Man, being a Crusader King is kinda boring. I basically just declare war on Fatimids and wait until the truce ends so I can declare another war on the Fatimids. I'm probably just gonna have to start conquering Sicily to make it less boring or something.

The Mani peninsula in southern Greece was majority Greco-Roman pagan until the 9th century AD, being the last known region to abandon the religion.Paradox devs have known this for years but refuse to make the associated county Hellenic in the early start date just le because they want to make restoring Hellenism as hard as possible. They could make a historically plausible Hellenic adventurer start based around this or something, but no, no fun allowed.Putting their own desires before historical accuracy pisses me off!

Have there been significant changes since the landless DLC? Road to Power or whatever it was called. I last played then and it looked like only poorly received DLC and updates came out since then.
After years of waiting for the game to build up, I just bought CK3. What mods are recommended? QoL, Ruler Designer expander things. And are there any really good total conversions? I know there's a Warhammer Fantasy, LotR and TES ones, are they good?
>>2345712It's good for one nomad and one landless runEverything else in ck3 is shit tier
>>2345315The only one that’s worth the upkeep right now is the legendary blademaster accolade. They teach you and your current heir blademaster every 3 years.

>>2345712The problem is not a lack of features, the game is shit on a fundamental game design level
>>2346439Elder Kings 2 is a great mod and more interesting than the base game
>>2346439I want to recommend After the End but it's gotten very gay and very Jewish since the original guys abandoned the CK2 version. Maybe worth a look but YMMV.
>>2346439Grab EK2 (that's the elder scrolls mod) + Systrean Restoration (fixes a retarded retcon EK2 devs did recently), CK3's mechanics work way better for that setting plus it fixes some of the mechanics (religions are way more detailed / nuanced for example; cultures are actually tied to specific regions where they spread more easily so there's less culture gore; etc). Although be aware that EK2 is currently for version 17 of CK3, not version 18, so you need to opt in to the older beta. Also CK3 is actually a pretty good porn game, grab carnalitas off loverslab and all the degeneracy you want on top (but be aware as well that you need to grab the versions for the version of CK3 you're on, if you do use a total conversion that's on an older version, like EK2)
Just got Mandate of Heaven and Horse Lords 2.0 and need help choosing a first playthrough. I can't decide between>Japanese Daimyo>finally try Persia>raise army as Finnish adventurer, travel to and subjugate Korea
>>2346439>And are there any really good total conversions?Princes of Darkness is a very easy recommendation for trying out, and they are up to date fast as fuck in relation to DLCs/patches. Very communicative too from what I've seen.Might not work with some other mods though. It'll throw up a warning against Better Barbershop for instance last I checked. Something about it fucking with menus.
>>2346895Japanese Daimyo is probably the most novel of the 3
I hope we get a dlc like Monks and Mystics for CK3.

Now I'm trying to max out my income, be a good governor, and play more politics to increase my own family's influence while keeping the Saga bloc from becoming powerful enough to break the system. I was forced into the Saga bloc before I even got the governorship but switched over to supporting the Sugawara for balance and also because they paid me. >>2348088I'm actually still here and I'm really enjoying this run, but I don't want to be Kampaku. The administrative government is kind of fucked because high turnover for the lesser houses lets a few established clans grab a bunch of offices then use their power to constantly start civil wars by forming claimant factions or making offices hereditary. My galaxy brained six million layer keikaku is to grab all the administrative offices on Shikoku for my family, ask the Kampaku to become a Sōryō vassal legally, then Assert Regional Dominion without a fight because the other offices in the duchy are held by my family members. After that I'll either try to become the shogun and restore order or overthrow the regency and help the actual Emperor unfuck the administrative system. Also it's retarded that I have to go to Chang'an to get Silk Road Innovations. China is literally right there, why do I have to walk to the far side of it?

>>2350064Well they blacked up the Systres (which are canonically Breton, in fact they're so Breton that in the Oblivion remaster you can pick between High Rock and Systres subraces when making a Breton character) and then seethed and banned people when anyone complained, so seems unsurprising.
>>2349534Is marriage broken in this mod? I keep seeing kings marrying their sons to foreignersLike this guy, heir to Wayrest but he was married off to the now queen of Daggerfall matrilineally

>>2350719I will strongly recommend CK2, if you actually care about the strategy part of the strategy game.Obviously the game itself is still very good at the larp aspects, but it rewards you more the more you engage with the dynasty management/realm building/intrigue systems. The map is also a lot more textured because of how different the religions/governments are and the regional mechanics (merchant republics, trade roads, nomads in the steppes)
>>2350719CK2 + creamapi + HIP is the best experience rn
>>2350539Sorry, I gave up on that mod already since I couldn't find a working submod for default marriage law but yes it was the grandson and daughter of the starting characters of the earliest bookmark

