Did anyone make a Crusader kings-esque mod with unhinged features like
>You can marry your family like daughter or sister.
>You can marry very underage characters. Everything above 8 is game.
>You can now worship Satan and it will make all the kingdoms instantly hate you.
>You can force your people into cannibalism.
>You can have children serve in your army.
And the likes...
>>

Sturgia and Northern Empire have shared being the second to fall for many patches.
I remember having debates about why Sturgia gets its shit kicked in all the time back when /mbg/ was on /vg/

Same as the Vaegirs desu.
>>
>>2270496
>Sturgian troops aren't that good
That's completely irrelevant to autoresolve.
One of the reasons might be that most lords in Sturgia despise the ruling family and so cost a lot more to call to war and are more likely to defect, but I honestly don't have any idea about their actual relations besides what the lore is.
>>
>>2270496
I don't fully understand what makes Srug troops so weak, at least their inf and noble cav. On paper they look like they should be fine but obviously something doesn't translate into gameplay. The only thing I can think of is it being the weapons for the heavy inf? I was never too impressed with axes and spears are just complete dogshit in this game.
>Sturgia is inconveniently shaped
Funnily enough this got worse with War Sails splitting their nation in two, forcing them to sail between their constituent parts.

Axes are great, or at least they were way back in the beta when I played captain mode and got a real good feel for what worked and what didn't.
Axes were good for the AI because they nearly always do a downwards chop and the short range means it nearly never gets stuck in an ally, I even took the base axes over the sword perk the sturgian infantry got.

That's what I thought until I did finish the story and it was still the case. That's also why I said it might have been a rebalancing of armor calculations, since you do end up that story with a fair big of armor, not like you do when you start completely clean, and it could have chained from story damage reduction > armor damage reduction.

Or maybe my game just bugged out.

Nah you can order your units to go to specific places and do specific things so the battles qualify as RTS. And the overworld is an RTT so it's actually 2 strategy games in one. And yes, it does also qualify as RPG, action-adventure, and FPS. That's why you're mad - it mogs your favorite games.

Also why isn't it in vanilla that I can choose which specific clan member to marry my child off to? Why does it default to the oldest available clan member? Don't offer my 18yo child a 58yo spouse!
>>
>>2270858
>They might as well wait until both games (CK3 and Bannerlord) are finished.
Well CrusaderBlade did actually work years ago, the dev just got burned out and stopped updating it (and later deleted it over some e-drama). No one knows exactly what he did because he won't release the source code, but it's definitely possible, so waiting until both games are done isn't even really necessary. IIRC it was the frequent CK3 updates that necessitated most of the work.

>they don't surrender
>act surprised when I behead them after thw battle
>somehow it is considered "not keeping your word" and all nobles hate me now

Also war sails has broken sturgia (in half), so all of their nobles can be killed in sea becauss they have 1 shittiest boat each and arabs (same issue, less prominent)

Also there is no reason to use boats unless you have mariner units (which is tier 6 for most factions) because they suck otherwise
>>
>>2270883
>dev just got burned out and stopped updating it
And that's the problem with mods and these long development cycles. Games get updates for decades these days, it fucking sucks. You are playing on dev time, not your own. It's why I sort of prefer to wait until games are abandoned, finally, in a sense "released" finally, so you can play it and mods in peace. Not that they still not fuck with you sometimes, like how Todd fucks with Fallout and Skyrim ever so often, but Bannerlord is on GoG, so you can have it offline, which is neat, but need to back shit up yourself.
This shit made not get excited about new "releases" because I know they will be messing with the game for YEARS anyway.
>>
Sturgia and Nordvyg are in a stalemate. Just capturing two castles and nothing else.
>>

Maybe I haven't played enough, but I don't really feel like there's much of a difference between all the ships. Visually yeah, I like the Aserai ones the most, and probably Empire is my #2.

>>2270866
Seconding. I was hoping heavy shield infantry with throwing weapons would do decently against them, but clearly the shield coverage isn't enough to protect them well during their throws, and the fact that they only get 1 stack of shitty low range axes instead of proper javelins doesn't help either.

>>
>>2271327
>Modded bannerlord still mogs modded warband
I like bannerlord, but this is completely and utterly false. The sheer variety and amount of mods as well the size of them mog anything bannerlord has hard. There's not a single mod for Bannerlord that even comes close to the amount of content stuff like Warsword Conquest, 1257AD or Perisno have, and there's like a dozen more mods of that magnitude for Warband.
>>
>>2271345
the gap is closing rapidly and I will argue that Bannerlord equivalent of these mods are better put together
>Warsword Conquest
Poorly put together troop trees, Arenas are clusterfuck (some are stupidly long, others have archer nests placed so high you will get turned into pincushion by the time you get there), retarded shit like infinite dodge unit or one hit kill undead unit, magic is just you throwing exploding rock
>Old Realms
Class system with restrictions(No ManDamsel of the Lady here), proper magic animations and system, siege weapons on the field, tournaments have objectives not just a moshpit, proper necromancy
Shokuho is getting as well
the only mods that make Warband unique are the heavy narrative ones like The Last Days(LoTR) and Aut Caesar aut nihil
Perisno and PooP are just army blob wank
>>

>>
>>2271660
It was barebones but it was enough to make it feel like they had some basic forms of personality/agenda. Instead of expanding on that in Bannerlord, TW went backwards. The clan system in its current form has a lot to do with it imo.

People always talk about feasts needing a comeback and there'd be an easy way to actually make them worthwhile to attend by rebranding them as some sort of semi-regular gathering or parliament of nobles during which laws are proposed. That way you could actually lobby nobles to support a new law or the revocation of a current one. It'd make that whole system a little more engaging.

Even then I had more enjoyment with the bannerlord clan system (with marriages and heirs and stuff) than those warband lord interactions that get very stale very quick. Lords of the same personality type being functionality identical didn't help either, bannerlord splitting personality into different traits is a certain improvement, too bad they didn't really add any mechanics to make use of them

I'm already rich and there's really not much to spend money on. Why would I want fiefs? They only give you even more money, I have no need for that.
I feel like they should have some other uses, too. For example imagine if villages could only have basic troops, and you could only recruit noble units from your own towns? That would make owning fiefs actually worth it, regardless of your income.
Or maybe you could mobilize large mercenary-like units to join you in the field from your fiefs.

you or that other anon percieve our posts about what bannerlord lacks as us hating it and idolizing warband.
we don't. warband is jank but had cool concepts.
those concepts should have been expanded on in the sequel. not cut out.
we all see the potential in bannerlord and hope it will surpass warband and make it obsolete.
how well the game runs, being able to mix and match mods and adding armours and weapons easily instead of suffering through warband's modding method and doing it one by one is fucking great.
the heir system is fucking great.
the sieges are pretty good.
being able to create custom weapons is fucking great. although smithing as a skill is meh.

>>
>>2271662
Nta, but there are three things that factor into auto resolve when it comes to troops: regulars, irregulars and cavalry. Sturgia has shit-tier irregulars that the AI underhires. This creates two effects at once: there are less irregulars in the match-up (so AI gets countered easier in the match-up calculation) and those that exist are pretty shit, as they have lower value for the calculation (shitty weapons that are effectively two tiers lower than everyone's else)
>>
I think it would have been better if Nords were implemented as a "semi-faction", somewhere between a real faction and a minor clan. Sturgia wouldn't need to be shit on than.

