Bought this on a steam sale, anything I should know before starting?

This 4X is very-very much war focused. Expect constant long term wars and battles all around and that most game mechanics will always cycle back towards warfare.

Uhuh so no turtling then?
Might be a bit hard since I usually default to it but I supposed trying something new can't hurt
>>
>>2302859
Eh you can sorta turtle, in a way. If you slap some ranged units in a fortified area or form defensive fronts, maybe.
>>
>>2303351
Pisses me off to no end that you cannot use turtle strats effectively to deal with the final battle scenario, made even worse due to the Emulated Mind not only stuck with 1-2 cities, but the cannon is weak as fuck, especially by the endgame with all research into it, shit range too.

The game actively rewards you for taking territory, you gain XP for killing neutrals (assuming your units don't die) and there are a lot of outpost tiles that will give you resources for owning them. On top of that the goal of the game is annihilation of your enemies via an endgame scenario, usually splitting up on tech affinity lines (human-aligned factions being something of wildcards) but you can also just declare war on the world and try to stand alone at the end of it all.

Yeah a lot of my success against the endgame boss units involves stocking nukes. On occasion, I've managed to lure and isolate a boss unit inside one of my cities full of units to kinda gang up and overwhelm them. But what pisses ME off to no end is that the two endgame factions rarely clash. They almost always seem to set aside their differences to shit on me even if it's inconvenient.

I bet without looking that this is 3/5 on steam
>>
>>2303614
Well its the same devs, but I bought it because I liked it when playing a pirated copy and find setting to be really cool
Well that and Zephon is more aggressive
>>2303618
4.5, actually

nice blogposting, thank you for wasting more space

How DO you deal with endgame, actually? Get yourself a ton of nukes and ranged units?
>>
>>2302859

Hell no. You should turtle to a certain degree.
However you should take over as many resource nodes as it is possible.
Constantly research and upgrade, keep morale and population on a fine level along with steady resources.

Also if you get to snowy territories or start in one of them, then make sure you go and beat an Abkhan (it's a bigass dragon creature). Beat it and you get free exp for your troops, resources and maybe an item. it respawns from its lair...which is free real estate at this point.

Well I spawned in a wasteland syrrounded by deserts and ruins, those surrounding areas have a shitton of chips...only problem is that I am playing the Count
>>
>>2302859
Depends on map gen and your faction.
Humans can turtle very well
Cyber are ok
Ayys are shit
>>
>>2306531
I chose ayys because I thought they looked the most interesting...
>>
>>2303582
Hence why I torrented it.
>>2304787
Realistically I play both factions and have above average disposition with them along with whatever neutral cunt leaders on the map. Leaders will be predisposed to certain factions, but the game will attempt to balance it out based on your leanings. For example:
>Work with ZEPHON and but somewhat friendly
>The game will try to lock you with it for the final battle to 'balance the board'
>Stock nukes and assess the board, side with the strongest faction
Ultimately it feels fucking gross.
>>
>>2306516
Darn. If there was at least one algae-generating resource node then it would've been tolerable. This however is a rough start.
>>
>>2308425
Well wasteland does give good amount of algea and there is flesh tree and that temple node nearby, had to get into a lengthy slugfest with Zephon for it tho but no matter, I managed it
>>
>>2309917
Sweet. Now you have a stable position.
Now all you need is to make two more cities and make sure they expand enough to have them pump out enough resources and grunts for you.
