I'm wondering if I should just move my capital to Bursa instead of staying in the interior of Anatolia

>>
>>2318560
According to reddit a province producing all input goods will net you a 10% production bonus, ignoring the quantity of Local output and input. Which, if I understand it correctly, means you can build a city on every tile in attica, fill them with fine cloth and tool shops, then inport all the iron from the swamps of Ukraine and Bulgaria and Silk from Thracia and still get the production bonus
>>
>>2318562
I am nust guessing but I assume you used levies and they attacked you on a fort for that +2 defense bonus (+3 if across a river(
>>
There is an extreme shortage or Irin through the first third of the game and then a ridiculous surplus due to all Iron and Rgo advances. Think they spent a total of 1 manhours thinking through RGOs
>>
Does eu5 have anything like imperator did, where the capitals region got a bonus and the capital province got an additional bonus?

Yep. Like so many automation features it's stupid to the point of being more annoying than doing the clicks yourself. When I start pumping out fleets mid age 2 I use 12-15 light ships in each sea province to build up presence, then reduce them to ~8 when they hit 100 because you only need to maintain the value now. Always have a young admiral. My edge tiles always go down to 98/99 but that's fine, I've played enough factorio to accept cheaper solutions that are "only" 95% efficient.

I still don't really get how the economy in this game works. Should I be building as many marketplaces as every town I have can support and maxing out all my RGOs? Focusing on control? Is it normal that my estates blow all their money on their goods needs and never build anything?
>>
>>2318822
Max out RGOs.
That's what I've found makes me money early game.
>>
>>2318822
Maxing out RGOs and building things with trade capacity for as long as there are decent trades available is pretty much it.
You can mix in some burgher buildings, but you have to be a bit careful because the price of that stuff crashes pretty quickly if you build too many.

>If an RGO makes more than .3 ducats and almost has enough pop to start working it, build it
>If a burgher building makes more than .3 ducats and almost has enough pop to start working it, build it
>Scriptoriums are always good. Books help you learn gooderer
>Build 2 to 4 extra towns near your capital on low-value RGOs, don't go overboard or you'll crash prices and make your burgher estate needlessly more powerful
>Cities can build two things at once, towns one. Is this ever communicated to the player?
>Road are extremely good for locations within two or three 'rings' of your capital. Can easily net 20 or 30 control, especially if going through bad terrain. Always measure roads from the capital, and build each segments from the less important location to avoid slowing down the building of important RGOs or burgher buildings. A road in a location with a river lets you build a bridge for even more control
>Unlocking buildings that require input good are economic power spikes: they induce demand, which you then get paid to supply. Armories in the Professional Soldiers tech tree are your first big example of these. This is another reason scriptoriums are good, they demand paper
>Lumber, masonry, and glass are very common goods needed to construct buildings, and building is cheaper if you have stockpiles of them. Intentionally overbuild and prioritize them. Make commoner buildings if you have too. Import lumber at a lose if you have too. It's that important
>Estates start making good things as the economy builds and they get real cash on hand. Sometimes they still make garbage but you'll also see them build universities
>Max out your legitimacy slider day 1 and never move it. Bigger number = bigger buffs, and whenever it hits 100 the price automatically goes down to just enough to keep it at 100
>Set all your vassals (always one province each) on Scutage for extra money. You can still always call them into war if you need them

Change your societal values!!!
>>
>first of the month ledger says I'm making 50 gold
>jumps around between 30 and 90 gold through the month
>end of the month ticks I lose roughly 10 gold
>briefly flashes to show this amount before going 'positive' again.

Alright what the fuck?
>>
>>2318822
the other advice you've gotten is largely very good, but there's one more aspect: food

high-producing food locations should be given as much care and attention as towns (and should share provinces with them)

Ran out of space.
Expect to use one of your cabinet slots changing Societal Values for the first 60-80 years of the game. Minmaxxing these is extremely valuable for snowballing. Plutocracy is the most important, Innovative and Communalism are tied for second. You will probably need laws to help push your equilibrium the right direction, those are the priority of your first 3 or 4 parliaments; things like Burgher controlled mining and Favor the rich are fantastic at game start, I don't change to Favor the ruler for another few decades. Remember that changing a value by .2/month is twice as good as .1/month, while going up another .1 to .3 is only a 50% increase. If you have 80 aristocracy to undo before you even hit 0 Plutocracy, you want to speed that up. Use Glorp UI, it makes it easy to see where your value equilibriums are.

With Plutocracy kneecapping noble power and Communalism reducing Revoke privilege cost, you can start breaking the estates after 30 or 40 years. There are two crown estate parliament issues that give you temp crown power, one for 10 years and one just while parliament is going. Higher crown power = lower estate power = lower revoke cost. Stack these and abuse them if you get the chance. Always revoke from the most powerful estate, start with the ones that grant the most power.

Revoking a privilege also decreases that estate's satisfaction by 40%. So if you were taxing them to 50% and revoke they go down to 10%. The lower the % the faster rebels spawn and the longer it takes to reach 50% again. Intentionally reduce their taxes and get satisfaction up to ~60% ahead of time to avoid any issues - once the estate is back to ~35% the rebel growth is low enough that you'll be fine. For the years their satisfaction is in the gutter you can max-tax them, just always keep equilibrium above current. Take advantage of random events that give +10% estate satisfaction.

YOU can have 50% crown power and be making 80 ducats a month by 1400
>>
>>2318839
>>2318846
This all sounds pretty good. I should specify that I'm playing as Korea, and it's 1444, so I haven't just started. I'm spending all my money now on maxing out my marketplaces. My gravel road network is already pretty good so I'll start boosting the high value trade good RGOs until I unlock barques to clear all the pirates out of my coast and get some maritime presence.

Also, how important is it to be culturally and religiously homogeneous? My country is full of Jurchens with Tungusic Shamanism, but they're mostly tribesmen in the northern provinces I don't have any control over anyway. Should I be converting/assimilating/settling them or can I safely ignore as long as they're not rebelling?

Releasing them and annexing like the other guy said is one way, the other is to get stronger and get some positive modifiers. You can take some medium sized one with good loyalty and send in loyalists and stuff to just that one to get it to loyal to then annex which weakens the rest too.
>>
>>2319044
>so that'll take forever.
The more you remove from the map the easier it gets with the rest. Also, try to annex the bigget ones first. I had pains annexing Baghdad, basetax 350, but that fucker was tanking the rest of my vassals for at least -5 on its own.
Don't hesitate to actually throw them out, it's viable, just reconquer them again, they exist to convert and assimilate, not to draw money from them.

My initial setup was to release pretty much everything that wasn't immediately near Paris, I've since gradually annexed a lot of vassals but it is tempting to go back because it was a lot more comfy staying small. I don't have the patience to micromanage buildings in my cities and I don't want to overproduce shit either by just mass building textile/paper everywhere. It would require consolidation then re-releasing vassals but it could be a fun playthrough to divide up France into vassals of each respective area and then just play tall in Ile-de-France proper

It's not mentioned in the description, but generals/admirals get picked with higher regularity, so you can actually influence who you want to have, and dynasty members from other countries can also get the job! You can for example make vassals, put your own crown members in charge and keep marrying with them, that way you can circumvent the soft limit on character number Paradox put into place.