>>
>>2272500
Well I mean, the game didn't really fundamentally change. They are definitely overcharging for how little actual content is added.

In my personal opinion, the changes and additions are good. But the core of Bannerlords problems are still there: 24/7 war and every single battle is completely onesided; you either destroy the enemy or the enemy destroys you - all of this despite all the changes.
>>
>>2272501
>>2272474

got it, thanks guys
>>
>>2272505
That's a shame. It means those issues aren't "problems to be fixed" in their eyes. This DLC was a chance for them to actually do something substantial I guess its up to the modders once again. But I don't think even modders can fix 24/7 war since that is hard coded into the game.

>>

Well sturgia got cut in half.
>>
>>2272700
Boat travel is fast and it makes going between southern Imperial lands and Aserai holdings much simpler. Same with the lake in the north between Sturgia and the Nimps. The Nords are super spread out though and even by boat traveling between their farthest holdings is rather slow. Most traveling you'll do will be about the same though. The major exceptions are the bits of Sturgia that are cut off and the crossing between the Aserai and Vlandia. You'll need boats for those now.
>>

Nice bug.

1200 vs 200 in an offensive siege. We of course easily win the battle. But I get wounded, we destroy almost all of them, losing only 100 of our own.

They retreat to the keep.

Since I'm wounded, I have to send in the men, so I do.

They lose.

So the 20 or so defenders in the keep - in the autoresolve - defeat the army of 1000 and capture me and clean up my entire inventory.

Nice one TW. Do you ever fucking test anything?

Different anon, but it's literally in the code.
Units are evaluated for their:
- tier
- gear (via tier system)
- type
This means same tier units aren't evaluated equally, if they have gear disparity. Like in the case of Sturgian archers or Khuzait infantry. Or why veteran archer militia is so fucking great in actual combat, but dies by the dozen in auto-resolve.
>>
>>2273325
Battania not having sea access is literally part of their in-game lore.

>make the river under the Dryatic mountains just end in a pool with no outflow and no explanation as to where that water goes

The Bannerlord map makes me go fucking insane the more i look at it. Pre-War Sails i was trying to do this partial redesign to try to match the Warband and Bannerlord lores together without fucking up the whole goddamn thing gameplay wise, mostly moving things where they should, trying to make rivers make sense and most importantly erasing some mountains or turning them into more reasonable hills so we could have wide open plains instead of a turkroach pacman maze from shore to shore, but with war sails fucking things up even further i'm just going to hope modded historical maps are better.

I've never played brytenwalda so I have no idea how VC compares, but I've played vanilla VC for a couple hundred hours and in retrospect it's shit. 60% of lord armies are pitchfork peasants, battle loot is saved in kill order so after big battles it's just a bunch of peasant rags, events are full of little gotcha choices like + stats that only show up once and require a certain amount of gold, horses are super expensive, unit promotions to higher levels are super expensive, capturing ships is borderline impossible, etc. Whoever is left in charge of maintaining the mod also fucked faction relationships last year, now they don't reset for the player once the war is over.
VC balance mod from Hooded Horse unfucks all of this, rebalances troop trees, prices and wages, changes lord army composition, sorts battle loot by price, revamps events, all of that jazz, it's really fun. Balance mod has been out for years.
Now some guy is making an overhaul based on VC balance mod, it will have new formation AI and QoL features like village garrisons.
>>
>>2273898
>60% of lord armies are pitchfork peasants
>horses are super expensive, unit promotions to higher levels are super expensive, capturing ships is borderline impossible
Isn't this done this way on purpose, for historical accuracy? It definitely was in brytenwalda
Btw regarding the battle loot filling up with trash, somewhere in PoP wiki there's a tweaks guide and there's a tweak that does exactly that (fills the loot screen with expensive items first) and IIRC it can be applied to literally any mod (so long as it doesn't change the looting function itself), you might want to check that out

Should I stop trying to groom governors and just use whatever I can, or is there a way to churn out good governors quickly?
>>
>>2274255
If lords actually tried filling army composition templates instead of minmaxing it could be possible to make them more distinct. All factions have a "hero" unit that represents them at the end of their troop trees, they could have given a slightly different hero unit for each empire like that.
>West has Legionary Evocatus, Legionaries plus+
>North has Scholae Palatina, Palatine guards with a huge 2H Rhompaia instead of a 1H sword and nicer armor
>South has Cataphract Bucellarii, Elite Cataphracts with luxury armor and throwing weapons for extra fuck you
>>
>>2274164
that looks great

the only people who are capable of making non-dogshit troop trees are the people on here. it's incredible.

i just downloaded the updated rbm with its own troop overhaul, and i dont even know what to say...

sure, the game is unplayable without RBM, but the troop overhaul? no. disabling that one
>>
Does War Sails and 1.3 add new features for minor factions, specifically for the lake rats? They're whole schtick is beaching ships and salvaging them.
>>
>>2274323
I like that alot, really shows the end goals of each faction compared with one another. Making the Imperial divide more philosophical both in design and strategy rather then political would be a very cool experience.

>RBM troop overhaul
How bad is it? For my part I try to keep designs grounded in history but focused on aesthetics, the top tier units of Vlandia should reflect their status in both appearance and weaponry. In English history for example the pinnacle of commoner soldiery were the longbowmen and billmen who respectively defined themselves as standing next to and even outdoing their noble allies and foes. Giving the voulgiers and sharpshooters a higher quality and more uniformed apparel fits them. I like to present the soldiers as though they were from a high budget Shakespearian movie adaptation - Kenneth Branagh's Henry V laid most of the groundwork along with Olivier's 1944 film. For the Empire I looked to Ryse son of Rome and Total war Attila though admittedly it feels much more out of place given the time period.
>>
>>2274285
If there's one thing the DLC really nailed it's the naval battles themselves. Everything from the look and feel of it to the actual gameplay feels really tight.
>>
>>2274344
agreed, and I want to also give them credit for completely redoing the map. Nords could be better but mods will fix it
>>
>>2274343
RBM's troop tree overhaul is just retarded, don't even bother with it. It's a fantastic mod, don't get me wrong, no-one should play Bannerlord without it. But you're better off waiting for De Re Militari to update. That is an RBM-approved troop overhaul mod whcih they recommend you to play with anyways.
>>
>>2274347
The map is so much more interesting now too it's not just bigger or re-done it feels more tactical especially with alliance mechanic
>>
>>2274330
I really liked De Re Militari as far as troop tree overhauls go. I haven't used it in a few years since I tend to play vanilla but I really liked how it made a clear distinction between levy, regular, and noble troops. Factions maintained their flavor, they felt like they had clearer strengths and weaknesses, and your nobles felt like a decisive and precious force of your army that you can't just throw around or spam like crazy. I also personally prefer more grounded army compositions so it was nice that levy shitters remain a core part of most armies throughout the game.

yup, the ways they fleshed out the waterways really enhanced the tactical naval gameplay, example:

>They ask for peace

Still waiting to have a massive 1k+ battle at sea army versus army
>>
>>2274366
The best way to do this is to wait for an enemy army to besiege one of your faction's port settlements, then attack them from sea. Each siege is also a naval blockade now, so doing this forces them into a naval engagement. I've not had the luck to find an enemy army out at sea while sailing around with one of my own. The best I can hope for is occasionally spotting an enemy lord traveling by boat, but even that's rare unless you spend all your time in the water which you can't really afford to do if you're serious about campaigning and taking fiefs.

