New update added cavalry, and there's a free weekend for the full game. How fares your song, syxers?
>>2281725>and there's a free weekend for the full game.Meanwhile, in real world, every day is free, forever
>>2281774to be fair i feel guilty pirating this game. the dev seems like a cool dude
>>2281725>no resource cost for labs or librariesEssential change. Also lmao at cavalry only needing Livestock. Looking forward to crushing all of Syx under the hooves of my invincible hordes of Tilapi Onx-archers.
>>2281874>cav ONLY needs livestockwhat le fuck? Steppe bros we are so back.
I like this game but the world gen leaves a lot to be desired.
>>2281911I think it's okay, and I especially like that you can change the map however you want. I do miss your city having a countryside attached to it like all the others though.
>>2281920It's kind of bad due to the mountains taking everything up leaving not a lot of room. and rivers often going nowhere instead of a body of water. the map is fine though and that's really all that matters. I'd argue the (natural) world gen is the weakest part of the game.
>>2281774pirate vegan
>>2281725for some reason i thought the update after .69 was going to be the last. swear i read it somewhere.anyways its good to see the lab resource change, needing literally thousands of slaves for the clay pits was retarded
>>2282237what will my slaves do now :(
>>2282285Suck pp at the "massage parlour."
Haven't played in a while, but it feelt like this game lacked a flavor and a replay value. I blame that custom building designing. Felt like a cool gimmick initially, but ultimately I just started making copies of what felt like the most optimal building. Each race having unique premade buildings would be a better idea imo.
>>2282724
Just started playing today, I don't get why food production can outstrip consumption but I still am running out of some stocks, nevermind the AI not storing shit away appropriately.
>>2282797Food rots. Especially true for meat, and fish to a lesser extent
>>2282797All resources have a spoilage rate, you are not meant to keep huge stockpiles of stuff in general, but food in particular spoils very quickly. Grain keeps okay as a buffer but once you bake it into bread it spoils quickly, as do all other foodstuffs that can be eaten directly. If you want a bigger stock for safety and to get that "food days" modifier you have to turn surpluses into rations that keep better.
>>2282797>I don't get why food production can outstrip consumptionwhat did he mean by this>the AI not storing shit away appropriatelyyou need to assign warehouse space for each individual resource
Does the dev still make research more tedious with every patch? do I still need to have half my cities population dedicated to researching shit?Does stone and gems still spoil?Does the AI have cities yet or are all battles still open fields and your city is the only one you can fight at?
>>2283137>Does the dev still make research more tedious with every patch?no, its better now in .70>Does stone and gems still spoil?stone and gems spoil at such small %'s you couldnt hardly notice it happening (also just put it in a warehouse dummy)>Does the AI have cities yet or are all battles still open fields and your city is the only one you can fight at?ai does not have cities
slave soldiers whenlet me breed garthimi solely to fight my wars
>>2283153I'm fine with them breaking their backs in the mines and cleaning our toilets
>>2282797No point in producing more food that you will consume or sell unless you plan to store grain/make rations for long-term storage. It's workload you could've used in other way, so concern with producing enough food to meet demand plus a little more in case of unplanned scarcity, and send the rest of the workers to do other stuff.
>>2281774>Hello I pirate games. What was the topic again? They really are the vegans of vidya
its amazing what some benches and flowers will do for making a population not want to go on murderous rampages against other races.
>>2283731
I'm playing through the tutorial while the game is free.Couple questions about later:- How wide do you guys make your paths usually?- Is this one of those games where a diverse population is a detriment? Should I basically stick to a single race?
>>2283968I make most roads 2-3 tiles wide with a tile of grass on either end but that's mostly for aesthetics.>diversityAs long as they're segregated it shouldn't be that big of a deal. Admittedly the only game I ever played with more than one race where the other race weren't slaves was underground Dondorians with Cretonian farmers outside, and those two races get along pretty well anyway.