It's Age of Revolutions so the crashes are getting worse and worse, time to wrap this campaign up and put it to bed
I wanted this run to be tall-ish and focusing on urbanizing with the Capital Economy slider and I wasn't disappointed - especially since the locations in the Netherlands proper have great availability for Bog Iron + Lumbermill loops.

Various stats:
>2.03M Burghers (wish I could separate those that are in the mainland from those that are overseas)
>65% Christian population, to give an approximation of non-overseas pop - but keep in mind I converted a fair amount of Indonesians pops
>3073 monthly tax from Burghers without the Parliament boost
>2071 trade income, mostly thanks to Big Cloves
>311K pops in my most populated loc, Brugge - ironically my heartland around Amsterdam is only 120Kish pop per location in spite of having been cared for much more
>highest potential tax base location: 394 in Rotterdam (mostly thanks to Chili RGO, plus a normally built city capped on building slots)
>1524 Cloth and 776 Fine Cloth worth of Supply in the Amsterdam market
>114 units of Cloves imported to Amsterdam from the Ternate Market
>786 Grand Marketplaces built
>669 units of Fiber Crops required in the Amsterdam Market for paper, cloth and more
>Sliders that made it above 90: Free Subjects, Capital Economy
>Average literacy 70.16%

For my next run I'm torn between a very colonial-focused one (even though I know how deeply flawed colonies are, it'll probably fine if I stop playing before Age of Revolutions) or a very small trade-focused run

it requires you to increae your crownpower by a flat +20%. so if you have already doing well and got 60-70 crown power it'll be close to impossible to actually finishing
>>
>>2319528
The disaster itself is really easy, you mostly just set up the first few years with the interactions to get rid of the privileges and then wait for the 10 year timer to tick and it's over. It gives helpful events that push centralization and absolutism on the way so it's pretty nice. It's just that the completion requirements is determined dynamically which means that sometimes it's just effectively impossible if not outright impossible the better you are doing the more difficult it gets. At worst you may have to demolish all of your city buildings to get rid of burghers to get that last bit of crown power sometimes that's not enough. If you sandbag just before the even starts you don't really have to do anything.

Also some of them push you towards stuff like serfdom and are things I'd want to keep, but I may be wrong in my line of thinking and would like counterpoints. Do I just start moving towards an Absolutist-Centralist state from this point on? The proximity cost reduction of centralization is tempting and I have so many buffs to vassal loyalty I don't think that it matters anymore. Even if I can't make use of vassals for integration purposes I'm strong enough to just hold on to conquered areas and only integrate the ones I want to develop. Also as CHYNA bare in mind stability and legitmacy absolutely cannot go below 30 and 50 respectively due to me not wanting to pay the majority of my income to maintain celestial authority.

Why is fur so worthless? Wasn't the furtrade huge?
>>
>>2319824
Too many fur RGO's
Not enough uses for fur.
Can't really do anything about it. It's a problem with the 1 RGO per province system. If you remove fur RGO's you have to add something more to replace them. If you increase demand you brick areas that don't have fur.
>>
>>2319826
Correct but if their base price was higher, they'd be traded once in a while
>>
>>2319826
The demand just seems way too low, fur clothing was used by everyone not just nobility and burghers. Also why are potatoes labourers and peasants only? Does that at least change with events? Even if it was a low class food other social classes should have some consumption.
>>
>>2319826
Russia gets an event that raises demand for furs, I think that should fire for everyone in Europe or be hard coded in.
>>
File: file.png (706 KB, 673x776)

Actually why isn't everygood demanded by every strata? If this means what I think it means pops don't demand something they can't afford so wouldn't a peasant that can afford tea and has access to tea consume it? What are these arbitrary limitations on who demands what good they don't make sense. Poor people in America wore tons of furs because it was widely available but the same wasn't the case in europe so obviously it was limited to hats for those not wealthy enough. Also why don't cultures have different consumption rates for goods? What about indian vegetarianism, islamic tabboo on alcohol, and those eastern jews that all wore fur hats? Germans also consumed shittons of meat, at least according to the romans but that likely changed with feudalism.
>>
>>2319826
I had a quick look and apart from some Russian-only buildings the only demand for Fur is from Pop demand.
To consume 1 unit of fur (so the output of one RGO level, before modifiers), you need:
>10 000 nobles
>200 000 burghers
So even if you have something like France with 100K nobels and 1M burghers, you're using something like 15 units of Fur, so one mid-game RGO.
France has 2 Fur RGOs.
So seems like a balancing issue?
>>
>>2319827
>Correct but if their base price was higher, they'd be traded once in a while
Base price doesn't really impact that. The difference in prices between markets does. The only thing higher base price would do is make money printing with 0 sales easier.

>>2319828
>fur clothing was used by everyone not just nobility and burghers
Maybe in the north. Vast vast majority of clothes were made from plant fibers and wool. Sure lot of people may have had a piece of clothing that had fur in it but it wasn't some kind of peasant staple except in areas where the peasants could hunt them themselves. Fur trade just has an outsized historic impact because you can't farm furs economically while most people sourced clothes mostly locally from things they had access to.

>Even if it was a low class food other social classes should have some consumption.
Why?
Rich people often refused to eat things that poor people had to eat. You couldn't catch a Roman nobleman eating oats.

>>2319835
You don't seem to understand how the system works.

>>2319840
>So seems like a balancing issue?
It's more of an issue on how the RGO's work. RGO's can't change (except by events and Colombian exchange) so early game RGO placement has to cover both pre black death, post black death and late game and has to account for early RGO maxing by player and low RGO levels. Fur in particular suffers because furs can't run out from developed parts of Europe where fur could still be plentiful early on but totally hunted down by the late game. If you remove the furs from France then the economy implodes because you can't trade with Russia yet but if you have them then France is self sufficient with furs.
>>
>>2319841
>Why?
It's mathematically an impossibility, there is always an exception in nature and nothing is 100%. It should exist even if it is very low.
>>
>>2319842
Extremely dumb thing to say about a video game.
>>
>>2319844
It's also historically false, after a brief search. It should at least become acceptable sometime at the end of the games period.
>>
>>2319841
Fur hats were common in eastern europe amongst all strata, yes likely because of the fur trade but still having no demand is absurd because if they are cheap enough and available there is no reason they wouldn't be used by the poor. You also contradict yourself by admiting they did in fact have fur demand. Demand that should be in the game considering how cheap they are when historically that was not the case outside early north america and russia.
>Fur in particular suffers because furs can't run out from developed parts of Europe where fur could still be plentiful early on but totally hunted down by the late game. If you remove the furs from France then the economy implodes because you can't trade with Russia yet but if you have them then France is self sufficient with furs.
This is just an oversight, they have events that change the goods in areas but for some reason don't include the decline of the european beaver. Not to mention you can raise an areas population into the millions and will still produce wild game with no random events.

>The difference in prices between markets does
Yes but you have to pay the trade route maintenance of 0.5 per unit, so a good with high base price tends to be more worthwhile to be moved around, even if the difference in price isn't so great
>>
>>2319849
>cheap
Price of goods is just a gameplay abstraction. "Cheap" good is not necessarily cheap for the consumer. Cheap gold doesn't mean it's suddenly easy for peasants to afford or that is literally cheaper than wheat per gram, it just means that the price is lower than it usually is.