So I downloaded RBM, was disgusted by the troop tree overhaul, and re-imported my adjusted troop tree.

So it's basically:

>War Sails vanilla troop tree
+
>My Sturgian reflavoured troop tree
>Minor Nord changes
>Every single ranged troop tree adjusted to account for RBM ranged overhaul changes, so basically they all use correct poundage bows/crossbows + correct gram arrows/bolts

If any1 is interested, let me know, and I'll figure out how to upload it

>>Every single ranged troop tree adjusted to account for RBM ranged overhaul changes, so basically they all use correct poundage bows/crossbows + correct gram arrows/bolts
Do they not work correctly in vanilla troop trees with RBM? I was just about to download the mod right now
>>
>>2274389
You can still speed up your troops with horses even if you have no cavalry thoughbeit
>>
>>2274392
No they don't, because he used existing item ID's to create rebalanced ranged items, such as 120 pound longbows, or 90 pound composite bows, etc etc. and many different ammunition, like 70 gram arrows or 80 gram arrows, etc.

Different poundage bows (and composite vs longbow as well) have an optimal weigh arrow they prefer, or rather fire optimally with. This is one of the reasons RBM has a "native" troop tree overhaul, to ensure the ranged troops get the correct ranged weapons with the correct ammunition.

But if you disable the RBM troop tree, then you're stuck with the native troop tree but with all the wrong bows/crossbows and bolts. so for example the tier 6 khuzait horse archer has a lower poundage bow than the tier 5 khuzait horse archer, meanwhile both of them use 50 gram arrows when they should be using like 80 pound arrows etc

He made the RBM troop trees a very long time ago when the Sturgians were basically notNords. That's why they have "Ulfheddins" who are... not dressed in any Wolf furs, and also why they have Axeman with... only a spear and a shield.

He probably assumes 99% of people who use RBM either don't have refined taste in troop trees, or uses their own custom troop tree.

My changes to the Sturgians was to rectify some of the retarded changes TW made with the War Sails patch, but to summarize:

>Gave the Line Breakers back their 2h axes instead of the new 2h maces (much worse). Also renamed them to Vanguards instead of Line Breakers
>Replaced javelin cavalry with horse archers, and renamed them from brigands to Trapper > Raider > Veteran Raider
>Changed noble tree significantly
>The first three tiers are (now) much better looking infantry troops with a very diverse set of equipment, named Adventurer > Hardened Adventurer > Hero. Various sets of equipment, everything from 1h + shield + 2h to 1h mace + shield to 2h + throwing.
>Tiers 5 and 6 are Companion and Druzhinnik or Bogatyr. Tier 5 is basically heavy cavalry with lance + shield + 1h sword + 2h axe.
>Druzhinnik is the same as vanilla except better looking equipment + 2h axe
>Bogatyr is a heavy horse archer with 1h + shield + bow & arrow
>A lot of cosmetic changes to all other Sturgian troops + some renamings, fur hats in early tiers, heavy cloaks in early to mid tiers, and utilizing some of the newer equipment across the mid to high tiers.
>Gave the Sturgians back round shields, to reflect their shared history with the Nords, in the early to mid tiers. Kite shields for high tier units.

Nords, minor changes:
>Added helms to troops with missing helmets in some equipment loadouts
>Switched out Sky God's Chosens shield for another quiver

More minor changes:
>All militia archers adjusted so the veteran militia archer actually has a higher tier bow

Most minor change:
>Gave proper neck armor to Palatine Guard
>>

I hate that most of the troop mods just can't help themselves but do stupid shit like give entirely new troop types to factions or change identity of existing ones or merge noble and normal troop trees when all I'd ask for is more variety in existing loadouts. Right now most of the troops have maybe two or three varieties even if they're "irregular" so if you actually manage to get bunch of them they just look like clones.
Another one of my wishlist items would be giving each clan (or more appropriately - each clan's home lands) unique variations of units but that's probably too much for the existing system.
>>
>>2274612
I think that the banner system could be expounded upon. Except instead of for per captain it should be per party leader or clan leader and it modifies the way certain troops look + a buff to skills or something. >Certain neighbourhoods (like Zeugma, now Unkapanı [tr]) were known to be pro-Green, and others (like Pittakia) were known to be pro-Blue. The Greens tended to be more working-class than the Blues, and were better represented among craftsmen, artisans, port-workers and countryfolk. Meanwhile, the Blues were better represented among elites and government officials, as well as the Jews.

>The demes caused disturbances not only in Constantinople, but as far away as Syria and Egypt. For example, according to John Malalas, in 490 the Greens started a pogrom and massacred the Jewish population of Antioch, until Theodore, the Prefect of the East, suppressed them. When Emperor Zeno, who was a supporter of the Greens, heard of it, he joked "Why did you burn only the dead Jews? It was necessary to burn the living Jews as well."[11]

Holy fuck kek nothing ever changes

also this is why we need intra-culture factions being more significant than ratty, landless clans just fucking around on the map being pseudo-bandits. Cities should have whole factions that are represented by the notables that occasionally start shit, fight eachother, their lords, or foreign occupiers, and that relate to the different guilds of the local industry, ethnic groups, followers of a lord or another, religious sectarianism(like keepers of the flame) etc. Be cool if we had rioting and assassinations going on all the time, maybe then stealth would be good for something

>>2274246
>Militia
Something to note when talking about custom troops, considering the game already have militia, naming them conscript or levy always works better, in fact that's what they did in Bannerlord with the Vlandian, the levy crossbowman is supposed to be the weird ancestor of the Swadian militia and Rhodok crossbowman.
imo one of the twist for Vlandia should have been that their militia should be much better equipped than everyone else's militia (aside from the empire maybe), with padded caps, gambeson and sometime light crossbows, to match the Swadian militia.

The intent behind giving the companion and druzhinnik 2h axes was to make them good when dismounted as well. I upped their athletics for that very reason. Meanwhile the Bogatyr is meant to be a heavily armoured horse archer that can hold his own in melee when on foot, hence 1h+shield but not very high athletics.

The naming, sure I could've done a better job of it, but I didn't wanna spend an additional hour thinking about good naming conventions to come up with.

I never fucked around with this mod, but I read that you can make specific options for recruitment, like specific troops for certain clans. I wonder, can you make for certain locations be able to recruit different troops, and so that AI lords can do it too.

nta but desu with a single, easy C# patch you can make anything spawn anywhere you want. I had to patch it for my elite recruits in castle mod so I know
the type of notable ? check
the type of the settlement ? done
the kingdom ? You're going to have a lot of troop trees to make but easy
you could easily take a castle for each minor faction and have it spawn their troops
so far the only thing I couldn't do is having the marine troops spawn in ports only (with a custom troop tree for the marines), but I just started working on it so it might be possible

Troop editor is certainly simpler though I thought the file editing would be much worse then it actually was. Really it was just a bunch of "control f" searching for equipment ids and the copy and pasting. I don't know if any of the mods are actually updated but my edits are working so far with each fix posted.

