So Battle Brothers in space demo is out.Is it good though, /vst/?Just saw the trailer, going to try this.
>>2347833Looking at the Steam page the combat, overworld and game description seems like an exact copy of Battle Brothers.Didn't really make me interested in trying the demo to be honest. Maybe I'll give it a chance when it's released if it gets good reviews.
Playing demo right nowThe fact that it has deployment phase is already good
Sounds like it became widely acceptable to copy-paste gameplay wholesale.
lmao even same ambiguous numbering
Seems ok for now in tutorial>humans and lizards with lizards gaining +40 health and +5 fatigue along with no movement penalty on sand, but cannot wear helmet>can take multiple contracts at the same time>can carry multiple weapons with no offsets to stats>armor stats only affect fatigue, not initiative>armor or lack of it affects climate effects which increases fatigue cost by 25%
>>2347874Don't see a problem with that. Gameplay has to be fun, but can be the same. Other things, you want different.
>>2347969I mean, me neither. Good ideas should be stolen and made anew, not copyrighted and abandoned. And copycats are getting bolder after some recent precedents.
>>2347876To be fair, BB probably picked it up from somewhere else too. HoMM had similar numbering twenty years ago
>>2347874because battle brothers was wholly unique and nobody ever made anything like it before
>>2347874i used to have this mindset but i think this way is healthier for gamesif it's shit then it'll fall by the wayside anyway
I couldn't get past the chess board art style for B B and I doubt I will for this
>>2347874>Sounds like it became widely acceptable to copy-paste gameplay wholesale.yeah, sometime in the 1980s
>>2347833Not a big fan of he more overt chess piece base on the models but I wasn't a big fan of how how BB looked before I warmed up to it either. That and the slow, floaty swing of the melee weapons looks fucking ATROCIOUS though. BB somehow made their melee attacks feel incredibly powerful and satisfying/terrifying and this just aint it at all. I gotta say, seeing how much of a blatant clone it is feels a little disconcerting. I was more okay with Void war doing it because FTL is an ancient game at this point with no intention of a sequel but this is like puppeteering someone's body before they've even started to rot
why on earth would you copy their garbage figure style
>>2347976ideas cannot be copyrighted, only specific expressions of ideas (eg. you can't have the right to "pictures of vases" but you can have the right to a specific picture of a vase)
>>2347874That is how the games industry has always been zoomie.
>>2347833The base below the models and the lack of arms looks like shit
>>2348032>I couldn't get past the chess board art style for B B and I doubt I will for this:(((
nice hammer tough guy
>>2350320>this is like puppeteering someone's body before they've even started to rotAnon, battle brothers released their first early access build 11 years ago, just three years after FTL. OH has been dragging along the corpse of BB since 2020.Besides, there have been far more egregious clones of BB: Urtuk and Wartales to name a few.
>>2350965A game doesn't "die" when it's released. It dies when it s tops receiving new updates and BB only stopped doing that the past few years so they could work on their next game. Can't speak for Urtuk since I've never seen/heard of it but implying this literal skinwalker is less of a straight copy than wartales is so insane I refuse to believe that's your honest opinion. Wartales is what a game inspired by BB SHOULD look like. This is just copying BB's homework and putting their name on it.
>>2347833getting tired from this third world slopLast and final of these copies that I will check out is Urtuk and only because of the artwork because gameplay is probably going to disappoint.>>2350320the hexagrid movent is almost always too forced and just a copy and paste mechanic. Honestly a game like Warsaw Rising City of Heroes did this way better by sticking to the Darkest Dungeon formula without degenerating into deckbuilding (DeepSkyDerelicts, etc) and just uses two lanes to abstract flanking. That game was however unpolished and abandoned. Big shame.also Iam getting tired of the endless dark fantasy trope and Unix asset/poor handdrawn art. I am currently working on a battle brother-like with DD/Warsaw Rising like tactical combat with a neo noir horror theme.
>>2347833i remember it took me a while to get used to BB no leg pawn style characters(i love it now but really disliked it at first) and this just gave me a major deja vu. Its different enough it i hate it despite loving BB...
>>2350965OP's pic looks a million times closer to BB than Urtuk retard
>>2350965Urtuk seemed really railroaded in how the characters are built and operated. Maybe it's a simplified FFT. What you're supposed to be doing in Battle Brothers is more opaque. A lot of players don't entirely get it after playing forever. I think Brothers most resembles games like Escape Velocity or it's spiritual remake Endless Sky. These are commerce games underneath unit construction. Units have the naval triangle conflict of armor, weapons, maneuverability and the ability to choose only 2. What makes Battle Brothers and Xcom replayable is depth of management outside of the tile fighting. Stripping the games down to only the battles is boring. Wartales looks great running around the map, but the turn based bloated fighting is dumb. It should be real time squad command where you can control a unit and issue group orders. Like a Baldur's Gate or Diablo. No ty to Space Sloppa bb copy.