>>22839683-5 wide, sometimes more for the main paths, mostly so I can add torches benches and other decorations wherever without thinking about itSometimes I read about people having their city destroyed by race riots, but I never had that problem, everyone is in their dedicated neighbourhood with their favorite stuff. I basically always invite cretonians for farming, and usually 1 or 2 other race too
>>2283986>>2284013Thanks senpaitachi.Dunno if I'll purchase it yet, but it's looking pretty good. I'll admit it's hard for me to play any game like this because my brain always just mumbles "Erm bruh just go play Rimworld some more lmao???", but this is a kind of nice intersection between a colony manager and a more impersonal city building game. I like.
>>2283968>- Is this one of those games where a diverse population is a detriment? Should I basically stick to a single race?if you open immigration to all species without dedicated ghettos you will almost certainly see the minorities being murdered off before leaving
>>2283968Diversity is your strength in this game. Monorace cities are a detriment. I usually just bring in other races as slaves though rather than worrying too much about keeping them happy. My main race gets treated like a regular city builder, my other slave races have small ghettos I just build and ignore
>"oh my liege, is that a lavatory on your screen? please enjoy some farting and shitting sounds to accompany the gameplay"
>>2283968multiculturalism is, just like in the real world, the best way to rule your city, all the negative thoughts from racism and hatecrimes absolutely pale in comparison to having 6 times the avalable migrants and population on top of buffing up essentialy every single industry by 20% to 50% thoughput
>>2281774Isn't the demo the latest version anyway?
I'm in the tutorial right now. Why do sometimes resources just appear in the throne room even when my guide doesn't metion gifting them to me? Do I always have an unlimited throne room supply of wood/stone in the tutorial or just for given mission buildings? Also, I'm having a blast reading character's flavour texts and info. Does the game offer some deep lore and world building info later on?
>>2284378>Does the game offer some deep lore and world building info later on?There is a history to all the species and gods, but that's it.
>>2284356When I played it it was a couple versions behind.
>>2283968Don't go nuts on dirt paths. It takes janitors a lot of time to keep them clean.
>>2283968i make my main boulevard 11 units wide and have market stalls, food booths, and random other shit in the middle
>>2284412Shame, my dream city builder would be something with SYX aesthetics and gameplay + dwarf fortress level of lore.
So, how's the new update?
>>2284480Everyone says blackface is bad, but blackdick is the unspoken of hate crime.
>>2284480good
>>2284356The demo is the full game, just a few versions behind. He changes the version of the demo every time he updates the game so its never something wildly outdated>>2281774The dev even has a cute message for pirates at the opening of the game saying to enjoy the game
>>2282032>>2283540>look guys, there is a free weenekd of this free game, go try out>shoo, pirate scumFuck off, you suck at marketing.Free trials only work if you have a well-protected MP game. Neither of which applies to SoS
>>2283968Monorace is much less of a hassle to manage but multirace is more efficient.
>>2285035You don't deserve a video game industry
god i wish there was boats in this game
>still no world conquest speedruns
Finished the second tutorial. Tryna decide what race to start with for my actual first real game. Maybe continue as piggers, but I'm eyeballing the lizard people because I love fish AND lizard races, and the elves because elven city building sounds cool too.
>>2285454I'll recommend my favorite, the amevias and settle on coastal+warm area, it's easy to get tons of food and they don't need many services to stay happy compared to other races
the important question is, is the game still a inflation/maintenance grinding simulator or did the dev finally saw reason and eased up into the ridiculous costs
are humans still OP because u need 60% of the population in labs?is midgame still heavy dwarfs centric because making metals and weapons is the only viable trade profitdo you still lose 80% of your production to inflation and spoilage as a boring rubberband
>>2285454lizard people are my favorite, i love watching them run around with their big tails flailing behind them
>>2285559NoNoYes
>>2285503i dont think maintenance is really a problem unless you didnt scale any industry with your population
>>2285598I always have trouble scaling up as lizards cause I don't get good water maps. Is coast better for that, cause I tend to try for rivers. Or maybe I should try and get both?
>>2285622Coastal fish tiles are twice as good as river fish iirc
>>2285640Well then I should try that then, thank you. Will fix having to scale up fishing at the cost of everything else, at least for a time.
