The gameplay would change over the eras: the global population increases, toymaking technology becomes more sophisticated (and energy-intensive), labor laws vary, government paranoia varies, et cetera. And it wouldn't just be the elves; you'd also have to plan Santa's yearly trip, and take care of the reindeer too.