>>2350737>I had to stop myself from easily marrying into every kings family because everyone was alright accepting a matrilineal marriage with my daughter with their first born sons and heirs and I was just an adventurer turned countif that's the case with no absolutely no other mod in use, and especially not some art mod since those are supposedly gremlins when it comes to introducing issues, then yeah that sounds like odd as fuck behavior coming from playing it prior to AuH releaseI haven't gotten landed yet so I hadn't really had a chance to see it firsthand. >>2352370Always thought they were more on the caveman tan white side, still definitely white but years in the sun made them a caveman tan.Iirc the reason they turned them back into normal-ish Bretons and shit was because "original" lore basically made them Nordic/Breton colonists and settlers who were just kinda celtic and independent from the rest back in PGE. Newer lore basically made them a mongrel race bred from Orcs, Nords, Bretons and whatever nedes were still in the area and practiced worship of Daedra.
>>2352586>highest power in the worldQuite comparable, yes>Emperor of EmperorsGameplay mechanic because the scope of Empire in the East isn't the same as Empire in the west. The most fun I ever had was being a Norse Duke of Normandy under France, having the king start a revocation war, lose to him, have my guy die, then watch as my eight-year old son is made to wander with a camp for twelve years, rebuilding. He eventually took Lotharingia, most of the Netherlands, Burgundy, Normandy, and half of France, all in revenge wars with claims. A real Return of the King moment. That was peak gaming. But moments like that are incredibly few in CK3.
>>2353798I want to like Imperator, but the problem is I like playing no name kingdoms and building them up. And you can't do that because Rome just stomps right up to you with giga armies. If only they gave a scenario BEFORE the ascendancy of Rome so you had time to build up first.

Picking a start date was always going to be difficult.Between Alexander's death and Ipsu,s shit is messy.During Achcmenids there is no point because the Achaemenids would be overpowered.I feel the latest viable start date would have been 626 BC. Which was the beginning of Neo-Babylonian revolt against Neo-Assyria.

>>2353995That's how I feel playing anywhere near pic related.Assuming it is the same in CK3 at least event troops never regenerate manpower so even if you lose one or two wars you can still bounce back as long as you inflict great losses on them.
>>2354089The only special troops worth mentioning in ck3 are crusader heavy infantry and assorted bandits from adventurer. Bandits being pretty much player only and only because they're both free and you can get insane numbers of them. But those order heavy infantry and all other special troops can't be stationed so base stats and can't refill while not being immune to attrition or siege attrition. So, former means you can kill mongol horse archers 50:1 with basic ass MAAs since ai is dumb as shit and will attack you in mountains and latter means you need battles not wars to attrition him. Of note all special troops disband on succession so if you're a single county or something when 7 gorillion horsefags come a knocking you can still assassinate the khan or the like and remove them from the game with no questions asked. In short don't be fooled by random whining.
>>2353995>play anywhere in Persia>Seljuk spawnsIn CK2 there's Sabuktigin Ghaznavid, then Seljuk a few decades later, then Genghis Khan in the early 1200s and finally Timur around 1350.It's certainly the toughest region to keep a hold of in the game because of great conquerors always wanting a piece (or all) of it. I wonder why everyone wanted this mountainous, difficult terrain.
>>2354195>I wonder why everyone wanted this mountainous, difficult terrain. The main silkroad goes through Persia. Trade routes connecting East and West print money.
>>2354195Tin and cedar, then incense and sandalwood, then silk and spices and now oil. Think of it as you would of india, as long as you don't consider pajeets the land is both very habitable and rich.
>>2353273>mfw greed is a sin in CK3 Judaism
I don't think Seljuk ever recovered in CK2 with whatever changes accompanied the map getting extended east to the Tarim Basin/India, he either died to something random(/in battle as a commander?) before getting land or his initial army ate so much shit in his first war that he was little different from another random ducal shitterI forgot Ghaznavid could even spawn
>>2354294I've never seen him not conquer Persia.
>>2354294Seljuk has the problem that his initial force is scaled based on who controls Merv. So he can easily lose if some puny shitter has the target area and has allies. But then he if he wins he gets a doomstack like Sabuktigin and his descendants can even get resurgence for more troops.
I hate how most Total Conversion mods for this game are in the "develop irrelevant shit nobody cares about now and put 0 thought into mechanics people care for". Realms in Exile had finally added more invaders after spending all their time focusing on some dumbass nigger cultures nobody plays, and EK2 niggas actively kill submods while cutting out cultures out of their mod. What the fuck are these retards doing?
>>2354524>AGOT for CK3 still hasn't added a pre-Conquest or War of the Five Kings bookmark and keeps trying to piggyback off the new shows instead
>>2354524Does Realms in Exile even have Fellowship events right now?
>>2354294I haven't seen Seljuk conquer Persia or acquire the conqueror trait in any of my campaigns. He usually consolidates his realm in northern Persia while the Abbablob takes over.

I legitimately do not understand why they did not add in Africa as a hegemonyyeah it would be a shitty meme title but there's literally a decision called "Unite Africa", why do you not let me unite it?
>>2355083Good, whites don't deserve good thingsShame about blacks though>>2355088Apparently all hegemonies are supposed to be historical. As in existing previously. But by that metric India shouldn't be a hegemony as well, as it was never united before brits came
I wish I wasn't revolted by nord/falmer hybrids as much as I am, I'd rather focus on anything else than keeping Nords out of my vassal's pants
>>2354534I think the former is mostly because king's landing wasn't a thing before Aegon and since you can't replace terrain with the current engine the devs just gave up on that. I heard they're not making the War of the Five Kings because they "need" to implement the white walkers correctly, even though a submod already did good enough on that front.Btw wich agot hoe you fuckin? I'm rebuilding Harrenhal and giving Danelle Lothston a son for each tower repaired.
>>2355100>But by that metric India shouldn't be a hegemony as well, as it was never united before brits cameWasn't there that ashoka bauvragati fella that killed a bunch of jeets then went "boohoo i'm sad ill become buddhist now"?
Here's your White Hegemony.
>>2355083>>2355088>>2355100I just don't get why you're not allowed to form a custom hegemon if you hold three or more empire titles. Yeah yeah they want the hegemon titles to have historical 'flavor' or whatever, but in that case just add a rule that you can't do it when two or more of the empire titles already belong to a de jure hegemony.