>>2285124>Defending vidya industry in 2003+23I mean I don't blame you - chances are, you were already born into the shitfest and take the bottom of the septic tank as the natural state of affairs.Meanwhile, for the past 15 years I observe how this industry is too big to fall, because a company can release nothing but low-selling drivel... and still maintain solvency. Squenix is the peak example of this without a genre, nu-PDX is the best example of this in /vst/ context.I kinda wish we finally get that long-heralded crisis, because it's getting unbearable. We were THIS close in 2022 for things to finally crash... and unfortunately things rebound
>>2285612The proportion between maintenance and building has been ridiculous for several patches, specially science, but everything else between spoilage and maintenance it becomes silly, a rock building/road doesn't need several times what it took to build it every couple of years of maintenance
Started playing, why do all my humans have of age in the multiple hundreds? Is it a bug or something else
>>2286026are you sure they are humans? the dondorians live for hundreds of years but not humans
>>2286045I accepted a cretonian immigrant and they have an insane age too. the thing is the population tab seems to show a normal age range and average, it's just the individuals' ages seem to be displaying wrong.
Did they fix research? Last i played in september i had like 500 pop, 150 was researchers and 150 was clay mining. That was ridiculous.
>>2286718There's no reason to do research with such a low population though You don't need ressources to do research now apparently, haven't tried the new version yet
>>2286732>You don't need ressources to do research now apparentlyManpower is a resource. Also i really wanted to do research because all the cool stuff was locked behind it like pools, tool usage for buildings and etc. I guess i like going tall than wide.
>>2286734Yes, you need less manpower because you don't need clay/leather Going tall means more population and you're better off having your 150 researchers making more food to attract more migrants, in the last patch I didn't feel the need to start researching to unlock more services until 1500/2000 citizens
>>2281725did it fix the numbers so I can actually play the game?does trade still magically teleport?
>>2286880Getting migrants is way slower without the extra services though.
>>2286936not sure what you mean by trade teleporting unless you're talking about just the money. both manual and automatic trade caused caravans to appear last time i played
>>2287004As I said, I had no problems reaching 1.5/2k with no labs, that was with amevias though maybe the other races need more services idk
so I want to set up a stone mining operation in the north but my city is in the south, whats the best way to do it with citizens? the commute is too long so I was going to make a mini city with homes and services up at the stone quarry, but how do I effectively transfer stone to the city and food to the quarry? I don't have enough money to afford slaves yet
>>2281725Any advice for starting out? I'd like to make a village starting with humans and dwarfs if possible
>>2287265The easy solution: slap down an import depot in your main settlement and buy rocksThe hard solution: use dozens of haulers to keep your outpost supplied and bring back the stone
I played the tutorials and started a lizardfish colony. Got about 75 people before I had to head to work and the free week ended.Had my fun although it got into a rhythm where all I was doing was building houses, expanding my fisheries, and clicking the immigration button. Didn't experience any tech advancement or combat or any of that.I'm torn on buying desu. Fuck.>>2287265I've been wondering similar with some stuff on my end. I have a clay deposit pretty far from my village, so I was unsure if it would be wise to create some housing and a small warehouse there.
>>2287375Me too honestly. I enjoyed it a lot but I’m torn between this and rimworld since I want a strategy management game to spend a lot of time on. What do you guys think?
ah, and here we see the pinnacle of garthimi ingenuity, repurposing the shedded skin of humanoids into parchment, ideal to write witty posts on 4chariots...what do you mean their skin doesnt grow back?
>>2287265>stone to the citytransports, that corner screams for a major quarry however you should do that later when all the rocks have been removed from the map>food to the quarryif you use bug slave labor you can just use a transport to deliver them anything, it doesnt realy matter what but meat gives them a slight obedience boost but that is not realy importantif you use actual citizens, then well, at that point it might be better off building up an entire new food industry from scratch to supply that place, you have a river right next to it, just build enough farms and bakeries to meet demand
>>2287435bee yourself

I'm definitely biased.Rimworld is small colony management, much more personal and personalized; both stand on their own legs completely. It doesn't make me think "I could just be playing Rimworld instead" like a lot of games in the remote hemisphere of these genres typically make me think.>>2287509I'm going to steal this info too. I'll probably just buy the damn game. I was dreaming about it last night, that's usually an indicator I need to play more.