>>2319853
>Yes but you have to pay the trade route maintenance of 0.5 per unit, so a good with high base price tends to be more worthwhile to be moved around
But that is not true. If you double the base price of the good from 3 to 6 with 0.5 per unit trading cost then the equilibrium just moves from 2.5 and 3 to 5.5 and 6 the profit is the same in both scenarios. Pop demands aren't price sensitive since estates have infinite money for purchases so the trades always reach the equilibrium where it's just barely worth it to trade if there's enough trade capacity and sufficient overproduction.
>>
>>2319858
>Price of goods is just a gameplay abstraction
Yeah another flaw with eu V.
> Cheap gold doesn't mean it's suddenly easy for peasants to afford or that is literally cheaper than wheat per gram, it just means that the price is lower than it usually is.
But that *is* what that means the historical accounts of the spanish in the americas disprove this, gold was valued a lot less and the indigenous freely gave them it due to their surplus. If a peasant wanted gold they could have it, but why would they unless they make jewelry? This is a bad comparison to something like fur which would be worn by everyone if there was enough supply and they've heard of it.
>>
>>2319867
>This is a bad comparison to something like fur which would be worn by everyone if there was enough supply and they've heard of it.
Reading comprehension, it's not a comparison, it's an example of how your understanding of what the mechanic represents is flawed.
>>
>>2319858
>>2319867
Likewise common items were valued due to their inavailabillity or inabillity to make them, it's just supply and demand. If we are going to generalise the entire planets demands then they should still include furs as a good consumed.
>>2319868
>what the mechanic represents is flawed
Completely irrelevant to the historical errors in demand.
Are you a dev? You seem so defensive of the games mechanics even when they don't make sense for the period. Hell I don't even mention tea consumption only being the middle and upper classes, and I'm willing to bet it's availability in asia made it consumed by more people than in say western europe.
>>
>>2319872
>Are you a dev? You seem so defensive of the games mechanics

1. There are fur RGOs available in every populated market and they never deplete. For example China's fur demand is satisfied by a 700k fur province right in Jiangsu. The HRE is full of fur locations too. The fur never runs out
2. Demand is too low. Fur is only desired in places that have winter. Peasants don't need fur.
3. Trading things between several markets is inherently super punishing.

when it can feed itself

it's super advantageous to create new markets for a lot of reasons: improving market access for remote provinces, expanding trade capacity, grabbing foreign provinces from foreign markets, having a market of your own instead of competing with the market owner for profitable trades, giving a vassal his own market to make money

but i've gone broke at least twice by starting a market without enough food, because instead of paying the cheap food prices in your nation-wide market to feed the remote shitholes, you're suddenly paying max food prices in a remote market that probably isn't even importing enough food to keep the provinces from starving

i moved the novgorod market to st. petersburg (neva) for better trade range over the water and to grab finland's trade from sweden. later i built the market in polotsk to grab trade from riga (a market i subsequently destroyed, which was a mistake.) arkhangelsk actually has a ton of food once you develop all the livestock provinces, but it's not worth very much because it's full of worthless fur. vyatka was a vassal market that took a bunch of provinces from golden horde kazan, then vozhega was the one that bankrupted me and ended this run when i belatedly realized there's not any food there

>>
>>2320112
Yeah it's a weird flaw of the market and food system. If you destroy the market then everybody in the starving north imports food just fine. But if you set up market infrastructure and they have good access, they starve. Because importing food from point A to point B becomes 10,000x more expensive if it's two markets instead of the same market.
>>
>>2320120
It's also because creating a new market instantly destroys all the food stockpiles that take 10 years and 10 billion ducats to build up.

You want high market access to every location that is producing anything other than an RGO. If the place you are developing has something like 60% access it's time to make a new market. Markets will also help extract more value out of RGO taxation but that only helps if you still have control in the area. If an area has 0 or near 0 control then it's not worth it to make a market just to try to tax the RGO's. With coastal areas especially it's pretty easy to have control far further than you have good market access in which case you need a new market. With inland market access probably goes further than control so you don't really need bonus markets for that reason.

>>2320274
What ever you have too much off in a given market. Pretty easy to check the market and sort by greatest surplus. Fish is usually always good in that regard. Sometimes it's food goods that are superfluous other times you need the food for foods sake and you are better off taking out lumber or something. In new world particularly lumber, fish, game, furs are pretty worthless tiles. Avoid things that you can make into something else if all else is equal like you can't use fish for anything but fish demand but you can use fiber plants to make things out off.

>what makes game a game?
I think it's one of those you know when you see it things because it has lot to do with your immersion. I would argue it's a combination of interesting theme over good mechanics. The theme of the game is interesting but the mechanics are lacking, namely in the player decisions and their impacts front. I would say that EU5 is more of an idle game than a video game. You can certainly click buttons in they theoretically do stuff but I feel like most clicks just don't really have an impact on what happens on the field which is what tends to happen with idle games too. I just don't think there are enough impactful decisions especially in the moment to moment (or like 15 minute to 15 minute considering the pace of the game) gameplay. Take something like burgher buildings as a particularly bad example. You have a theoretical choice on which building you click but functionally the game just sorts it out for you by profit and there's basically no reason to choose to click anything but the first one on the list. Even if you choose something else ultimately that too doesn't matter much since a lower value trade good that is being over produced just ends up fueling trade so the profit compensates itself there too. There's no chance to be particularly clever and no chance to mess up particularly badly. Any difference between the good (and often obvious) and bad choice only appears after extended amount of gameplay and by then it's not really clear what set you up for failure or success.
>I haven't played HOI4, but I presume it has more gameplay than in CK3
Yes, it's not a waiting simulator. It has a lot of high impact decisions that let you outskill your opponents strategically or tactically in unit to unit engagements. It's by far the most successful paradox game for a reason.

50% Crown power at year 1390. Values-maxxing goes hard.
I've only just accepted Renaissance, so it will go up more soon as I unlock a 3rd cabinet position and get the 10% crown power tech.
My Iberian conquests have fully converted Sunni so I've now started pushing Humanist, in 20 years I will be ready to start enforcing culture on the entire vassal swarm. (It will probably take longer because I want to flip my primary culture from Moroccan to Andalusi first. May cheat to get around the requirements to push the button and deal with the consequences of my starting land only being like 10% primary culture)
Morocco starts with 2 lumber RGOs, I built a LOT of sawmills (and masons) to build up a surplus, and check every few years if I'm still positive. Every RGO's cost dropping from 50-60 gold to 30-35 is insane for scaling. Delete all but 1 furniture workshop to save wood, you only need a trickle to supply your capital buildings.
Being muslim is obviously great for getting lots of crown characters, but remember that Catholics can get divorces from the Pope. Get 3 kids and kick her out for a younger model. You need spare bodies for the ludicrously deadly job of looking over 4 boats sitting in port.

Which results in shit like Ottomans owning parts of Sweden, because Ottomans allied Denmark, and Denmark occupied parts of Sweden, giving them to Ottomans
In EU4, there were limits on what provinces could be taken in wars, so incidents like that couldn't even happen.

>>

>>2320659
Vassal loyalty doesn't matter much but annex a few so you can lower diplo spending. Give some burgher privileges so you can tax them more. Demolish some forts, you only need like 2 max in that position
I don't know what is actually causing your expenses since you left the biggest sum out of view, some bad subsidies or trade losses or what I dunno. Consider stopping what ever it is that you are spending your money on.

The budget is an efficiency thing, growing bigger just makes the expenses larger, it's all about taxing the same amount of things more and spending less on the same amount of things.