I mean you can make it more of a geographical thing than clan-based. Think how Empire is divided, all of them should have mostly the same tree but with slight differences and maybe a couple unique units for each. Vlandians could have a more cosmopolitan guys near border with Empire and guys more used to heat and "crusading" down south. Aserai could have also a more cosmopolitan guys in the west, more deep desert guys in the middle and more of an Iranian vibe down east. Sturgia could have guys that are more Nord-like up North, and then guys that are based on west/east Slavs on either side of that lake canal respectively. Khuzaits could have both the main horsefucker guys but also maybe remnants of some local culture they conquered or whatever, not sure about the lore. Battanians are a bit hard though since they're so concentrated geographically but I suppose differentiating them by clans would work decently here, different tartans and all, or just highland/lowland/water Battanians or something.
Having different types of looters and more bandits would be great, especially for War Sails since it's just either Sea Raiders (Nord) or Corsairs (Aserai), what about generic Empire pirates or Sturgian Lake Rats, some form of Vlandian/Battanian river pirates and maybe a bunch of lake dwelling pirates that used to be one of the cultures Khuzaits pushed into that lake in the east.
And THEN you give each clan an unique specialty unit in the noble tree.
The possibilities are pretty much endless.
>>
>>2275607
Yes (with like 50 free guys each time) but also depending on age of your save you are looking at them having so many parties it's impossible to go anywhere without there being a bunch of them.

That town at the mouth of Aserai river has it. Sanala, I think. It also has sails and better cladding. Siege equipment and assorted (sails again) usually Empire tier 3 shipyards, Diathma in the north, don't remember names for south.
Better oars I've only seen in Thronderlag up north with Nords.

Battanians have the worst ships. They don't even get a heavy ship at all.
Drakkars have shallow draft, high speed and high sea worthiness making them really good if you just want to get places quick, and for battles they have the highest deck capacity at 106 and really high top speed both with sails and oars.
Sure, Dromons and Ghurabs and such carry more total, but you're only getting like 80 guys on deck on them. Of course this matters little for most part since AI is stupid and retarded but you could absolutely load yourself up with tons of strong mariner units and slap people's ass from side/behind where their siege and rams don't reach.
>>
>>2276089
Nord ships should have the ability to land anywhere that isnt a steep rock cliff any time. The point of sea raiding is literally to spring from out of nowhere, rape and pillage real quick and leave before anyone can fight you. They should make OP Vlandian and Imperial ships require actual docks.

They're mostly fine, Line Breakers now use a mace so they're generally worse against low tier troops but arguably better against high tier but other than that the changes to them were mostly cosmetic. If you were using them before you won't notice much of a change in performance.
Nords are at least comparable from what I've seen, though two of their top tier melee units drop helmets for furry hats, but their noble line is also infantry melee, so that might be better.

wdym, sea dogs had an arrow and here you have a wind blowing in the direction icon instead of arrow

>>2276860
You get like 1/4th of their price which is few thousand to few dozen thousand depending on the ship. It's okay, though the bigger balancing issue is that pirates are pretty much universally 50-70 guys on three ships so you need a similar number of people to compete and if you have low tier units your shit will get pushed in, especially by Sea Raiders that have decent armor, strong throwing weapons and make short work of any non-mariner unit in melee, so I'd argue it's not really an early game thing, even if you can get a small ship for couple dozen men for about 10k.

They have higher health, better cargo and can house more troops. So they're more durable than Longboats. They're straight up better than Longboats.

None of the Sturgian and Nord boats are intended for ramming or ship-to-ship combat, they're simply meant to deliver the troops to the enemy ships as quickly as possible.
>>
>>2277147
>Combatants were permitted a specific number of shields (usually three) they could use
>axes are not fucking lightsabers
how long do you think you can lift a shield that has 4 axes in it?
same goes for javelins. since you can't simulate not being able to lift a shield that has so much weight on it, shattering it entirely is a plausible solution.

Historical shields are way thinner than you're thinking. A 2 handed axe (though ahistoric as a battlefield weapon) would just rip most of it straight off your arm.

>Cringe, that was a thing in Eastern Europe.
Yeah maybe, but for the Sturgians specifically I think horse archers makes more sense and it's also just better from a gameplay perspective, considering their proximity to the Khuzaits. Tyals lore even states clearly that they have a lot of connections with the Khuzaits.

The Sturgian horse archers are not exactly going to demolish you like Khan's Guard, but they are durable and do get some kills. They skirmish well while the Sturgian infantry advances or waits for the enemy to advances.

Approach them slightly from the right, and use a right swing attack, this bypasses the shield - and I actually appreciate the need to do this with RBM. Makes stealth attacks a bit riskier and require more precision.
>>
>>2277163
Ok, but you shouldn't remove javelin cav for that, should be additional unit. Or as I said, game needs regional units, so you could recruits them in eastern Sturgian lands, but not the western.
>>
>>2277169
If I could've kept both without bloat, I would've. I just didn't want to just bloat the Sturgian troop tree more than it already has become with the addition of Marine troops.

But your suggestion would be ideal, regional troops. I'm not a modder though, just a troop editor autist.
>>
>>2277172
I think Troop Editor mod could allow you do that, I have not tried it, but I believe it allows for regional (well, specific settlements) recruitment, even specific clans.

It really is the gauntlets and boots that I am stuck on as neither of these really fits with a crossbowmen and the vambraces looked odd with the golden armour. I am leaning on the fantastical side here with the design.

>since you can't simulate not being able to lift a shield that has so much weight on it
Just decrease the shield's speed value based on the amount of stuff stuck in it? Alternatively make shield raising speed depend on its weight which is dynamically increased by the weight of whatever is in it, and make an upper weight limit above which it can no longer be used. This is piss easy, I could have coded it myself assuming all those values are exposed and can be changed by mods (don't really know much about bannerlord's internals)
>>
>>2277186
Speak for yourself, I liked small scale fighting and I always made my team fallow me and we fought together, now those TW tards removed this from me.
>>
>>2277175
I'll look into that. If that's true then I'll give the mod authors a few weeks to update all their mods, and once things settle a bit, I might take some time to do just that for all the cultures.

>>2277180
Both look kinda ass to be honest but the left one at least looks more plausible, the gauntlets on the right are too bulky and give the impression that his arms are better protected than the rest of his body, they'd fit a heavy plate armor knight but not a crossbowman, same with boots
>>
>>2277187
>Just decrease the shield's speed value based on the amount of stuff stuck in it?
Would then also need a mechanic to make them unstuck, which would allow you to choose, stop and fix your already damaged shield, or drop it (maybe pick up another one instead).

>>
>>2277200
Yeah I agree, this one is really just me playing around. The boots on the left are very bulky as well though it is way less noticeable with the shine of the right. Honestly I might just leave it as is, it's just with my edit of the Legionary to be more ahistorically Western Roman it feels weird to have Byzantines in my rear line as crossbows.