Marrying outside of the culture group ticks my autism more than I'd like to admit.
>>2355352my favourite historical instance of this sort of thing is that Henry I of France (the king just before Philip, the king in 1066) took Anne of Kiev as his wife solely because Kiev was the closest place with a viable candidate which wouldn't be incestuous by church standards
>>2355359I'm sure her reportedly enormous dowry had nothing to do with it.

The bitch was rich, 18 years younger than Henry, had ties to Bohemia and Poland and the Pope was happy because he got to stick it to the byzanmemes.Do a google search deeper than wikipedia my man. It's a fairly interesting story.
>>2355405Not sure what the Reims Gospel has to do with Anne of Kiev, considering it only enters France 500 years after she does, but good to know all the same
>>2355410Right? It's not like it was called Bible of Anna Yaroslavna or anything before some Hussite wiped his ass with the original. To be fair probably something Peter the Great capitalized on and pulled out his ass but again, interesting story not fully covered by zoompedia.
>>2355413Or much of the Anglophone internet in general outside of like two Ukrainian websites, one of which explicitly refers to the origin with Anna Yaroslavna as a "legend".Regardless, if the part that came with Anna was the big deal, surely you can name any French monarchs who used it in their coronation before the Caroline half showed up?
>>2355414>capitalizing the F in frenchI can deal with you being a passive aggressive douchebag desperately trying to get a one up on some random in a pissing match that only exists in your own head. Treating them bowlegged chainsmoking cheese munchers as... people. Ew. Seriously nigga. Dislodge that stick from your ass and have a normal chat if you're capable. >>2352354One of the devs was having a melty at white people for ... some reason and decided to remove the canon Bretons from the Systres and add Redgaurds just because (even though the sea is already full of Redguards). Was just bizarre.
>>2355580I don't recall seeing anything about wypeppo melty prior to Systres getting the axe myself and I sit in there harmlessly. I think the stated reasoning was that it was never intended to be in a release build to begin with and in their infinite wisdom decided to shitcan it in favor of something supposedly more suitable for the time period. At least one dev stated it was intended to give Bretons a decision to form the culture on holding the islands, but I never had access to it myself when I tried having a go at it after seeing that statement, so I assume they had some internal disagreement or the guy who wanted to do it lost interest and fucked off.fuck knows what contentious autism has been going on in their dev channels lately
>>2355196Yes. Although, as the comparison in ck2 goes, Alexander’s empire could be seen as a hegemon as well. Perhaps they didn’t do that because it fell apart immediately when he died.
EK2 is literally unplayable without using the male preference mod not because of bigotry but because the AI can't handle equal succession
>>2355783works in my realm of ticcing the isolationist button while exclusively landing children after ensuring they won't be able to make goofy-ass children with goofy-ass nords. >>2350735Ok, so, I creampied the game. What is this HIP stuff? A mod overhaul I get it? How does it change the game, and shold I use it for a first playthrough?
>>2355826HIP is a mod that supposedly makes the map and some mechanics more historically accurate and also balance the game to make it more difficult.I liked most of the changes but I disliked the smaller map (it removes India and a chunk of the eastern map) and dropped a campaign when I found out you can't raid anymore after reforming a pagan religion and converting to feudal.Play the vanilla game (with all de DLC) on your first playthrough. If you like it, try HIP afterwards.
>>2348727Still standing. After not playing for many days I was pleasantly surprised to go back to the campaign and immediately see Khazaria split after the Khagan's death. My old ruler died and I immediately attacked my brothers for my lost counties and launched a subjugation on Novgorod.I CONFESS though, I cheesed for gold by inviting everyone I could with 20+ and abusing imprison + banishment. I was afraid to be attacked by nomads and not have gold to hire enough mercenary bands to survive and I really don't want to start another campaign. When I was done uh, collecting everyone's donations, I had to basically imprison, revoke and kick out all of my vassals + my courtiers because everyone had -3000 opinion of me from the tyranny. It's for the greater good though, for the survival of the Suomenusko faith and the finno-ugric peoples, I'm sure they'll understand.

>>2355083>>2355100>>2355317Rome has always been the "Hegemony of Europe." The title of "Roman Emperor" is synonymous with "The Ruler of Europe / Western Civilization." Any European empire that would have succeeded in conquering most of Europe would have naturally evolved into being "The Roman Empire." Even as late as the 19th century, Napoleon Bonaparte tried to style himself as a "Roman Emperor." You could even argue that Nazi Germany in the 20th century was trying to roleplay as a "Roman Empire."