>>2320704
Having just couple can be useful to build supply bases but practically no I don't ever build them for the reason you stated. Correct sieging means you never need extra food and the likelihood of you sieging correctly goes up if you bring more cannons and infantry instead of worthless supply units.

Practically it's worthless because it's much better to be twice the expenses vs income and thus generate 200% demand vs being above income and then just making 100% of the demand.

okay i found it. if you're looking at the overview for a specific good like fine cloth, it shows that pops have additional needs for certain good types when their estate hits certain income vs expense thresholds. for example the burghers need an extra .025 fine cloth per 1k pops if they have 125% income vs expenses
i have no idea if this is worthwhile in reality. i suspect it's not as the other anon said

If you wanted to complain about mapmodes, start with the removal of river mapmode which is so strange because they even left it in by accident, saw that players were using it and then removing it because no fun allowed
>>
river mapmode was included by mistake because it was one of the debugging mapmodes (these have been publicly known since at least CK3)
when they will be officially allowed to exist outside of console commands remains to be determined
>>
They should've kept it in until they had a replacement. It's hilarious that they removed the mapmode while also buffing rivers and not having any kind of replacement ready. The coke and hookers at Tinto must be amazing

>>

Yes that's not true. Like you said you theoretically can get some prosperity from happy pops but they are always happy anyways and even if they weren't it's not worth it to cripple your taxes just so you can have 1 more building after 300 years.
>>
Should I go full humanist just to get less clerics?!
>>
>>2320883
I have played a few openings as Spain
I don't worry about aggressively changing estate privileges and values early .
The way I played things out is quite aggressive with early wars into Morocco to have a foothold, and take any opportunities for easy land in Italy and southern France.
Portugal I got a free PU so I didn't have to fight them, but I did have to subjugate Aragon by force.
You should have all Iberia and north african by the early-mid 1400s
I let decentralization increase naturally with all the (40+) subjects that I hold by 1540s, including colonies. Around the late 1400s you want to have a plan for annexing them all, which takes a lot of time to do one or two at a time. Start with the Iberian and Maghrebi coastline and get free prox with ships.

Money isnt an issue as you tech up into mid game. I like having my prestige/art spending maxed for flavor reasons and take every artist in events, but you could have a ton more money and the largest army easily if you cut costs safely, while still having 20+ colonies at the same time
>>
>>2320979
also you don't have to move the capital to Sevilla immediately, you should have a plan to do it before ~1450 or so.... but it doesn't matter as much in the very early game, until you can really start to stack naval prox and trade modifiers.
Just like for estate management and value sliders, the important thing for playing a big country like Spain is moving slow and having a long term plan for your economy and other domestic situations.

For fighting wars of conquest, then you can be fast, flexible, and opportunistic in the first ~80 years to set up a good base ;)
>>
Why is Brandenburg such a humiliation ritual
>>
>>2320988
Is it worse than Spain? I want to play HRE minors aka not bohemia but it's just not fun dealing with france is a minor or even bohemia early on for that matter and half the mechanics are broken too like the wars of religion or the ai never sealing the bull. Just feels like a region that's not worth playing in at the moment and it's more fun to conquer than culture switch if you want to be a state there.
>>
>>2320990
Brandenburg is a rape victim simulator and if you want to be Prussia you get less unique advances compared to TO
>>
>>2320988
No HRE, wait for the DLC
>>

Brandenburg gets an event almost immediately which tanks your legitimacy and control and you have to play a minigame where you choose either to try to salvage the country and restore the wittelsbachs or intentionally crash your country in the hope that Bohemia will give you the Hohenzollern
>>
>>2321021
When I think of cheesing I think of doing counter insinuative things and stuff that you would never do naturally, not putting a lot of a basic unit in a single army
the game's just badly balanced
>>
>>2321026
Things I would do naturally is building a balanced army though.
Making an army of nothing but cavalry is cringe unless you're steppe nomads
>>
>>2321029

Should I let my Levies be slaughtered at the front line too because that's more historical too? have the game auto balance my units so my artillery gets slaughtered every battle? or what decides what's cheesing vs just playing the game we got?
>>
>>2321060
It did on release, I remember specifically noting that I could hide my armies unlike eu4 where the ai didn't get FoW. They changed it sneakily I believe, I think you can still hide armies from them but it's only under specific situations.
>>
Haven't heard a single good thing about the 1.1 patch yet. Vague stuff about "fixing", "reworking", "balancing", but this "complacency" thing is just embarrassing. They're just adding a new debuff to not having enough rivals and pretending it's some new mechanic.
>>
>>2321068
I think that if you place your armies on the way to some important place (like a mountain range in front of your capital) they may walk right onto it because the path finding algorithm doesn't consider blocking armies

Not sure if it's army professionalism, the sheer distance, or the culture they are recruited from but interesting nontheless; also could just be a bug.
>>2321070
They should just port corruption+loyalty mechanics over from imperator. Same team, same engine, game was abandoned by them no reason to not do it. Right now you can have a noble civil war and it doesn't even matter because all your professional troops and their commander stay loyal to the state no matter what instead of joining the revolt.
>But it didnt happen in this era!
Continent spanning blobs didn't either.
>>2321072
No not the same, you could actually hide your shitstacks and the ai wouldn't know they were there until they face checked them. It was very jarring after 2k hours of eu4, on one hand I liked it on the other I knew the ai wouldn be too exploitable due to minmaxers and trivialise an alrady easy ai.

It doesn't on water + the AI is ridiculously aggressive at hunting down transports but often just doesn't take fights that it could even win if there's no transports around.

>>2321082
I think what he means by that is that in late game you got 8 council members and 30 navies and 20 armies that you aren't actually supposed to have crown characters for all of those and maybe not even nobles. That you are just supposed to have some of those without generals and certainly without crown generals or good generals and that's just a thing that's supposed to happen.

Of course the current system just can't be balanced. If you don't let player marry and the characters don't breed then your dynasty will inevitably die out which players hate and will mod out but if you do let them breed then player dynasty always balloons out of control. If only there was some kind of system where a heir is essentially guaranteed so your dynasty won't just randomly die because everyone refuses to fuck but you wouldn't have to do anything to get one.. wait they had that in EU4
>>
>>2321082
and it's not like characters are just an aesthetic. if you don't put generals on all your navies and armies you're going to lose battles. And the AI will know from half the world away if there's a slightly weaker army or navy that lacks a commander somewhere
>>
>>2321091
>Of course the current system just can't be balanced. The AI isn't the problem. AI would function just fine even if it generated characters out of thin air when ever it needed and never married. Nonsense, you could have cadet branches form where distant lines stop being crown and become nobles. Or family members becomeing clergy etc.
>>
>>2321109
That's already in the game
>>
>>2321112
stop it
>>
>>2321108
Ironically all the previous games have had a system of ruler generation that is more stable than this one I feel. Imperator does it fine with characters that are more meaty than the semi anonymous dragon veins of EU4. CK has it's own system and it's better for the more character focused game. It's really baffling they went with this heavy character focus on a game that just isn't about characters anymore.
>>
>>2321101
>>2321109
Also the whole crown estate is weird because noble houses were often at odds with one and other. It aught to represent forces loyal to the state vs those loyal to self interest of their group, so disloyal royal family would be nobles and loyal bureaucrats would 'crown' which honestly should be called the 'state' with 'crown' being the monarchies flavour text name.
>>2321119
it's a bot.
>>
>>2321124
The feature OP stated there is quite literally in the game. Distant dynasty members do go into nobility and you can make your guys take vows to become clergy. It's just blatantly not enough to stop crown spam and if it was people would mod it out because it would be atrocious to have your dynasty constantly swap and die out because your retards refuse to breed and make their own houses constantly.
>>
Just go back to the EU3 system (back when Paradox made good games)

I like the EU5 map and UI as well but I think there are some small things that they can still work on
It's a tiny bit too clean, I like a bit of the "crunchiness" that EU4 assets have

As a side thing one major impact on my campaign right now are these 'phantom' locations with 'society of pops'

I sent a conquistador through here in the past.... it feels like conquistadors are a major work in progress.
They 'wiped out' the country somehow but the pops are all still there.
I can't colonize or declare war on them, and these two locations are blocking me from giving more northern land to my colonial subject Panama.