Has anyone tried cavalry? I want to see my big lizards charging on horseback, I'm sure it's great
Is the increased maintenance from a low foundation area worth building on? I have a huge patch of it running through the middle of my map.
I can't escape the furniture trap>always at around zero furniture in stockpile from every fucking building needing furniture to build and maintain>woodcutting and carpentry requires lots of labor>lots of labor requires more food>making enough bread to sustain myself but decay is starting to limit my bread production and my meat pastures aren't really a viable substitute
>>2288078I've never seen foundation lower than 90% so it realy doesn't matter exept for huge expensive buildings>>2287754kinda ass since now defence is now realy powerful and cav lowers that stats, that being said, charges also have been hugely buffed now, so you might use them to circle charge the enemy since charge impact can instantly kill units that are out of formationhave to experiment more
How far can a citizen walk per day?
Did they change something about trade or am I doing a stupid, my export depot keeps emptying my warehouse of fish with seemingly no respect for the threshold
Is it possible to play tall?
What race do you people like to start as?
>>2288689That's just not conquering your neighbors Maybe the other empires will start blobbing and eat you, I never played for long
If democracy is a thing does that mean I can be deposed?
I started making tiny villages near my resources, which lead to adding warehouses, which lead to adding crafters, all of which lead to adding wells, hearths and food stalls.Which is now making me realize that my main actual village area where the throne is serves no purpose besides the main warehouse for exports.I don't know if this was even the smart thing to do, but now it's just a disjointed pile of little areas connected to one dumb area that has some pointless housing, a big training hall and a janitor.Guh.
>>2288819I built some mines a decent distance away from my housing yet the mines say commute isn't an issue and sits at like .95~1.00. I can't tell if the game isn't properly calculating commute lost or if commute distance isn't actually bad.

How do I delegate works that I want the ugly warthog men to do? (Crandorians?)
>>2285727Well said.
>>2285727Sir, this is a Song of Syx thread. >>2288819I just use slaves for that shit. You barely have to supply them with shit
>>2288423this was an issue for me in the last patch, mostly with clay for whatever reason. i think turning fetch on or off on the warehouse or the depot fixed it

>>2288945My population is like 200, I've barely started..I need to give these fuckers something to do anyways. My fishing industry can only take so many bodies.I only just discovered after about 8 hours of fucking around mostly in the tutorial, that I can place multiple crating spots inside buildings instead of having to make a series of buildings for the same damn output, fuck.
I have like 50 people living in my city, I have enough food, everyone is very happy, what the fuck do I even do now?
>>2289003Make it to 100 to unlock more stuff. Start working on map resources. Start checking out your technology. Set up trade. Click the throne room to see what the different levels of rule are and what they give.
Why are humans so fucking shit? they need jewelry, pottery, fucking eggs and mushrooms, they're criminal and go insane
>>2289019Expand to the gems bit then? I did mean to turn that place into a Dondorian ghetto
>try a fake battle to see new combat>200 Vs 200, just 2 piece of armor and weapon and some training >noone die>not dying so much that battle is over only after morale reach 0Uh, whatMaybe hammers are better? That was with sword, shield and steel armor
>>2289328there are barley casualities in battles now and morale is now paramount meaning that flanking and timed charges are supreme now instead of numbers aloneI did some testing in quick battle and found out that hammers are basicaly the best weapon all arround because of its force multiplier and the fact that it does more pierce damage than even steel armor can negateFlaxi sound strong on paper and give the biggest boost in force projection(used in autoresolve) but the moment the enemy equips any kind of armor all the slash damage gets negated and you are left with only the charge bonusswords plainly suck, even combined with shilds, the weakness of shields is they only increase block which only applies when the enemy actualy misses its attack against your defence so its effect is quite minimalbows where nerfed to shit
>>2289423cont.mounts are intersting, they boost attack and charge but greatly deminish defences, they do realy exel with hamer and amboss tactics, where you rear charge enemies while they are busy fighting other units. charges are devistating and kill a lot of people and causes tons of morale damage, i managed to destroy an army almost twice the size of mine with that tactic, this might become the new meta since archer cheese is dead nowalso i forgot spears, they only realy provide you with a defence bonus for staying on formation which is funnily enough more useful than the shield
>>2289453Are battles fun now?
