Tried the game.Combat seems solid but a bit... mechanical? Like it's somewhere in-between a Total War game and a turn based game like Fields of Glory. Campaign seems way, WAY too dry though.

I like the idea but the game has some serious problems right now.First, the actual battles have some weird animation to them. Typically for me what happens is the phalanxes start to square off, but only the first couple ranks actually fight. The remainder stand back and do nothing. As the first ranks die, it would seem that the guys to the rear would step up and start fighting, but what actually appears to happen is everyone just starts standing around.Second is that your forces have absolutely no intelligence to them at all. I'll set up sweet looking flanking maneuvers but when I actually hit the enemy, half of my guys don't wrap around or try to get into combat at all. What should be a devastating cavalry charge instead peels off maybe 1/4 of the phalanx with no issue into a prolonged melee. It's like nobody has any initiative at all, once they can't reach combat they just seem to give up. It really looks less cool than it should as well.

They are better than Rome 1 and remastered, but still, I want at least Rome 2 levels, but gameplay seems good and it's good to see some competition for Total War. That said, it's not on GoG, so I'm not going to buy it for now, probably. I don't like being forced to use Steam.