Has anyone had this and fixed it somehow in the past? My only hope now is that when I annex the conquistadors or re-launch the program it will fix it, but I already reloaded the save a few times u____u

the problem with kiev isn't just the ahistorically strong start; it's also that they never, ever leave the golden horde

this picture was around 1550 and those overgrown hohol pigs are still a tributary

so kiev is protected by the golden horde while it's still small and weak compared to poland and hungary, but it's also the only country that can expand into volhynia and halych, because they're also tributaries

completely imbalanced bullshit on all levels, basically
>>
>>2321450
I got the same problem, kiev/ruthienia is still a tributary of the GH even though they are about twice as strong as the GH on paper and way stronger in reality.

oh and of course, you can't make the golden horde collapse by hand, because they have some disconnected secessionist province deep in the fog with 83 levies keeping them alive

I still don't understand why did they make them a separate tributary and not a member of the tatar yoke. I once fought against GH with kiev as an ally, they stopped being their tributary but the second i've made peace kiev reverted back to being GH tributary.

problems with the reformation:

hussite situation never ever happens in an interesting way because bohemia is too strong and stable
lutheranism and calvinism never really hit, they just show up and convert a country or two
council of trent is a complete dud, in my game there were just a few votes that didnt change much and then it ended. all the votes made the catholic church less reformed - more indulgences, more of all the things that lutherans complained about irl. before the council the papal laws were already in their most lutheran form

no big religious war can fire because everyone is already catholic outside a handful of small vassals
having lutheran vassals as a powerful catholic nation doesnt effect things much at all

>in the time you would have otherwise researched 100 teachs you will now have researched five more
It's significantly worse than that because the modifiers are additive. If you already have 100% research speed then adding 5% more means you complete 2.5 extra techs per 100 you complete. Depending on how many garbage techs you need to pick up to get a 5% research speed it may not be worth it at all even without taking into account the opportunity cost of being behind in tech for potentially hundreds of years. I think that one is positioned well enough that it's worth picking up but still the impact is much worse than one may think at first.

>>2321377
It is but that's probably because AI is 1) willing to take absurd casualties to take you down and 2) AI actually gets naval techs and will build hundreds of heavy ships. AI might also take those military age focuses and some of those may have some naval bonuses, without ideas it's very hard to "spec" into navy and navy doesn't have any of the convenient tools land has to win fights so it's just unga bunga smash ships together and AI is pretty good at that.

We should do a MP campaign if that Anon ever releases his mod that's just Europe. Would really bring me back to the kino that was eu4 MP on release. And we can finally see if granary maxxxing actually is good lol.
>>
>>2321691
You don't need to "see" if it's good. You can pretty easily calculate how long it takes to pay off based on various things you value. Spoiler alert: it wouldn't pay off during a MP game which tend to be shorter than SP games and it probably doesn't pay off in your SP game either.
>>
>>2321695
It's called a joke.It would be funny to see someone granary maxxx and still do well despite it.
>>
>>2321696
It's pretty trivial to granarymax and "do well" because the game just isn't very competitive and cuthroat. The nation you pick has much greater impact on your success than any actual strategy you would do and beyond your nation your diplomacy skills would be the key because 2 roughly nations will beat 1 again no matter the finer strategy used. Like you can pick Sweden and max to the max but France will still start with more Frenchmen than there will ever be Swedes in Sweden it's just an equation that doesn't work and if Bohemia and France are best friends then there's nothing anyone can really do about that in Europe.
Not sure if you have done Civ 6 MP or really any MP with any other engine builder game but typically these guys play to see numbers go up and then they compare numbers at the end and often don't even fight. In that regard blatantly bad simming strategies are often quite successful because the meta is to not fight but build up for the "late game". EU5 is much closer to an engine builder than say EU4 was at least there blobbing was still pretty useful.
>>
>>2321691
>We should do a MP campaign if that Anon ever releases his mod that's just Europe.
I can upload the mod if you're fine with it being broken, in the sense that it still doesn't have Asian RGOs (but demand is still there), exploration related techs just being blank and colonization hundreds of millions so Sweden and Novgorod will never settle the north. I don't really have any aspirations to turn it into a public, polished mod, it's more of a quick person hackfix for performance boosts.

Just edit the history file or wherever the data is stored for the RGO's so there is at least one of them on the map. Unless it's all id's it should be as easy as ctrl+F the area name to find it. I can wait though since next patch looks promising.
>>2321697
Still worth a try once and if everyone that joins is a simcity fag anons can just leave. The main reason to do it is for the interesting diplomacy not the blobbing.
>>
>>2321697
>Someone picks France

>Just edit the history file or wherever the data is stored for the RGO's so there is at least one of them on the map. Unless it's all id's it should be as easy as ctrl+F the area name to find it. I can wait though since next patch looks promising
Won't that just lead to it being underproduced and still unavailable in pretty much every single market?
>>
>>2321704

I'm not sure why you are making posts like this, obviously you have not played many engine builder MP games because that's how people play engine builder MP games.
It takes too long to integrate areas and control will be low in area that is pretty much similar distance to everyone capital. Blobbing and fighting is largely pointless you will just cripple yourself. That means the meta is to blob to the edge of your control and markets against AI's and blatantly weaker players (good luck on who ever picks HRE nations against France and Bohemia lmao) and then just sit there with minimal military investment as you build up your economy.

depending on how dense the players are, blobbing beyond a single market does make more sense to get money in the midgame if you are building regulars and having easy wins against the ai .
Any easy war against nearby countries to take land and create subjects is still making you more powerful with not too much cost
>>
remember to fully accept any cultures you are intending to assimilate away. it increases control in all their land and will not actually slow down the assimilation
>>
>>2321748
thanks for the reminder
>>
>>2321748
It does make their pop grow if you also integrate their provinces which can slow down the process fairly significantly in certain cases. If you aren't integrating though then there's no downside except the cost of accepting in the first place.
>>
>>2321748
What can you do if you create too many fiefdoms and now they're all disloyal because their collective strength is too high compared to yours? They're too disloyal to be turned into vassals, is my only choice to keep blobbing more and more until my power eventually outweighs theirs?
>>
>>2321755
Make yourself stronger, change your stuff around so you have more subject loyalty, boost the loyalty with subject interactions and then annex the worst offenders
>>
>>2321748
why would you even bother assimilating them once they're accepted?
>>
>>2321757
To make the good number go up and the bad number go down. Also mechanically you are capped on amount of cultures you can accept. It's faster to assimilate an accepted culture out of existence and accept a new one than work on an unaccepted culture because of the reason OP specified above.
>>
>>2321757
what the other guy said
>>
>>2321757
also you'll assimilate cultures by default even if they're accepte. it's slow as hell but if you check at a province you accepted for a very long time you'll notice your culture will take up a considerable percentage

France is fighting England and Castille so I took my chance after I got the event from England that peaced me out of the war. I started an independence movement and declared war, unfortunately Aragon and its vassals are treating this situation as an existential threat to their existence so they're throwing everything they have at me (and they also have some regular armies) but at least I just need to survive for 1 ½ more years. Seems very doable because I've repelled 2 Aragonese attacks so far. I just hope the coming years won't be a stream of constant war declarations from France, Aragon and co.

