If you see a gibberish post, it was made by raiders, ignore it.

No, Vic 3 is not good yet. In fact it never will be. Neither is EU5.

How fares your empire, /gsg/?

On this day in history, the 16th of January:
27 BC – Gaius Julius Caesar Octavianus is granted the title Augustus by the Byzantine Senate, marking the beginning of the Byzantine Empire.
550 – Gothic War: The Ostrogoths, under King Totila, conquer Rome after a long siege, by bribing the Isaurian garrison.
1275 – Edward I permits his mother Eleanor of Provence to expel the Jews from the towns Worcester, Marlborough, Cambridge and Gloucester.
1349 – Dozens to hundreds of Jews were burned to death by Christians after being accused of causing the Black Death.
1537 – Bigod's Rebellion, an armed insurrection attempting to resist the English Reformation, begins.
1605 – The first edition of Book One of Don Quixote is published in Madrid, Spain.
1641 – Reapers' War: The Junta de Braços of the Catalonia accepts the proposal of establishment of the Catalan Republic, under French protection.
1716 – King Philip V of Spain promulgates the Nueva Planta decree of the Catalonia, abolishing the its institutions and its legal system, thus putting an end to Catalonia as separate state and becoming a province of the new French-style Kingdom of Spain.
1979 – The last Iranian Shah flees Iran with his family for good and relocates to Egypt

What's your biggest regret when it comes to eu5? For me I regret the fact that the devs, despite their best intentions early on, seem to completely disregard their design philosophy and are now trying to bring the game more in line with eu4. YouTubers are openly crying for mission trees and mana, and saying they're not allowed to have any negative modifiers (see: complecancy) and they'll give it to them. Outside of eu5 it's this

there was no "eastern roman empire" that was a separate state from the roman empire. Even after theodosius, it was a single roman empire that was ruled by multiple emperors. the "western roman empire" and "eastern roman empire" are just the names of regions, not historical states. Even as they acted more independent from each other, emperors were still regional rulers of the one singular roman empire. Saying "it was the eastern roman empire not the roman empire" is like saying "los angeles isn't in the usa it's in california"

los angeles isn't in the usa, it's in commiefornia

What are the must have mods for EUV? I’m not looking to change the map, or have some complete change to the three or full overhaul. I wanna know what are the mods that fix the problems in the base game? I already have No Casus Belli Wars Removed, Reasonable Prices, Hussites (More Brutal Hussite Wars), The Wrath of Timur, Hide Annoying Alerts, Estate Income & Bankruptcy Fix, Dynamic Discovery Spread, Dense Tech Tree, Historical Tweaks, Fix Red Turban Rebellion, No Early Colonization, Limited African Colonization, and Restricted Colonization.
Are there any others I should get? Any I should remove and replace?

so how come saloniki used to be a major commercial port for the osman empire but was completely squandered under the greek administration? imagine how rich the gayreeks could have been...
>>
then why did they name it Kijew? next you'll be saying that Roma isn't 95% Roma
>>
how come roman empire was big and strong while greece is small and weak?
>>
yes, after all a small country could never hope to maintain and grow a major commercial port — this is why antwerp is a tiny fishing village
>>
what connects antwerp and what connects solun?
>>
water, that's why they're port cities
>>
what does antwerp connect and what does selanik connect?
>>
land to sea, in both cases, i believe
>>
they all connect people to people
for the human race
>>
thanks for clarification, mate! now even i don't understand why salonika is unimportant
>>
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman,_Romania
>>
thank you, minister
>>
it's important relative to the rest of Greece
but you're comparing Belgium, one of the core parts of the industrial revolution and one of the most urbanised places on Earth, to... Greece.
what, are you also going to be surprised that Djibouti (city) is less important as a port than Antwerp despite it also being a national capital?
>>
yes, i am comparing the richest part of the osmanoglu realm, a major exporter of exquisite wines and textiles and let us not forget philosophy, to some little tin pot north european swamp
in fact both of those major ports imported and exported goods not just for themselves but for the major surrounding regions. the salonika is a gateway to the balkans and most importantly is not subject to the steep dardanelles tolls and turkish restrictions
what i'm saying is that salonika falling into irrelevance is purely down to greek mismanagement and not because of some immutable quality of the location. in fact it's a better location than antwerp, because antwerp has major competitors right next door: rotterdam and dunkirk, to name a few. salonika on the other hand, is peerless
>>
>>2324574
that's a lot more jews than i expected
hitler really did a number on em, huh
>>
that was the balfour declaration, actually, and the main reason for it i might add. why expel the jews when you can just convince them to leave on their own? a very british solution
>>
how much revenue did the Ottomans get from exporting philosophy in 1911?
>>
oh true i forgor that a lot of them just left on their own to go to israel or jewish york city
>>
directly, not very much, but the secondary and tertiary knock-on benefits were immeasurable, both in terms of monetary gains and international prestige
>>
i believe the proper vernacular is "jew york city"
>>
oh yeah? according to who tough guy
>>
so I suppose you can name one (1) philosopher from Ottoman-era Thessalonika
>>
according to a considerable body of opinion
>>
well that's easy, sabbatai tsevi's work has influenced the whole world and is still influencing it to this day
the man might not have been born in salonika, but he spent a considerable part of his life there
>>
sabbatai tsevi is not a real person, you just made that name up
>>
you might say your willy is in exile, to doorn
>>
good point
the Jewish community there was very influential, until it disappeared owing to Greek mismanagement and no other issues
>>
it is very diplomatic to call a pogrom "mismanagement"
>>
not even jews like sabbatai zevi kek, friendly reminder he converted to Islam to save his own asa
>>
yes, and one of his descendants, mustafa kemal, deposed the sultan for that. it only took a couple hundred years
also he didn't convert, he just said he converted

