its that time of the year again, recommend some demos
I've been playing this game:https://store.steampowered.com/app/2275300/Folk_Emerging/And in a nutshell it's Civilization set in the stone age up to the early bronze era. Staring as hunter-gathering tribe and advancing into either settled down farmers or nomadic pastorals. This said it's quite different from Civilization, most apparent it has a smaller scale. Not just in term of eras but also size of your "civilization". Each person of your population has name and stats, each can get sick, wounded, participate in events or get assigned higher role. When you're foraging you get to choose specific species to hunt/gather and you might even fuck up ecosystem by taking too much. Buildings actually stay on the map and you can abandon them. Pretty fun game. Although I'm not quite the fan of auto-battler combat.
Might as well post it here as well, since it's Resident Evil if Resident Evil was turn-based tatical gamehttps://store.steampowered.com/app/2537470/Vultures__Scavengers_of_Death/Pistol is the most useful in fighting zombies for obvious reasons but you get barely any ammo. You can do headshots that cost more AP but do more damage or aim at the legs for a chance to immobilize zombie for a turn. Get pretty heat up when you stumble on a cluster of zombies.
>>2349843That sounds neat
>>2349843I remember trying it last year, it was pretty barebone and very easyI'll play it again to see what they've done
Playing Tabletop Tavern at the moment. Pretty fun if you like total war (in particular Warhammer TW) and roguelikes. Basically just the same as SOVL but real time rather than turn based. I could see it being fun for a while.
>>2349750Down with the ShipIt's a backpack battles style autobattler, but with a space theme instead of gay tranime girls. Here's some fag on youtube reviewing ithttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WmzPeqtRO0U

>>2350062I might be too much of a casual for Battleplan.
>>2350062Quality reccos
>>2350062>https://store.steampowered.com/app/3743140/Battleplan/too much autism for me
>>2350062>https://store.steampowered.com/app/3743140/Battleplan/is this the game where you can move your reefle companies
>>2349750Pretty poor showing so far. I've played about 8, and they've all felt really simple and copy something popular poorly without really adding much. Nothing else is really jumping out to me. I'll wait to see if other people can unearth some gems.
>>2349985>Tabletop TavernIt overheat my GPU
>>2350146how? it looks like ass at worst and passable at best. poorly optimised or very old rig?
>>2350148Game doesn't need to look good to cook your PC. Didn't have that problem on mine though.
>>2350149yeah that's why i asked if it was poorly optimised. i guess there could be a lot going on too, but it seemed like the maps and unit sizes were small-ish
>>2350148>>2350148>poorly optimised or very old rig?tell meGPU goes up to over 80 in one skirmish, heck it goes up even in menus
>>2350148that is after 2nd skirmish(fought only one battle 5 units vs 4)
>>2350160>>2350152nah i think this is the game's problem, it's not an amazing rig but i don't see why it wouldn't be enough to run it without problem
>>2350169compare it to the TW 3kthere is like 7k+ troops on the battlefield and its getting choopy but temp is like 60C+ on high(70C on ultra)
I've had a very bad track record with demos recentlyThe Scouring - dullProject 37 - mehOutlive 25 - lameOne King Is Enough - bad graphics, especially fontsRebellion Princess - doesn't work
>>2350146happens with indie jank
Wild West pioneers looks like just another colony Sim but with a wild western skin (and it is, but it's been fun so far)
>>2350129based reeflehs
>try Twilight Imperium digital demo>100+fps>90% GPU >86°C>in the main menu>no vsync/frame limit christ
>>2350703I've always wanted to play the boardgame, but it feels kind of pointless in digital format. I always wanted to play it because it seemed like a space 4x in physical form, but as a video game, why wouldn't I just play a space 4x.
Only /vst/ related demo i tried is Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes https://store.steampowered.com/app/4268760/Battlestar_Galactica_Scattered_Hopes_Demo/It's a refined version of the devs' previous game (Crying Suns) with better combat, lot of subsystems, various factions aboard your ships that you have to content without giving them too much powerIt seems nice
>>2350752imo digital only makes sense for needlessly fiddly board games like Through the Ages that benefit massively from automating all the pieces. GMT's Mr. President will probably be the same, once it leaves early access.
>>2350806It does make a lot of sense for board games to be digital, I agree. It's just the unique situation with TI for me is that I wanted to play it because it looked like video games I like. So just doesn't feel like much reason to try play it instead of those games.
>>2350828Even as a fan of TI4, I really don't see the point of digital for it. So much of the game is about constant above the table negotiation, which gets gay and drawn out and awkward in online multiplayer.
>>2350787Yeah haven't bothered with this one because I'll be getting it at some point anyway. I liked Crying Suns, even though the gameplay was pretty mediocre. The story, music and atmosphere carried it.
>>2350787the best part about crying suns was the setting and the soundtrack, the atmosphere in general. the gameplay was meh and easily broken. by comparison this looks fairly bland in terms of presentation, but the gimmick about surviving for a couple of minutes and then jumping away has potential. idk if i trust them to deliver good enough gameplay though. i might check it out when i'm home.