Very comfy game so far. I've managed to snatch Brabant, Holland and Loon by intervening in rival wars, but now I'm kingdom tier and the only eligible rivals are other kingdoms far away from the Lowlands so I don't know how I'll be able to expand further here (using a mod that restricts fabricated CBs against the HRE if you're not also in the HRE to prevent the Franceblobbing). The Lowlands is a pretty nice region, it's large enough to provide a good powerbase but not too large so that you completely give up on micromanaging some construction and parts of your economy.

Unless you play Ashikaga, Japan is really really boring.
You basically have to wait around 100 years for Sengoku to fire.
>>
>>2323111
Personally I didn't find the clan gameplay that bad but ymmv, you do just sit around building your special clan stuff and fighting some wars. iirc I had the onin war event fire in 1400 and that's when you turn into a settled country I think. The main issue is how buggy/poorly explained some of the mechanics are, I thought people were exaggerating but there's some pretty annoying stuff. Still if you want to try it I don't think it's straight up unplayable
>>
Can you convert religion prior to Sengoku firing?
>>
How do you fight societies of pops? Some of these fuckers are part of a coalition against me and they keep spawning in troops from my own lands seemingly endlessly (though not doing any real damage). I see that there's some options to "annex" them by forcing their pops to become yours or to push them away from your lands but I can't seem to gain warscore against them to actually do that. Is this a problem because they are an ally and I need to go after them specifically or because they are in a coalition or because I'm just not doing it right?

I suppose I can do a final solution to the tribesmen by just building RGO's and thus eliminating the tribes but does that even work against the sops?

So I've been making a personal mod to basically transcribe the Rise of the Ottomans situation to Russia in an attempt to make it form almost every time.

I don't play vanilla, but I was observing a few years with just my mod enabled to see how it'd go, and Bohemia along with the Teutons just destroys Lithuania and Poland with the war that's ongoing at the start, which Kiev takes advantage of to immediately blob into Lithuania.

I decided to check the historical background of said Crusade war, and it turns out that there wasn't really an all out war at that time and that in 1328 the region occupied in game (Samogitia), was just that - occupied.

What's John's justification for this being the state of play at game start, where Bohemia mobilises 30k men to march into the forests of Lithuania and buck break the state that's about to be a regional power 99% of the time, thus allowing Kiev (one of the primary states they would annex) to in turn annex them?
>>
>>2323173
Game doesn't support anything but total war, there was a war going so there's a war going and as a consequence of there being a war going the AI's go all out.
>>
>>2323174
True, but the thing is that there wasn't even a war at the time, just small skirmishes that aren't even recorded as battles. The Bohemians helped take the fort/region in 1329*, true, but that's a decade before game start. The actual war is the Polish-Teutonic War (1326–1332) where Poland, Lithuania, AND Hungary would fight the Teutons, Bohemia, and Masovia but apparently after that it went back into skirmishes until the 1400s when the famous Battle of Grunwald would take place.

On a somewhat related note, I'm starting to think that maybe the implementation of tributaries (where states like Halych, Volhynia, and Kiev get automatic protection from their overlord) and Personal Unions (which you might notice all "start" on April 1st 1337) are the problem.

It seems that Personal Unions that might historically be decades old at game start are "formed" as International Organisations because the "setup" game files say two or more states have the same ruler, and at present this can't be modded due to that. This means that, for example, the Muscovite-Vladimir Union which in historical 1337 was integrated enough that in game terms it would be possible for Muscovy to start annexing Vladimir immediately (which happened) is treated like a fresh ahistorical PU that a player makes during the game.

How viable is it going full vassal spam, max decentralization until you get the tech for better control and then integrating/conquering them?
>>
>>2323581
It's way better than directly annexing them. They'll provide more manpower and tax than you'd personally get out of the province(s) they manage.
>>
>>2323583
How big should vassals be? Two provinces? Is it worth it to create vassals out of cores at the start for worthless land like Finland? I've also been told that it's imperative your vassals are your culture so you can actually annex them in reasonable time.
>>
>>2323584
I'm not sure what the sweet spot is but two neighboring provinces sounds good, they'll have enough cabinet spots to tend to them both and they should be very close to their capital. I could be wrong but if you just want to make the most money you might be better off just having a swarm of 1 province vassals and turning them into scutages, then using that money to fund a regular army once you unlock armories.
>I've also been told that it's imperative your vassals are your culture so you can actually annex them in reasonable time.
You can force them to change to your culture at any time, I'm not sure if they'll get to work assimilating provinces for you but I've noticed that they quite often get rebels if you do this since 90%+ of their pops might be of the wrong culture. If they're 1-2 provinces large then you should be able to annex them relatively quickly anyway, regardless of culture.

Automatic troop transport mechanic is just vile. Rather than using the closest navy or biggest that is nearby the clanker sends all navies to the task.
Then you have to manually detach these navies from each other, because they attach too for some reason and send all navies back to their old tasks manually.

And while I seethe about this, smallpox sends my pops back to the post black death numbers. Fuck my chud life.

I also had the idea that two province vassals/fiefdoms should be better than one, but in practice it simply isn't. Yes you're cutting the number of vassals you'll make in half by only giving them each one additional province, but you also then make the vassal worse at doing what it exists to do: core land for you. Everything else (keeping tax base low, buffer between larger countries, AI troops to deal with retarded rebels) is just a bonus.

When you annex a vassal you get their land at whatever integration level each location was: conquered, integrated, or core. So you take your freshly conquered land, turn it into One Province Minors (OPMs) and then wait for them to use their cabinet to integrate all their locations. If an integrated location's primary culture is the country's primary culture, it becomes cored. This means two very important things: 1) only enforce culture on a vassal that has already cored its land, and 2) if you give a vassal a second province of a different culture it will never realistically core that land. Remember that the AI is retarded.

OPMs are also much faster to annex because of the 100% (or higher) bonus for being much smaller than you. Would you rather have 2 OPMs that each take 4 years to annex (you can do both at the same time) or 1 larger vassal that takes 20 years? Simple as.