>>
>>2277187
the game doesn't simulate arm tiredness from lifting shields with shit embedded in them.
the character balance will shift with shit embedded on the left arm and make the whole movement awkward.
i'm going to pull it from my ass but i doubt people kept using shields with shit embedded in them and just opted to discard them entirely.
>>2277195

>>
>>2277210

>>

Likely, unless maybe they were in a heath of battle and couldn't do that, but probably ideally you would retreat to the back line then as another guy with shield takes your place, if possible.
>>
>>2277220
I'm going to give it a go and take some screenshots later, perhaps the sun bloom will save me.
>>
I just installed Retinues mid way through my Nord playthrough. Need some ideas for cool custom troop trees for regular troops, noble troops and retinues.
I'm thinking since I'm a Nord culturally, I'll want to focus on infantry for the most part, but maybe I'll add like one branch of regular troops that would fullfill a role of a light armored shock cavalry. And then what? Could have a main regular branch be shield/axe/throwing weapons, and maybe a second branch for archers, but what should I do with the noble lines and retinues in that case?
>>

>>2277204
That would make sense from a realism view, but not from game balance view, it would be a severe nerf to javelins and thrown axes to be able to just undo their most important effect
>>2277219
The game doesn't simulate any kind of tiredness at all to be fair, I don't think shields specifically deserve a whole stamina mechanic added just for them

The way I'd have done shields is make them completely unbreakable and repurpose the shield HP bar into weight bar. The more projectiles are stuck in it, the slower it becomes to raise and move around, and once full the agent automatically unequips it. Obviously it's not realistic but would make for better gameplay
>but how is this different from it just breaking after suffering enough hits?
1) How much weight is too much can be affected by your/soldier's stats or even the total weight of all equipment, unlike shield's durability which is fixed and cannot be plausibly changed (avoiding literal magic like warband's Shield skill making them more durable)
2) Shields can only be rendered ineffective by ranged attacks and not melee, which forces melee troops to actually play around each other's shields instead of just swinging absentmindedly waiting for the other guy's shield to break already
>>
>>2277240
i am that guy. would they go so far as to make special easily breakable shields for duels?
>ritualistic
weren't they used as well as courts? not a religious thing.
>>2277241
but shields do splinter in melee.
simulating shields properly is hard. idk if it's even doable.
>>
>>2277241
Javelins should be strong not just against shields to begin with. Their limiting factor is amount and bulkiness.
>>
Javelins should have a chance of penetrating shields and dealing damage as if it hit an arm (for armor calculations)
>>
>Combatants were permitted a specific number of shields (usually three) they could use – the opponent's strikes could break a shield. The challenged would strike first and then the combatants would hit each other in turn. The combat would normally end on the first blood and the winner would receive three marks of silver.

These would be pretty good as veteran crossbowmen. The empire really needs to get a good make over, not just distributing better gear but also update the dogshit old vanilla ones, like all the mail coats that have really low res and bright textures, the kettle helmets that look rusty and dirty as hell, and the lack of variants. I wish modders tried that instead of adding a gorillion new stuff.

It's quite jarring that you can see at least three distinct different "quality levels" of assets. Some of the stuff looks almost like something from Warband, some of the stuff looks medicore but fine and some of the stuff looks really high quality.
I think the only other game I've ever experienced something like that was Men of War series, but there they kept the same engine and just upgraded assets along the way, so Gates of Hell still has (very few, but still, and it's worse in MoW2) assets from 2004 RTS like barrels made out of like 8 triangles.

The Empire feels to me a bit like Sturgia where some units seem to go all in on the lamellar whilst others still have simple chainmail shirts, I am coming at it from a aesthetic bias so I'm sure there is a reason for the discrepancy but it just vibes better for lack of better term then vanilla.
>>2277764
Thank you, I'm quite glad I stuck with it. I think the background really adds to them as well, gives them more room to breath.
>>2277766
I like the idea of variants, especially with Vlandians, though something about having Legionaries and Sergeant Crossbows be uniformed speaks to me - like the last hurrah of the dying Empire. I definitely think variation adds to all the other ranks aesthetics however, really shows the growing feudalistic nature of Calradia.

>>2277773
The game went through several redesigns along the way since 2020 where we had actual ooga booga metalhead dork shit in Battania and they slowly reached the Bronze age around last year, the empire simply got better helmets and two good armor sets but the overal selection is still all baggy pajamas with a mail texture on it. It's wild that mods like Open Source Armory even bother making variants of dogshit models that nobody even likes to begin with but nobody tries coping the mail texture from Vlandian armors over to imperial ones.

The mail coifs imperials have don't even match their own armors, they're actually more fitting with Vlandian mail coats.

ships require two things to avoid speed penalty:
- minimum crew required to sail all the ships in your fleet
- cargo space

if you don't meet the minimum crew requirement, you'll have a speed penalty

and the cargo space is the same as land inventory, the more you go over it the slower you are
>>
no1 knows it but i'm secretly slavanon and i love the nords because TW got them right (somewhat historically accurate to 600 A.D - 800 A.D norsemen)

and their positioning on the map is great as well, the sturgian/khuzait/nord borderlands are an amazing either intentional or unintentional representation of hypothetical contact (late 9th century "rus khaganate") between norsemen, eurasian nomads and slavic peoples.

some more troop editor autism:
https://we.tl/t-o1BxNqPrbw

balanced according to latest RBM version as of right now
changes from last time:
>nord troops made stronger on average, with overall higher armor values
>nord spear warrior removed throwing weapon, to bring it in line with nord axe warrior
>nord warfang and nord ulfheddin given javelins, to balance out the fact that they have lower armour compared to other tier 4 and tier 5 infantry units from other factions
>nord berserkr and skjaldbrestr given better armor
>nord huscarl and its pre-requisites given more consistent and better armor

overall they have very strong weapons, and now better armor overall. although the berserkr and shield-biter as well as the ulfheddin suffer from weak head armor. this was a design choice by TW which i wanted to keep while giving them good armor elsewhere to bring them up to speed to RBM balance. overall, unfortunately, those two nord infantry lines will be on the weaker end (overall) compared to tier 5 and tier 6 infantry units of the sturgians. but their offensive capabilities are still the best. the huscarl line should now be the strongest infantry units in the game without question.

Partially, yes. Combat AI difficulty has a huge impact, on normal 90% of your attacks even slow will go through because enemy won't raise the shield instantly, on challenging you do need good skills to be able to attack fast enough, unless you get lucky and the AI decides to not block you for whatever reason.

>>
>>2278747
I think Sturgians might actually be unsavable because of how much you would have to rework them both geographically, linguistically and aesthetically to differentiate themselves from the Nords. Personally I would shift them fully Eastwards and wedge them between the Nords, Khuzaits and Northern Empire. Make every name and units utterly Slavic, rebuild their designs and castles as well. Have their natural enemy be the Khuzaits to their South and Nord raids to their North, right now they are way to stretched across the map which really fucks with their identity in comparison to everyone else who ha perfectly encapsulated homelands.
>>
>>2278759
You don't need to do any of that. At most you could add a few more empire influences and maybe steppe shit and that's it. People screech and moan not realizing that there was overlap of equipment in historical cultures to begin with.
>>
>>2278747
>>2278759
I used to complain a lot about the Absolute State of the Sturgians, but I actually think they're 'okayish' now. It's just not polished yet in vanilla by TW.

But they have everything they need:
>Eastern-style armours & weapons, but TW just hasn't bothered to distribute them properly. The noble line looks absolutely atrocious.
>Shared clan name suffix with the Nords ("-ing") which is a bit heavy-handed and wouldn't have been universal in Kievan Rus as it is for the Sturgians and Nords, but it's a nod to that and it works.
>Notable names are largely slavic now, but there's still some cringeworthy stuff like "Ragnar" and "Mimir."
>Faction colour is a darker shade of the Warband faction colour for the Nords. This can easily be reworked into bone white like for the Vaegirs in Warband, while the Nords can either stay as is - or be given the old Sturgian faction colour.

They're an eye sore to be sure, but they can easily be fixed by modders or by TW if they understood what players want and had a good eye for aesthetics (they don't).

