>Your majesty, your new kingdom awaits!
Majesty 3 Never ever
>>2289167The problem with every “Majesty-like” game is simple: none of them have the balls to push the formula forward. They all Xerox the original in this boring, sanitized way, same heroes, same buildings, same shallow loop. Nobody want to commit and give their heroes actual personalities. God forbid if the kingdom didn’t revolve around you spamming recruitment buttons. One of the best settings in Majesty sandbox mode was the one where you didn’t recruit heroes at all, they just showed up if your kingdom at the border randomly and it was interesting enough. That’s the real direction these games should be taking.Imagine a system like this:Your actions create “adventurer gravity.”Spam attack flags everywhere, stir up danger, leave the wilds unexplored? You attract hunters, rangers, explorers, people who want chaos.Fully explore the map and secure everything? Those same hunters pack their bags and leave because your kingdom is too safe and boring. On the other side, if your kingdom has not enough stability, it's the workers who start to leave. And what about factions? Attract too many thieves and suddenly paladin orders, holy knights, maybe, start treating your kingdom like a den of corruption and even become aggressive towards those thieves guilds.Your kingdom is attracting too many high level monsters? The more coward heroes leave your kingdom.Instead of >click to recruit a warriorYou build a Warrior Guild and hope the kind of warrior you WANT decides to join. When they die, you don’t just buy another identical copy. Have too many dead heroes in your graveyard and Necromancers heroes start to ask to come.Right now, every Majesty imitation devolves into “build the most hero factories and drown problems in bodies.” There’s no strategy, just production. But a system based on attraction, reputation, danger, and personality? That would turn the whole genre into an actual strategy game instead of a hero dispenser simulator.
>with indie gaming you can play a modern iteration of a game from 3 decades ago!>with some random changes for copyright reasons and all of the humor removed like elf prostitution, funny unit responses and fantasy racism>but other than this it plays basically EXACTLY like MajestyWhat's even the point? Why was this game even made?
>>2289429That actually sounds more interesting. Like proper dungeon keeper where heroes come because of how you run your kingdom and how well you support each class or race.
>>2289429not gonna read your ai post!
>>2289429>>2289503Devs, if you're monitoring thes threads, here's a gameplay loop you could follow and make the formula more interesting. You start with your Castle and a number of serfs. These serfs will work on whatever you decided to build, build guard towers and they'll become guards, build workshops and they'll become builders, build inns and they'll become innkeepers, build trading posts and they'll take the opportunity to build trade caravans. As long as they keep doing that activity they'll gain XP just like heroes, and become better builders, better merchants, better miners, so you have an incentive to keep your serfs alive. To attract more serfs it's simple, they just want job prospects, the more job opportunities the more serfs will migrate to your kingdom. They will spawn as settler caravans at the edge of the map and try to make their way to your castle. It's your job to make the road safe, be it with watchtowers, guards, inns, and heroes with the defend and new patrol flag.Talking about heroes, different heroes will have different preferences, one sure way to attract more heroes is to build a guild of the respective heroes you want. Other than that, inns, blacksmiths, fairs, arenas and lots of flags will attract more and more heroes. Of course, according to your action you'll attract different kinds of heroes, build churches and holy orders will join, have a rich kingdom and thieves will come, have an unexplored map and ranger will take the initiative. Finally give complications for each heroes their flaws made them interesting on Majesty, start with the rogues, they follow flags easily, they give you an extortion ability but they also make your serfs unhappy and rob your vaults, Rangers will mostly explore and avoid attacking lairs, and later they'll will take expeditions out of the map, being unavaiable, honestly, there's so much you can do, but I feel like these new games are afraid of taking too much of the player's agency over the heroes.

>>2289429I like the whole hero attraction idea but really, this is the key bit why all these sequels suck:>boring, sanitized way>Nobody want to commit and give their heroes actual personalitiesMajesty is a fine coffee break game but it's carried HARD by how much soul it oozes. The devs had fun and truly cared about designing the heroes, writing their lines and having their personalities show through AI. The emphasis put on VA work only works further to sell it.Then you have shit like Lessaria where the heroes all look the same, have nothing memorable to say and are voiced by fucking AI gen.All these new devs think Majesty is about plopping down flags, tactically casting spells and racing the AI in active body count. It is not. It's about hearing "I'M MEELTIIIIING" for the hundredth time and going "them fucking wizards man, lmao".
>>2289681Why Majesty wizard>I'M MEEEELTING Is acceptable but Lessaria wizard>It's LevioSAAAAIs not?