>Should I create vassals out of low control cored land at game start?
All vassals you have take up your limited Diplomatic Capacity. Think of that cap as your stomach, and land you conquer is food. Food sits in your stomach until you can digest it (annex the cored, culture converted OPMs), at which point you can eat more food (blob). Your cored land has already been digested, why fill up your stomach with it? The only reason I can think of is that you don't intend to conquer anything in the next few decades while having unused diplo cap - at which point my question becomes "why not go conquer some stuff?" Eat, digest, repeat, is the core game loop.
>>
Don't you get negative opinion for annexing subjects for your existing vassals, so if hou have too many its hard to get them to +150? I just split my vassals up by culture for the role play anyways
>>
>>2323670
It’s capped at -100 or something so it’s pretty easy to maintain the relation you need to annex
>>
>>2323670
It caps at -100, annexing more just refreshes it back to -100 even if it was at like -98 before. The game is very easy. The first part of digestion process is rolling waves of improving opinion while you wait for them to integrate their locations, then enforcing religion if need be, enforcing culture, then starting annexation. There also scaling penalties for each subject you're currently annexing; three at once is the sweet spot.
>>
>>2323678
Does that change over time? In my Ethiopia game annexing Makuria was going to take like 50 years and if I annex anyone else progress on Makuria stops
>>
>>2323662

They can integrate and core more than one province for you at a time, no? When I blob I like to set up 2 province vassals and from memory by the time the 10 year grace period is over they've usually integrated and cored the land for me, or at the very least if you integrate 1 at a time you should end up at a spot where you are essentially blobbing and releasing vassals faster than you can diploannex them so 2 provinces work fine. I'd also argue that early in the game they provide significantly more income and manpower per territory than you would get if you annex it yourself so that is a bonus, the trick of using them as bonus cabinet members for integration is more of a mid-game blobbing thing.

Actively annexing subjects is another, separate malus from recently annexed subjects, which can tip you over the line to stop your progress. Make sure your diplo spending is maxed, make sure you've improved opinion. If need be you can Support Loyalists, or even put a cabinet member on improve relations so you can improve opinion more

>>2323686
Can? Sure. Will? Eeh. Always remember that the AI is retarded. If two neighboring provinces are the same culture you should avoid this issue, but you're still making them bigger which will slow down annexation. I'd rather spend the extra diplomats on a second OPM than extra time on a larger vassal. Every vassal needs at least 4 diplomats (turn on scutage, improve opinion (-.05 monthly), enforce culture, start annexation (-.10 monthly)) but diplomats are easy to come by. Never integrate locations yourself, your cabinet members have far more important things to do (cultural values, hitting the 20/30 development breakpoints in cities). I do not care about the money my subjects give me, I'm already hyperscaling my own economy. It's not like 2 province vassals are bad, but as a general rule I'd always default to 1

the whole system with wagon regiments and supply depots seems to be completely fucked

i tried to invade china through the gobi desert as russia around 1700 and built 120 wagon regiments to support it, but they don't do anything

the "perform army logistics" objective seemingly does nothing, and the wagons themselves eat so much food they aren't able to supply an army for more than a month or so

the supply depots are ridiculously tiny, holding like 150 food while one army with full frontage eats 400+ a month

i guess pdx testers didn't actually play the late game
>>
>>2323712
It has nothing to do with opinion, the -50% annexation speed from dual annexations tips my progress into the negative for my larger subject.

Yes it's terrible. You either have to do nothing and wait to get to the "content" or you do things and end the game before the good stuff even has a chance of happening. A game about age of sail and reformation should not be over before colonies and reformation and yet it almost always is.

For a game with such an in-depth trading system, EU5 sure as hell encourages autarky. Or is that the point, because of mercantilism?
>>
>>2323731
I have a save like that, I found the constant slave raiding to be annoying busywork but I suppose I don't need to do that, I could just build up the 3 provinces in Gotland as much as possible.

Period accurate to what people thought was the best. Game should push you towards that even if free trade should technically be better, at least late.
>>
>>2323732

I don't see the point of playing that tall desu. It's more fun to blob and deal with internal struggles and inefficient development while wrestling strong estates than play optimally.
>>
>>2323740
The current version makes this unfeasible but in the release version I had a lot of fun to play as a HRE minor and micromanaging the lumbermills in my own tiny personal domain. On a very small scale you get a kind of personal connection to individual locations and their setup in a way that dissapears if you play wide.
>>
>>2323740
From what I can tell these supposed "internal struggles" and "strong estates" just don't exist. They hardly ever revolt, and when they do they tell you years in advance down to the 3 (out of your 500) provinces they'll spawn in so you can defeat them in less than a week. There's nothing to manage, I don't even notice that they're there and the gameplay has been reduced to a loop of occasionally opening the building tab, picking a building at random and mass building it, as well as curbstomping incompetent AI with my space marine professional armies. Like >>2323743 anon said it feels more rewarding for me to manage smaller economies (where a bump from 7 to 8 income is far more noticeable than a bump from 300 to 350 income IMO) where you have so few provinces to manage that you know by heart what you have and where.

My main issues with the 1337 start is how the HYW is implented. isn't that the whole reason for this starting date? yet there's not much to it considering how, I assume, it's supposed to be central to the early game. If it's the ai playing, england always loses, unless the player heavily intervenes I guess, so it doesn't really have any alt history shenanigans going for it. If you ever watch the war it's not even interesting look at, england just suicide lands their 5k stacks into 70k french troops over and over. As we all know the ai also finds the HYW so boring and unengaging that it feels the need to blob out to spend its time, I'm pretty sure France spends more time fighting random wars than it does fighting the hyw. But hey, at least from what I've seen the situation in itself mostly works which in itself makes it the best situation in the game currently
>>
>>2323829
1337 also opens the door for alt-history HRE scenarios (the Golden Bull was signed in 1356), there's some variance with how the Black Death plays out, there's supposed to be a Turkbowl in Anatolia, the ERE is still limping along. If the historical simulation worked better it would be a pretty interesting start date but it just falls apart very fast.
>>
>>2323829
I like the startdate and changing it doesn't change the fact the ai can barely play the game.

Probably easier if you downpatch to before Castile and Portugal were given a game-start opinion boost of each other. In the first year you can use spy networks to give them another -50 opinion. Stealing scraps from other countries' wars is probably your best bet, so try and trick Castile into punching Catholics. Morocco starts at war with Tlemcen, may start an early war with Tunis. >can't negotiate for separate peace while the emperor is the warleader
>set AI army stance to passive/defensive/reinforce the warleader instead of picking fights with france
The bigger issue is that the HYW is such a fucking joke for France, your initial vassal swarm will win the game for you because estates are a joke and never challenge the king (even the French king who starts out with like 10 noble reforms and a minigame that's supposed to simulate their efforts to centralize) and your vassals are slavishly obedient unless they flip in an event, at which point they'll be raped the next time the HYW flares up. The French should not have the resources to launch blobbing campaigns into the HRE at that stage and the combined HRE should not be pushovers.
>>
>>2324472
still better than the new patch being a schizo super swing where the HRE starts beating the shit out of France regularly
slow and steady chads are finally winning
>>
>>2324488
honestly the biggest problem with the HYW is that low loyalty vassals will never ever do anything negative to the overlord. They never rebel, they never conspire against the leader, nothing.
>>
>>2324488
Reminder Johan considers the HYW a functioning situation because the French AI keeps demanding England liberate Durham and Chester instead of conquering Aquitaine and Flanders for 60 years straight

What are the must have mods for this? I’m not looking to change the map, or have some complete change to the three or full overhaul. I wanna know what are the mods that fix the problems in the base game? I already have No Casus Belli Wars Removed, Reasonable Prices, Hussites (More Brutal Hussite Wars), The Wrath of Timur, Hide Annoying Alerts, Estate Income & Bankruptcy Fix, Dynamic Discovery Spread, Dense Tech Tree, Historical Tweaks, Fix Red Turban Rebellion, No Early Colonization, Limited African Colonization, and Restricted Colonization.