>>2347874Its the chinese century anonThat means copying everything else
>>2351449Real, I remember all those Chinese Doom clones like Wolfenstein, Blood and Duke Nukem.
>>2347833Looks like ass.
>>2353203Why do people still say this to imply something looks bad? Ass looks great.
>>2353207Its an american thing, since everyones obese there they have no pleasant asses
>>2353203Yeah its copying Battle Brothers, if it wasnt a copy it would look good
>>2353692I keep getting suggested that game but it looks like fucking garbage. The "chess piece" style is so fucking bad. I am not generally a "graphics" guy but a lot of these games seem to try to look bad sometimes.
Since there is no Battle Brothers thread, I'll ask here. What's the best way to deal with Orc champions (or champions in general)? I built a two hander on fearsome and it wasn't particularly notable. Definitely very good at making heavier enemies safer to be glued to but overwhelm doesm't fall off against champions and carries immense value, of course depending on ability to be first before the enemy which carries a lot of preconceptions into how you'll build a bro.
>>2355396You generally want damage and survivability on a frontline 2H bro. Those utility perks are better for other bros with more attacks per turn and more either of the perk's relevant stat.I don't know if there are any specific anti-champion builds. I think you just want high roll bros with standard builds since champions are regular humanoid enemies.
>>2355448https://www.bbplanner.xyz/?perks=kHIBAAIoThis was the build in question. As useful as Fearsome is in Orc camps every other perk that's not required felt like they were not very good at boosting survivability.
>>2355396There isn't really a specific champion killing build that you build on a certain bro, ideally instead you want to focus on good tactics and positioning. What you want to setup during the fight is to bait them in one by one (this can be difficult, but you can abuse the AI by having 1 squishy dude) and then unload all your damage over two turns and kill them each before they have the chance to oneshot your bros. You wait before they charge in on the first turn and abuse nets and/or 2H hammer staggers to force them to act last on the second turn. You generally just want bros with high attack as defensive bros can just get murdered randomly especially if the champions have named weapons. This is pretty much how you beat fights like pic related, although champion swordmasters have such ridiculous mdef that you need archers/throwers as well to ensure you actually get the kills over two turns reliably.Orc (especially warlord) champions may be a bit different since they have tons of hp/armor, but the same swarm strategy can still apply for eg. if they have a 2H axe, the swarm strategy guarantees that they will use round swing, which has low accuracy and usually can't oneshot a bro. In general though I don't bother with orc champions as they rarely drop anything good and linebreaking is significantly annoying bullshit to play around.
>>2355962Is this a 2H mace build? It seems really weird to me. What is the purpose of this brother? If his goal is to stun dangerous enemies then underdog is a waste as he should never be getting surrounded. Nimble seems a weird pick because fatigue shouldn't be an issue on a 2H dude that attacks once per turn, and battleforged is better in general just for survivability come lategame when you're farming champions. Resilient isn't worth a perk point, and fearsome feels like a luxury perk that you should only really take on backliners.I don't mind nimble 2H mace bros at all, but I typically build them as Qatal quick swappers for insane versatility and damage, and they don't even take mace mastery so the build looks quite unorthodox: https://www.bbplanner.xyz/?perks=kEYQBAgk
>>2347833>"RPG">some trog thought chess pieces for legs would be immersive
>>2357286It was more of a proof of concept on making a brother that could maintain MDef by limiting attacks while getting value out of Fearsome. In practice it was meh, and I never got around to killing Ijirok to get value out of Resilient. I've had way shittier builds with lesser brothers that performed more amicably because they let me play ignorant on a different level.
>>2357472You niggas cant handle any sort of abstraction. Weak minds. Everything must be represent reality.
>>2347874You have to be a fucking zoomer, there's no way you're this retarded and clueless.
>>2350320Do you retards seriously think that battle brothers was some unique original idea?
>>2358310It's an artistic choice, nigger. It could have been stumpy legs like BB or no legs like Prison architect but they intentionally made the models look like shitty board game pieces.
>>2353772it doesn't play any better than it looks
>>2347833It's a good game. What it does better than BB is to include interiors. BB could've done so much more with interior battles. Wish they released many more DLCs for BB.
>>2357472sci-fi is inherently sillyit cannot ever be taken seriously
>>2347874It's even funnier how fast the indieslop shill brigade is quick to white knight total creative bankruptcy.
I would have tried it out if it wasn't for the retarded chess legs. Why copy a feature of battle brothers that was only there as a cost saving measure and make it even uglier????
>>2347874Not really a new thing, there are multiple genres all based around copy-pasting gameplay. Souls-likes, roguelikes, boomer-shooters, VS-clones, etc. Nothing new under the sun.
>>2347874Oh no... more of the thing I like...