>>2289681You're thinking about Crown Of Greed, Lessaria went to 11 with the quirkness. It's the AI of the heroes which is kinda bland
>>2289429>>2289619>>2289681Oh fuck you all. You beg for decades for more Majesty and when it drops something as close as possible to it, including the advisor VA you turn coat like this. You really don't deserve something better.
>>2289697>Heroes look all the same.Mf didn't even SEE the game.
>>2289429>The problem with every “Majesty-like” game is simple: none of them have the balls to push the formula forward. They Are Billions and clones are the next iteration of Majesty-likes.
>>2289697Haven't played the game so the only real complaint I have is that it looks like Worldof/Warcraft 3. I can probably still play it to judge it more fairly but I am not a fan of "Inhuman evolved"-tier graphics.
>>2289167Make a Mughal empire mod called listeria
>>2289429>They all Xerox the original in this boringNope. They all xerox Majesty 2.But in all honesty? If we were to make an actual successor to Majesty, then we do this:>Divide the map into two. A kingdom map where you can go and build your stuff, and a larger overworld that is the rest of the map (kinda like that 3Kingdoms RTS from early 2000s). Your kingdom is not the only one with a dedicated map and neighboring ones will also have such maps.>Everything around your castle is one big city state and can practically build everything...be warned however not to build structures that belong to those of opposing alignments will cause riots and even fight in the open (especially religious groups with them rallying the citizens).>Heroes now have additional character quirks (both positive and negative) that further affect their classes. Heroes can also interact with NPC citizens and start their own families. Bonus if they die and their kid take up their legacy (thus giving you a free hero to replace your dead one).>Each guild can be upgraded to level 3 and each upgrade opens the ability to recruit more hero types while increasing by 2 the ones from the previous level. Some guilds can be changed via specializations which allow to recruit wholly different types of heroes.>The party mechanic from M2 is included to be more organic and has the number of heroes increased to 6. Apart of leveling themselves, a hero party will have its own level mechanic where heroes unlock new team abilities (and over time can even eliminate prejudices and dislikes if the party has members of opposite alignments).>Monsters can now adapt to you and your kingdom and come in much larger numbers. Wolves will hunt in large packs, ratmen will sneak into your city and avoid guard towers and heroes while stealing your stuff (and if they amass enough numbers, they will also go and kidnap your citizens and cause havoc...same with goblins) and much more.TBC.
>>2289429>>2290862>You as the king can now issue special edicts that modify how your kingdom operates (improve the effectiveness of economic buildings, makes guards go through extra training to make them tougher beatsticks, actually adding a guard retinue to tax collectors, etc.), unlock new technologies by giving them the green light (like allowing your heroes to purchase side-arms like pistols, allow wizards to experiment with creating powerful artifacts, unlock wholly new buildings and specialized upgrades for your structures, etc.)...or even change your personality that will affect everyone in your kingdom (will you be lawful or will you be more of a romantic, will you be a tyrant or a saint, will you be more down-to-earth or will you become a god-king...or maybe you can find the middle ground and much more).Would be honestly interesting.
>>2289859they are nothing whatever like majesty. You have complete control of your units.
>>2289255Good. The Majesty franchise (including spinoffs) has been going downhill since the very first one, so a modern Majesty is inevitably going to be shit.
>>2290924Majesty was never good.It was just charming.Your heroes are supposed to have this "personalities" they can buy items, upgrade their equipment, delve into dungeons kill monsters and level up.And you never get to see it.Because you're always busy with ratmen or the next wave of enemies that never end, so you need to keep your ears open to hear "I'm meeeeeeelting" so you know it's time to click the hero guild and churn more heroes for the hero grinder!Shitty games desu.
>>2291410and yet it souls
>>2290884>You have complete control of your units.that's the crucial innovation which makes them not suck like Majesty
>>2291410Try playing/at least studying the game you pretend to know. You can clearly see differences in hero personalities when you see which heroes attack their own barracks for enemy's bounty and which don't.
>>2291475Majesty isn't tower defence.
>>2291627I'm sure they do, and I'm sure it would be awesome to see if I'd not be too busy spamming the recruit heroes button while I cycle through the guilds because ratmen and waves of spongy monsters keep killing them.I played the game, anon, the loops is RPM ECONOMY so you can RPM HEROES so they can fight hp sponges so you can RPM more heroes.>LEAVE MY GOLD ALONEx100>I'm MEEEEELTINGx10000000>>2291629It might as well be.
>>2291847APM*Shit now any replies will hyperfocus on this.