So why does CK3 treat witchcraft as a universal constant that exist everywhere? In the first place, shouldn't witchcraft basically be the character secretly converting to some pagan religion?
>>2358974>In the first place, shouldn't witchcraft basically be the character secretly converting to some pagan religion?noPlenty of proper Catholics, at least, practiced witchcraft during the medieval era, though IIRC it was mostly starting in the 1200s
>>2358975What? That's blatantly falseSure, there were plenty of degrees of non-standardized practices due to the difficulties of maintining church orthodoxy, particularly across the whole of Christendom when you had expanding/shrinking frontiers, localized sycreticism, and cultural exchange, but never "practicing" witchcraft. It would be subtle things, often traditions that were created over the conversion practices--spin a maypole, celebrate the midsommar, etc, but they're overwritten with christian teachings and cultural normals of the time because people are still people and enjoy a festivity and the seasons/celestial events are literally in front of their eyes. To seek out a wizened woodswoman for herbs wasn't witchcraft, for after all, they were all part of God's creation, tooAs you mention about the 1200's, that's when the Dominicans were created to combat unorthodoxy, particularly amongst the Cathars and other splinter groups, who were eager to crack down on anything too unorthodox or syncretic, but, then again, it's not like the noblemen and women were gathering in cabals to sacrifice goats to secure the summer's eve--they were people going to a local esoteric for hopes of some help that could offer; nothing different than the Japanese getting a "good luck" charm from their local shrine to pass entrance exams--it's not like they're actively begging and sacrificing to the Kami, it's a cultural positivity. Sure, there are cases of people actively trying to curse and ruin other people, which was a part of mysticism, but it's also in the same context as trying to hire an assassin--a means to an end
>>2359066For one example please consult the University of Paris' Condemnation of 1277.You don't issue a denunciation of "the books, scrolls, and leaflets dealing with necromancy, or containing experiments in fortunetelling, invocations of devils or incantations endangering lives, or in which these and similar things evidently contrary to the orthodox faith and good morals are treated", nor do you "pronounce the sentence of excommunication against those who shall have taught the said scrolls, books, and leaflets, or listened tothem, unless they reveal themselves... within seven days in the manner described" unless there are people actually doing that among your ranks.
>>2358975Anon... Not even a catholcuck and I know you're full of shit.
>>2359095Not sure why you're trying to imply the need for Catholic apologetics? It's not like I singled out Catholicism because I perceive it as a religion of demon-worshippers, just because A: it's Crusader Kings so the emphasis is (ostensibly) on the guys doing the Crusades and B: it's the one I'm most familiar with sources for in the time periodthe point is that you can believe everything Catholicism teaches, to the letter, and still decide that "yeah, actually, I'm gonna talk with Satan instead." Or any other sect of Christianity. Or the equivalent for any other religion. Suggesting that witchcraft should change your religion is some hardcore no-true-Scotsman shit
>>2359093That is a correct assumption, but that isn't proof that "Plenty of proper Catholics... practiced witchcraft during the medieval era"As I said, the Dominicans were hunting Cathars and aware of any idiosyncrasies in the 1200's. The condemnation itself was a trial against Aristotlian beliefs, a repeat of previous condemnations. That there were people were attempting fortunetelling or seeking scrolls of the necromancy are, as a mentioned, an outlier. I am not familiar with the sources for the Condemnation, but, in my interpretation, it's the same kind of warning of a company mass email--one guy suffered an injury not wearing his safety gloves, that doesn't mean that everyone leaves their gloves in a truck. Some churchmen found one or two localized instances, or even a group of people together--it wasn't a whole village in romping Saturnalia or a cabal of nobles abducting children. It's like saying "Plenty of proper gsg players are trans" because HoI4 exists. They are a tremendously extreme, though vocal, minority, not "plenty."
>>2359107Bruh... you might legitimately be brain damaged.
>>2359109>>2359111I will concede that "plenty" may not have been the best word but I stand by my point - at least in the minds of the elites, there was a very real threat of some of the educated and elite, the two groups that make up the majority of characters in this game and which include the clergy, taking up black magic. The addition of witchcraft as a serious mechanic is a shitty meme in general though and it was in 2 as well. Big problem is that before the inquisitions of the 1200s, nobody took any of this shit seriously. Saying that witchcraft should make you a pagan because they would denounce you as such doesn't hold up as well when for the majority of the game's timeframe, you'd get that treatment merely for believing that they existed at all.But "lmao you discovered someone else's witch secret, guess YOU'RE gonna get fucked in the ass by the Pope" isn't really a fun gameplay mechanic
>>2359129Your loss.
>>2359129Yeah, I'll agree that's all reasonable

why the fuck is Serana asexual in ek2
>>2359353probably so nerds don't hyperventilate when she shows up in court with ticklebritch and about 6 orcish bastards
>>2359359but in seriousness, if she was willing to sex, she would wind up with an assortment of bastards and at least one STI, CK3 AI is in permahorny mode. Really, her and her mother should probably both be in "disappeared without a trace" death mode.
When's the Regula Magistri update?
Feels like so much of the semi-recent stuff in this game is just a complete mystery with little to no documentation.Like this decision for example. It's been over a year since the DLC released yet there's nothing about this anywhere. It's not in the dev diaries, it's not on the wiki. Shouldn't some autist have written something about this there by now? It seems to default to asking the Pope which depends on his opinion of you and he can give you 4500 special soldiers for the war only which is very cool but I have no idea what triggers it to cause a crusade or how that crusade involves you if it does at all
>>2359353In the original mod, she was celibate. It's what the other guy said + the fact she refuses to marry in Skyrim, as a result of Molag Bal rape trauma.