Captivity evens uses random porn art, is text heavy. Although, sometimes it uses Hot Butter mechanics too.
Hot Butter is simpler, less content, also animations are not as complex even compared to Dickplomacy, but it it's ok, like a bonus to impregnate your wife or whatever and have morale boost and healing and sex in exchange for some money.
Captivity events if you want to fap and then disable the mod.
Hot Butter as a lewd addon.

you should be running with your own clan only army 24/7.
clan members only army requires 0 influence to call or boost its cohesion and you can somewhat choose every single unit in it.
clan parties are retarded and would recruit even if they are at capacity and would donate to kingdom garrisons automatically when you visit so don't give them your top tier troops.
idk if party AI control mod is updated yet but get it if it is. it can disable donation and you can finely customize which units they recruit.

I love deserters because they're absolute loot pinatas and immediately give you expensive shit to play with early game if you're ballsy and skilled enough to take on them.

HOWEVER,

i wish there were even more things in between bandit and enemy army on the ladder of enemies to fight against. Deserters are kinda just shittier armies in the end, army composition wise. I'd like rogue merc companies doing extortion rackets and muscling caravans that employ rarer units you don't normally see in armies. Maybe religious fanatics that just go around ALLAHU ACKBARing anyone who's of foreign culture even if they're at peace and allied with their realm(would be perfect for Battania), and then maybe corrupt patrols trying to collect extra taxes and steal shit from you.

Taleworlds doesn't play mods.
They were in contact with the youtubers who had Early Access to the DLC(via a discord server). The post mortem possession, Nord buffs, Fian Champion and Khan Guard nerfs came from feedback by the youtubers.
It just wasn't communicated that the Companions should also be playable, so it didn't get added.
>>
>>2280124
nta but I don't hate it. With right companions, gear and formation/captain choices you could easily treat this as essentially respawns, still having almost full control of the battlefield with a really powerful character. Dying should still put you at a disadvantage, getting to play generic guys just gives you something to do and maybe get some XP to upgrade a trooper but you aren't stopping the AI from just doing whatever it always does when your character dies.
My only real complaint is that there should be a button to jump to an eligible unit or at least by default spectate one because it's quite ass to click through half of enemy army trying to find a guy you can take control of.

I think failing to get the keep and having men wounded in the process should cause an hostage situation where you have to negociate with the defenders. It's a time consuming process during which enemies can potentially show up to bail the defenders out.
Each successful negotiation causes them to release prisoners, each failed negotiation causes the delay between negociations to get larger. When there's no more prisoners, the defenders give up. Or you can just attempt to get the keep again, at the cost of the prisoners lives.
>>
>>2280173
You don't get to issue orders as them and both are arguably more effective as AI - they don't miss, players do. It'd be high level melee troops and heavy cavalry that would have the most impact since they tend to lack a self-preservation instinct.

TW puts a lot of time and effort into early/mid game mechanics because they are not gamers and do not understand that the game is fundamentally broken because all you need to do is to defeat one single Deserter party and you're catapulted into lategame gear and wealth anyways.

Loot should be at least 95% scarcer than it currently is. Equipment loot is just way too good.

>>
>>2280895
For that to happen they'd need to actually create a funtioning economy, not something that just runs in the background for city numbers to do things.
>>
>>2280995
A functioning economy would immediately collapse if a murderhobbo player character started mass-murdering bandits and soloing armies to flip battle loot all over the continent. A functioning economy would also not be able to sustain hundreds of armies fucking around for years and years with soldiers never going home and contributing to the economy or doing anything productive.

The fact that supply and demand actually changes at all is a pretty big achievement as is. There just needs to be more sources of income and more expenditures so the whole system doesnt consist entirely from a handful of trade items and insanely overpriced armor.

Thats the real economy problem. Upgrading units should be less of an instant peasant to knight button, not that cheap and not that quick. Going from Tier 1 to 3 should be relatively cheap and fast, tier 3 to 4 and 4 to 5 and 6 should increase exponentially. This would also mean much better army compositions for lords since there would be a bottleneck, less recruit and elite heavy armies.

Also maybe new equipment should be distributed gradually on recently upgraded troops to simulate them saving up their wages and acquiring new armor and weapons over time. Of course you should be able to pay to make it faster.

>>
>>2281081
The problem is that one side getting defeated in battle results in the defeated side being completely wiped out, and any potential prisoners are deleted and from the game.

That fundamentally makes it impossible to create a more in depth system.

Troops being wounded instead of dying should be the norm, RBM-style extending of battles should be baseline, and morale loss should be rebalanced to kick in much earlier - especially as the infantry on one side is gaining the upper hand against the infantry on the other, leading to routs. Once routed, some damage is inflicted on the routing army.

I don't know man, there's so many different and more interesting ways this can be handled in.

this game is just fundamentally broken and not well done.

there's an army of 500 khuzaits besieging a nord castle with a garrison of 150 nords.

i have an army of 200 nords, and around me are various nord lords, with anything between 70 and 150 nords.

in total, the armies OUTSIDE the garrison of the castle outnumbers the khuzait army 2 to 1.

so, of course, i go in to attack the besieging army.

unfortunately, for some reason, the other lords standing by DO NOT ENGAGE, and so when I discover that I am going in alone against the khuzaits - outnumbered - i am UNABLE to FLEE, i can only enter into a field battle or send in the troops.

Would it be cool or annoying to have a mod that adds regional troop types? Like instead of getting "Aserai recruits" everywhere in Aserai territory some areas would give you [NOT-EGYPTIAN], [NOT-TURKISH], or [NOT-LEVANTINE] recruits, and they can promote either to the vanilla Aserai troop tree or a specialized regional line that either fills a role the main troop tree doesn't have or gives you better T2-3 units at the cost of not being able to upgrade them any higher than that. It would take time to design and might be annoying to learn, but I feel like it would make the different factions feel a lot less samey, especially the Empire.
>>
>>2282003
very nice but only if used with yet another troop tree mod that redesigns vanilla troops to make them more like warband.
only 2-3 upgrade lines.

>>2282003

Just made this real fast but it would probably look something like this, if not necessarily these particular unit types. The Turks would give light cavalry, Syrians and Egyptians give shieldwall infantry and low tier archers. I haven't played Aserai in a while and they're pretty versatile already so I dunno how much they would even benefit from this.

From a tradeoff perspective might be better if the regional troops capped off at tier 4, or if the upgrade took them straight from tier 2 -> 4 in quality (representing that it's easier to train and equip them under their cultural military practices), and making those tier 4s slightly better than the mainline tier 4, but of course worse than the mainline tier 5
>>
>>2282085
That's an interesting idea but I'm worried if I go up to T4 it'll get scope creeped into becoming a bunch of complete non-elite troop trees. T3.5 seems like a more reasonable cap for what are meant to be regional levies from subject peoples but I'd probably have to play test it.

I've been trying out pikemen in custom and they're so bad. They can kill a bunch of high tier cavalry, but there is a lot of caveats.
>Pikemen not in the first or second row do not brace.
>This also applies to square. Units facing backwards or sideways do not brace. (You wouldn't want to use square anyway. See next point)
>If you slow down the cavalry, your pikes die. If you use tight formations, stick them behind other units, or fight uphill, the cavalry crowd the pikes and kill them in hand to hand.
>Pikes can turn around and brace, but they do it at the last second and it's usually too late.
>Face enemy command causes the division to rotate. They will do this as the enemy charges through causing deaths. Will not brace while trying to reposition.