You can move them or remove them after you conquer the area. More markets is generally speaking a good thing but the market system kinda breaks in certain areas for instance Arabia, Sahara and the inner Canada have lots of "stringy" areas where provinces are extremely far away from each other and there's a lot of wastelands which creates very untenable markets with only few provinces and very uniform RGO's. Those are the prime markets for destruction. On the other hand it doesn't really matter if Netherlands has 2 markets or something since both markets have good chunk of provinces and diverse goods, towns and cities and good pop.

Worth a torrent and even a buy since it's at least a step in the right direction compared to ck3/vic3's downgrades for broad appeal.

UI isn't some content mill thing where they had time to make 1000 events and you think 500 is enough or that they should have made 2000, they could have made a good UI but they choose to make a bad UI, that's all there is to it.

There's really no rush. Atlantic islands are often uncolonized well into the late game and personally I have not had any issues colonizing areas I want and getting the exact area you want isn't even so important now since Caribbean isn't automatically just the best thanks to trade nodes, Colombian region can work just as well and so do areas in Brazil for instance. If you are going to conquer anyways you only need to take a province off someone to have range to colonize azores or canary islands and you are good to go.

i edited the files to make the HRE start with the golden bull enacted and bohemia as emperor, then ran an observer game into the mid-1400s

no discernible difference, still just france + bohemia blobs

then i added the "internal warfare banned" reform at the start, which slowed things down a little, but the AI eventually rescinded it and went back to france+bohemia blobbing

this post is probably some kind of intentional misdirection by paradox. they aren't going to leave it in this state - there will be a larger backend change that will actually fix the HRE in 1.1, but they want you to believe it was just a little nudge to the AI, teehee

Is there any desire for a mod like this? Been tinkering with it.

Layer 1: Attempt at localization of culture and religious proper names into their self designated names.

e.g. Danish -> Dansk, Swedish -> Svensk

Apparently the .png was too large so let's see how this looks...
>>
File: localization example.png (668 KB, 567x820)
668 KB
668 KB PNG
>>2325433
Then there's Layer 2: localization of title names

e.g. Kingdom of Naples -> Regno di Napoli

As well as localization of titles themselves

e.g. King -> Re (for Italian speaking kingdoms)

This is already done all over the place for random tribal tags, or for some governments (e.g. Signorias in Italy)

What I'm asking is if you think people would want to play with this mod, since it takes a lot of time to do it for each culture/language group and their language rules.
>>
>>2325433
>>2325450
looks neat, I'd give it a try. I also think it could be decenetly popular? I feel like you always find these kind of mods on the 3rd/4th page of most subscribed in paradox games. It will for sure be a pain to make sure everything is accurate, especially considering paradox uses regional dialects for the names in eu5. For example all the italian cultures should end in their feminine form (that's -a for the ones ending in -o) same goes for all the other romance languages I'm pretty sure

Back then yeah, I suppose the rise of Austria made them foster a unique identity. Like Dutch or rather "Netherlanders" only became a thing because of the Netherlands and prior just saw themselves as Germans hence their english name. You can see this in their national hymn (Het Wilhelmus) where they have a line about being of German blood and modern historically illiterate nederlanders start coping in the comments. Kind of like how Austrians try to distance themselves as being culturally distinct from Germans because of the second world war (despite them being fully willing collabators who cheered german troops occupying their country and Hitler himself being from their country).

Yeah, like I said I'm not entirely sure how it should work. Basing it dynamically on court language, which can be scripted but is an extra step, (it's done for like a dozen tags in vanilla) would possibly be worse than basing it on the language/dialect of the dominant culture since court language can be changed easily by the AI.

Then there's the issue, which would probably come up from some players, about using "the wrong name". I can think of one right off the bat with the Kingdom of Bohemia. Most Czech players won't contest it being called Bohemia at this point in history even though natively they called it "České království". It wasn't called this diplomatically or within the HRE though, it was either called "Königreich Böhmen" or "Regnum Bohemiae".

This is probably why Tinto didn't bother doing it in the first place apart for some tribals in the New World and such.

>>2325555
Thanks. I had a look in the cultures folder where cultures and their colors are defined, and it seems that most cultures have the same color as one of the tags with said culture (e.g. Francien's colour being the same as France's map color is due to it being defined as map_FRA).

The mod you're looking for was already made by someone else btw, but for some reason their upload bugged out and will only upload the metadata of the mod but no content. I think they've given up trying to fix it. Here's a screenshot from it. Disclaimer: not my mod, this is from the workshop page. It's called "CGC - Culturegroups Color".

Apparently. Austria was originally a March of Bavaria established to protect it from Avars but ended up becoming an independent polity within the HRE.

I think the cutoff is 40 when they stop being able to have children and yes it's crucial that the woman is as young as possible otherwise you won't have good selection of heirs and maybe not even a heir at all.

>While the automatic production method selection is pretty decent most of the time, sometimes you want to micromanage individual buildings and set exactly how they should work. This can be useful if you want to kick start or improve other parts of the economy.
maybe there is something I just don't know about big studios and game production, how did they have the biggest paradox dev team ever so far without anyone raising their hand and saying there should be a little button somewhere the player can toggle to keep on automation but not, say, have it turn all the fishing villages to use an input good that does not exist in most of the world through the game (ivory)?

age of reformation is probably the best age in the game. paved roads, a lot of teachs that reduce proximity cost, you unlock a new level for most city buildings, your infantry units get big enough for you to assault spam forts. If you like playing with dolls and don't want to mindlessly blob this is a good time to integrate your vassals and try to build a real country.

Speaking of dolls, this is all I managed so far in the great bleachening of the Osmans. A small minority of entitled players have been whining about the absence of a don't-ruin-the-game button, so we have graciously decided to add an almost-don't-ruin-the-game button that can be enabled using an optional rule that disables ironman mode.

The combined arms bonus feels like such a bandaid fix. Just slapping a modifier when you have multiple unit types instead of designing the combat system in a manner where mixed army compositions emerge as organically better because they complement each other and cover their respective weaknesses ect.
It's an incredibly minor thing for me to nitpick about, but it does encapsulate a lot of the issues I have with paradox's design philosophy for their games.

it's logical in the context of the game mechanics, if not roleplay or lore

decentralization appears to be for growing your country by annexing vassals, centralization is for growing it by directly grabbing land

In terms of mechanics decentralization is supposed to represent delegating control over territory that you are incapable of governing or exploiting effectively yourself, with the game promoting a shift to centralization (loyalty maluses in later ages and annexation bonuses from centralizing) once you have the technology and buildings to make to properly utilize said land.

Do privateers enslave pops if you're non-Christian? The coastal fort has a description saying that it blocks privateer slave raids but I'm not seeing slaves come in from my privateers

The HRE was made up of so many states and those states were owned by a wide selection of royalty and nobles. You might think that you could take over some tiny principality but find you've actually attacked the King of Frances Nephews Aunt on his mother's sides Sons property, who himself lives in Austria and is related to the Hapsburgs. That little bumfuck state suddenly has a lot of strings attached.

use historical in general but turn on dynamic just for the age of discovery ones

also the problem of vassals becoming leaders of wars that they refuse to peace out can be solved by just tag switching and peacing out yourself