I know diddly shit about how the Systres was depicted in ESO but what little I did hear was like what, witch knights? Druidy fucks? It seems absolutely baffling that they wouldn't give them something exotic at some point with their own little namelist. I'll be dumping my AAR today, so filter me if you want to avoid my wordvomit{Count Eudes Robertine of Anjou}Eudes, son of Robert the Strong, was the count of Anjou, Samur, and Chartres. Only 10 years old, he had received his counties when his father had been slain by the viking warlord Hæsteinn the previous year at Brissarthe, one that had given the Norsemen the mouth the the Loire while maintaining Brenton control of Anjou's western borders. While it was Frankish custom to succeed the appointments of one's father, Eudes (or Odo) was underage and so his duchy had been confirmed to Hugo Welf, his half-brother through their mother Adelaide, with Eudes and his brother Robert being the Strong's immediate children. Having been confirmed to his father's lands in the Argengau, Hugo would remain mostly in the east, in Auxerre and Nevers, more preferable to the Yonne than the Loire. Thus, Eudes would be under the wardship of his elder half-sister, Bertha, who had some political sense in her: while the Robertines had done well for themselves and Neustria, Eudes was not the cream of Frankish nobility. Amongst possible matches in the realm, there were few eligible maidens who could serve Anjou, but for a low courtier in the Bellacin court of Prince Louis, whom would, at least, provide Eudes an entrance into the future-king's companions. Meanwhile, Bertha was not idle herself, having taken a husband in a miles by the name of Angelbert, that, while common-born, was a decent soldier: one who could teach Eudes what his deceased father could not. Squiring for many years while Roi Charles feuded with his kinsmen in Lotharingia, Eudes was excited when he heard that a great horde of Norsemen had invaded Flanders. Whilst they were unsure if Hæsteinn was amongst their number, the chance to learn what it was to fight the northmen would be valuable experience indeed.
>>2361785Instead of cleaning half-uncle Angelbert’s sword of blood, Eudes would merely clean it of rust: Roi Charles was more interested in Lotharingia, and so Eudes would come of age and receive the honor of Hugo’s council without any pagan blood. He would also take his wife, Heloise, who, while 7 years his senior, was appreciative enough of him and his manners. It wouldn’t be until the winter of 873 that the Frankish armies would finally finish their petty squabbles and make for Flanders, which had already been ravaged by the invading host. Roi Charles’ host would be accompanied by the King of Alba, Causantin Ailpin, who took Eudes under his wing, for this was his first time truly leading the Angevin men. In some way, the delay had proved fruitful: the Norsemen had been starved by the winter, and the swamps of Flanders hadn’t contributed to their supply. They had been forced to Lille, whose castle along the Leie was well stockpiled and defended. Lead by the miles from Bourbon, an excited cavalry charge took the enemy by surprise, and the force was destroyed with few issues--besides half-uncle Angelbert, whose maile now needed to be cleaned of his own blood.
>>2361786With parting words from the King of Alba, passing sympathies and prayers unto Bertha, Eudes return to Anjou came with the displeasing news that Hæsteinn had been sighted in Wales, apparently seizing a large portion of its northern lands. Fearing his return with veteran forces, the summer of 874 was spent drilling the Angevin army, for there was much that Eudes had learned from Causantin about fighting the Norsemen. However, by All Saints' Day, it turned out he had another reason to celebrate: Hæsteinn‘s armies had been vanquished the warlord had been forced to flee the field, all but his closest allies abandoning him--or dead! His lands driven into anarchy, Eudes was eager to test his new forces in Montaigu, seizing advantage over Hæsteinn’s former servants, but also contesting, and overpowering, the Duke of Poitiers, who had also attempted to steal Robert the Strong’s lands. Though suffering a gash across the face, Eudes would overcome Barthelemi and the remaining Norsemen, returning Montaigu into his domain. With that accounted for, Eudes could then look at other affairs, such as that of his brother, Robert, whom had been in the care of his other half-brother, Konrad Welf of Savoy. Indeed, one of Eudes’ ideas was that he could form an alliance with the King of Alba by betrothing Robert to one of the many daughters that Causantin had talked about. But that arrangement could wait for another day, for Heloise’s pregnancy had been premature, once again, and, to recover her spirits, Eudes sought to give her a comforting feast with all of her friends.(3/4)
>>2361788However, it would be a different kind of feast to remember, for Eudes’ wine had been spiked--cursed with some poison, no doubt planted by that gutless coward, Hæsteinn. How it had happened would be debated by many historians, for it was highly improbable that a viking servant would be able to infiltrate Anjou and deliver such a stealthy blow to his rival’s son, but the undisputed fact was that all blame, and anger, was directed towards the landless Norseman.{Count Ruprecht Robertine II of Anjou; r.877 - [878]}Robert, or Ruprecht as Konrad called him, tried to understand the news of his brother’s passing, for he had never met his brother in Savoy. It had only been a few times that he had met Eudes in Auxerre, for Konrad had been attending to some business with Hugo and had brought him along. He had never anticipated becoming the Count of Anjou, but, receiving its honors and appointments from his eldest half-brother, and, while Bertha would remain in control over the house over the Loire, and Konrad would teach Robert to rule his house, to lead men in war, and to hate the man who had killed both his father and his brother. At least there was one last gift that had been left by Eudes: a betrothal to Der-Ilei MacCausantin, and, with her hand, the armies of the King of Alba, whom would prove worthwhile allies in the years to come.(4/4)More will come later but I have to finish editing