There's a use case in protecting your ranged units from cavalry flanks, but the AI doesn't go out of their way to achieve this. Enemy cavalry charge your front line or isolated divisions.
I think they'd be fine if they would reliably turn around and brace. Ideally every row would brace in loose/line/square formations. As is they require way too much micro to do their only job.
>>
>>2282563
it's because weapons can't hit shit unless you're currently right fucking now performing an attack (or bracing/couching)
Polearms need to be able to be held out in front of you and passively hit fools that walk into them, and then attacking would just be a little jab for extra reach.
>>
>>2282565
That would be a huge change that TaleWorlds would never implement. I think that'd be great, but it won't happen.
Buffing their armour and adjusting the bracing mechanic could feasibly be added. Or just give them a shield. They already default to their sword when no cavalry are nearby.
>>
>>2282563
Pikemen are king in RBM with unlockable thrusts and spearmen a close second, but that's like 5 versions back when they both work along with all the other engoodenjgn mods. From warsails it looks like they just fully set polearm priority to 0 and made cavalry even even weaker to keep them from just running everyone over

It's 13k for a fishing boat. It's not that much. You can easily conquer your way up from a single fishing boat and 20 nord recruits to a fleet of heavy ships. If you've got more than 20, just fire everyone.
>Get 20 recruits and a fishing boat

>take every ship you can, sail back to a port and sell for a few thousand per ship

It's pretty fucking insane we have spear BRACING and lance COUCHING but not combining the both for pike formations moving forward with spears extended like a proper phalanx, it can't be too hard to mod, surely.

You know what's something they could do that would make combat a lot less bullshit? give horses a small modicum of actual AI of their own so that they, unless they're very high end war horses with high riding requirements, will disobey you if you drive them directly into a fucking pike wall. Horses don't do that unless they're bred and raised for war. Same with horses riding directly against trees and crashing like they're just cars that shit. Horses should steer to avoid obstacles right in front of them, try to turn around and even throw you off if you try to ride them off a ledge or into certain death.

Also war horses should just be murderous as fuck. They should be kicking and stomping and biting if you piss them off enough.

>The ease of getting into naval is a big thing for the DLC
The tutorial quest actively wastes time you could be spent on your actual first boat actually playing the naval combat.
>>2282746
The smallest natural spawn I've seen is 34 men on a boat that isn't villagers who are worth shit and get lords very pissed at you when you kill with the map average being 50. and for me they luckily had a longship. Isn't hard as a fight but is stupidly RNG for a haul of 3 boats out of it.

They could fix the naval progression curve by selling boats in damaged condition to the player at the shitty harbors. Getting multiple ships fixed to full is barely an expense if you can afford 1 ship in the first place and It's better game design for a player to lose 30 men to the spare boat imploding from being 300/10000 health than to dismiss them in a menu for more movement speed.

>>
>>2282965
if the mods you download are made for the soecific version you have, they will work.
1.2.12 was the last "stable" version so i assume every mod has a working version for it.
1.2.12 lasted for almost 2 years before 1.3 dropped.
>>
>>2282979
how new is this addition?
i don't remember 2 handers having one so outstanding that it makes the rest obsolete but i've never really cared about smithing and just crafted the longest and strongest blade possible.
>>
>>2282984
It's from War Sails, it added the Runed line of sword parts. The one next to it, to the left, is the Runed Short Blade and is also the fastest blade while keeping very high damage (not nearly as much as the Fullered Long version, but still very worthy).

The weird part too is that the one further to the left is the normal Runed Blade, and has the exact same stats as the Runed Short Blade but just with slightly less swing damage, even having the same length despite the name.

Still though, it's rare for any sword blades to break the 100 swing damage mark before adding the rest of pieces with damage in mind, and this one reaches 152 before that and without even touching the size slider.
>>
>>2282990
>It's from War Sails
i didn't buy the dlc yet. i'm conflicted. the turks are feeding us shit but they seem to be still fixing the game but i can't be sure if they made those quick fixes to give us hope but keep feeding us shit.
but i don't want to see them go under because i want to think they're not as shit as the other devs but idk how shit they in fact are because the other games i had interest in turned out to be shit. ck3 as an obvious example.

i just want bannerlord to be good but idk what to do to reach this timeline.

>cities with no lords can and will build fire weapons, unless the player is in charge of defense
Extremely gay
Any actual siege defense tips that aren't just "chuck fire pots"? It doesn't feel like the defenders have any advantage even if the attacker is forced to use ladders, the ladders just slow the action down but the outcome is similar to a normal field battle
>>
>>2282965
>>2282974
The workshop page of whatever mod you want will have a game version number listed. just switch to that version of the game in the steam betas menu.
>>
>>2283025
>Any actual siege defense tips that aren't just "chuck fire pots"?
Nope, thats it. It's the only viable siege defense if they have any decent numerical advantage.
Focus fire on the Ram first. Then see if the siege towers will arrive next to a fire pot storage. If yes, let it hit the walls and toss fire pots. If no, destroy the tower and hope there are fire pots near the ladders
>>
>>2283025
there was an anon claiming to have won siege defenses through marvelous tactics™ by retreating into the streets and shit but it has never worked for me.
i'm not a tactical genius so maybe this is why. idk.
the tactic i came up with was using the ambush option and damaging the siege engines until they have very low health so they are immediately destroyed when the siege scene starts.
you still need to chuck fire pots and have at least your own army full of top tiers to rout the enemy though.

I don't remember these being completely shit, just not good to clear if it wasn't your land and you wanted to play the long game of blighting an area with bandit parties to farm. I'd swear they dropped gear from all the jareeds and star falchions I've picked up in the desert on past playthroughs.

You can also go to half rowers and waddle around circle strafing on the guess you're close enough for archers and throwing spears to actually land. If you are the death ticker is the only ingame feedback you're doing it right. Or get an aimbot fire ballista. I put fire braziers on a support ship and filled it with archers but it sure hasn't lit anything on fire. Ramming also seems pointless even with the triremes, boats have enough health to facetank the naval ram perfect damage bonus and then they just throw grappling lines. With the skill tree being flat damage increases to your troops for naval combat it doesn't seem like taleworlds is even pretending there is more to really do than roll up and dock and kill everyone with your more guys.

In my opinion - Ghurabs.
Dromons are great for archers because of raised decks and theoretically best rammers, cleanest view for ballista too and you will get 80 guys on deck but they're pretty unwieldy. If I had to choose between only Dromons and Dromakions I'd just get a Dromon.
Dromakions are half as heavy so not great for ramming (but ramming isn't great anyway) and gets a whopping one less guy on deck but it doesn't really do anything special, it's also very flat and very low so easy to get shot at while on it. Poor sea-worthiness too. Biggest downside is that you're still a pleb doing his own steering on it.
Ghurabs are faster on world map, have great sea-worthiness. Theoretically slower in perfect wind in battle due to having only lanteen sails but honestly it's just simpler and in ass winds you still have two sails pushing you instead of just one on Dromons/Dromakions. There is a rather big and annoying log and rope in front of your ballista but you can shoot through it. You do get "only" 76 guys on deck but it doesn't really matter that much. They are an Aserai ship but you want to pop down to them for the Wavebreaker ram anyway.
>>