>>2350062So eversiege is basically they are billions but warcraft 3 DOTAWhat's the catch?
>>2350703tried sudden strike 5, seems interesting but once again insane GPU usage, performance seems to a common issue with other peoplehow are the other games in the series? might give them a try
>>2351509brah just fucking clean your fans or get a new card
>>2351403the catch is glory to goo is better.
>>2351518fans are clean, its with recommend specs and no issues running other stuff
>>2351403>webmuhhh what am I looking at here
>>2350062Demiurgos should have been tile based, it would make power use and distance guessing easier and be much more quicker to develop. I would still buy it thoughveit.
>>2351403just seems like a wc3 custom map to me, I think the genre was called custom hero defense. crazy how much unmined content there still is from wc3 modding after all these years
>>2351570but the question is, can i play something like this game in warcraft 3 in singleplayer with bots?
>>2351550just a sneaky ayy/ghost/entity from a random woman who lives in a haunted house
Spacefleet heatdeath seems neat
>>2349750Ashes of the Singularity IIThe game is still very early, but I liked the demo. You need to capture sectors with your units; the more sectors you have, more resources you hace and therefore bigger is your army, the usual stuff. What I liked about the game is that guerrilla warfare works. You can infiltrate a group of scouts into an unprotected sector and capture it. You won't be able to use it because you're surrounded and you won't have energy, but when you capture it, all the enemy buildings are destroyed. This forces you to divide your armies and decide where to deploy them. A massive army is powerful but would allow several guerrilla groups to sneak into your rear. Several small combat groups give you a lot of flexibility but are easily wiped out.You can try to rush the enemy base with a massive army or play guerrilla warfare while trying to wear down your enemy, in general it's a bit of both .The bad thing is that it's a beta version, and it shows. Sometimes the AI seems to have a crystal ball, other times it sends waves of troops to certain death. It needs optimization, especially when you have large armies, and the demo doesn't have online, so you can only play against the AI, but it's still a game to keep in mind.
>>2351711I forgot to add the image.
>>2351570>>2351571It was X Hero Siege and yeah you coulda done maps like that soloIt's because it felt just like a Warcraft III custom map that i'm extremely fascinated in this gameIt's being marketed as inspired from MOBAs and stuff but i know exactly what that shit was inspired by
>>2350218Is that motherfucking FRAPS!?
>>2350169Make sure you're frame capped and your gpu isn't trying to run it at 300fps.
>>2351711>>2351714The first game was so awful. I have no hope that one will be any better.
>>2352157yes, I needed something to show fps
>>2352157>Is that motherfucking FRAPS!?Let me guess, you think you need more?
>>2352157Fraps AND Speccy
>>2350062Not completely sold on the movement and how you can't quickly hit and run in Eversiege, but i'm really digging the warcraft 3 mod feel
Starvester is a good braindead game for people who want number to go up

>>2352940idlers/clickers are not strategy.
>>2352983RTS are just clickers with esports teams.
no
>>2350703it ran fine on my machine but i was disappointed at how this is just the combat/dicerolling bit and not the actually interesting tactical moves & strategical choices & diplomatic negotiations parts. i guess they wanted to show something for the demo day but man if the game's not ready don't show it, come on now.>>2350752i mean you can already play it digitally via Tabletop Simulator so no need to wait for the official vidya;as for why, because TI4 is not a 4X, it's more of a diplomacy with way too much shit going on. you don't really do any exploration without the Prophecy of Kings expansion, and completely eliminating someone out of the game is a net loss for you at all player counts above 3. The real meat and potatoes is in the negotiations and projecting force to get what you want instead of having to use and lose your fleet to get something else you could use.Victory is achieved mainly through Public Objectives so everyone is jgunning for mostly the same stuff and you can see what limited resource is being fought for, but also each player can dedicate time to get and complete Secret Objectives, usually more restrictive but they're yours and yours alone. Then there's controlling Mecatol Rex, the capital of the Imperium in the center of the map, while you resolve the Imperial strategy (basically dedicate your entire round to this instead of excelling in other areas like researching tech, building space docks, getting action points, and so on), some Agendas that everyone votes on between rounds can also give victory points, and you can give one to your ally directly with Support for the Throne promissory note. So, of the 4 main ways to score points, 3 can be negotiated on, and one of those HAS to be negotiated. You'd think this would mean nobody acts aggressively, but since there's 6 players and only one who you can swap Support for the Throne with, it can be quite the bloodbath with the right set of p.objectives in play.
>>2349750Tohotopia was cute, but I do not know if it is good. I haven't played Polytopia to compare. https://store.steampowered.com/app/3774440/TOHOTOPIA/>>2350138I felt this about basically all games, /vst/ or otherwise. The only ones overall that stood out were https://store.steampowered.com/app/3440070 for being silly, and https://store.steampowered.com/app/3832490 for being the only good clone I've ever seen. >>2349851I forgot to try this, will do so today.