>>2361789{Count Ruprecht Robertine II of Anjou}Robert, son of Robert the Strong, count of Anjou, was a boy caught between several words. To his immediacy was his half-brother, Hugo of Auxerre, who had presided over Anjou since the death of his father. Meanwhile, he had been raised in the German way by his other half-brother, Konrad of Savoy who served Roi Louis “the Younger” of Italy, rather than Roi Charles’ court. He had enjoyed his youth, split between Moûtiers, Ivrea, and Geneva, and he even commonly went more by Ruprecht than his birth name of Robert, and had been tutored in the ways of war, paging for his half-brother--something he would continue whilst his half-sister Bertha managed Anjou, just like she had during Eudes’ minority. It is from both Eudes’ and Robert’s memories that Ruprecht found his strength: both had been killed by the viking warlord Hæsteinn; the former by poison and the latter by an axe. Ruprecht, one day, would avenge them, in some way.(1/9)
>>2361890But the advantage would be Ruprecht’s, for Hæsteinn had lost his warhosts and, according to the Scottish merchants who braved the Irish Sea, and had taken up the company of the Chief of Mon, a depraved and cowardly viking, only second to Hæsteinn. With his life still to grow, Ruprecht was taught the ways of war, and, while Konrad did not serve in Roi Charles’ war against the Muhammadans in Iberia, he was quick to study and learn from them. Ransoming his uncle Eudes from the Sultan’s dungeons, Ruprecht was inquisitive of the aged soldier, learning much of what Konrad could not teach him. His eagerness for combat left him somewhat disappointed when he came of age after the war’s conclusion, though seeking out the veterans in Auxerre soon earned him a good reputation not only for strategy, but for logistics: like his brother before him, he was appointed as marshal by his half-brother Hugues.
>>2361898However, somewhat embarrassingly for a marshal, Hugues would be beset by bandits within his own domain. While they were unable to steal his treasury, they did hit the Duke quite firmly, in fact, that knocked his mind loose--and there was some suspicions from his wife, Amelie de Menthon, that it had been a ploy by Ruprecht to reclaim Robert the Strong’s honors. That had never been any intent of Ruprecht, but the thought was enticing in the back of his mind, and would germinate for some time. For, at the front of his mind, there were more pressing worries: somehow, Hæsteinn had returned with a large force that intended to conquer Brittany and, having secured a foothold in Léon, seemed like he would overpower Ulfret mab Alfrond if no assistance arrived from Causantin. Seeing an opportunity for Roi Charles to display his authority over that peninsula, and perhaps gain some recognition at the same time, Ruprecht went to a royal recital, hosted in Normandy, to plead his case against the Norsemen. His words fell upon many appealing ears, for many had suffered from the previous northmen invasions, but, as men began to rally behind Ruprecht, their enthusiasm faltered, for Causantin had arrived and defeated the Norsemen at Luigné, a victory that put an end to Hæsteinn’s ambitions. (3/9)
>>2361901Still, Ruprecht’s words had been appreciated and he was invited to speak with Archbishop Guethenhoiarn about his mission to defeat the vikings, which elevated his place beyond that of just a mere count. In fact, it had given him a series of new contacts: former warriors who were more than willing to take Frankish silver to rid the world of Robert the Strong’s killer. His determination would soon be put to the test, for King Causantin now found himself under siege from Ivar “the Boneless” of Suðreyjar, aiming to secure a hold on Inverness. Mustering out alongside Ulfret mab Alfrond, who disliked the aggressive Angevin and made him seek his own trainsport, Ruprecht sailed to Argyll, dispatching his contracted men to Man en route--who would later report back with news of Hæsteinn’s death, poisoned in the same way that he had killed Eudes. That victory raised morale within the Gaelic-Brenton-Frankish forces, as much as the arrival of an expedition from East Francia, with Count Udalrich of Breisgau leading the army of Oldenburg, experienced fighters against both vikings and the pagans of the east. Ruprecht was quick to strike up a friendship with the Swabian and learn of his kingdom’s strategies in combating the Northmen. (4/9)
>>2361906However, the year’s campaign season would be wasted by the pointless bickering of too many nobles, for a united force was needed to defeat the vikings, but no united front could be presented. While the lowlands were clear of Ivar’s men, the norsemen retained their position in the highlands, apparently fortifying Inverness and its length up to the Loch. From there, they expanded south, taking the hills and the glens, and, as the armies of Christendom debated and argued, Causantin’s family was seized from Scone, prompting the King of Alba’s formal surrender to the Boneless.Returning to Francia with some nominal pleasure in avenging Eudes, Ruprecht was then called into other family matters: King Louis of Italy had died, and his realm had been split between his daughters: Ermengarde would retain Italy, but her sister, the 14 year old Isabeau, would take reign over Provence and Savoy--something that Konrad Welf saw as inopportune. Having been fighting for the length of Ruprecht’s time in Scotland, the Ermengarde’s support had been a great challenge for the Savoyard, but Ruprecht believed he could repay his mentor with his experienced soldiers. (5/9)