>>2289453Been doing some testing as wellFun stuff, you can actually make horse archers, launch a volley, then charge, fall back and repeatLooks like flanking is basically the only way to make any progress
>>2289487its surprisingly balanced, there is no great cheese or exploit that I've found beside some balance issues, pic related is me circle charging with a cav unit to break an enemy with supperior numbers and weapons, its not an automatic "I win button" since cav is very vurnable while charging and often broke after being stuck between soldiers but that makes it engaging enough to actualy fight the battles properly and not just throw everyone at the enemy, especialy now since units being in intact formations matters a lot now>>2289530flanking is now very important, not only you do huge moral damage, attacking someone from the flank also bysteps defence calculations compleatly, Its actualy a bit too powerful now at least how I understand itand while horse archers are kinda cool you could already do that back then on foot, I don't realy see that much improvement desu
I am happy to announce that archer cheese is still possiblenot only that, its is actualy way better now than it used too because archers can now pick up spears as a side arm, turning them into an impregnable wall when the hit and run phase endsthe decreased ammo might look like a heavy nerf but since units are now way more impacted by losses, their actual usefulness has only slightly decreased
The first raid is taking fucking forever to kill now with just a barely trained squad... And they spawned a catapult in my city somehow
So whats the best food source? I made some pig farms but they ain’t doing shit. Should I just do fruit farms for the elves? Also its worth it to build a woodcutter even if I have a shitton of wood?
>>2289639hunters in early game, they are limited to 15 employees before they start deminishing their returns, then you should do pig and cow pastureselfs like orchards more, they take 3 years to set up but have like 3 times the yeld of normal fruit farms especialy with elfs managing them
>>2289639fisheries are insane if you have ocean tiles
>realize I should have built my main road vertical instead of horizontal>would have to destroy and rebuild the homes and industries of about half my population of 800 to fix it>not even sure if the optimization will be noticeable compared to now
Are there going to be more threads of this game. I just discovered and its a lot of fun. Want to keep talking about it :)
Are any of the resource multipliers worth researching early on? Is it better to research raw resource output or refined?
Someone explain how tf the tech tree in this game works. Whats the difference between innovation and knowledge? What does it mean covering cost of tech? What should I even focus on?
>>2289962It's just two different resources for unlocking different techs>covering cost of tech? Not sure, it's probably referring to the amount of lab workers you need to maintain a tech>What to focusFirst, whatever you decide to mass produce for exports, probably something that your race is already good at so you can stack bonusSecond, unlock new services when your happiness isn't at 100%Everything else is situational, except for some basic stuff like guards, roads, and hospitals so your city doesn't die
>>2289896No this was the last one
Weird how this game hasn't been solved like Factorio yet.
>>2290317Some autists had hyperoptimized grid cities with tens of thousands of pops. Way beyond what a normal run can achieve, but the game balance changes too much between versions for there to be stable meta strats working at that high level.
>>2290323>Some autists had hyperoptimized grid cities with tens of thousands of pops.Got any vids or images?
>>2289914Farming and woodcutting seem like the best early researches. They have no cost besides labor and you have dozens if not hundreds employed in it so you get lots of value out of a few levels to power the furniture and food economy
>>2290488>woodcutting My warehouse is constantly overflowing with wood just from expanding my city, and if I ever run out of wood, I just clear cut the nearest forest patchImo best early research is your preferred food of choice, roads, and some industry/cash crop relevant to your race Also soldier training speed might be necessary if you don't want to pay off the first raiders, I took 2 levels and my squad of 50 was ready only a couple days before they attacked me
i think people who struggle hard with the mid game are just not trading or using slaves
>>2290570admittedly both are systems i haven't explored yet because i'm still trying to figure out research and mining
Someone spoonfeed me on how I should play liggersCoastal town with canals running through the middle of every road? Mass exporting fish before it spoils?