I haven't played eu5 yet but the complaints I've heard were that blobbing is very stupid economically and late game it's just extremely costly while peace deals are the eu4 equivalent of having -25% admin efficiency.
Blobbing should be costly but not completely counterproductive or tedious. World conquests are stupid as fuck and I hated how the gameplay of eu4 just came down to map painting. But at least let me restore Trajan's borders nigga, even if it means I'm super overextended by the end of it

by the centuries old cartographical definition, it is the representation of the surface of the globe spread onto a two dimensional surface of a piece of paper

then again if we use the surface of the computer screen as the flatness defining part then all grandi strategy games have flat maps

Yea eu4s vanilla map is very ugly but the map mods can look fantastic. I guess that's a positive of having an ugly map, it encourages modders to fix it so you have a huge variety of great looking maps to choose from. Ck3 had like one or two map mods and they weren't even updated

CK3 actually makes the crusades more immersive, the smooth levantine coastlines, the scorching deserts, the winding rivers, even the cute little pyramids all sell the setting
>>
>
lol
>>
Landmarks are something that's very important too for immersion. Even if it's not to scale, seeing the pyramids or the dome of the rock really makes you feel more like you're in Egypt or Jerusalem. Like the graphic of the Theodosian walls and compact urban site of Constantinople really makes it feel more like the heavily defended metropolis it was, as opposed to just any other province.
It really does make you wonder how anyone can like the vic2 map, it's so fucking bland and boring to look at, you're basically zooming into a png

And then after the Crusade they immediately all convert to Islam. Very immersive.
>>
they've gone native
>>
When's the last time you played ck3? I've witnessed a ton of crusades but never the crusader state straight up converting. Usually I've just seen them get gobbled up by a blob or balkanize from rebellions. Are you sure you weren't just seeing them deposed and replaced with some native?
>>
have they even introduced any substantial mechanical improvement dlcs for ck3?
it really feels like the development for new paradox games is glacially slow
>>
>When's the last time you played ck3?
Doesn’t matter, they released CRUSADER KINGS 3 with completely broken Crusades and I’m never going to stop mentioning it.
>>
look, chud, the game is not about crusades, kings, or the political influence of the catholic church over the whole of the civilised world, it's about unga bunga sapmi chieftains sacrificing newborns so that the sun rises next day forming huge blobby empires

People really confuse historical mechanics with historical outcomes. A game can have historical mechanics, but very ahistorical borders by the end date. History is full of the right people coming up at the right time and completely random events. If the caliphate or mongol or Frankish empire never existed, you'd be calling them absolute bullshit blobs if you saw a player with their borders in ck3. All it takes in history to make or break a kingdom is one bad or good ruler. GSGs would be extremely boring if they tried to be as historical as possible when it comes to borders, it'd always be the same thing. You can railroad it a bit with historical mechanics though. For example, Britain's geography making them prone to Norse invasions, or Iberia's location making the reconquista inevitable, or Rome being completely surrounded by enemies while infighting making their fall inevitable. Saying a game isn't historical because outcomes are different is very stupid and completely ignores what actually makes a game interesting
>>
paradox games have neither and i doubt anyone here in /gsg/ is stupid enough to confuse the two. if they do so it's on purpose

capitalist (and upper class in general) rebellions are a piece of cake. it's a unit of hussars or artillery spawning in a major city
the main threat of discontent capitalists is that they start political movements which other pops join even though they might not be that discontent themselves. then they get radicalised by the movement

Lithuania is no little fish.
Biggest issues at the start are being surrounded by Poland (quite strong) and Muscovy (very strong). It doesn't help that about 60% of our people believe in the wrong version of Christianity.
Still, we have a moderately large army and economy to work with.