>>2361908One particular ally in this fight would be Ruprecht’s nephew Wolfgang, though, Ruprecht spent little time with him, fighting the Provencals on the right bank of the Rhone while the Auxerrans took the left with the Savoyards. That would, unfortunately, leave them prey to Ermengarde’s forces, and, by the end of the season, Konrad and Wolfgang were defeated by the Empress, for the Karling sought to make claim on Charlemagne’s legacy over Rome. Too late to save his mentor, Ruprecht was further saddened when he passed away, ending the conflict, for his daughter, the hunchbacked Adelaide, bowed her head to Isabeau. Some would say it dishonored Konrad’s memory, but the Welfen of Savoy were already on their last legs: it was a fight they never could’ve won.(6/9)
>>2361911With Ermengarde’s proclamation of Emperor, Karl, who had united East Francia with the rebellious Bavarians, made his own play at Charlemagne’s honors, proclaiming a letter of recognition by the Papacy--though there is no good evidence to prove that was true: he was sort of a madman, if not zealous. Regardless, the usurpation of order in the Frankish realms would also be seen in Anjou, for Wolfgang’s losses alongside Konrad had devastated the Duke’s army, wheras the Angevin army had only minor losses against the Provencal garrisons. If there was any time for Ruprecht push his claim to his father’s titles, especially since Hugues had only received them for Odo’s minority. Though it would require some planning, for Causantin’s forces had recovered since his loss to the norsemen and only a portion could be sent when there were vikings on in the highlands. Adelaide's Savoyards were as weak as Wolfgang's, so there was little to be trusted from Burgundy. Meanwhile, those two successive campaigns hadn’t given gains to Ruprecht’s treasury, but there were some mercenaries willing to sell themselves cheaply: there were 400 Westmorland huscarls who needed to recover their gambling debts. Meanwhile, Wolfgang had allies in Poitiers and Flanders who were much closer, and so Ruprecht would have to be discreet in gathering his army--which was, unfortunately, not successful. Rather than be surrounded, Ruprecht made the tough decision to along the Brenton marches, avoiding Ulfret mab Alfrond’s eye, attempting to link up at Saint-Malo, but he was intercepted outside of Combourg, notably by a set of Wolfgang's own Anglo-Saxon mercenaries However, the strategic dance of posture and positioning lasted just long enough for Ruprecht's allies to arrive: outnumbering the Auxerran alliance 3:2, Count Lothaire of Poitiers gave way to Ruprecht.(7/9)
>>2361914What followed was a pleasing series of successes for Ruprecht, for the Angevins, Gaels, and Westmorland Roebucks would strike at Wolfgang’s divided forces and take their castles, while the Savoyards contributed little to the campaign. It would drag on for several years, but without any serious losses for Ruprecht’s forces, there were few further battles of particular note, besides Blois, which ended any resistance from Wolfgang, capturing Lothaire d’Auxerre, the most competent commander of his force. In the meanwhile, Roi Louis, the grandson of Charles “the Bald” (Louis “the Stammerer had been slain in battle during Eudes’ days) sought that his kingdom should be organized as one coherent bloc: unlike Provencal Burgundy’s split from Italia, the future heirs of Francia wouldn’t split Langueoïl and Languedoc. With the victory at Blois, Wolfgang agreed to confer the honors of his duchy, and kingly immediacy, upon Ruprecht, as was his rightful succession. In turn, the Duke of Anjou rewarded his allies, gifting Causantin horses and paying the Roebuck’s debts, as all honorable men should do.(8/9)
>>2361918While there were ducal duties to perform, the most immediate was that of royal prerogative: attending a melee in Reims, Ruprecht met with his king to confirm his oaths and titles, rightfully obtained, before joining with his cousin Eudes of Bourbon, winning the tourney. However, the time spent in along the Vesle had given time for Wolfgang’s friends to gather arms for their feud, particularly with the backing of Ulfret mab Alfrond, who hated nothing more than a strong Angevin duke on his borders, once again. While the de Cornouaille wasn’t related to King Salomon, who had allied with Hæsteinn against Robert the Strong, Ruprecht’s animosity was just the same.Much like his earlier war against Wolfgang, his enemies were near and his allies were far: while glories and titles could be won, holding them would be hard.(9/9)

