a Bannerlord expansion that was based on Myth. Fuck yeah. Fuck yeah.

I watched Mandalore's review and got interested in it. Even got the book Chronicles of the Black Company, which inspired the game. I'd buy it if GOG released it or a remake showed up

Did any of the recent mods fully re-implement the cut artwork from the mission briefings in Myth: The Fallen Lords?
>>
>>2237549
Old game, I only seen Mandalore talk about it. Cool that they took influence from Black Company books.
>>
>>2237549
I remember that as a kid I only played this when my family was home because it was too scary otherwise.
Something about the weakest enemies in the game being able to simply rise from the ground and paralyze anyone with a single scratch, and how quickly things could spiral out of control, made me freak out.
Enemies being not only much more numerous, but also stronger as well also its work.
Twenty years later I still find it a better horror game than 99% of the widely-acclaimed horror slop nowadays.

what game

I yearn for a game to be released that is as good as this series. Bungie really struck every note with this series.

Just thinking about the state of modern games in comparison is so damn depressing.

Tyranny, the RPG, is also heavily inspired by the book series.
>>

In some ways, yes. But it has other problems.

40 years old depressed married man here

Wow, it takes me back this game. The story and the horror of humanity being wiped out, enemies numerous, stronger, all the gore, you could rename the soldier with names and you got attached to them, and they die a horrific death.

Great thread.

how depressed are you? do you feel trapped?

There's a straight-up RPG taking place in the Black Company setting being made.

why'd they call it that?
>>
>>2269297
They don't have a title yet. I'm more curious on which time period it'll cover, which region, and whether it'll be about the Black Company itself, or we'll be playing a separate character who partakes in the wider events.
>>
>>2269022
I'm 43 and I'm not married so dunno why you're depressed.

There's a fan patch for the first game has some broken graphics issues that won't ever be fixed, and another that ports the game to Myth 2 which has some differences, there's no good way to just play the first one as it was meant to be played originally
>>
>>2269022
Reminder that in the story's setting the creator god of the world is DEAD. The Dreams that spellcasters use are literally that - the stray thoughts and dreams of a dead deity.

Imagine living on a planet where you know for a fact God is real... but he died. And something killed him.

>>

Back in the day people didn't know Apple would become outright antagonistic towards gaming.