>>2290607yeah, thats pretty much italso Globdien to corner the egg market, you are the only race that can produce them reliably
>>2290623Based, I've played them a little before but I struggled to transition into a proper 'city' at around 1k+ pops because of all the planning for water and the face that canals need pumps etc.Sounds like there was a change to water access recently so might go better this time around
I know the races are very racist in this game but, how hard is it to put them all in one city? Just slap ghettos around the map and everything is good?
>>2290574Research is a noob trap (and old player trap too)It's more of a late game thing, you don't need labs for a long time in the latest versions
>>2290638Just a bit of murdering here and there but you should be fine if they are mostly separated
>>2290639aw manat least i know now
>>2290639thats just not true. you cant even get paved roads or archers without a laboratory
>>2290674I'm around 450 amevia atm, there's 100 immigrants waiting for houses to be built, I got something like 100 free research points from ranks and half of it was spent on fishing techYou do not need labs early game, roads are worth 5 fucking points
So spearmanni rectangles to hold the center and cav for rear flanking once the lines meet?Genuinely so happy the dev decided to add a bit more to battles
>>2289962>What does it mean covering cost of tech?the tooltips are basically saying if you buy this tech, your production will increase as if you had employed x extra workers in that industry. so if maintaining that tech costs you more than x lab workers, you're actually hurting yourself by buying it.i recommend just using this mod https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3352452572
>>2283146>ai does not have citiesSad, waiting for that to happen.
>>2289453>>2289423Huh seems pretty grounded honestly
My only gripe is that with a population max of 12k in your city I don't really understand how we'll ever see truly grand battles with battle lines spanning the entire screen.I guess there's mercs?
>>2290767Many years ago the dev said that when he stops breaking saves with every patch, he wants players to upload their cities. Then whenever you attack an AI city the battle map will be one of those player made cities.Dont know if that is still the plan or not but I hope so.
>>2290786That sounds amazing if you can pick and choose the cities to filter out the sovlless ones. Not sure how it would work with the map though, and town generation I don't think could ever be good or look nice but it is a possibility too.
So the pastures of Balticrawlers require no maintenance, meaning i can just build a giant square as big as i can without inner walls?
Are you excited for the soft-confirmed necromancer playthrough with skeleton undead cities?
>200% more fishCatch fish get richIm breaking through the inflation wall aaaaaah
>>2290882Sounds like a dlc considering how different it would be to normal gameplay.>no food if skelletons, maybe meat consumption if zombies>need to raise more dead to expand population, which could anger other factions>necessitation of early war to acquire new corpses?>introduction of a magic system?>how do the various faiths react to necromancy?>new magical race?>other supernatural qualities such as vampires or transforming beasts?>diplomatic implications
>>2291003Yeah from the recent interview he did I think it would be a DLC as he was talking about DLC surrounding that topic.Apparently a necromancer trying to destroy the world is part of his canon so he doesn't consider the game complete unless it has a necromancer playthrough in it.
I wish wooden walls weren't so fuckin' ugly.Hard to enjoy Tilapi and Cretonian when I gotta look at that SHIT.
>>2290784There's conscripts from provinces but you still need to supply them iircHopefully the empire side of things will get more developed so you can get more than raw ressources from your provinces
>Start Tilapi game>Decide at start to do humans too because why not>turns out Tilapi are the only people humans really hate>Tilapi not fond of humans either, though they like Cretonianswell fug, but I'll be damned if I ever allow P*ggers in my city.
>>2291012It would be very cool to have some recruitment provinces that you feed a little bit so they can produce good quality soldiers en masse
>>2291013just keep them appart and you gonna be fine
>>2291012>>2291015Multi city
Whats the best way to start getting resources that are far away from the main city? Do I just start building a new city near those resources with whatever building actually needs them?
>>2291101That's what I do, I don't know if it's the BEST way to do it (Taxation/Import probably wins out) but I like to create a little mining village and then supply them with amenities and services. You can use transports to haul it back to the main depot if it's a lot of stuff but I think haulers work just as well too.The neat part of doing this is over time all these little villages start to expand and grow and your city sort of forms organically over the years
>>2290881yes, unless something changed this patch. i didn't even realize you could build walls on pastures and always wondered why they cost so much to build until recently
