Trade sims are 6/10 games.
Logistical puzzles, however? 11/10, and those are usually fan-mods to pre-existing games that either deal with trade, transportation or railroad.

Patrician II was my first game and it’s really the same as Patrician III. I think they just tried to make more money by slightly reworking the preceding game. Same goes with Port Royale and Port Royale 2. Trade simulators are fun and they taught me a lot about business. Too bad the genre is all but extinct today and all we have is slop like shop simulator or some cartoonish startup sim nonsense.

Here in Germany there never was a Patrician III, it was an expansion pack called "Aufstieg der Hanse"(rise of the Hanseatic League)
Don't really know why they sold it as it's own standalone title internationally

was one of the 3 large strategy games in germany in its time. Stronghold for the military aspect. Anno 1602 in the middle (still the best Anno). and Partician II (Patrician I has a charm however as it was intened as edutainment before edutainment was really a thing and its just more immersive)

i have some grievances with II/III:
sieging towns as a is tedious and not fun (but worth it). Treasure map quests needing multiple pieces. Cand found your own hideout as pirate.
Underworld reputation is an unfinished mechanic.
Smuggling is undercooked.
No fees for keeping ship in harbor.
No true dynasty mechanics.

now sea battles in Partician III are really fun, id argue better than most games with them.

My dream strategy game would be Patrician III crossed with starsector. (multiple fleets actual goods simulation, growing and shrinking planets, treasure hunts that don't tell you where to go [annoing in patrician would be great in starsector], Buying industy on planets not your own, managing housing and infrastructure, offer loans, Player Storage manegement, feasts, marriage, Status is Planet based]

I have heard that sentiment before but my only copy of Port Royal 2 would not recognize itself as original disk, i have the booklet tho and it looks like Pt2 in better in every respect but combat (because it looks like weapon loadouts are locked and only 1 ship). i used to have the map too...

Combat with large fleet in patrician III is stressfull your ships can easily collide (hurts durability and profit) and you or autofire can and will hit your own ships occassionaly.

For combat i love the second ship type (kraier in german no idea abt english) you can build just don't overload them on crew and they can catch up with anything.

so I've never actually beaten this game yet. I'll get up to like 20 ships and then get bogged down in micromanagement. I have automated convoys but then I have to watch them lest they get raided by pirates. how do i do ultraprofitable shit and stuff. seems like the game just fades out.