>>2344418>I "centralize" the tribe by giving my subjects more power over the realm... wat?>they hate me for it>the sole benefit is a meager vassal limit increase, which makes no sense with the whole "centralization" thingcan someone explain me the retardation behind this? this looks like some gamey bullshit to make it more difficult to reform a tribe

>>2361927It doesn't give your vassals more power over the realm. It gives you (and your vassals) more power over your vassals and each other. It's basically saying that "rather than being a loose coalition of tribes who rely on the NAP to deal with each other, lets actually make some laws and whoever we vote isn't following the law we can legally strip their rights away instead of deciding everything through violence". You're making a feudal government out of pagan warlords who don't want to answer to some made-up law youre creating and are probably gonna use agains them eventually.

And the Mongols were reliant mainly on dogshit Chinese sailors, and preyed mainly on cultures that were in favourable terrain and/or undergoing severe social upheavals. They did well in the Chinese plains, the Russian plains & steppe, in peripheral areas near the Eurasian steppe, and in the Carpathian basin. They did poorly in densely forested & hilly regions, such as Vietnam, where cavalry was less manoeuvrable, grazing land was more scarce, and the locals were more adapted to a landscape that the Mongols were not.In Japan, a forested, hilly country, they would have been out of their element. And they weren't stupid, after operating there for a while they would have concluded it wasn't worth the losses / expense to try conquering, just as they did in Vietnam and Hungary.>"honourable" 1v1 fightingThe Japanese weren't stupid either, nobody expected that.
>The relative peace in Japan during the Kamakura period favored ideas of honor in battle, expressed in customs such as announcing one's family name and/or lineages before fighting, attempting to limit fights among warrior nobles to horseback archery or sword[16] duels[17] with no subterfuge or trickery, and conducting oneself like a legendary character or renowned hero (tales of daring were popular in the Kamakura period[18]).[19][20] Pre-bushido honor codes during this time were also contributed to by commoners, who sometimes took on similar roles to samurai[14] and often used their family names as introductions to fighting despite not being noble.[20] However, even during the relatively small family and land quarrels of this time, as well as duels thought to be honorable, warriors often disregarded these norms of combat and the announcement of family names or lineages was mostly a way to brag and assert a right to fight and/or gain whatever a faction was looking for after a fight.[19][20] Outright bragging was also known to happen.[13] These already tenuous codes of honor were weakened when the Japanese, expecting the invading Mongols to be laid-back with their combat, humiliatingly sent an envoy that fired a noisemaker arrow to officially commence the start of what the Japanese assumed would be a series of small duels and skirmishes.[20] Additionally, Mongols usually cut swathes through soldiers that attempted to announce their lineages before facing them.[19] Despite ultimately winning against the Mongols, these honor norms, along with the shogunate, were weakened enough to cause endemic division that led to the end of the Kamakura period and the court wars of the Nanboku-chō period.lmao

Like, you can influence the child up to two times in childhood if you would want them to have at least one or two of your personality traits, then the childhood events that fire up when they're older and develop their own personality, it will add either two or three ones, depending on whether you managed to give only one or two personality traits growing up.

>>2367365What's the point in just adding extra debilitating illness bloatware like this to the game for extra micromanaging? Was "Infirm" not enough of a 'catch-all' type of trait for old age? This is actually retarded. I could see it being somewhat interesting maybe first or second run but if you start seeing it over and over again on each of your character, it would just get super annoying. I think I'd just end up going out of my way to have them kill themselves more often or just put them in a dangerous situation or choose the most dangerous event option possible just to have them killed as soon as possible so I don't have to deal with these traits that have massive downsides. There seems to be a game rule option that allows you to disable them at least, and makes it so "Infirm" is the only trait that elder characters could gain, just like before, but it's still retarded nonetheless and it's going to be activated by default.Maybe it would be interesting if it spawns on AI rulers and that gives you more interesting ways to go against them, but otherwise, this just seems like needless bloat similar to how some mods like that ChatGPT flavor pack adds hundreds of needless and random retarded personality traits and whatnot.

Nah, let's remove the main advantage of another playstyle.Imo, domain limit should go altogether. Wonderful snow in the desert. On an unrelated note: can someone explained to me why Mahayana and Zoroastrian faiths view each other as Astray while Mahayana and Shinto are mutually Hostile?
Reinstalled after a while and after a couple false starts, finally a proper run (With RICE, Merchant Republic the Papacy expansion, ObsCKure)This is Liubice (Lubeck) in 1066 with RICE, which are basically the Christian Polabian sons of St. Gottshcalk, who get kicked out by pagans, and you have to reclaim Polabia and kill Krutoj. But you start with an Alliance with Saxony so killing both them and Luticia is cakewalk. Problem is you are poor as shit and start with no MAA, so good luck if people decide to raid you. Also the Elbe floods. Budivoj is also not a great character, at least he has learning so he can maybe get the theologian line as starters so you can quickly convert. But with some luck and some Normans I survived and later formed the Kingdom. Though only on the second character (Budivoj's only taughter, an absolute Mary sue girlboss with like 30 Martial and 40 Prowess at one point), cause I was slow with my conquests and I needed also to kick the Swedes from Pomerania (and why Danes own Prussia and I only that bit of Latvia).Well, I had managed to bring the Baltics under tribute (which is probably from some mod somewhere, but makes sense), but then Novgorod got a Great Conqueror and kicked my ass out of there (cause my children kept dying and alliances fall apart). They still have that great conqueror, but they haven't done anything probably scared of that big hor to their east. I'm more scared of Genghis, so I, for a couple of reasons and also lore, cause this character married a German milf, joined the HRE. I don't think I am getting Baltic Empire any time soon anyway, plus I could join as a march and with war priviliges.Current plan is to conquer Denmark and to hybridize danes, a couple traditions for Polabia are useless and I want Huscarls and Seafarers for free. Also try to bang courtiers cause I have seen more miscarriages in three characters than my entire 300h of playtime.

For the moment i included:>Pontic, Cappadocian, Tsakonian and Griko culture to split the greek blob>Galindians>Gallo culture in France>Melingoi (Peloponnesian slavs)>Syriacs (western assyrians) and Melkites (syriacs/greeks mix)>Azeri (late middle ages melting pot turkish culture)>Scots (lade middle ages melting pot english culture)>German prussians (late middle ages melting point for both low german or norse cultures in Prussia

>>2369421CK3 is the most beginner friendly and is more streamlined then CK2 but is missing some of the features of CK2(like republics) but those will likely be added. In alot of ways it's like SimsCK2 has the most mod variety at the moment especially since it's completed development which means you don't have to wait months to a mod to update after the main game updates. The only downside is all the characters in CK2 look like potatoes so unless you using portrait mods you get to deal with that. CK2 has the most degen stuff with CK3 slowly catching up. With how the games are set up CK2 you really need to use your imagination for things since most stuff is just an icon with a static portrait. CK3 the characters are more expressive and detailed which makes them feel more real. Downside to that is you need a decent to good PC to run CK3.
