I last played this game 3 years ago and i remmeber I almost fnished the campaign before the chaos expansion. Should I restart of finish it? Not sure why I quit but IIRC I can move my guys to the next campaign.
No. It has some neat ideas, but the missions are more or less all supreme meatgrinders where you slowly slog the same four guys around the same four maps back and forth and back and forth. Story missions have broken scripting. Enemies have gigantic HP bloat. Wargear and level up options are basically linear. Maybe Chaos Rising fixed some of this, but normal and hard difficulty in the original wore me out.
Same I got a quarter through the chaos expansion and quit, its just too much of a slog for me. I like having a team and going from planet to planet but I prefer the old DoW style of leading actual full armies to conquer a planet.
>>2325954I like the idea of Dawn of War 2 a lot. It's really just a case of bad single player level design. Relic for some reason has never been able to execute a decent single player in terms of gameplay.
>>2325877dow2 is a great game and a glimpse at modern a rts/rpg we were deniedit's not perfect but if you avoid optional missions (because they are simply recycled) it's still very good imochaos rising improved the game a lot by cutting a huge amount of fat and having some branching pathsif dow4 had been an extension of chaos rising instead of some aborted mishmash of pandering to dow1 fans and chasing trends then it could have been awesome>>2325915>but normal and hard difficulty in the original wore me out.lmao you are just shiteven on primarch you can obliterate enemies in secondsthe game basically boils down to positioning and using your spells wellthis is why thaddeus is good despite the fact everyone cries about him being the worst - he can jump in, cc everything, take out an eldar weapons platform or a warrior, and then get outif you're just sitting in firefights then i'm sure it is a slog but that is not how the game is designedthe only real exceptions are carnifex and wraithlords which can take a pounding unless you came with the right equipment or weapons (for example the missile launcher trivializes them but it's a huge commitment to killing them)
>>2325954>>2326225if you had basebuilding and army control, these huge slog maps would be justified as you could just bust in with dreadnoughts, predators and terminators. But with just 4 guys it's fucking boring. At least Retribution cut down on map size and made them more focused, even if it's short. And you can choose which faction you want to play, and they all have different dialogues and bantz and everything. Chaos Rising is just more boring one-note SM drama slop
>>2326276>>but normal and hard difficulty in the original wore me out.>lmao you are just shitI beat them, I just didn't find them fun for a good portion of it. It's really a matter of the map design being atrocious mirror maps that you have to repeat a dozen times. If Chaos Rising's map design and optional objectives had been in vanilla, it would have been golden.
>>2325877Go for it man
>>2326276>dow2 is a great game and a glimpse at modern a rts/rpg we were deniedthe harsh truth
>>2327363Completely forgot how to play it though. Theres only one big tyranid infestation remaining. Can I restart the mission if my guys all get killed?
CAPTAIN THUUUULE!
>>2327625We should have gotten dreadnaught earlier rather than gated behind 5 story missions. By the time you get him, he can’t catch up with the rest of the team level-wise except for some true meme builds.
>>2327635Dow2s campaign is branched. You can rush him if you do the jungle world quests first, at which point he arrives basically in line with the rest of your crew's levels. The downside is that doing his quests first delays getting the terminator armour from the city world.I'm not actually sure which is the better choice. I think terminator avitus with the autocannon and Thule with the dreadnought autocannon are similar dps monsters.
>>2328126I wish the tyranid infestation level actually meant something besides a score at the end.