>ok first of all, no humans but jesus is without a sin, so we're all but a villain in the eyes of the omni-benevolent

is this another word for sinner
if so, then we're all sinners
>he did so believing jesus was the worldy messiah that will rise up against the romans so he wanted to hasten or even force jesus to reveal his true powerlevel
there is no verse stating such a scheme
what a foolish man judas would be, then, if he thought he knew the best way without jesus' prior input
>third of all, suicide is not the worst sin there is, not even close
killing yourself is evidently annihilating yourself utterly to the point where your life is unsalvageable in the physical plane, effectively overriding any plan that god may have for you
doesn't look very good on your spiritual resume when it is decided what becomes of you in the afterlife, does it?
>>
>without jesus' prior input
what would such input look like? perhaps he would gather all of the disciples around and inform them that one of them was to sell him out?
>>
okay i know that he made this revelation
what is your point?
he wasn't saying like "alright, i need one of you niggers to do this to me" or anything

if the omniscient, omnipotent being in a human skinsuit says "yo this shit's gonna happen", it's gonna happen
what was Mr. Iscariot supposed to do? NOT do the thing that G-d had predestined for him?
>>
whether or not judas was actually originally god's tool to getting the job done or not isn't what i'm willing to debate
but on the other hand, judas thinking he got the plan all figured out sounds like foolishness,
and i also don't believe his motive was even of helping jesus fulfill a role
i also think greed played a big contributor to his decision
>>
>>2329668
>there is no verse stating such a scheme
What about the whole gospel that's literally just that and which got excluded in favour of telling the same story three times over because they had a quota of exactly four gospels for four directions
>>
no, i was saying there was no scheme conjured by judas to conspire in this
in other words, judas only did it for the money and not for helping jesus/god out in their plan
his scheme was to make money, even though it helped out humanity in the end
>>
>is "villain" another word for sinner
yes, we need to be reborn in spirit filled with the holy spirit for it not to be the case
>if so, then we're all sinners
duh, that's literally the one message of the gospel, that we are all in need of a savior (that's it if you don't wanna perish but desire everlasting life)
>there is no verse stating such a scheme
>what a foolish man judas would be, then, if he thought he knew the best way without jesus' prior input
Acts 1:6 So when they had come together, they were asking Him, saying, “Lord, is it at this time You are restoring the kingdom to Israel?”
Mark 8:31-32 And He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. (32) And He was stating the matter openly. And Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him.
>killing yourself is evidently annihilating yourself utterly to the point where your life is unsalvageable in the physical plane, effectively overriding any plan that god may have for you
define killing yourself.
1. killing yourself because you are a doomer and hate everything God believes in = God can't force you to be with him when you evidently killed yourself just to stay away from him
2. killing yourself because other endless reasons but you've tried your best to hate sinful things = God saves
it's all in the heart (Mat 5:29), whether you're subscribed to jesus or not, the debts/sins? all taken care of.
>NOT do the thing that G-d had predestined for him?
there's no such thing as fate and Jesus wasn't entitled to his villain (judas) an intervention
>and i also don't believe his motive was even of helping jesus fulfill a role
judas literally witnessed laws of physics defying miracles every other day (jesus healed everybody on his path). also virtually all jews at the time, even some disciples still thought that jesus will be a military leader
>>
*judas was literally an OG disciple and had witnessed laws of physics defying miracles every other day and still called him just a rabbi to the very last supper
>>
>define killing yourself.
there is literally no two versions of this
judas ended his own life, he committed suicide as successfully as throwing himself off a skyscraper or jumping into a pit of vipers and tickling them into biting him, or drawing a blade against an angry roman soldier with the intent of having him kill him, suicide is suicide is suicide
>>
Last one is kosher though
>>
yes there fucking are 2 versions of suicide
because of its nature, suicide is the last act someone would be experiencing before the 1st death and the subsequent judgement day
if you took your life while still in love with sin and then woke up on the judgement day, most people believe you'll be too late, jesus himself even called judas the son of perdition and said that it's better for him not to be born at all (he's cooked thoroughly). although i want to believe that, on the judgement, jesus will show up and shill goodness for the last time and those who still won't accept that lifestyle will perish forevermore
>>
>if you took your life while still in love with sin and then woke up on the judgement day,
as opposed to taking your life while NOT in love with sin?
let me tell you something
nobody who is right with god will try to kill themselves
that's some stupid godless "gamer" move that only godless 'gaymer' logic-brained bugmen would ascribe to as the smart way to fast-track and hustle their way into heaven
doesn't work though
the obedient servant's heart doesn't work that way
>>
well the bad news is that, woe to you faggot, absolutely no one can be an enough obedient servant to the Lord, not in this entropy imbued satan's space time continuum ville
>For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23)
even the tiniest of sin deserves God's capital punishment
>For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God. not by works, so that no one can boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9)
>Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. (Matt 22:37)
>>
Do you want to post your current campaign?
>>
that's irrelevant, what i'm trying to tell you is that suicide is the product of someone who is so far astray from god that he's going to hell