Looks like a castle, fights like a castle. Really good for stacking with archers and thanks to having two decks you can have archers stay safe even when there's fighting on deck but kinda shit for everything else. Suffers from only getting IIRC 66 guys on deck.
And since we're halfway there, Qalguks are similar to Ghurabs but worse in every way and also share low deck capacity with Roundships and Dromakions. Have like half the HP of Dromons, only Drakkars and Lodyas have less in Heavy category.
Drakkars have highest seaworthiness, fastest speed, are shallow draft and can get the most people on deck, which means they're great if you just want to melee fight it out every time but otherwise lose in a fight to anything with artillery.
Lodyas are Drakkars that spent too much time in waters polluted with Imperial sewage and thus develop a ram and battlements upgrades but lose out on speed bonus, little bit of sea worthiness but most importantly a lot of deck capacity. It also has the greatest rowing power IIRC so it might be the greatest small ship ramming bully, except again, ramming kinda sucks. If they had artillery they'd be pretty cool but they're "eh".
>tl;dr
The big boy ship question is between Dromons and Ghurabs. Dromons have slightly better battle stats but Ghurabs have slightly better general usage stats. Realistically doesn't matter unless you were doing ship PvP (are there even ships in MP?).
Roundships are crude but are good bases for spamming archers.
Dromakions and Qalguks are budget versions of Dromons and Ghurabs respectively.
Drakkars and Lodyas exist in their own northern ecosystem that has it's advantages but gets fucked the second whatever they're facing has a ballista.

Ditto. I think they focused too much in "gamifiying" Bannerlord's muliplayer because they thought it made their new game much more impressive and professional, but completely missed out on the casual experience that alot of people liked from the original. Singleplayer has shadows of this too.

They should just have a multiplayer mode to let people mess around with whatever equipment and stats they want with no score or time limit, but I guess this will be restricted to custom servers or something.
>>
What is the use case for kicks and shield bashes?
>>
>>2284534
If you have fast enough attack speed, you can bash them and hit them through their block.
It's useless without perks and levels/
>>
>>2284534
You can kick enemies off walls or overboard in ship battles.
>>
I haven't played this game in too long, I think this is the first time I've seen the ludus not have at least one guy
it's 6 in the morning but still

it's fucking steeped in it. I want to throttle whatever sandroach came up with (((clan tier))) and (((influence)))

Imperial mariner units is really good on both land and sea
>Vlandian for cavalry
I don't think this debate will ever be settled, Vlandian cav has better maneuverability overall but worse defense than Imperial Cataprachts
>Battanians for archers
their Shock troop (the falxman) pardon for the pun "Fa(l)x", their foot skirmisher(wildling) is also okay
>Sturgia
they always were in the weird spot, their noble cavalry doubles as a good foot unit, brigands on horse are decent skirmish unit
infantry is unremarkable, archers are okay now
don't like their current shock troop
>Aserai
they have decent roster it's just not many play them
Cavalry has decent armor overall and not bad stats
shock troop has really nice weapon
skirmishers have jareeds which are nice

This whole clan tier shit alone is part of what makes Bannerlord unbearable.

>lose but gain a ton of EXP from using the catapults and refillable arrows

You know old me would pussy out and load an older save and runaway. But I'm sticking with this.
I'm gonna miss my army of 50 guys. Half of them were tier 4+.

Nords rape me in defensive sieges. Sturgians are meh

This seems kinda busted ngl

vlandia and imps depending on which build of the game and how badly taleworlds fucked up their balancing. Usually when the game isn't broken it's vlandians couching lances during cycle charging and having better weapons for killing other heavy cavalry. Both also hunt down and murder khans guard
>>
wuxia bannerlord.
>>
>>2284931
Literally any cav that you put yourself as commander and have a pike wall banner for that +30%

Just charge one of their wings with a cav/horsearcher doomstack F4 F1 F3 and fuck em up before their infantry stack or their other cavalry wing can catch up
>>
>>2270866
Shieldwall and archers behind it.
Preferably two separate groups, so the enemy has no clue who attack.
Once they are out of arrows (you'd be surprised how fast it goes if you put a proper shieldwall), they are fucking funkies with virtually no staying or hitting power

>>2271784
Pike and shot is terrible to deal with horse archers. Both historically and in-game.
Line infantry and its square > any gun tactic prior to it. And it remained true all the way until bolt-action rifles entered equation (single-shot rifles lacked the sheer volume of fire, even if they were almost there already)
>b-but muh larp
Not my fault you like to larp as a retard. Pike and shot is literally just a tiny step toward proper gun tactics.
>>
>>2285106
>acktually but in a videogaym...
in the real world shields don't stop 90 arrows by virtue of a 520 defense stat and horse archers wouldn't shoot all their arrows then die in melee. If you formed an infantry blob to fight the golden horde they'd just steal your baggage train and burn your country down around you. Fortresses and a heavy cavalry hammer to a skirmish cavalry anvil are how things went down fighting mongols in the 13th and 14th centuries.

Which is why for a 20th back to the drawing board on Sturgia
>they should have horse archers and lance cavalry as the normal tree
>they should have the fastest noble heavy cavalry (only ones able to ride down the kurgits/saranids)
they should actually do well against the east of the map instead of being dumpstered on all fronts while weather debuffs keep them from even being able to defend their own territory.

I'm having jolly time with the ships, i started as an humble Aserai pirate down south raiding merchant vessels with my fleet of cheap tubs. Eventually while searching for easy life i landed at the coast of Vlandia then making my way to the wealthy Empire while rightfully taking back some well earned Vlandian loot that my ancestors originally owned first.
After joining the Empire and eventually gaining my own fief of Itäkeskus i'm currently living off of taxes while i myself liberate neighbouring white supremacists out of extra gold while dreaming of the day i can say "Look at me, im the Emperor now"

It's a perfectly valid trade agreement: You give me everything and in exchange I (probably) won't kill you (I will).

What do trade agreements even do
Like, boost caravan numbers or something between factions?

Pike and shot works great with crossbowmen. I haven't started the expansion yet as I NEED all of my rape and politicking mods, but I bet it'd work great with nord archers too.
>hold fire until horse archers get in range
>tank the first ~3 seconds with shields
>loose a barrage of xbow bolts and watch green fill up the screen
>repeat as they circle my square
Granted, I usually just have two groups instead of four like in my pic because this isn't total war and I don't want to micromanage that much.

That's funny, because I was asking that in order to see if I should even bother updating it. I haven't found BL fun in a long time and it sounds like war sails didn't change much...
>>

it's over.
maybe in 5 more dlcs vanilla will be fun.
1.3 has good additions but they're not enough.
war sails adds ships and changes trading somewhat.
nothing worth a new playthrough.
and they have 1.3.10 beta right now so it's a terrible time to go back into modding.
PNanon sama, nice to meet you!

It's March 18 1258. It's been several week since I entered the hopeless service of the Welsh. We've successfully tricked the king of the Scots into banishing his vassal and lord of Stirling. However, one particular welsh nigger that goes by the name of Dafydd ap Gruffydd keeps instigating wars with everyone. Currently we're sandwiched between Scotland and the powerhouse that is the Gaelic Kingdoms, which has several kings in it. The king of Welsh, and myself are what keeps them from taking the little bit of land we have. I fear that Wales won't survive another year. What makes matters worse, England is not busy with war, so if our friend Dafydd does something, then Wales is lost.

holy fucking shit,
I'm playing vanilla Bannerlord (Warsails)
and I've just learned that once you have a few fiefs (as the king) you can't even vote yourself anymore, You just get 3 random other clans.
So I can't give the clans I want the fiefs I want to give them, or take a fief so I can then raise a companion as a new clan.
I genuinely lose more hope in this game every day
